Norway: Boys told no standing to urinate

#2  And yet, once they were vikings.
Posted by: anonymous5089 || 09/28/2006 11:56 Comments || Top||

#3  Seems God was just about done creating the universe, but he had two extra things left in his bag of creations, so he decided to split them between Adam and Eve. He told the couple that one of the things he had to give away was the ability to stand up while urinating.

"It's a very handy thing," God told the couple, who he found under an apple tree. "I was wondering if either one of you wanted that ability."

Before God had a chance to explain any further, Adam jumped up and blurted, "Oh, give that to me! I'd love to, please, oh please, oh please, let me have that ability, It'd be so great! When I'm working in the garden or naming the animals. I could just stand there and let it fly. It'd be so cool, I could write my name in the sand. Oh please God, let it be me who you give that gift to, let me stand and pee, oh please..." Adam went on and on like an excited little boy who had to pee.

Eve just smiled and told God that if Adam really wanted that so badly, that he should have it. It seemed to be the sort of thing that would make him happy and she really wouldn't mind if Adam were the one given this ability.

And so Adam was given the ability to control the direction of his misdirection while in a vertical position. And so, he was happy and did celebrate by wetting down the bark on the tree nearest him, laughing with delight all the while. And it was good.

"Fine," God said, looking back into his bag of leftover gifts, "What's left here? Oh yes, Multiple orgasms..."

Posted by: john || 09/28/2006 17:21 Comments || Top||

#13  It is Makrooh (disliked) in Shari'ah for a person to stand and urinate without any valid excuse. In the situation mentioned herein, it is a question of doubt that you are not sure whether the seat is clean or not. To eradicate the doubt, you may clean the toilet seat with toilet paper.

It is makruh to urinate standing upright because it is more afdal for Muslim men to squat down while urinating. The azab in the grave also awaits men who do not wash after urinating. Wallahualam.

Sonny Nicole Smith Died From Lethal Combination Of Drugs
SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico, September 27, 2006 - Anna Nicole Smith's 20-year-old son died from a lethal combination of methadone and two antidepressant drugs, the U.S.-based pathologist who conducted a private autopsy said Wednesday.
“Toxicology tests showed Daniel Smith had methadone, Zoloft and Lexapro in his system when he died...”
Toxicology tests showed Daniel Smith had methadone, Zoloft and Lexapro in his system when he died Sept. 10 in a hospital room in the Bahamas where his mother was recuperating from giving birth to a daughter, according to Cyril Wecht. Methadone is used to treat heroin addiction. "The fact that we have these drugs and the levels of the drugs overwhelmingly and most logically point to this being a tragic, accidental, drug-related death," Wecht told The Associated Press from his home near Pittsburgh.

I still maintain that the longterm effects of all these SRI drugs, antidepressants, antianxiety meds and antipsychotics that are being handed out like so much candy will come back home to roost in a horrendous way.

We are letting the drug companies tinker with the most fundamental aspects of our brain chemistries in ways that were not even dreamed of a few decades ago. The short clinical trials that are used to qualify these powerful mind altering agents are like crash-testing all cars at speeds of less than 20 MPH.

#8  Methadone is used sometimes for chronic pain. As an example, it can be a real blessing for patients with near end-stage cancer and intractable pain. It has a long half-life and doesn't generate a 'buzz'.

For a young man, however, the only usual application for methadone is as a substitute for heroin.

Well, not to quibble, but I would be VERY miserable without my SSRI. (Yes I am one of the mentally infirm.) However, I would certainly agree that 'stacking' all of these western drugs can mess people up (Lexipro AND Zoloft? WTF??) Personally, I use my SSRI as one part of a program that includes an Eastern remedy (for insomnia), diet (a huge and under-rated part), excercise, and accupuncture. Put them together and I am a very happy camper.
Posted by: Chinter Flarong9283 || 09/28/2006 14:53 Comments || Top||

#11  I understand, CF9283, and am glad you are able to derive such great benefit from the positive potential that SSRIs have. I'm also glad to note your aversion to "stacking" any of these powerful medications. Even if the individual drugs themselves are relatively safe, their synergies represent the stuff of psychiatric nightmares. I think you are very wise to combine non-drug based therapies with your regimen of prescribed medication. You have most certainly reduced your risk profile by leaps and bounds. I wish you every happiness in overcoming whatever demons may haunt you.
Posted by: Zenster || 09/28/2006 15:28 Comments || Top||

#12  My own intermittant experience with SSRIs is that the wrong ones either do absolutely nothing or very clearly (within hours) make things much, much worse; on the flip side, the right chemical at the right dose equally clearly restores mental clarity and emotional balance, and reduces the ongoing exhaustion that that is a side effect of anxiety and depression. Also, the same chemical (each SSRI is slightly different) that works at one time for a person may not work, or work negatively, another time. Again, one becomes keenly aware of this within hours of swallowing the pill. Finally, while for some people the SSRI addresses a permanent brain chemical imbalance, for others simply taking the medicine for a period of time (usually one year) is enough to reset things at one's north end. I've a friend whose daughter was diagnosed as obsessive-compulsive at the age of five, took meds for one year, and has been both medicine-free and OC-free for the past decade -- now a happy, successful young lady.

I agree that the things are overprescribed; but, while the various problems that SSRIs fix are dramatically visible on a PET scan, as is the change wrought by the medications, few are willing to pay the $1500+ per scan to get a definitive diagnosis before the scripts are handed out. It turns out that each of the various anxiety disorders and depression cause visibly different firing patterns, as visible as Alzheimers in the pictures I saw -- no artistic subtlety is necessary to read these scans! Rather, too much of the medical and psychiatric profession are willing to diagnose backwards from the result, ie "If it works, there's your cause," just as ADHD is often enough diagnosed because Ritalin is effective.

#5  The mother allows men to pick up her daughter from her home at night and has also been pushing her to have a sexual relationship with a pastor at her church. “I don’t ask where she goes and what she does," she said. "I am just happy that she is able to bring something to the table. How did you think I could afford expensive clothes for her and her brother and the mountain bike my son has

This woman is willing to attend a church where the pastor wants to rape her daughter and she has no qualms about it? That and what follows speaks volumes about how badly things are off of the rails. Since when are "expensive clothes" and a "mountain bike" things that are brought "to the table"? Food on the table to survive I might be able to understand, but I'd sooner go about in filthy rags than whore my child just to keep up with the Joneses. All of this points towards one horrific conclusion.

The increasing demands by women for material rewards in exchange for sex is beginning to have another social impact. Married men interviewed by IWPR said it was becoming prohibitively expensive to engage in extra-marital affairs. “Women, especially those we refer to as the 'youth policy', are unmanageable, even for the so-called rich," said one financial executive.

Only the completely amoral have ever been able to ignore the high price that infidelity exacts upon personal integrity.

The consequences of transactional sex, bolstered by a culture in which male infidelity has often been explicitly or implicitly sanctioned, are catastrophic. Zimbabwean women now have the shortest lifespan in the world, according to the World Health Organisation. Largely as a result of HIV/AIDS, Zimbabwean women now have a life expectancy of 34 years and men of 37

I become increasingly convinced that the only cure for such a deeply dysfunctional culture is the AIDS virus. So much of sub-Saharan Africa is morally disfigured and ethically maimed to such an extent that simply wiping the slate clean may be the most humane thing to do.

#8  While the article focuses on some who do it for nice clothes - the thrust of the article was that women were doing it due to deep poverty and a need to survive.
Posted by: anon || 09/28/2006 9:13 Comments || Top||

#9  it will go downhill in a hurry.

Not unlike the south of Africa.

Zen is correct. He did not argue that sex has been transactional, only that some market structures, if you wish to pursue the analogy, are more informed, functional and productive than others. Inverse yield curves are deleterious.
Posted by: Nimble Spemble || 09/28/2006 9:32 Comments || Top||

#10  Don't know if this is transactional. However it seems close. So it would appear to be just another manisfation of the female brain.

"And the evidence suggests that, for all the economic and social advances women have made, the powerful desire to have and care for children means many women are still interested in finding a provider. It's part of what Brizendine calls the "inherited architecture of the female brain's mate-choice system"."

#11  Is transactional the right word? If there is a failure, you can't rollback the transaction.

Posted by: .com || 09/28/2006 16:06 Comments || Top||

#13  First off, thank you, Nimble Spemble for so readily grasping the gist of my prior post.

I disagree, Zen...and sex has been transactional since Day One.

Where did I say it is not? Even though I intensely dislike such a mechanically reductive assessment of what can easily be one of the most spiritual experiences two people can possibly share. While early sexual ritual and contract forms may have pivoted upon roles entrenched by hunter-gatherer social constructs, there is zero reason to assume that they have not or cannot evolve well beyond such a mechanistic configuration.

Much of sub-Saharan Africa defines the intersection of modern wealth, hyper-corruption and futile attempts to carry forward tribal structures into progressive society. This sociological trainwreck mirrors the consequences of maintaining outmoded morals and ethics just as Islam reflects the upshot of hanging onto an outdated religion. The quotes I excerpted and commented upon were specifically selected to highlight this.

Don't know if this is transactional. However it seems close. So it would appear to be just another manisfation of the female brain.

Great article, for all sorts of reasons, tipper. As mentioned in it, the "unisex" brain hypothesis is not only just plain wrong, it is dangerously wrong. Just as moral relativism is an insult to rationality so is the concept of physical equality. All men are not created equal. Some are born retarded, others crippled and yet others deformed. What remains is that all men are created equal under the eyes of the law (as it should be), but most certainly not in the natural world.

So it is with gender based brain structures. The sole fact that women are less lateralized than men point towards huge differences in thought processes and perception. Lateralization refers to the distribution of mental processes across both hemispheres of the human brain. Men tend to have given functions isolated within a single hemisphere representing greater lateralization. This is why women rarely suffer complete aphasia as a result of temporal brain injury. More lateralized males often lose all capacity for speech and must be retaught language subsequent to similar injuries. The mere fact that women more readily combine the intuitive and analytical functions of both their hemispheres literally demands that there be significant gender related differences in mental processing.

That said and done with, I still do not find any historical basis for transactional sex being able to explain away the outrageously amoral conduct described in this article. The passages of text that I highlighted indicate human value structures that have quite possibly deteriorated beyond all hope of rescue or redemption.

Without long term implanted female contraceptives like Norplant to protect young women from perpetual pregnancy and a complete sea change in the patriarchal structure of institutionalized male privilege, sub-Saharan Africa especially, but also large parts of the Islamic and undeveloped world may well face a death knell from HIV/AIDS and the hyper-corruption I mention. Personally, it is increasingly difficult to excuse or find sympathy for these corrupt and outdated cultures. Any pity I might have goes out only to the innocent children who are warped into such twisted circumstances.

Bangladesh power shortage triggers violent protests
Thousands of people went on a rampage in the Bangladeshi capital on Thursday, setting fire to power supply offices and attacking government vehicles in the latest protests over electricity shortages, witnesses said. More than 150 people were injured as police fired tear gas and rubber bullets in pitched battles with the protesters, incensed by the worst outages in Dhaka which have come during the Muslim holy month of Ramadan that began on Monday.

A Reuters photographer said he saw thick smoke from a power distribution office in Dhaka's Mirpur area that had been set fire to by a 5000-strong mob early on Thursday. The protesters also set on fire a police vehicle in the old quarter of Dhaka and burned tyres on the streets. Another group of protesters squatted on the highway linking Dhaka with the port city of Chittagong in the south, demanding uninterrupted power supply. "We have spent two nights without electricity," said Azad Majumder, a resident of Mirpur. "Children are falling sick, everybody's life is becoming a hell." Police chased stone-throwing protesters down narrow alleys of the city of 10 million people.

A shortage of drinking water and rising prices of essential goods have fueled the anger. State Minister for Home Affairs, Lutfuzzaman Babar said "enemies" of the government were behind the protests. But he did not give any names.

A 14-party opposition alliance led by the Awami League has been running a street campaign for months to force the government to accept electoral reforms ahead of elections next year.

Protests were also reported from Chittagong on Thursday which has been hit by power shortages running into hours. Bangladesh faces a daily electricity shortfall of 2,000 megawatts and the situation is unlikely to improve for several years, officials said. State minister Babar said power to factories will be reduced and diverted to households in Dhaka for a few hours each night.
At least 18 power generation plants out of a total of 61 are shut for technical faults or maintenance, and plans to build new power stations have not taken off because of lack of funds. "We urge the consumers to be patient and give us some time to repair power plants and increase production," A.N.M. Akhtar Hossain, secretary of the Power Ministry, told reporters.

Clinton: All you need is ubuntu
Bill Clinton told the Labour conference to get into ubuntu. Eh?

Ubuntu. That was what Bill Clinton told the Labour party conference it needed to remember this week. "Society is important because of Ubuntu."

But what is it? Left-leaning sudoku? U2's latest album? Fish-friendly sushi?

No, it's a word describing an African worldview, which translates as "I am because you are," and which means that individuals need other people to be fulfilled.

The former president, husky-voiced and down-home with the delegates, gave it a folksy flavour, describing it in terms of needing to be around others to enjoy being ourselves.

"If we were the most beautiful, the most intelligent, the most wealthy, the most powerful person - and then found all of a sudden that we were alone on the planet, it wouldn't amount to a hill of beans," said Mr Clinton.

The word comes from the Bantu languages spoken in southern Africa - and is related to a Zulu concept - "umuntu ngumuntu ngabantu" - which means that a person is only a person through their relationship to others.

And it's entered the political lexicon through the political changes in South Africa.

Archbishop Desmond Tutu, in his book No Future Without Forgiveness, says: "Ubuntu is very difficult to render into a Western language... It is to say, 'My humanity is caught up, is inextricably bound up, in what is yours.'"

China blinding US satellites
More in-depth than the article posted 26 SEP 06

China has secretly fired powerful laser weapons designed to disable American spy satellites by "blinding" their sensitive surveillance devices, it was reported yesterday. The hitherto unreported attacks have been kept secret by the Bush administration for fear that it would damage attempts to co-opt China in diplomatic offensives against North Korea and Iran.

Sources told the military affairs publication Defense News that there had been a fierce internal battle within Washington over whether to make the attacks public. In the end, the Pentagon's annual assessment of the growing Chinese military build-up barely mentioned the threat. "After a contentious debate, the White House directed the Pentagon to limit its concern to one line," Defense News said.

The document said that China could blind American satellites with a ground-based laser firing a beam of light to prevent spy photography as they pass over China. According to senior American officials: "China not only has the capability, but has exercised it." American satellites like the giant Keyhole craft have come under attack "several times" in recent years.

Although the Chinese tests do not aim to destroy American satellites, the laser attacks could make them useless over Chinese territory. The American military has been so alarmed by the Chinese activity that it has begun test attacks against its own satellites to determine the severity of the threat. Satellites are especially vulnerable to attack because they have predetermined orbits, allowing an enemy to know where they will appear.

"The Chinese are very strategically minded and are extremely active in this arena. They really believe all the stuff written in the 1980s about the high frontier," said one senior former Pentagon official. So do I.

There has been increasing alarm in parts of the American military establishment over China's growing military ambitions. Military experts have already noted that Chinese military expenditure is increasingly designed to challenge American military pre-eminence by investing in weaponry that can attack key systems such as aircraft carriers and satellites.

At the same time, China in conjunction with the Democratic National Committee is engaged in a large-scale espionage effort against American high-tech firms working on projects such as the multibillion-pound DD(X) destroyer programme. Several spy rings have been cracked and the FBI is increasing the number of counter-intelligence staff tracking the Chinese effort.

Howard Dean Delusional: Vows 'We are going to take back Texas'
Democratic National Committee chairman Howard Dean came to Austin Tuesday to rally Democrats. "We are going to take back Texas. And we're going to do it before we take back other states we've lost the last 15-20 years," Dean said during the rally.

The former Presidential candidate fired up the troops at Scholz Garten in downtown Austin. Dean predicts statewide and nationally Democrats will make big gains in November. He says between the war in Iraq and deficit, the Republicans have taken the country in the wrong direction.

Kos Kiddies' Darling Lamont Behind Lieberman in Polls
Democrat Ned Lamont continues to struggle to find support among Republican and unaffiliated voters in his attempt to defeat three-term incumbent Sen. Joe Lieberman in November's Connecticut Senate election, according to a Quinnipiac University poll released Thursday.
Hmm. You mean those pix with the Rev Al and Rev Jesse didn't help his cause? Or the ones of Joe in blackface? Whoda thunk it?
Lieberman maintains a 10-point advantage among likely voters in the poll, leading Lamont 49 percent to 39 percent in a three-way race. Republican Alan Schlesinger trails with 5 percent. The race has tightened slightly since an Aug. 17 poll that showed Lieberman leading 53 percent to 41 percent.

"Ned Lamont has lost momentum. He's gained only two points in six weeks," poll director Douglas Schwartz said. "He's going to have to do something different in the next six weeks or Sen. Joseph Lieberman stays in for another six years."
That's six years of possibly interesting payback to the Dems who stabbed him in the back....get the popcorn....
The race is seen as many as a referendum on President Bush's handling of the Iraq war. Lamont, a political newcomer and multimillionaire, ran on an anti-war platform to upset Lieberman in the Aug. 8 primary. Lieberman, the Democratic nominee for vice president in 2000, is a staunch supporter of the war. He's now running an independent campaign under a party he created.

The Quinnipiac poll showed that Lieberman has higher favorability ratings among likely voters, 51 percent to Lamont's 31 percent. While Lamont has slightly higher favorability numbers among Democrats (47 percent to 43 percent), Lieberman far outdistances his challenger among likely Republican and unaffiliated voters. Seventy percent of Republicans view Lieberman favorably compared to 12 percent for Lamont, and 48 percent of independent voters view Lieberman favorably compared to 30 percent for Lamont.

Unaffiliated voters outnumber crazed, frothing moonbats Democrats and Republicans in the state.

"Lamont wins among those who say conspiracies involving Bushitler, the Joooooos and Halliburton Iraq is the most important issue to their vote, but that is only 35 percent of the electorate," Schwartz said. "Lieberman wins on all the other issues voters say matter most to them, including terrorism and the economy."

Schlesinger, meanwhile, remains an unknown for many voters. Only 3 percent of respondents said they had a favorable view of him and 70 percent say they don't know enough to form an opinion. Schlesinger, who has been shunned by the White House and publicly urged by Gov. M. Jodi Rell to drop out of the race, said he hopes to use two scheduled debates to gain support.

The telephone poll was conducted between Sept. 21-25. Quinnipiac surveyed 1,181 likely voters and the poll has a sampling error margin of plus or minus 3 percentage points.

#3  I used to live in California and I'm not surprised that he would sign this. This is something that the majority of Californians would support, even the Republicans. It is in the collective mindset there that more could and should be done to improve the quality of transportation and air quality and that the corporations need to be forced by government before they will spend the capital required to make it happnen. You can agree or disagree on the benefits of what he is doing - but as a California politician he is just representing his constituents.
Posted by: anon || 09/28/2006 8:43 Comments || Top||

#4  NS - there is more than a bit of truth to the saying, people get the government they deserve.

I doubt even with the writing on the wall with an exodus of industry and capital from the state will alter their concept of reality. Its easier to blame others than clean your own house. As it spirls down into Mexican level of politics, police, and power, watch for real calls for 'reunion'. Something in me says cut the south off and give it back as an example to others of the consequence of their own actions. Just move a real wall north to include that portion south.
Posted by: Omolugum Glerens7117 || 09/28/2006 8:47 Comments || Top||

#5  I don't think the problem is so much the Mexicans as that Caliphornians have passed a tipping point where the majority of them are dependent on the government instead of themselves. The hard working Mexican immigrants will merely be turned into another victim class by the pubvlic employees who exist only to exploit the situation of the downtrodden. This is OK for the rich and famous because they have enough money to live well anywhere and are happy to finance the circus and bread for the masses. But, over time it will divide the state into the very rich and the government dependents with fewer and fewer middle class available to mediate.

Schwartezenegger gave the people an opportunity to free themselves from the tyranny of dependency and public unions. They decisively rejected it. Schwartzenegger's reaction to that rejection is what turned him into a joke. He should have resigned after that repudiation if he had any prinicples. But he just wanted to be the Governator, so he turned on a dime to do the people's will instead of being a leader as he had been. A pathetic display from someone who had been so inspiring. But, as you say the people get the government they deserve.

#6  Nimble, while I agree with much of what you said, Arnie is the best thing that's happened to California in a long time. He's as tough on immigration as the corrupt, democratically controlled government will allow him to be.

The reason that California has a corrupt, democratically controlled government is because for too long the Republican Party tried to force candidates on them that were out of sync with what the California Republicans wanted. While it's true that this will force more businesses out of state as well as some the other things that you wrote - there comes a point where you will lose elections if you don't give the people what they want. Californians want this. Little ol' Californian Republican ladies want this. He's a politician, not a dictator or God, and it would have been suicide for him not to give the majority of the people that he represents what they clearly want.
Posted by: anon || 09/28/2006 9:10 Comments || Top||

#7  If the people want to go to hell, it's our job to help them get there? The alternative to politician is leader, not dictator or God. Anyone can give the masses what they want, that's easy.

Resigning might have been political suicide for him personally. But it might also have been the slap in the face the people of Caliphornia need. In any case he wouldn't have had to sully his reputation by dealing with the thugs who now run Caliphornia unchecked.

That's not for me. That's why I left.

#12  I don't know. I'd really like to see an analysis of the bill before I go jumping off against Arnold. If this is a bill that promotes the decrease of emissions through increased technology that will provide business incentives to the Silicon Valley to develop - then maybe it's not such a bad thing. So he sells it under the label of global warming and picks up votes by throwing the loonies a bone. The real question is what is in this bill? Is this something that is promoting the decrease in use of petroleum? That would be a good thing overall. Does it provide incentives to develop new and better technology? Maybe I'm just wishful thinking, but I'd really like to know what the bill enables.
Posted by: anon || 09/28/2006 13:18 Comments || Top||

#13  It's more of the typical California "I don't care how you do it" crap. Mandated emission cuts (no tax credits or write-offs to buy the technology), plus it will eventually be illegal to buy energy from other states if they don't meet the emission limits.

All this to "solve" a problem that doesn't exist. Oh, well, I guess it's good for Arizona and Nevada and Utah.

#19  What I'm talking about is that if you compare accident and fatality rates in states with saftey inspections against those without inspections in similar states (rural/urban, surface/interstate) there is no statistically significant difference. The inspections are just a mechanism to make money for the garqages by accelerating repairs. i.e. people have a big incentive to see that their car is minimally safe. Those who are stupid enough not to are mostly too stupid to own a car. Those who do are pretty equally distributed by state.

For example, until the 20th Century, being an avant guard artist was almost synonymous with mental illness. Good artists were therefore given much leeway in their behavior. With more modern mental health care, some artists were forced to visit insane asylums to get ideas.

Even today, some of the best truck drivers on the road are clinical morons. Having a lower than normal IQ gives them a much greater attention span, and they neither get distracted nor bored on long hauls. Their safety records are impressive.

People with synesthesia, which is "overlapping senses", like "hearing color" or "seeing time", have resulted in the development of some amazing abstracts in mathmatics and science. Their sense malfunction can allow them to work around seemingly unsolveable problems.

So what do you do with psychopaths? It has been noted that though many are in prison, perhaps the majority lead fairly normal lives, and never commit crimes. And most people would have to have *some* psychopathic ability, or else they would be under the emotional control of everyone else.

A psychopath might make a fine surgeon. They could maintain their objectivity during a painful and damaging procedure, where a normal person would both get sick and be unable to continue, empathizing too much with the patient's pain and suffering.

A psychopath could also make a good prison guard, unresponsive to prisoners' discomfort and desires.

Other situations where a person who empathizes too much would have lower performance.

#9  I'm thinking you've got a kinda relaxed definition of psychopath, 'Moose, lol.

"A person with an antisocial personality disorder, manifested in aggressive, perverted, criminal, or amoral behavior without empathy or remorse."
--American Heritage Dictionary

The lack of empathy is only one aspect.

I say if it's all growed up and broken, then yer gonna hafta kill it. Or let it live with the doc, that was a purdy good idea, tu, lol.

#10  My 32-year-old adopted son isn't psychopathic, but permanently brain-damaged from abuse suffered as a child (before age 2 1/2). He needs constant supervision in some areas, little in others. He can work, but doesn't have the ability to stay with any one job for very long. He needs special care. Right now, he's in a group home that seems to meet most of his needs.

Other people have other problems, some organic, some mechanical. We need to find ways to deal with each one as an individual, instead of using the current government-subsidized "one size fits all" attitude - brought about by the Left's idea that "everyone should be free to make their own choices" - whether they were able to or not. Some people need keepers for a while, others need keepers forever.

#12  .com: here is a medical description, which is a bit more thorough.

The following is a list of items based on the research of Robert Hare, Ph.D. which is derived from the "The Hare Psychopathy Checklist-Revised, 1991, Toronto: Multi-Health Systems." These are the most highly researched and recognized characteristics of psychopathic personality and behavior:

* glibness/superficial charm
* grandiose sense of self worth
* need for stimulation/prone to boredom
* pathological lying
* cunning/manipulative
* lack of remorse or guilt
* shallow emotional response
* callous/lack of empathy
* parasitic lifestyle
* poor behavioral controls
* promiscuous sexual behavior
* early behavioral problems
* lack of realistic long term goals
* impulsivity
* irresponsibility
* failure to accept responsibility for their own actions
* many short term relationships
* juvenile delinquency
* revocation of conditional release
* criminal versatility

Remind you of any ex-President of the United States?

Anyway, note that nowhere in this pathology do you see what people typically think of as "psychopathic" behavior, except when taken as an extreme. Granted, psychopaths in prison are usually extreme cases; but many psychopaths walking the streets who do not commit crimes are far more inclined to other, less obvious and less acute behaviors.

#13  So it appears they've "fixed" the definition. I meant one thing back upon a time. It is much more nuanced, now. So what do they call:

"A person with an antisocial personality disorder, manifested in aggressive, perverted, criminal, or amoral behavior without empathy or remorse."

now?

Republican?

#15  "A person with an antisocial personality disorder, manifested in aggressive, perverted, criminal, or amoral behavior without empathy or remorse."

Now just a bloody moment! Must we slip into personal invectives at every fork in the road?
Posted by: Besoeker || 09/28/2006 19:43 Comments || Top||

#16  .com: the dictionary definition is an extreme.

Someone who drinks two beers a night can be an alcoholic. Alcoholism doesn't mean that all alcoholics are slobbering winos on skid row who spend all day in a bar and have cirrhosis.

Not all psychopaths are chainsaw wielding serial killers or Bill Clinton. The vast majority just might come across as "insensitive" in an emotional situation. They could easily be confused with people who are full of emotions, but behave in a stoical manner and don't show their emotions.

As far as relying on a dictionary definition, it will almost certainly be defined more for common usage, correct or not, and less for medical accuracy.
Posted by: Anonymoose || 09/28/2006 21:34 Comments || Top||

#17  Okay, 'Moose. Semantics can be argued until the end of time. The term used to have a particular meaning - one that was accepted by the general public, the one I prefer over that confabulation.

The list of characteristics you provided do not describe a psychopath, IMHO. They are remarkable mainly for how common they are. I see, primarily, immaturity and manipulation behaviors.

From that list, we were all psychopaths, at least until we grew up and out of the narcissistic stage. Some make it, some don't. But I have to say again I find that catch-all definition absurd.

But that's just my opinion.

And yes, it does remind me of a particular President, lol. He's an immature, infantile, self-absorbed, insecure, lying jerk, but I wouldn't use psychopath... mega-asshole, sure, but not psychopath. :-)

More US Hispanics drawn to Islam

#2  First off, 200,000 as a numer is statis insignificant to both the total number of Hispanics in America + number of practicing Hispanic Christians; and Second, I doubt Hispanic women will want to stay in Islam when they realize how easily they can be divorced, that Men gener decide-approve everything, + intense, even deadly/violent, resistance to any and all forms of female property-material rights whether married or not, and under Islam or not iff married to the wrong kind of Muslim man. As for "heritage", is more related to stereotypical, so-called "Dead White Male/Male" Bashing + anti-Euro/Westernism than anything else. Women had strong pro-active family + public roles in classic, indigenous Central-South American cultures of antiquity - MORE RELATED/AKIN TO PRE-ISLAM OR EARLY ISLAM THAN CONTEMPORARY OR RADICALIST. WISH HER LUCK BECUZ SHE'S GONNA NEED IT.

#4  Muslims are peddling Islam as the authentic religion of Hispanics, while Christianity is linked with colonialism. In context of the slavish media treatment of Islam as benign, conversion is not difficult.

Muslism are winning the GWOT by attrition, because we will not wipe out organized terror groups. Terrorists already have a base in the A-B-C countries of Latin America. We will pay the piper if we accept conversion propaganda as an aspect of free exercise of religion.

#6  Islam is strong. Liberalism is weak. Christianity has been marginalized by liberal control over many of the mainstream Protestant churches and non-stop denigration by the media culture. Too many American Jewish leaders seem more interested in fighting old liberal battles than they do in taking necessary measures such as immigration reform or promoting candidates willing to fight the war on terror.

What surprises me the most is the lack of demand by women to protect what we earned in the 20th Century. While it is no surprise that the professional womens groups such as NOW and others are nowhere to be seen - it is amazing that women are not uniting to work together against this very grave threat we are facing. In the recorded history of civilization, I'm unaware of any other era where have enjoyed the rights that we have been granted only since 1920 when we were given the vote. We are not talking about a set-back for women if Islam should prevail, but a throw back to the stone age where we become chattel to be sold and traded.

All of the above, too true.

Leftism celebrates weakness and "victimhood" as the ultimate mark of being a chic hero.

The mainstream "council of churches" Protestant denominations have bought into something called "liberation theology" which is nothing more than the wearing of a hair shirt combined with pouty, envy-driven soft-core Marxism hiding behind a Bible.

The infotainment and education industries are involved in an all-out war against Christianity and fawning propaganda for a Euro-style secular evangelist society here to replace the traditional American one.

And the comment about Jewish folks is accurate too, a lot of Jews (mercifully not all) of older (40+) generations refuse to grow beyond the idea that every white guy who goes to church every Sunday, hunts, and drives a red pickup is the greatest threat to their existence. They've built their entire worldview around this and will NEVER give it up no matter how much evidence is presented to the otherwise - they're comfortable with, even addicted to, this notion, it defines their existence, and it would be too much intellectual work to rethink their POV.

The young Hispanics wanting to join radical Islam is more a function of dispirited youth than anything else. Blacks and whites do this too. In a modern society where devout Judaism and Christianity are denigrated by the industries (infotainment and education) and by the classes who should be using their bully pulpit to trumpet our civilization's spiritual heritage, it's easily understood how some young folks going through that awkward soul-searching phase of adolescence could be led astray thusly.

#8  This defeatist nonsense is without foundation in the U. S. Europe may be going dhimmi, but not the U. S. Sure some Americans will go muzzie. Some went scientologist and some hari krishna. But it didn't stop the great American capitalist machine. And the muzzies won't either. Now, in the rest of the world, where their intimidation and fear tactics will work, there may be problems. And things will look ugly for some time. But ultimately they will overreach and be squashed. The problem is that the longer we wait, the uglier the squashing will be; but that we will be the squasher and not the squashee is unquestionable.

#9  I'm confident that many of the macho meathead Hispanic cholos will find Islam's cult of male privilege rather appealing. Hispanic women need to be clued in on what awaits them should Islam take control. I doubt that it could make any inroads against their combined power.

#10  no more euro - bravo! I completely agree with what you wrote to the point that I it was like reading my own thoughts.

Nimble, I hope that you are right and that we can get it together in time so that we can avoid the bloodshed. Because it will affect us all if we wait too long.

And Zenster - that's true. In fact I'm sure many men will like the idea of being able to own wives. At one time that was the stuff that jokes were made of - but as I said in another post, it's been that way for most of history. Women need to wake up and smell the grave threat this is presenting us.

#11  Nimble, I hope that you are right and that we can get it together in time so that we can avoid the bloodshed.

I've been misunderstood. There will be bloodshed. The question is whether the squashing involves deaths in eight digits or nine.

While this may be true of celebrity feminists and leadership of feminist organizations, it is not true of individuals. Well before the attacks on the WTC and the Pentagon, I worked with individual feminists to educate friends and family on the crimes the Taliban were committing against women and try to get governmental action on those crimes. Some of us are very committed to making sure the rights women gained in the 20th century are not lost.

As far as Hispanic women go, some may not put up enough of a fight over the anti-female cultural battles in their own homes-spousal battery and extra-marital affairs included-but you can be sure that the complete denial of their humanhood under Islam will be more effective in "activating" them. They won't roll over.
Posted by: Jules || 09/28/2006 8:43 Comments || Top||

#13  I'm not so sure about the docility of Hispanic women as some of the posters here. I've met more than a few who could very easily put any vato in his place if he dared get outta line.

#14  Anon's comments are right on target. Women are the bigtime losers under islamo domination. Women can easily destroy this bassackwards cult. Why don't they ? What in the hell are they doing ? You don't hear any women speaking out. Only a few like Fallaci semm to have the faintest of clues. They should be screaming from the rooftops about deporting all Muzzies from the US now, while something can be done.

#15  Why do you think the first target of the Taliban when they return to Afghanistan are the girls' schools? That's THE answer. The fall in birth rates in a nation is also most positively corellated to years of education the women receive.
