Regional intelligence, not foreign forces involved in Gen. Raziq’s assassination: Tadin Khan
[KhaamaPress] The provincial police chief of Kandahar Gen. Tadin Khan has said that the regional intelligence was involved in liquidation of the former police chief of Kandahar Gen. Abdul Raziq.

Gen. Tadin Khan made the remarks during a meeting with the members of the parliamentary delegation from the Upper House of the Parliament, Meshrano Jirga led by the first deputy chairman of the Senate House Mohammad Alam Izadyar.

According to a statement released by Meshra Jirga, Gen. Tadin Khan has said that Gen. Raziq was assassinated because he was patriotic Afghan and had thoughts and views in favor of the nation.

He also added that the government must not take the liquidation case of Gen. Raziq lightly and share information regarding all domestic and foreign dimensions of the case with the people, emphasizing that the liquidation of Gen. Raziq has raised many questions among the people.

Gen. Tadin Khan also rejected rumors that the foreign forces were involved in the liquidation of Gen. Raziq.

In the meantime, the statement by Meshrano Jirga added that the first deputy chairman of the Senate House shared information regarding the delegation’s meeting with the security bigshots regarding the liquidation case of Gen. Raziq.

Haftar's forces "south social coordinator" resigns over racial discrimination against Tabu
[Libya Observer] The so-called social coordinator in southern Libya for the self-styled army of Khalifa Haftar
...Self-proclaimed Field Marshal, served in the Libyan army under Muammar Qadaffy, and took part in the coup that brought Qadaffy to power in 1969. He became a prisoner of war in Chad in 1987. While held prisoner, he and his fellow officers formed a group hoping to overthrow Qadaffy. He was released around 1990 in a deal with the United States government and spent nearly two decades in the United States, gaining US citizenship. In 1993, while living in the United States, he was convicted in absentia of crimes against the Jamahiriya and sentenced to death. Haftar held a senior position in the anti-Qadaffy forces in the 2011 Libyan Civil War. In 2014 he was commander of the Libyan Army when the General National Congress (GNC) refused to give up power in accordance with its term of office. Haftar launched a campaign against the GNC and its Islamic fundamentalist allies. His campaign allowed elections to take place to replace the GNC, but then developed into a civil war. Guess you can't win them all...
Ali al-Tabawi has resigned over "racial discrimination."

The coordinator said Saturday that racism and robbery in Sabha and Ghadwa town reaffirm the need for a national army that cares for the protection of people and constitution not tribal militias who had wreaked havoc in the country, especially in Sabha.

Haftar's forces launched last month an operation in southern Libya aiming to "secure the southern region against foreign mercenaries and terrorism."

On Friday, four of Haftar-commanded fighters were killed and three others were maimed due to festivities in Ghadwa town in southern Libya.

An official at the World Health Organization (WHO) said the fighting had killed 14 and maimed 64, mostly from the "Haftar's opponents."

Meanwhile,
...back at the shootout, Butch clutched at his other shoulder......
Tabu National Gathering condemned the actions of Haftar's forces in southern Libya as they have among them conflicting tribes and thus helping - logistically and militarily - some tribes over others.

Haftar's forces in southern Libya are made up from Awlad Sulaiman tribe including Brigade 128 headed by Hassan al-Zadma, and Deterrence Brigade led by Masoud al-Jadi, which is at odds with Tabu rustics.

A military operations room is based in southern Libya and includes opponents of Tabu and Qadaffy tribes in the region

Libya's warlord Haftar accused of war crimes in Derna
[Libya Observer] The Independent reported Thursday that Khalifa Haftar
...Self-proclaimed Field Marshal, served in the Libyan army under Muammar Qadaffy, and took part in the coup that brought Qadaffy to power in 1969. In 2014 he was commander of the Libyan Army when the General National Congress (GNC) refused to give up power in accordance with its term of office. Haftar launched a campaign against the GNC and its Islamic fundamentalist allies. His campaign allowed elections to take place to replace the GNC, but then developed into a civil war. and his forces had committed war crimes in the eastern city of Derna.

The UK-based newspaper cited London rights lawyers as saying that they had urged the International Criminal Court to investigate instances of torture, murder and mutilation of corpses committed by forces under the command and orders of Haftar.

"The legal opinion, which was shared exclusively with The Independent, marks the first time General Khalifa Haftar’s troops have been formally accused of war crimes in the coastal city, under their control since last summer." The report explains.

It also indicates that the Geneva-based Libyan group Human Rights Solidarity, which commissioned the report, intends to file it with International Criminal Court prosecutors in the coming weeks.

"Human rights lawyer Rodney Dixon, of Temple Garden Chambers, reached this conclusion after studying multiple videos and photos taken in Derna and posted online, which purport to show Gen Haftar’s self-styled Libyan National Army (LNA) shooting unarmed civilians, stringing up mutilated bodies and indiscriminately shelling residential areas." The Independent reported.

Several rights groups have accused Haftar before of commanding and ordering a wave of operations against civilians, causing torture, murders, executions, liquidations and displacements.

Arabia
UAE's tolerance embraces faiths, runs up against politics
[DAWN] The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has branded a bridge, a new ministry, a family day at the park and even the entire year of 2019 under the banner theme of "tolerance", an elaborate effort that's in overdrive as the country prepares to host Pope Francis starting on Sunday in the first-ever papal visit to the Arabian Peninsula.

The state's tolerance-themed project, however, has hard limits.

While allowing churches and other places of worship to exist, and marking holidays like Christmas, the Hindu Diwali and Chinese New Year with festivals and celebrations, the government has simultaneously stomped out critical political expression in the name of national security.

Human rights activists and Moslem Brüderbund sympathisers have been imprisoned, academic research deemed sensitive has been curtailed and human rights

groups have been barred entry. Political parties are banned and local media are censored. And while the law prohibits religious discrimination and guarantees the freedom to exercise religious worship, the state's official religion of Islam is tightly monitored and controlled.

A permit is required to hold a Koran memorisation circle or lecture, collect donations or distribute books or audio in mosques. The law also prohibits mosque employees from preaching and teaching religious lessons outside of mosques.

Moreover, all imams receive their salaries from the government and with the exception of the most senior imams must follow an official weekly guidance on the content of Friday sermons.

The UAE's Minister of Tolerance, Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, said the government is simply doing what "we think is right for our people and for the world".

"We are trying to protect our religion," he told The News Agency that Dare Not be Named in an interview last week.

"We want to restore our real religion, which stems from our holy book the Koran, which believes in living together. It believes in the dignity of a human being."

The UAE, a federation of seven constituent monarchies led by President Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, is known for its gleaming cities of Dubai and Abu Dhabi. Modern skylines draw tourists from around the world, bars exist next to mosques, men and women dressed in traditional garb brush past foreigners, and tight security and surveillance ensures high levels of safety.

Sweden accord at risk of collapse
Unexpectedly.
[AlAhram] The UN continues working with Yemen’s warring parties towards the full implementation of the Stockholm agreement, but the Houthis appear in the habit of violating the accord

Europe
Strasbourg attack: Trio charged with supplying weapon
[DW] Three men have been charged in connection with last year's deadly Christmas market attack in Strasbourg. Police say the suspects supplied the gunman with the pistol he used to kill five people in the rampage.

French authorities have charged three people with terrorist conspiracy and weapons offenses over their role in the attack on the Strasbourg Christmas market in December.

The men ‐ aged 32, 34 and 78 ‐ were indicted by an examining magistrate in Gay Paree and remanded in jug pending trial, according to a judicial source. All three men are members of the same family, according to French officials. Two other members of the family were also detained with the trio but released soon after.

Cherif Chekatt killed five people and maimed 11 others when he opened fire on the open-air market in the northeastern French city on December 11.

The 29-year-old, a known petty criminal who was also on an myrmidon watch list, was rubbed out by police after a two-day manhunt. Following the attack, Sherlocks found a video in which Chekatt pledged allegiance to "Islamic State

Syrian opposition ask Masoud Barzani to take ‘active role’
[Rudaw] Kurdish leader Masoud Barzani met with the head of the Syrian opposition negotiating body, Nasr al-Hariri, on Saturday to discuss the latest developments after US President Donald Trump
...New York real estate developer, described by Dems as illiterate, racist, misogynistic, and what ever other unpleasant descriptions they can think of, elected by the rest of us as 45th President of the United States...
’s shock decision to pull his troops out of Syria.

Hariri and his delegation called on Barzani to "play an active role in the success of current efforts to address the crises in Syria, as well as to protect the future of the Kurdish people there," according to a statement from Barzani’s office.

Barzani is head of the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) and is a well-known Kurdish figure internationally from his years as president of the Kurdistan Region. He frequently meets with foreign dignitaries both at home and abroad.

Since Trump’s announcement in mid-December that he was pulling US forces out of Syria, claiming ISIS was defeated, Barzani has several times voiced concerns over the fate of Syrian Kurds amid mounting threats from The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire....
. He raised the issue when he met with US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo last month.

The National Council of Syrian Kurdistan (ENKS), a coalition of opposition parties in self-autonomous northern Syria that enjoys close relations with the KDP, appealed for Barzani to amplify their concerns on the global stage.

In their meeting, the Syrian delegation noted Barzani, in his "role and position" has an impact on issues across the border.

The northern Syria region ‐ that encompasses a third of Syrian territory and is administered and secured by a Kurdish-Arab alliance ‐ faces an existential crisis as the Americans withdraw. Turkey considers the Kurdish forces a branch of the PKK and has threatened a military offensive against them. The Kurds have opened discussions with Damascus and are appealing for a United Nations

role in a proposed safe zone that would serve as a buffer between them and Turkey.

Peace negotiations are dominated by Russia, Iran, and Turkey, with Damascus back on its feet and the UN essentially sidelined. Politically, current efforts are focused on forming a committee to draft a new constitution for the country.

Hariri and Barzani said it is important that all parties cooperate in order to resolve the conflict through dialogue and understanding.

Hariri and his delegation arrived in Erbil on Friday. They are in the Kurdistan Region capital on a three day visit.

Iraq receives 1,300 artifacts from Jordan
Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) ‐ Iraqi Prime Minister Adil Abdul Mahdi received on Saturday 1,300 ancient artifacts that had been smuggled into Jordan.

"Such ancient pieces do not belong to Iraq alone, but they belong to humanity as a whole... their retrieval is of great importance to Iraq and Jordan," Abdul Mahdi said

The handover ceremony was held during a meeting between Abdul Mahdi and his Jordanian counterpart Omar Razzaz on the joint border over the implementation of cooperation protocols and inauguration of the joint industrial zone.

He further extended thanks to Razzaz for his efforts to seize these artifacts and bring them back to Iraq.

Israel-Palestine-Jordan
Israel begins construction of new Gaza border barrier
Walls don't work and are immoral, according to Nancy Palsi
[France24] Israel said Sunday that work to strengthen its border with the Gaza Strip had entered a new phase, with construction starting on a massive new barrier along the frontier.

"Over the weekend we began building the above-ground barrier along the Gaza border," Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu told journalists before the weekly cabinet meeting.
The barrier, set to stand six metres (20 feet) off the ground, "will prevent terrorists from Gaza from penetrating into our territory on the ground", he said in Hebrew.

Netanyahu gave no further details but a defence ministry statement said that work on the structure began Thursday.

It is set to follow the 65-kilometre (40-mile) course of an underground barrier also under construction meant to neutralise the threat of cross-border tunnels built by Gaza militants.

At its western end, the statement said, the above-ground barrier would join a fortified sea wall jutting into the Mediterranean, aimed at blocking Palestinian attacks by water.

"It's massive and especially strong," the ministry said in an accompanying video clip.

In the last Gaza war in 2014, Israeli forces killed four Hamas militants who had managed to cross into Israel by water.

Some Israeli commentators have said that Netanyahu would be unwilling to see a new uptick in hostilities with Gaza's Hamas rulers in the runup to general elections set for April 9.

Unable to help themselves, the U.N. Censors Israeli-Made Wine During Holocaust Event
[Free Beacon] The United Nations is again facing accusations of anti-Israel bias for erasing from display the location of an Israeli-made bottle of wine during a recent Holocaust remembrance event, according to pictures provided to the Washington Free Beacon.

During a U.N. Holocaust memorial event sponsored by Austria and Norway earlier this week, an Israeli-made wine was served. However, "Golan Heights Winery," where the wine was produced, appears to have been blacked out on the label so it can no longer be viewed, according to pictures.

The apparent whitewashing of the wine’s origins was first caught by Anne Bayefsky, director of the Touro Institute on Human Rights and the Holocaust and president of Human Rights Voices, whose members attended the event and posted photos on Twitter.

Bayefsky, who has long tracked and called out anti-Israel bias at the U.N., said the blacking out of the wine's label represents another instance of U.N.-driven discrimination against the Jewish state‐especially hypocritical on UN Holocaust Remembrance Day.

"The incident reveals the duplicity of U.N. Holocaust events that use and abuse the memory of Jewish dead decades ago to erase the reality of Jews under attack today," Bayefsky said. "And to erase the truth that‐thanks to Israel‐Jewish children are saved by a Golan that is used for creativity, commerce and beauty, instead of deadly modern anti-Semitism."

The Austrian Mission to the U.N., in an official statement, told the Free Beacon, "This was a well-received event. Blotting out the geographical denomination was a clear mistake by an individual member of the mission for which we apologize."

The Norwegian Permanent Mission to the U.N. and the Holocaust and U.N. Outreach Programme did not respond to requests for comment.

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
Exhausted, hungry, ill – thousands flee ISIS-held territory
[Rudaw] More than 34,350 people have fled fighting between Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) and ISIS in Syria’s Deir ez-Zor since mid-December, according to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights.

The people are often poorly nourished and exhausted after years of life under ISIS and the conflict.

Among the civilians escaping the festivities in the last significant territory held by the murderous Moslem group are many ISIS fighters, including foreigners, their wives, and children.

The SDF and US-led global coalition carefully process the thousands who escape the battlefield in order to separate out the fighters. They fingerprint and photograph the suspected fighters and the foreigners.

The civilians are then trucked to camps.

These photographs were taken on January 31 and February 2, 2019.
Photos of ISIS black moving objects and their children can be seen at the link.
