Beyonce: My Hair Is Stuck In The Fan!
[TMZ] Beyonce was caught in a real-life EMERGENCY on stage at her concert last night when her hair got tangled up in a stage fan -- and the crew scrambled to free the singer, MID-SONG!!!!!

Queen B was performing "Halo" in Montreal when disaster struck ... but like the PRO that she is, Beyonce continued to sing during the incident, NEVER ONCE MISSING A SINGLE BEAT.

Eventually, a crew member with a pair of scissors cut Beyonce free ... and she sashayed away from the devil equipment.

After the show, Beyonce posted a poetic note to her fans explaining the situation ... saying, "I got snatched."

Obviously a tea party member set up a high capacity assault fan in the war on women and minorities; a binder full of women.

Doubt the offending strands were attached at the follicle, however....

Polio outbreak kills 11 people in Hiraan region
BELEDWEYNE, Somalia -- A polio outbreak in Somalia has claimed at killed at least 11 lives in Hiraan region of south central Somalia, Garowe Online reports. Speaking on Puntland-based independent station Radio Garowe, the Director of Beledweyne General Hospital Dr. Ahmed Mohamed Khalif said “four people” died of Polio virus in Beledweyne General Hospital while “seven others” died in Moqokori town of Hiraan region due to the outbreak.

Dr. Ahmed added that WHO helped Beledweyne health centers in conducting vaccine exercises targeting children below five years “Since Beledweyne is the administrative capital, the vaccination campaign has began here and the immunization process will be extended to the rural areas and the regional districts”.

The scale of the polio outbreak in Somalia seems to be growing as 71 cases were reported from southern Somalia and 11 of the victims perished in Hiraan region.
On 21 May, Puntland Ministry of Health announced that it will launch a door to door immunization campaign targeting children less than five years and that it put the entire health sector on standby due to the recently reported cases including two cases reported from Lasanod town of Sool region.

#2  Thanks to the efforts of the WHO, polio is considered endemic in only three countries - Nigeria, Pakistan and Afghanistan. (yeah, part of the UN is useful and effective. I'm as shocked as you are). This seems significant.

I wonder if polio will come to be considered an Islamic disease in the same way that certain other diseases are associated with occupations or geography.

Congolese Helicopters Blast Rebel Positions
[AnNahar] Three Congolese army helicopters fired on M23 rebel positions near the eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo
...formerly the Congo Free State, Belgian Congo, Zaire, and who knows what else, not to be confused with the Brazzaville Congo aka Republic of Congo, which is much smaller and much more (for Africa) stable. DRC gave the world Patrice Lumumba and Joseph Mobutu, followed by years of tedious civil war. Its principle industry seems to be the production of corpses. With a population of about 74 million it has lots of raw material...
(DRC) bustling provincial capital of Goma on Tuesday.

"Our helicopters have just bombarded enemy positions," a Congolese officer told Agence La Belle France Presse journalists on the frontline after they witnessed the attack.

"Until now the enemy has not yet responded," he added.

The attacks came on the same day as the trial opened in Goma of a soldier and policeman accused of mutilating the corpse of an M23 rebel after festivities last week.

Meanwhile Human Rights Watch
... dedicated to bitching about human rights violations around the world...
(HRW) accused Rwanda of continuing its support of the M23 in a report. It also accused the rebels of summary executions and rape.

The M23 movement said Monday it was only four kilometers (2.5 miles) from Goma, although it stressed its aim was to force the government to negotiate rather than to take the city.

The M23 occupied Goma, the capital of North Kivu province, for 10 days in November before withdrawing from the city following international pressure and in return for a dialogue with Kinshasa, which began in the Ugandan capital Kampala, in December.

But after a truce of around two months, the army and the M23 resumed fighting on July 14. According to the United Nations
...an organization originally established to war on dictatorships which was promptly infiltrated by dictatorships and is now held in thrall to dictatorships...
, the fighting has caused 4,200 people to flee their homes.

Meanwhile the Goma trial of the soldier and policeman got underway with the pair facing allegations made following heavy fighting between the army and the rebels last week.

"There is a soldier and a policeman appearing. They are accused of mutilating the body of an M23 rebel," Lieutenant Colonel Olivier Hamuli, an army military front man who attended the trial, told AFP.

The hearing follows comments made by the head of the U.N., the ephemeral Ban Ki-moon
... of whom it can be said to his credit that he is not Kofi Annan...
, who said he was "deeply concerned" by the mistreatment of M23 rebels.

The issue had also been raised by the U.N. at the highest levels of government in the DRC.

The governor of North Kivu, Julien Paluku, welcomed the trial, saying that "desecrating corpses" is against international law.

But at the same time he called for the "deployment of Office of the ICC (International Criminal Court
... where Milosevich died of old age before being convicted ...
) to investigate the crimes committed" in eastern DRC against the Congolese.

The trial was later adjourned until Thursday to allow the accused to "better prepare their defenses", said the military front man.

The M23 has been active since May 2012 in the mineral-rich province of North Kivu. It is mainly composed of Congolese Tutsi who were integrated into the army following a 2000 peace accord. They mutinied in April 2012 saying the accord was never fully respected.

Kinshasa and the United Nations have accused Rwanda and Uganda of supporting the M23, drawing denials from the RDC's two neighboring countries.

However,
Switzerland makes more than cheese...
HRW said Rwanda was indeed supporting the rebels and accused them of grave abuses.

"Residents of the region and rebel deserters have described recent work showing that the criminal forces of M23 have received support from Rwanda," HRW wrote in its report.

"These activities include regular movements of Rwanda to the DRC of uniformed men of the Rwandan army and the supply of M23 ammunition, food and other supplies from Rwanda."

It also said that rebels had carried out 44 summary executions and raped 61 women and girls since March.

HRW said they had conducted 100 interviews, including with victims on the Congolese/Rwandan border.

However,
Switzerland makes more than cheese...
HRW corrected a claim in the report that Rwandan soldiers had served with the peacekeeping forces in Somalia and Darfur. Rwandan forces had only served in Darfur.

Yolande Makolo, a spokeswoman for the Rwanda presidency, said: "There's nothing new in the HRW report except their false testimony from 'deserters' who claimed they were RDF (Rwandan Defense Forces) peacekeepers in Somalia.

"This proves that HRW will stop at nothing to damage Rwanda."

North Korea Mass Games mark 60th anniversary of Korean War
[TELEGRAPH.CO.UK] North Korea launched a new run of its large-scale "Arirang" performance in Pyongyang on Monday to mark the 60th Anniversary of the end of hostilities during the Korean War.

Often referred to as the "Mass Games" outside Korea, up to 100,000 performers took part in the series of acrobatic, dance and pictorial displays at the capital's May Day Stadium.

Many performers are students and schoolchildren, while some are professional dancers and acrobats.

Famously, much of the audience seating in the stadium is taken up by performers who manipulate a series of coloured cards to create moving images in a similar way to pixels on a television screen.

North Korea calls the event a "mass gymnastic and artistic performance". North Korea's state news agency KCNA reported last month that this year's Arirang would "represent the undying feats Generalissimo Kim Il Sung performed in winning the war, as well as the feats Generalissimo Kim Jong Il performed in leading the Songun (military-first) revolution."

French MP Gilles Bourdouleix under fire over Nazi Roma remark
[INDEPENDENT.CO.UK] A French mayor faces prosecution and expulsion from the centre-right UDI party after saying he wished the Nazis had murdered more Roma gypsies during the Second World War.

Gilles Bourdouleix, who is also the MP for Cholet, near Nantes, made the comment after 150 traveller caravans moved on to a municipally owned field near his town on Sunday.

The gypsies refused requests to move on and made Nazi salutes at the mayor, according to reports. A regional newspaper, the Courrier de L'Ouest, reported that Mr Bourdouleix then turned away and said: "Maybe Hitler didn't kill enough of them."

The mayor told a television channel his comments had been distorted and threatened to sue the newspaper. But the Courrier de L'Ouest's news hound captured him making the remark and the paper posted the audio recording on its website yesterday, saying it would sue him for libel.

The Interior minister, Manuel Valls, asked the local prosecutor to bring a case against Mr Bourdouleix for "apologising for crimes against humanity". Up to 500,000 Roma were killed by the Nazis during the war.
...Which has been claimed to be 90% of the Roma population at the time.

Principal in India Tainted Lunch Deaths Is Arrested
[NY Times] Nine days after she disappeared, the principal of a school in eastern India where 23 children died after eating a lunch tainted with pesticide was arrested Wednesday by the police. The principal, Meena Kumari, had been on her way to surrender before a judge in Chapra
...sure she was, just getting around to it...
when she was detained by the police, the district police chief, Sujeet Kumar, said in a telephone interview.

Ms. Kumari was among the most wanted people in India after she fled her school in the village of Dharmasati Gandawa in Bihar's Saran district when the children in her school started vomiting soon after eating a free lunch. Forensic tests have confirmed that the cooking oil used to prepare the meal of rice, beans, potato curry and soy balls was contaminated with pesticide. Ms. Kumari bought the cooking oil from a store owned by her husband, who might have stored the cooking oil in a container once filled with pesticide, the police said.

Since the only other adult at the school was the school's cook, who also fell deathly ill, Ms. Kumari's departure meant that the ailing children were left to fend for themselves, according to villagers and state officials. Some staggered home to die in the arms of their parents.

The children complained that the meal tasted odd, but Ms. Kumari insisted that it was fine, officials said.

In the days after, television journalists picked through parts of Ms. Kumari's empty house, showing rooms filled with old bicycles and other items. Some parents buried their children in front of the school as a way of protesting the deaths.

School lunch programs became universal in India after a 2001 order by the country's Supreme Court, and free meals are now served to 120 million children -- by far the largest such program in the world. The program has been credited with improving school attendance. With some surveys suggesting that nearly half of Indian children suffer some form of malnutrition, it also serves a vital health purpose.
