Six Captured Policemen Released After 3 Months
[Tolo News] Six Afghan coppers who were captured by Taliban bandidos holy warriors three months ago in north-eastern Badakhshan province have been released thanks to the efforts of tribal elders, local officials said on Saturday.

The coppers were captured during festivities with the Taliban in Warduj district of the province, a member of the provincial council and the provincial National Directorate of Security
...the Afghan national intel agency...
‎ (NDS) department, acting governor, Shah Waliullah Adib said.

"The efforts (of tribal elders) continued over the past three months and the six coppers were released without any demands (being made)," he said.

The coppers had been based in the northern Takhar province and three months ago were sent to Warduj as reinforcements to help retake the district which had fallen to the Taliban, said officials.

Pakistan's Military Encouraging Haqqani to Gain Ground in South-East
[Tolo News] An Afghan military commander said on Saturday that Pakistain's military is encouraging the Haqqani Network to take control of large swathes of the south-eastern parts of Afghanistan.

Gen. Mohammad Sharif Yaftali, commander of 203rd Thunder Military Corps in south-eastern Afghanistan, said that Pakistain's military is trying to get the Haqqani Network to take power in Afghanistan in order for them to "implement their plans in the country".

One example is that of south-eastern Paktia province, which shares about 573 km of border with Pakistain. Paktia is currently caught up in a large scale battle against bully boys.

"More than 50 percent of threats are in the eastern zone because they share a border with Pakistain and there are three shuras [councils] of holy warriors in Pakistain which make their plans there and implement them here," Yaftali said.

The Taliban gunnies have increased their activities in these border areas considerably this year -- areas that were previously peaceful.

"They are planning to settle the Haqqani network in a big area in a bid to find bigger privileges in the peace talks," he said.

The military forces, currently battling gunnies in Paktia, have assured the public that they will defend the country with everything they have in a bid to maintain security.

"Afghanistan's youth are still here. I am the only son of my mother. I am ready to sacrifice myself to defend and save my homeland," said one soldier.

Uganda announces air force deployment in Somalia
The Ugandan air force says it is going to deploy fighter jets in Somalia to help the war-torn country battle al-Shabab militants.
The Ugandan military is no great shakes, and its air force is shabby. A few MiG-21s, Su-30s, and training aircraft, a few helicopters, and some serious problems staying consistently in the air.
A spokesperson for Uganda’s air force said Friday that the deployment comes as part of the African Union (AU) mission’s operations in Somalia to retake more areas from the militants.

“The AU has been negotiating with us on the deployment of our military aircrafts and assets in Somalia. We have agreed on the modalities and we shall deploy them soon,” Maj. Kiconco Tabaro told Chinese news agency Xinhua, adding that the mission would also ease troops mobility and help the evacuation of medical staff and casualties.

“As you know our troops are too far from each other in Somalia. Our line of communication and movement has been difficult. These assets are necessary and will ease our personnel mobility, logistics, medical and causality evacuation,” Tabaro said.

Another military spokesman said a heightened wave of attacks by al-Shabab militants against the military forces and civilian population in Somalia has made Uganda’s help urgently needed.

“We have reached a point of no return. We have been lacking the needed air support in the fight against the al-Shabab militants in Somalia,” Lt. Col. Paddy Ankunda said, adding, “We are committed to liberating our Somali people.”

In a recent meeting in the Ugandan capital, Kampala, AU officials announced that they were negotiating with Uganda to have its few shabby helicopters deployed in Somalia.

Uganda had prior plans to deploy military assets in Somalia, although they faced a setback in 2012 when a convoy of helicopters that had been sent to Somalia crashed in Kenya, killing seven crew members.

Kampala also received two Cessna 208B aircraft from the United States in March, allegedly as an appreciation for its counterterrorism and security efforts in Somalia.

Uganda is also the biggest contributor of ground forces to the AU mission in Somalia, and troops of the Uganda People’s Defense Force (UPDF) have been stationed there since 2007.

Somalia PM appeals for int’l assistance for Yemeni refugees
GARDO, Somalia -- Federal Government of Somalia’s Prime Minister Omar Abdirashid Ali Sharmarke has appealed for international aid for thousands of refugees in Puntland on Saturday, Garowe Online reports.
Now you know how it feels...
Speaking to reporters at East Africa University campus in Gardo which temporarily hosts over 400 Yemeni families, Prime Minister Sharmarke expressed concerns about the plight of Yemenis fleeing from the civil war.

Sharmarke said, his government will dispatch members of National Council for Refugees to assess the situation and pinpoint the priorities for those displaced in the conflict.

“Somalia and Yemen are close and brotherly nations, henceforth May Allah quell the civil war in their country,” said Somalia Prime Minister.” We will send National Committee on Refugees members to assess the condition very soon, and I call on international aid agencies to help these people”.

Somalia’s northeastern state of Puntland has been a destination for Yemenis coming ashore since the start of Arab coalition bombings. Somalis caught in the fighting between UN-backed government and Shiite militias have also been coming back to the Gulf of Aden port city of Bossaso.

Tight security as Westgate reopens
[Standard Digital (Kenya)] Shoppers who turned up to witness the rebirth of Westgate Shopping Mall were treated to a rare security screening yesterday. They were subjected to a three-point security check-up, which interestingly, was overseen by Israeli officers, the Kenya Police and the Kenya Defence Force with the dreaded K9 police dogs.

The reopening comes just a few days ahead of US President Barack Obama’s historic visit to Kenya. Obama has said he would use the platform presented to him (when he visits Kenya) to support for the region’s war on terror.

State-of-the-art technology was also in play at the security check, where the use of security cameras, radar detectors, metal detectors and vehicle beam lights was witnessed. Visitors were monitored at a control room at the entrance. Motorists had to switch off their engines to avoid electrical interference with the systems.

Hundreds of shoppers thronged the mall, which included new shops, for instance, a Samsung outlet and relocation of older shops such as Nakumatt, which is now on the first floor from ground floor.

Ali Aboud, a security expert, expressed joy with the new look, saying: “It looks more modernised. I like it”.

Aboud, who was with his family, said he could not have missed the opportunity to be at the reopening.

Arabia
43 killed, 431 held as Saudi crushes Daesh network
Saudi Arabia announced on Saturday it has broken up a Daesh group-linked network and made 431 arrests, foiling new attacks on Shia mosques and a diplomatic mission.

Authorities have "managed over the past few weeks to destroy an organisation, made of a cluster of cells, which is linked to the terrorist Daesh organisation", the interior ministry announced. The alleged members were engaged in a "plot managed from areas of unrest abroad, with the aim of sowing sectarian sedition and spreading chaos", the ministry said.

The cells were involved in several attacks and plots, including deadly suicide bombings of Shia mosques in the kingdom's Eastern Province, it said.

The ministry said 37 people were killed during the arrests, including security personnel and civilians, and 120 were wounded. Six "terrorists" were also killed in the operations. It said authorities had foiled bomb attacks plotted during the holy month of Ramadan, including on a mosque used by security forces in Riyadh and other Shia mosques in the Eastern Province.

The group also plotted to attack a diplomatic mission, the statement said without elaborating.

Among the 431 suspects so far rounded up, mostly Saudis, were 144 people accused of supporting the network by "spreading the deviant ideology on the Internet and recruiting new members".

The ministry said 97 of those arrested were linked to a cell busted earlier and to a November attack on a Shia mosque in the town of Dalwa that killed seven people, including children. Another 190 suspects were allegedly involved in plots following bomb attacks on Shia mosques in Qatif and Dammam, as well as an attack on Saudi security forces.

Saudis Cast Net for ISIS Sympathizers
[NYTIMES] The security forces in Soddy Arabia
...a kingdom taking up the bulk of the Arabian peninsula. Its primary economic activity involves exporting oil and soaking Islamic rubes on the annual hajj pilgrimage. The country supports a large number of princes in whatcha might call princely splendor. When the oil runs out the rest of the world is going to kick sand in the Soddy national face...

They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
jihadist group, the Saudi Interior Ministry said on Saturday.

The people who were nabbed
Keep yer hands where we can see 'em, if yez please!
were linked to recent attacks inside the kingdom; they planned attacks or monitored potential targets, or used social media to spread Death Eater ideology and entice new recruits, the Interior Ministry said.

The high number of arrests highlights the profound fears inside the conservative, oil-rich kingdom that the jihadists who control territory in nearby Iraq and Syria will sow further trouble inside Saudi Arabia, as the myrmidons' leaders have vowed to do.

While Saudi Arabia's strict version of Islam shares some aspects with the one espoused by the Islamic State, the kingdom's leaders have denounced the group for its wanton violence and mobilized state holy mans to condemn its acts. The Saudi Air Force has also joined an American-led coalition bombing Islamic State targets in Iraq and Syria.

But the jihadists have also found some support in parts of Saudi society, and a few thousand Saudi citizens have traveled to Iraq and Syria to join the group. The government also makes little effort to reign in hard-line Sunni holy mans who brand Shiites as heretics, as does the Islamic State.
Ynet adds:
Saudi Arabia has locked away
Drop the gat, Rocky, or you're a dead 'un!
431 people suspected of belonging to Islamic State cells, and thwarted attacks on mosques, security forces and a diplomatic mission, the interior ministry said on Saturday.

"The number tossed in the calaboose

to date is 431, most of them citizens, in addition to participants from other nationalities ... six successive suicide operations which targeted mosques in the Eastern province on every Friday timed with liquidations of coppers were thwarted," the statement posted on the official news agency SPA said. "Terrorist plots to target a diplomatic mission, security and government facilities in Sharurah province and the liquidation of coppers were thwarted," it said.

Indian accused to terror links sent back from China
[TIMESOFINDIA.INDIATIMES] China has allowed nine detained foreign tourists including one from India to leave for their respective countries. But it has not clarified if the criminal charges like their alleged links with a terrorist group would be dropped or continued which include allegations to be pursued.

The Indian Embassy in Beijing said in a statement on Saturday that the Indian national "was allowed to leave for India by a flight in early hours of this morning". It did not say if the Indian, Rajiv Mohan Kulshrestha, had been deported or simply allowed to go without facing any more charges.
Ummm... That's not a proper Islamic name. I was expecting an Abdullah or Mohammed, at the least an Abu.
Sources said Beijing authorities took the decision to release the detained Indian, British and South African citizens in view of an international furor caused by the incident, which could hurt China's image and the flow of tourists to the country.

They are associated with a South African charity, Gift of the Givers. The charity said in a statement that no formal charges were put to any of the 20 detainees.

The foreigners were accused of watching banned terrorism videos, distributing material related to terrorism and having links with a terror group. But a South African relative of three detained persons said they were watching a video of the 13th century warrior Genghis Khan at their hotel in Ordos city of Inner Mongolia province in China.
Ewps.
"No one in the group has been charged and it is believed the reason they were tossed in the slammer
Drop the rod and step away witcher hands up!
was because of an unfortunate misunderstanding. They watched a documentary on Genghis Khan to further their understanding of the region they were in at the time, and this may have mistakenly been deemed as 'propaganda' material.

"The group visited the Genghis Khan Mausoleum in Ordos on the day before their arrest".

Tennessee shooter was ‘upset’ by wars in Gaza, Syria
[IsraelTimes] Muhammad Abdulazeez came back from Jordan trip 'concerned' by lack of US intervention in region

Muhammad Youssuf Abdulazeez, the Kuwaiti-born US citizen who shot and killed five marines at two military sites in Chattanooga, Tennessee before being killed by police last week, was "upset" by Israel's Operation Protective Edge, according to a friend of his who was anonymously interviewed by Rooters on Saturday.

The friend showed the news agency a text message sent to him by Abdulazeez with a link to a long Islamic verse containing the words: "Whosoever shows enmity to a friend of Mine, then I have declared war against him."

The friend said at the time, only hours before the shooting, he thought nothing special of the SMS, but in retrospect wonders whether the killer was hinting at his future actions.

"Abdulazeez's friends, who asked not to be identified for fear of a backlash, said he was upset about the 2014 Israeli bombing campaign in Gazoo and the civil war in Syria," the Rooters report said. Israel and Gazoo-based terror groups fought a 50-day conflict last summer.

Abdulazeez visited Jordan in 2014, and expressed concern
...meaning the brow was mildly wrinkled, the eyebrows drawn slightly together, and a thoughtful expression assumed, not that anything was actually done or indeed that any thought was actually expended...
over the US's lack of involvement in the region.

"He expressed that he was upset about (the Middle East). But I can't imagine it drove him to this," said his friend.

Other friends of Abdulazeez said that he felt "Jordan, Qatar
...an emirate on the east coast of the Arabian Peninsula. It sits on some really productive gas and oil deposits, which produces the highest per capita income in the world. They piss it all away on religion, financing the Moslem Brotherhood and several al-Qaeda affiliates...
, Soddy Arabia

were not doing enough to help, and that they were heavily influenced by the United States" regarding the civil war in Syria.

"He had always talked about it, but I'd say his level of understanding and awareness really rose after he came back" from his trip to Jordan said one of his friends.

The killer was struggling also with substance abuse, both on a personal health level and on how to reconcile these habits with his Moslem faith. His friends recalled that two or three years ago, he went to rehabilitation therapy.

"He used [alcohol and marijuana] to de-stress, when things were difficult at home, or whatever," his friend who received the text message told Rooters, adding that Abdulazeez was also upset by tensions with his Paleostinian parents, who nearly got divorced in 2009, according to court records.

Voice samples of Lakhvi in the limelight
[DAWN] The voice samples of Ziaur Rehman Lakhvi are in the limelight once again since the Ufa meeting but it's an issue that the FIA has been following for the past few years, even though the Agency now claims that they are irrelevant to the trial.

After having pursued the matter for four years, the FIA now says the voice samples cannot be used as evidence.

"Though it might be helpful in the course of investigation but the audio allegedly recorded by the Indian Intelligence cannot be used as evidence as there is no law under which the authenticity of the voice could be proved", a senior prosecutor in the Mumbai attacks case told Dawn.

He said that though the existing laws permitted the use of electronic evidence, there is no provision under which an accused can be forced to provide an audio recording of his voice which can then be matched with available samples.

This view was also echoed by prosecutor Mohammad Azhar Chaudhry who in a telephonic interview to some Indian channels after the Ufa meeting categorically stated that "the issue of voice sample is over now."

Prime minister's adviser on national security and foreign affairs after the Ufa meeting has reportedly said that Pakistain needs more information and evidence to conclude the (Mumbai) trial.

These statements were made because the Indian side brought up the Lakhvi trial in Ufa, including the issue of matching the voice samples.

However,
a person who gets all wrapped up in himself makes a mighty small package...
the FIA was counting on these voice samples a mere four years ago.

In 2011, the Agency went to the IHC to obtain the voice samples of Lakhvi and his co-accused Abdul Wajid, Mazhar Iqbal, Hammad Amin Sadiq, Shahid Jamil, Jamil Ahmed and Younas Anjum currently confined in Adiala Jail. The petition is still pending in the IHC.

The IHC division bench on September 12, 2012 dismissed the petition for "non prosecution" -- in other words, the FIA was not pursuing this matter.

However,
a person who gets all wrapped up in himself makes a mighty small package...
after the dismissal the FIA woke up again and its prosecutor filed a revised petition before the court once again asking the court to order the suspects to provide their voice samples.

Karachi police chief among top officials removed in bureaucracy shake-up
[DAWN] In a bid to purge the bureaucracy of officials not free from the taint of corruption, Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah on Friday shook up the administrative machinery by initiating transfers and postings of some top and senior officials.

The major changes have been made before the targeted operation against criminals enters its second phase after Eidul Fitr under a decision of the last meeting of the provincial apex committee. In its July 12 meeting, the committee had decided to step up the pace of operation in the light of the extended powers of the Rangers for one month with the condition that it would be approved by the Sindh Assembly.

The reshuffle in the bureaucracy involves high officials, including Karachi police chief Ghulam Qadir Thebo, Sindh Building Control Authority Director General Manzoor Qadir, Karachi Municipal Corporation chief Saqib Soomro and Fisheries Cooperative Society Chairman Nisar Morai and Senior Member of the Board of of Revenue Shazer Shamoon — some of whom have either fled the country or gone into hiding before being caught by the Rangers.

The decision to remove the officials from their posts and shake up the administration was taken in the Pakistan Peoples Party high command meeting held in Dubai the other day in the presence of PPP chairman Bilwal Bhutto-Zardari and co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari.

VoIP use by Safoora carnage suspects causes Sindh to invest in counter-strategy
[DAWN] KARACHI: A police investigation report submitted to the Sindh home department said that Safoora bus carnage suspects were aware about the 'hazards' of mobile phones as they used the voice-over internet protocol (VoIP), causing the government to prepare itself for such challenges which might increase in future, it emerged on Friday.

"The accused persons did not use any mobile SIM for their terrorist activities, they used Talkray, a VoIP software for communication," said the June 30 report prepared by the police chief and lately submitted to the competent authority.

When officials want the government to invest more in countering the challenges they faced with the emergence of ever-increasing VoIP apps, it is very hard for the authorities to deal with it for both financial and technological deficiencies.

The Sindh government's proposal to ban internet chat and telephony apps including Skype, WhatsApp, Tango and Viber in 2013 had invited huge criticism from both friends and foes. It was asked to increase its capacity to counter VoIP-related dangers rather than imposing the ban on the technologies.
If you ban Skype then only terrorists will have Skype.
At least 47 people were killed and 13 others maimed near Safoora Chowk on May 13 when gunnies fired at the Shia Ismaili community members travelling in a bus.

In its report, the police claimed that it solved the case within a week and later tossed in the calaboose
Youse'll never take me alive coppers!... [BANG!]... Ow!... I quit!
five 'terrorists' involved in the 'barbaric incident'. The report named them Saad Aziz, Tahir Hussain Minhas, Mohammad Azhar Ishrat, Hafiz Naasir Ahmed and Asad-ur-Rehman.

It said two Kalashnikovs (AK-47 assault rifles) and eight pistols (9mm) with silencers, including the weapons used in the crime, were seized.

The police Sherlocks also impounded the vehicle used in the 'terrorist act' and seized their blood-stained clothes. Also, seven laptops containing 'jihadi' literature were seized during a raid, said the report.

Involved in 37 cases

It stated that "forces of Evil confessed to their involvement in 37 cases of terrorism in Bloody Karachi
...formerly the capital of Pakistain, now merely its most important port and financial center. It is among the largest cities in the world, with a population of 18 million, most of whom hate each other and many of whom are armed and dangerous...
and Hyderabad" during their interrogation by a joint investigation team (JIT) comprising members of 'all law-enforcement agencies and intelligence agencies.

It listed all those cases in which they were involved including the April gun attack on Debra Lobo, a US national and vice principal of the Jinnah Medical and Dental College, the murder of rights and culture activist Sabeen Mehmud, attack on Brig Basit of Pakistain Rangers, several attacks on coppers and Rangers, bank robberies in Hyderabad and Karachi, kaboom at a Bohra Masjid in the Arambagh area, cracker attack on a Beaconhouse School System branch in North Nazimabad, the murder of Bohra community's Bashir Saifuddin and several other cases of murder, kidnapping and bad boy attacks.

Giving incriminating evidence available against the suspects, the report said weapons used in the offence were seized and were matched with the empties found at the place of incident by forensic experts. Four cycle of violences and two cars used in the attack have been impounded, the report said.

It added that the weapons and spent bullet casings also matched in 11 other attacks in Karachi.

The report said the printing pattern of literature seized from the possession of the suspects was matching with pamphlets left at the scene of the crime of the Safoora Goth attack, attack on Dr Lobo and two grenade attacks on private schools.

Apart from using VoIP instead of mobile phones, the suspects used code names and everything that could save them from emerging on the radar of intelligence agencies, the police report said. "All forces of Evil are highly educated with good financial background and are proficient in using social media network and internet technology," it stated.

Hamas Rejects Prisoner Swap Deal: Israel Should Free Rearrested Inmates
[ALMANAR.LB] The Prime Minister of Hamas, always the voice of sweet reason, government, Ismail Haniyeh
...became Prime Minister after the legislative elections of 2006 which Hamas won. President Mahmoud Abbas dismissed Haniyeh from office on 14 June 2007 at the height of the Fatah-Hamas festivities, but Haniyeh did not acknowledge the decree and continues as the PM of Gazoo while Abbas maintains a separate PM in the West Bank...
has dismissed the possibility of new negotiations over prisoner swap with the Zionist entity, unless Tel Aviv releases dozens of Paleostinian prisoners it has rejugged
Drop the gat, Rocky, or you're a dead 'un!
after a previous exchange deal.

During a speech marking the Eid al-Fitr holiday, Haniyeh said that Israel has rearrested at least 54 inmates freed in exchange for Israeli soldier Gilad Shalit.

"We have told all the mediators who have mobilized to discuss a new exchange that there won't be any negotiations before the release of all those Israel detained from among the Shalit deal group."

"There will be no talks without their unconditional release," Haniyeh added.

The comments came after Israel claimed earlier this month that two Israelis are being held in Gazoo Strip. But Hamas has not reacted to these allegations.

Israeli authorities claimed that Avraham Mengistu, an Æthiopian Israeli, along with another one are being held in the enclave.

Mengistu is said to have disappeared after he "independently" entered Gazoo on September 7, 2014, two weeks after the end of latest Israeli war on Gazoo last summer.

The second man, whose name has not been released, is a Bedouin Arab. Israeli officials have not specified how long he has been in Gazoo or how he got there.

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
Nuclear deal has companies eyeing Iranian opportunities anew
It's going to be extrememly hard to put President Obama's genie back in the bottle. Key bits from the article:
[Rudaw] The nuclear deal is done. Now it's time to talk business.

While it will likely be months before sanctions on Iran ease, business and politicians are wasting no time in trying to tap into a large and what they hope will be a lucrative Iranian market.

Germany is dispatching a large trade delegation to Tehran on Sunday. Spain has a similar trip planned, and La Belle France's top diplomat is eyeing a visit too. Ads for European cars and luxury goods are starting to reappear in Tehran. Airlines in Dubai are fast adding new Iran routes to meet growing demand.

American firms, though, have to be much more cautious. Deal or no deal, US sanctions not related to the nuclear program will still be in place and bar most American companies from doing business with Iran.

That means they stand to lose out to European and Asian companies -- some that still have business contacts in the country before sanctions were tightened in recent years.

"It's easier to say who is at a disadvantage. And that will be US firms," said Torbjorn Soltvedt, principal Mideast analyst at risk advisory company Verisk Maplecroft.

On paper, Iran holds plenty of promise. Two and a half times the size of Texas, it is home to some 80 million people, sits atop the world's fourth-largest oil reserves and the second-biggest stores of natural gas, and has well-established manufacturing and agricultural industries contributing to a $400 billion economy.

London-based Capital Economics estimates the economy could surge ahead by 6-8 percent annually over the next several years as sanctions ease.

"Everything is in place for economic growth," said Dominic Bokor-Ingram, portfolio adviser at British asset management firm Charlemagne Capital. His company earlier this year announced a plan to launch Iranian investment funds in partnership with an Iranian company.

"Iran has infrastructure, it has the institutions, it has the education," he added. "It has a lot of highly educated people who will go back to Iran if sanctions are lifted."

Tapping the market won't be easy.

The elite Revolutionary Guard is deeply involved in the economy and corruption is such a problem that President Hassan Rouhani lamented late last year that once-secret bribes are now being handed out openly. Iran ranks only 130 out of 189 economies on the World Bank's ease-of-doing-business list.

Assuming the deal goes ahead as planned it will still take at least several months until nuclear-related sanctions are lifted. And those sanctions can quickly be slapped back on if Iran fails to live up to its end of the bargain.

That means many multinationals are unlikely to commit to big investments in the immediate future, though the staggered sanctions relief also gives companies time to gear up their operations, analysts say.

The oil industry is one area where Iran could use outside investment. Fitch Ratings expects it will take years for Iran to get back to the roughly 2.5 million barrels a day it was exporting before 2012, because investment in the sector has been limited under sanctions.

#2  As said or inferred before, iff the OWG Globies desire for Iran to be a "US-STYLE", "US-PAR" SUPERPOWER = CO-SUPERPOWER, IRAN NEEDS A MODERN EFFEC MILITARY-INDUSTRIAL COMPLEX TO MATCH HER STATUS.

Which Iran doth notteth haveth = does not have right now.

* FYI MANILA BULLETIN > HOLLANDE CALLS FOR STRONGER EUROZONE [Supra-National Govt. = Protocols + Mechanisms, etc.] HEADED BY "VANGUARD" NATIONS.

OWG GLOBAL FEDERAL UNION = UNION(S), CO-SUPERPOWER = CO-SUPERPOWER(S)???

* IIRC BLOOMBERG > NUCLEAR DEAL MEANS IRAN CAN FINALLY REPLACE SOME OF ITS MUSEUM-VINTAGE AIRCRAFT [Civilian Airliners].

ARTIC = Pretty much applies to everything in Iran's Armed Forces + Other.

D *** NG IT, DON'T FORCE ME TO TELL DEDICATED ANTI-SOVIET COLD WARRIOR POTUS RICHARD NIXON TO CRUSH A COOKIE JUST BECAUSE HE CAN!

Iran Leader Says Policy on 'Arrogant' U.S. Won't Change
[AnNahar] Iran's supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei said Saturday that a landmark nuclear deal with world powers would not affect the country's avowed stance against an "arrogant" United States government.

The remarks were greeted by chants of "Death to America" from the crowd at a ceremony in Tehran to mark the end of the Moslem fasting month of Ramadan.

While such hardline rhetoric is familiar -- the US and Iran severed diplomatic ties the year after the Islamic revolution of 1979 -- the supreme leader's words highlighted the sharp differences between Iran and the West over the multiple conflicts gripping the Middle East despite Tuesday's historic nuclear deal.

Iran has offered India bigger role in strategic port, says envoy
[DAWN] Iranian President Hassan Rouhani has asked India to invest in infrastructure projects worth $8 billion, including an expanded role in developing a strategic port that will open up access to Central Asia, Iran's envoy to New Delhi said on Friday.

The port of Chabahar in southeast Iran is central to India's efforts to circumvent arch-rival Pakistain and open up a route to landlocked Afghanistan where it has developed close security ties and economic interests.

Mr Rouhani suggested the larger role for India during a meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the sidelines of a summit in Russia days before the historic nuclear deal between Iran and world powers, Iran's ambassador to India said in an interview.
