Witnessed that the armed individual stopped the victims’ vehicle, a Toyota Corolla, in the Kuh-e Melli area and then proceeded to open fire on the passengers.
The attackers targeted Mohammad Taqi Sadeghi, the imam of the Rasoul-e Azam Mosque, and Mohammad Mohsen Hamidi, the imam of the Hazrat Abolfazl Mosque in Herat’s Jibril district, as they were attending a memorial ceremony for Mohammad Etemadi, who had been assassinated by unidentified armed individuals in the Khoshroud area of Anjil Herat.
According to reports, during the past one and half months, at least four Hazara holy mans or religious leaders have been killed in Herat.
The UN Special Rapporteur on Human Rights for Afghanistan had previously stated that they were investigating the "very concerning" liquidation of two Shia holy mans in Herat.
Richard Bent, the UN official, had called for an independent investigation following international morals into this incident and the punishment of the perpetrators.

The EU naval forces captured the pirates who seized the fishing dhow near Eyl town in the Puntland state of Somalia. They were demanding $400,000 in ransom while threatening to use the vessel as a mother ship for additional assaults on commercial shipping.
EUNAVFOR said that close and effective cooperation with Somali police forces and local authorities has eventually led to the surrender of suspected pirates who kidnapped the Iranian fishing vessel AL-MERAJ 1.

Local vigilantes on Friday killed a notorious kidnapper, Dogo Oro, in Tunga village in Bunza Local Government Area of Kebbi State in the North-Western region of Nigeria.
The Chief Press Secretary to the Kebbi State Governor, Ahmed Idris, who made this known in a statement said the kidnapper launched attacks with sporadic shooting at people with bows and arrows in one of the surrounding villages of Kanzanna on Friday.
"The security progress report indicated that today, 01/12/2023, from Tunga village in Tilli ward, Bunza local government, a notorious kidnapper called Dogo Oro, who was well known for terrorism in Bunza and Kalgo local government areas, was killed this morning by our men, the vigilantes at Tunga area."
Idris added that Oro had been kidnapping innocent villagers and demanding ransom for their release.
According to him, with the successful operation by the local vigilantes, the residents of the communities can now go about their normal business activities unhindered, with the security of their lives and properties guaranteed.
Idris who extolled the efforts of the vigilantes in supporting other security operatives, appreciated the support of the state Governor, Nasir Idris in ensuring that the security challenges in some council areas of the state are critically addressed.
The Chief Press Secretary said that regular security meetings and logistical support for security personnel would be a priority for all security agencies to address banditry and criminality in the state.

A “potential explosion” has struck a key shipping route off the coast of Yemen, the British military says.
The British military’s United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations issues a brief warning to shippers that the incident happened in the Bab el-Mandeb Strait, which separates East Africa from the Arabian Peninsula.
The UKMTO said drone activity also has been reported in the area.
The Bab el-Mandeb links the Red Sea to the Gulf of Aden. That area has seen a series of attacks in recent weeks attributed to Yemen’s Iranian-backed Houthi rebels, who have also launched missiles and drones toward Israel over its war on Hamas in the Gaza Strip.
The Houthis did not immediately acknowledge the incident.

La Belle France's Interior Minister Gérald Darmanin said an attacker had targeted tourists around the Quai de Grenelle, which is close to the Eiffel Tower.
He added that a 26-year-old French national known to security services had been arrested.
The suspect approached a tourist couple and fatally stabbed a German national, he said.
The man was then pursued by police and attacked two other people with a hammer before being stopped with a Taser and arrested. The injured were treated by emergency services.
Mr Darmanin said the alleged attacker had shouted "Allahu Akbar", Arabic for "God is greatest", and later told police he was upset because "so many Moslems are dying in Afghanistan and in Paleostine".
He said the suspect was sentenced to four years in prison in 2016 for planning a separate attack and was on the French security services watchlist.
The man was also known to have suffered psychiatric disorders, Mr Darmanin said.
The assailant was born in Neuilly-Sur-Seine, a Paris suburb.

The French Iranian knifeman who allegedly stabbed a tourist to death and wounded two others including an Englishman in Paris has now been named and pictured, and is a well-known convicted terrorist with severe psychiatric problems.
Despite this, Armand Rajabpour-Miyandoab, 26, was released from prison in 2020, and left to live at home with his parents while undergoing 'psychiatric and neurological treatment'.
The son of two Iranian refugees who was born in France, he had converted to Islam in 2015 after being radicalised online by an ISIS supporter, according to prosecution documents.
Rajabpour-Miyandoab was well known for forging online links with other terrorists including Larossi Aballa, who went on to stab two police officers to death in Magnanville in June 2016.
Another Facebook friend was Adel Kermiche, one of the perpetrators of the stabbing to death of a Catholic priest in Saint-Étienne du Rouvray in the same year.
Many of those linked with such crimes were, like Rajabpour-Miyandoab, on an S-File, which means they are officially under surveillance.
Rajabpour-Miyandoab later claimed to have completed a 'deradicalization programme', claiming he had lost interest in terrorism. He was let out of prison early in 2020, and put on a treatment programme for 'psychiatric and neurological problems,' according to an investigating source. In court in 2018, he said: 'Islamism was ruining my life,' while claiming he had taken to drinking beer and eating pork - activities which are barred to practising Muslims.
But online activity showed that Rajabpour-Miyandoab was still researching how to make phosphorus bombs, and posted a video of himself disguised, and making political statements. He regularly bemoaned the number of Muslims who were being killed in global conflicts including Afghanistan and Israel-Hamas. At one point he accused France of 'being complicit' in 'war crimes' committed by Israeli forces against thousands of massacred Palestinian civilians. During his time in custody he had frequently complained about 'Muslims being killed in Afghanistan and Palestine'. He had also referenced the current Israel-Hamas conflict, claiming that 'France was complicit' with Israel in the massacre of thousands of Palestinians in Gaza.
He fatally stabbed the as-yet-unnamed German tourist, born in the Philippines in 1999, with a knife in the back and shoulder, which led to a cardiorespiratory arrest before he passed away.
The second victim of the attack was British, and was out walking with his wife when Armand R. attacked him from behind.
'The family were on the Avenue President Kennedy when they were set upon,' said an investigating source, who added: 'A hammer was used to hit the man over the head.'
The Englishman was rushed to hospital, where his condition was later described as 'stable'. A third victim was also badly hurt in a hammer attack, said the source.

[8NEWSNOW] Las Vegas police and the FBI thwarted a potential terror plot involving a 16-year-old, police said Friday.
During a news conference, Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department officials detailed an investigation into a terror threat on a social media platform. The image of the threat was shown by LVMPD officials. It read:
"Peace be upon all brothers who see this. I am here to announce that I will be starting lone wolf operations

Police immediately initiated a multi-agency investigation, officials said, and increased security in the area. Within hours of identifying the threat, police said they were able to identify the individual responsible and his location.
Police described the suspect as a 16-year-old from Las Vegas who was a recent convert to Islam.

A search warrant was served, and the teenager was taken into custody without incident. A police search found components for building an improvised bomb along with bomb-making recipes and instructions, Deputy Chief Dori Koren said Friday.
Additionally, police found terrorism propaganda, a handmade ISIS flag, a headband and patches. Evidence also included ISIS and al-Qaeda propaganda, radicalization materials, and guidance for conducting a terrorist attack, Sherlocks said. Police also found self-portraits of the suspect wearing the material and surrounded by propaganda, self-produced terrorism propaganda and anti-Semitic threats.
The teenager faces felony charges of terroristic threats, attempting to further an act of terrorism, providing material support to a terrorist, terrorist organization, and/or act of terrorism, and five counts of possession of an explosive component. His name was not released due to his age.
Investigators said there was no indication of a continued threat, calling it "isolated."

[GEO.TV] At least eight people were killed and 16 injured after person or persons unknown opened fire on a passenger bus on Karakoram Highway in Chilas, police said on Saturday.
Following the attack, the driver of the bus lost control and collided with a truck which ignited fire and burnt the truck.
The bus was traveling from Ghizar district of Gilgit-Baltistan to Rawalpindi, the police added.
The deputy commissioner of Chilas said the injured and bodies were being shifted to a nearby hospital.
DC Ahmad said the bus bearing registration number BLN-4647 was owned by a private company.
He said the "cowards" indiscriminately fired on the bus. "There are a total of eight bodies, out of which five have been identified and the rest are under process," he added.
G-B Home Minister Shams Lone termed the attack on the bus an "open terrorism" and pledged that the attackers would be brought to justice.
He also said that Indian involvement in the attack cannot be ruled out.
[Shafaq News] Two military leaders in the Peshmerga forces revealed on Friday movements and activity by ISIS in the vacant areas between the Kurdistan Region (KRI) and Saladin governorate, confirming the existence of more than 200 km² of security-restricted areas since 2017.
Colonel Hakim Karim Sati, Commander of Brigade 17 in the Peshmerga, informed Shafaq News Agency that "ISIS elements have started moving on cycle of violences from the Kalabat areas towards the Gora mountains and the restricted areas due to the absence of security forces there."
Sati affirmed that "the military Arclight airstrike ...KABOOM!... s targeted ISIS movement locations in coordination with the army on the outskirts of Tuz Khurmatu mountains, bordering Kurdistan," indicating that "ISIS is attempting to establish a presence in vacant areas and evade pursuit."

Warani emphasized that "the joint coordination brigades will engage in combat training starting tomorrow at the Qarqush camp in Diyala governorate to implement the joint coordination plan and address the security vacuums and eradicate any remaining ISIS presence."
It is noteworthy that Brigade 731 is located on the borders of Kifri district in eastern Saladin on the outskirts of Tuz Khurmatu district, with four units spread across to safeguard security zones, villages, and critical areas, while Brigade 17 operates in the Balka and Juwan Row areas.

Two ISIS attacks on Gobtapa village near Makhmour resulted in the death of an Iraqi army soldier and injury of five others, Ghazi Faisal, head of a unit of Peshmerga volunteers in Makhmour district, told Rudaw on Saturday.
"We are now with the Iraqi army in the village and have surrounded the ISIS fighters," Faisal said.
It is the second suspected ISIS assault in Iraq in two days after a deadly attack in Diyala’s Muqdadiya district (known as Sharaban in Kurdish) on Thursday evening left at least ten civilians dead and 17 injured. The incident drew condemnations from Iraqi and Kurdish officials and raised concern about ISIS sleeper cell activities in the disputed territories.

According to the IDF, troops of the 7037th Reserve Battalion, operating at a checkpoint near the West Bank city, identified a suspect approaching them.
As the soldiers attempted to question him, the suspect drew a knife and began to approach the troops, the IDF says.
The soldiers in response opened fire, killing the man.
No soldiers are hurt in the incident, the IDF says.

Col. Asaf Hamami, 41, the commander of the Gaza Division’s Southern Brigade, is recognized as a "fallen soldier held by a terror group," the IDF announces. Hamami was from Kiryat Ono.
In recent days, the IDF has been confirming the deaths of several hostages held by Hamas, due to new intelligence and findings obtained by troops.
Hamami is the most senior officer to have been taken hostage by Hamas.
Another three colonels were killed on October 7 but were not taken: Col. Jonathan Steinberg, 42, the commander of the Nahal Brigade; Col. Roi Levy, 44, the commander of the Multidomain Unit, also known as the “Ghost” Unit; and Col. (res.) Lion Bar, 53, a retired senior officer in the Judea and Samaria Division.
The death of Hamami brought the toll of fallen IDF soldiers since the outbreak of the war on October 7 to 396.

Binyamin, 53, from Rehovot, was on a bicycle ride with friends near Kibbutz Be’eri when the assault started. He tried to return home but lost contact with his family. His car was later found riddled with bullets.
His brother Shuki told Ynet the army had previously told the family to prepare for the possibility that his fate may never be known.
Several people remain unaccounted for after the Hamas assault, with no evidence of them being taken hostage and no remains found. Some bodies from the massacre have been almost impossible to identify due to the damage suffered.

Washington has transferred 100 BLU-109 bombs to Israel that are meant to penetrate hardened structures before exploding, the report said, citing unnamed US officials.
The bomb carries a warhead weighing more than 900 kilogrammes (19,80 pounds) and has previously been used by the US in conflicts including the war in Afghanistan.

According to the WSJ, large bombs made by the US have been used in some of the deadliest Israeli attacks on the Gaza Strip, including a strike that levelled an apartment block in the Jabalia refugee camp, killing more than 100 people. Israel said the attack was justified as it killed a Hamas leader.
Israel’s intense aerial bombing of Gaza restarted shortly after the end of a weeklong truce on Friday that saw dozens of captives held in Gaza exchanged for Paleostinians held in Israeli prisons. Many dozens of Paleostinians have already been killed less than 24 hours after the strikes resumed.

There are a bunch of ISIS-linked groups in the Philippines, some of them no more than a family and its retainers.
An explosion at a Catholic Mass in a university gymnasium in Marawi city in the Philippines killed three and injured nine people on Sunday.
The explosion occurred at Mindanao State University in the Lanao del Sur province in the southern part of the country, the regional police director, Brigadier General Allan Nobleza, told news hounds. He added that investigations were still underway, and it was possible that the attack was planned by pro-Islamic State bully boys.
Classes were suspended and more forces were deployed across the university.
Marawi is the country's largest Moslem city and was besieged by Islamist turbans in for five months in 2017.
The Philippine military said on Saturday they had killed 11 bully boys, including members of the Dawlah Islamiyah-Philippines, a pro-Islamic State group, in a military operation the day before in Maguindanao del Sur province.
A new round of festivities erupted Saturday morning between the Israeli army and Hezbollah in the Lebanese-Israel border region.
In a statement, Hezbollah said it fired rockets at artillery positions in the Khirbat Maer Israeli post near the border. The Israeli army later said that shells were fired at the Shomera area in northern Israel and that it responded with artillery fire.

Earlier in the day, two mortars were fired from Lebanon at the northern community of Shomera. Both projectiles landed in open areas, causing no injuries.
During the afternoon, several rockets were also fired at army posts along the border, the military said.
In both instances, the IDF said it shelled the source of fire with artillery. The military also said it carried out airstrikes against terror infrastructure in southern Lebanon.
Hezbollah claimed responsibility for the attacks throughout the day. On Friday, the terror group also launched attacks on the north as the war in Gaza restarted.

[Regnum] Four F-16 fighter jets of the Israeli Air Force carried out strikes on the outskirts of the Syrian capital Damascus on the night of December 2. Deputy head of the Center for the Reconciliation of Warring Parties, Vadim Kulit, announced this on Saturday during a briefing.
“On December 2, from 01:33 to 01:39, four tactical fighters F-16 of the Israeli Air Force from the airspace of the occupied Golan high attacked targets in the vicinity of the city of Damascus with guided bombs ,” he said.
The deputy head of the TsPVS noted that most of the Israeli air bombs were shot down by the Syrian air defense forces using the Pantsir-S and Buk-M2E complexes. There were no casualties or injuries as a result of the attack by the Israeli Air Force.
As Regnum reported , the Syrian state TV channel Al Ikhbariya previously reported an attack by the Israel Defense Forces on the outskirts of the Syrian capital on December 2. On November 26, Damascus airport was also attacked by Israel. The Israeli Air Force attacked the runways of the capital's airport.
