According to local sources, the festivities came after leaders of the UAE-funded "Shabwani Elite" militia refused to recruit hundreds of sons of al-Awaliq tribe that Awad al-Wazir, appointed by the UAE as the governor of the province, is belonging to.

Al-Wazir is heading to establish a military force to remain under his supervision in Ataq city.

The confrontations, with the UAE-backed Southern Transitional Council forces, came after al-Wazir held images of the former president Ali Saleh inside the STC’s headquarters.
