100 arrested in Mogadishu security sweep
Nearly 100 people, mostly teenagers have been arrested on Sunday in a joint security sweep in Mogadishu by Somali and AMISOM police units, Witnesses said.

Sunday’s dawn operation carried out at villages in Mogadishu’s Waberi and Hamar-jajab districts, where the allied troops searched houses suspected to be hiding by Al shabaab sleeper cells, police said.

Local authority was not immediately available on the phone for further details on the motive of the Sunday’s security operation in the capital, Mogadishu.

Al Shabaab puts captured major on display
AFGOOYE, Somalia -- Somalia’s Al Qaeda linked Al Shabaab group has put on display a military commander said to be a major in Somali National Army (SNA) according to photos posted on pro-militant website, Garowe Online reports.

Uniformed Major Mohamed Haji Ali’s photos went on viral, a few hours after Al Shabaab said; it is holding him in undisclosed vicinity in southern Somalia. He was captured along with his car after Al Shabaab fighters raided his home in the outskirts of Afgooye, a town near Mogadishu and rich in agriculture.

Europe
Dutch PM Slams 'Cowardly' Attack on Refugee Shelter, Support for Merkel's Party Falls Over Refugees
It's the governing elites across Europe vs. the people. Here are two examples:
[AnNahar] Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte has sharply condemned a "cowardly" attack on a refugee shelter, vowing to deal harshly with a group of men who sprayed the building with fireworks and eggs.

Rutte visited the sports hall in the central city of Woerden on Saturday where some 150 refugees, including 51 children, are being temporarily housed, just hours after it was attacked late Friday by about 20 youths.

No one was hurt in the incident, but Dutch police were Sunday still questioning 11 men aged between 19 and 30 who were detained after the attack.

The men, all dressed in black and wearing balaclavas, had allegedly unsuccessfully tried to storm into the building.

"This cowardly action is totally unacceptable," Rutte said on his Facebook page, after visiting the group who he said had been very "shocked" by the incident.

It comes amid rising tensions in The Netherlands over the thousands of refugees due to be given shelter in the country under an EU scheme.

Over the next two years, it will take in more than 7,000 people as EU nations share out the migrants flooding into the continent, mainly from Syria and Iraq, in Europe's worst refugee crisis since World War II.

Last week, an angry crowd in the tiny village of Oranje tried to block the car of Deputy Justice Minister Klaas Dijkhoff after he tried to explain why the small hamlet was having to house some 1,200 refugees, twice the number initially planned.

A woman was injured and hospitalize after she threw herself against Dijkhoff's car.

Rutte, who on Friday had already called for calm over the refugee situation, vowed after his visit to Woerden that those behind the attack would be severely dealt with.

Some local mayors have reacted angrily at the government plans for temporarily housing refugees in their villages, saying they were being "overruled" by the ministers based in The Hague.

A poll published Sunday in the De Telegraf showed that the Freedom Party (PVV) of firebrand
...firebrands are noted more for audio volume and the quantity of spittle generated than for any actual logic in their arguments...
far-right Dutch politician Geert Wilders appears to be shooting up the polls amid the refugee crisis.

His party won 15 seats in the last elections in 2012. But according to the daily De Telegraaf, if elections were held today his party could snatch as many as 35 seats in the 150-seat lower house.

Support for Merkel's Party Falls over Refugee Influx

[AnNahar] Backing for German Chancellor Angela Merkel
...current chancellor of Germany. She was educated in East Germany when is was still run by commies, but in 1989 got involved with the growing democracy movement when the Berlin Wall fell. Merkel is sometimes referred to by Germans as Mom...
's party has fallen to its lowest point in two years, a survey published Sunday showed, as dissatisfaction over a record refugee influx spreads.

Support for her Christian Democratic Union (CDU) has dropped two percentage points to 38 percent -- its lowest since the last parliamentary election in September 2013, according to the latest weekly polls by newspaper Bild am Sonntag.

Almost one in two Germans (48 percent) believe that Merkel's decision to open the country's doors to those fleeing war was wrong. Those who back her stance stood at 39 percent.

The survey also showed political parties that have been pressing for Germany to shut its doors to refugees as gaining ground, with the far-right Alternative for Germany (AfD) and the liberal FDP both gaining one percentage point to 6 percent each.

Stuck on Lesbos, Afghans Demand Equal Treatment as Refugees
What the clever Angela Merkel triggered. It's not just Afghans, of course.
[AnNahar] In cloistered meetings miles away from the combat zone, European governments have determined that Syrians fleeing their country's civil war should be given precedence over other exiles seeking refugee protection.

"We are numerous and this gives us strength," he adds.
But on the dock of Mytilene, the port capital of Greece's Lesbos island, 22-year-old Sajjad wants to tell them they are wrong, and demands equal treatment.

"Of course I am a refugee. Your governments should go to Afghanistan if they think people can live there," he says.

"German Administration 'Gone Mad'", French Official Says
Google translation
Summary:

The article is about a "Club of Three" conference attended by legislators, former cabinet ministers and former department chiefs from the UK, France and Germany.

Under "Chatham House Rules" quotes may be leaked but can not be attributed to specific participants.

The Germans who supported Merkel's party line were mocked in a way that surprised experienced observers of the conference.

When the Germans declared "There aren't any borders anymore," a French participant responded that if this wasn't meant in jest, "I'll go to Paris, declare that the German Administration went bonkers and demand the reinstitution of the border between our nations.

The confusion increased when the Germans additionally stated that "Schengen is dead."

Other German statements echoing Merkel included:
"There was no alternative to opening the borders."
"As there are no borders for capital there are no borders for migrants."
"To make it clear: There's no solution to the problem."

The British expressed their contempt and responded, "When politicians declare that there are no solutions this is reason to worry for all those who believe in good governance."

In principle there are solutions to problems and "taking in masses of people" is certainly not a solution.

#1  This article (in German) says that, "cabinet ministers, important MPs and long term allies from her party
all confidentially reveal that they don't understand their chancellor for the first time in years."

They're supporting her because of personal loyalty, not because they're convinced that her policy is sound.

Merkel's religious awakening/treason/insanity/whatever has the potential to turn into a black swan event.

Germany has a parliamentary system. The chancellor can be replaced by a majority in parliament voting for a new chancellor. There's no complicated impeachment procedure.

Rational actors in Merkel's coalition should act ASAP to prevent a major crisis.

#2  Too late. They already have a major crisis. The question now is what to do about it. Merkel forgot that her primary responsibility is to the people of Germany, not to an army of foreign invaders. The Frenchman is right. She has clearly gone stark raving mad and needs to be replaced ASAP.

#6  @#4
An early election isn't needed. The chancellor is elected by and serves at the pleasure of a parliamentary majority. If her party wants her gone she can be replaced as easily as e.g. an Australian PM.

This isn't about a political realignment. If news reports are to be believed this is about an individual's monster raving loony madness peculiar state of mind that is precipitating a crisis.

Stunned Turkey Mourns 95 Killed in Worst Ever Attack, Crowds Denounce Erdogan
[AnNahar] Thousands of people took to the streets of Ankara on Sunday to denounce the government of President Recep Tayyip Erdogan after 95 people were killed in twin suspected suicide bombings on a peace rally, Turkey's worst ever terror attack.

Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu declared three days of national mourning, with flags flying at half mast across the country, as questions grew over who could have ordered the Ankara bombings.

Turkey's pro-Kurdish Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP), one of the groups that called the peace rally, issued a statement claiming the actual toll was far higher at 128, giving the names of 120 victims.

Entry of 190 ulema in Pindi division during Muharram banned

2.) A province of Pakistain ruled by one of the Sharif brothers
3.) A province of India. It is majority (60 percent) Sikh and Hindoo (37 percent), which means it has relatively few Moslem riots....

government has banned the entry of 190 Learned Elders of Islam and Zakirs in the Rawalpindi division during Muharram.

The inter-provincial movement of religious leaders is already banned during the month.

According to police sources, of the 190 Learned Elders of Islam, the entry of 39 has been banned in the Rawalpindi district, 91 in Attock, 18 in Jhelum and 45 in Chakwal. As many as 77 of the holy mans belonged to the Shia, 95 to Deobandi and 18 Barelvi schools of thought.

The government has also decided to register cases against the organisers of majalis in which any banned Learned Elders of Islam or Zakirs would be invited.

"No Learned Elders of Islam from other parts of the province will be allowed to enter Rawalpindi or visit other districts during Muharram," Regional Police Officer (RPO) Mohammad Wisal Fakhar Sultan Raja said.

In addition to the entry ban, the names of those included in the police watch list under the fourth schedule of the Anti-Terrorism Act 1997 are being updated. The RPO said individuals placed on the watch-list were under surveillance by the police and security officials.

In the Rawalpindi division, more than 725 processions and 3,800 majalis have been put in the highly sensitive 'A', less sensitive 'B' and low sensitive 'C' categories.

Imambargah
...since Pakistain is very religiously correct, Shia Moslems can't call their houses of worship 'mosques,' which are reserved for Sunnis. It's not clear if imambargahs are used for explosives storage like mosques are...
Qasr-e-Shabbir at Dhoke Syedan, which had been included in the 'C' category, was targeted by a jacket wallah in November 2012 killing at least 15 people and injuring over 35 others.

International-UN-NGOs
U.N., World Bank Announce New Funds for Mideast Refugee Crisis
[AnNahar] The U.N. and World Bank said Saturday they will increase financing for the Middle East and North Africa to help countries there deal with millions of refugees and rebuild after conflicts.

They did not put a dollar figure on the initiative, but said it would ramp up resources to deal with the "enormous humanitarian and economic toll" that conflicts in Syria, Iraq, Yemen
...an area of the Arabian Peninsula sometimes mistaken for a country. It is populated by more antagonistic tribes and factions than you can keep track of. Except for a tiny handfull of Jews everthing there is very Islamic...
and elsewhere are taking on the region.

"The world today is witness to... the highest level of forced displacement since the Second World War," U.N. Secretary General the ephemeral Ban Ki-moon said in a statement.

"To address the scale and the nature of the conflicts, we need new approaches. It is important that the World Bank, as a close partner to the U.N., and other international financial institutions, mainstream and actively invest in conflict-affected states."

The new loans will come in two forms, said the organizations, which are also collaborating with the Islamic Development Bank on the plan.

Under the first mechanism, guarantees from donor countries will be leveraged to issue special bonds, including Islamic sukuk bonds, which are specially structured to comply with the Koranic prohibition on charging interest.

In the second, donor country grants will be used to extend low-interest loans to the countries hosting the bulk of the more than 15 million refugees who have fled the region's conflicts in the past four years.

"Strong global partnerships and innovative financing are essential to meet the scale of the need in these hard-hit countries," said World Bank president Jim Yong Kim.

"It is our collective responsibility to support the Middle East and North Africa region at this critical time, and this requires significant resources -- more than any one country or organization is able to provide on its own."

The initiative was agreed on the sidelines of the annual meetings of the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund in Lima, Peru this week.

The organizations have set up a working group and asked it to finalize the details of the new financing mechanisms, as well as develop an implementation roadmap by February 2016, they said.

#1  Mosul fell to ISIS in June 2014.

Since then a 'liberation' has been postponed many times. In April 2015, Iraqi sources said it would be liberated before the summer. Back in June 2015, one Iraqi Gen said the liberation was underway but that was misinfo.

The Kurds already control about 50-75% of the perimeter around the city.

Of course, Ramadi fell to ISIS in May 2015 and it is closer to Baghdad.

Israel-Palestine-Jordan
Is Islamic Movement orchestrating terror attacks?
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and other government officials and others in the media have been pointing their finger at the northern branch of the Islamic Movement in Israel as being connected to the recent wave of violence.

A representative of the Shin Bet (Israel's Security Agency) told the cabinet on Sunday that the Islamic Movement and Hamas were principally responsible for the incitement that has led to the current wave of terror, and that both groups rejected Israel's existence. In an interview on Army Radio on Sunday, the head of the police operations chief Ahraon Aksol, said that “these are not spontaneous events, the northern branch is directing them.”
Of course they're not spontaneous. They're doing exactly what their Iranian masters are telling them to do. Syria, West Bank, western Iraq, Sinai and Yemen are all aflame because Iran wants it that way. They have Rooshun air support in Syria. They have Obama twaddling about gun control. Life is good for the Mad Mullahs™ right now...
Unlike the more pragmatic southern branch, the northern branch does not participate in national elections.

There has been reports for some time that Netanyahu’s government was considering banning the northern branch of the Islamic Movement, a move that is unlikely to be carried out in any significant way even if it passes muster with the Supreme Court. Fully disbanding the movement would require a massive security operation on par with what Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi has undertaken against the Muslim Brotherhood in Egypt – imprisoning its members, preventing their supporters from preaching in mosques, and so forth.

And even after months of security operations and killings of members of the Muslim Brotherhood the groups is still alive and kicking.

The Islamic Movement in Israel is an offshoot of the Muslim Brotherhood movement in Egypt.

“Security officials, politicians, and the media have blamed the Islamic Movement for spearheading events and the prime minister declared for the umpteenth time that he intended to outlaw the Islamic Movement,” Nohad Ali, a sociologist from the University of Haifa and Western Galilee College who is an expert on Israeli-Arab affairs, told The Jerusalem Post.

Ali added that when they speak about the organization, they are referring to the Movement’s northern branch led by Sheikh Raed Salah and his deputy Sheikh Kamal Khatib. Security forces have prevented them along with other leaders of the movement to visit Aksa Mosque on the Temple Mount.

“Politicians, especially on the right of the political spectrum, are working hard to find who is to blame for the recent riots. Of course, they do not want to blame themselves,” continued Ali.

Netanyahu has accused three groups of inciting violence: Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas, Hamas, and the Islamic Movement (also Balad MK Hanin Zoabi). Because Netanyahu does not want to act against Hamas or the PA, argues Ali, he chooses to attack the weakest link: the Islamic Movement.

The northern branch of the Islamic Movement has been at the forefront of espousing the defense of Aqsa Mosque. It has even come to the point where Salah is recognized in the Arab and Islamic world as "the sheikh of al-Aqsa," said Ali.

The Islamic Movement has trained cadres of Muslim men, women, boys and girls known as the Murabitun, who are meant to defend the Aksa Mosque.

“Each of them believes in his heart that Aqsa is in danger. They believe that the Israeli government wants to copy the exercise of the Cave of the Patriarchs in Hebron, dividing the complex physically and restricting the amount of time the site is open to Muslims.

Ali asserts that the profile of those using violence are youths or children from more secular households.

“They are not cadres from the Islamic Movement,” said Ali.

The banning of the Islamic Movement would only serve to deteriorate the situation further as the group would call on dozens to protest, he said. Furthermore, the High Court would likely overturn any ban.

Suspect in ex-priest's kidnapping arrested
[InterAksyon] A suspect in the kidnapping of Italian ex-priest Rolando del Torchio was arrested in Pagadian City Friday night while a suspected Abu Sayyaf militant allegedly involved in the 2002 kidnapping of Jehovah's Witnesses was captured in Zamboanga City Saturday morning.

Meanwhile, Cleve Taboso, spokesman for the unit assigned to recover Del Torchio, said they had identified the kidnapper's chief, known as "Commander Red Eye," and four of his relatives based on security cam footage of the abduction. He said Red Eye had been arrested for another abduction in 2014 but managed to post bail.

Taboso said they did not believe the group had taken him to the extremist stronghold of Sulu, where any rescue would be more difficult. Small kidnapping gangs have often taken their hostages to the island of Jolo to hand them over to the Abu Sayyaf who ransom them off for large sums of money.

In Zamboanga City, an alleged Abu Sayyf militant, identified only as "Raji", was seized by security forces in a house in Cawa-Cawa district. He was the subject of an arrest warrant charged with six counts of kidnapping and serious illegal detention.

The Jehovah's Witnesses were kidnapped in Patikul town, Sulu. Two of them were later beheaded after their families could not come up with the ransom, the others were rescued after weeks of military operations. 18 suspects were earlier arrested but were released in February 2013 for lack of evidence.

Iran General Did 80 Missions in Syria, Mourners Told
[AnNahar] An Iranian general killed in the Syrian city of Aleppo had taken part in 80 missions in the war-torn country, mourners were told at his funeral in Tehran on Sunday.

He had been involved for four years in Iran's operations in Syria, creating national defense forces for Assad, a fellow general and former chief commander of the Guards said in Tehran.

"Our security is not confined to our borders, it is related to the entire region. Hamedani was martyred in Syria so that insecurity does not reach Tehran," General Mohsen Rezaie, who recently came out of retirement to rejoin the military, said in tribute.

Hamedani was killed by "Daesh terrorists" he added, using the Arabic acronym to refer to the jihadist Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
(IS) group that swept much of Syria and Iraq last year, since holding ground.

Thousands attended Hamedani's ceremony. He will be buried in Hamedan, his home city, on Monday.

Iran's supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei praised Hamedani as "a sincere and diligent warrior" in a note of condolence to his family on Saturday.

Ali Shamkhani, secretary of Iran's Supreme National Security Council, described Hamedani's death as "a huge loss" in the fight against jihadist groups in Syria.

Quoted by the IRNA news agency, he said the loss would be "avenged" and that this would lead to the "complete destruction" of these groups.

Shiite-dominated Iran is Assad's strongest regional ally and it has sent Guards as military advisers to help him against Sunni Muslim rebels seeking his overthrow.

Leb's Hizbullah
...Party of God, a Leb militia inspired, founded, funded and directed by Iran. Hizbullah refers to itself as The Resistance and purports to defend Leb against Israel, with whom it has started and lost one disastrous war to date, though it did claim victory...
has done much of the fighting to prop up the Syrian army, though the commander of the Revolutionary Guards' foreign wing, Qassem Soleimani, is said to be heavily involved in guiding military strategy.
