Reporter stopped by TSA agent who didn't know District of Columbia is in US
[WFTV] It's something most students learn in elementary school -- the United States is made up of 50 states and the District of Columbia. But Channel 9's Justin Gray found out it's a lesson that an Orlando agent with the Transportation Safety Administration seems to have missed.

Gray, who lives in Washington, D.C., was flying out of Orlando International Airport when a TSA agent said Gray's District of Columbia driver's license wasn't a valid form of identification. Gray said his license is legal and up-to-date, but the TSA agent didn't seem to know what the District of Columbia was when Gray arrived at the security checkpoint over the weekend.

When Gray handed the man his driver's license the agent demanded to see Gray's passport. Gray told the agent he wasn't carrying his passport and asked why he needed it.

The agent said he didn't recognize the license.

Gray said he asked the agent if he knew what the District of Columbia is, and after a brief conversation Gray realized the man did not know.

Gray was able to get through security and then stopped to complain to a TSA supervisor.

#7  Wait, the TSA agent is well on his way for a new career:

There once was a TSA Agent from Orlando,
Whose knowledge grew lesser and lesser,
It at last grew so small
He knew nothing at all,
And now he's a college professor.

As of the Great Invasion and decrees of the judiciary aristocracy, no state drivers license is a valid form of identification for showing anything but that you've been to the MVD.

'Jinn-er Badshah' duping people during Ramadan
[Dhaka Tribune] Frauds posing as "Jinn-er Badshah" or the king of supernatural beings have been busy throughout Ramadan exploiting the religious sentiments of Moslems by duping them and demanding money with late-night phone calls.

Different gangs of such swindlers — mostly based in Gaibandha — trick people by offering them fake information about alleged valuable assets in exchange for money; while reluctance to pay money to the "Jinn-er Badshah" often ended in threats and intimidations over phone.

Seeking anonymity, a person who recently became the target of such a scam told the Dhaka Tribune that someone claiming to be "Jinn-er Badshah" called his mobile phone at 2:30am on July 10.

China-Japan-Koreas
Secret Path Revealed for Chinese to Send Billions Overseas
For years, wealthy Chinese have been transferring billions worth of their money overseas, snapping up pricey real estate in markets including New York, Sydney and Vancouver despite their country's currency restrictions.

Now, one way they could be doing it is clearer. Last week, when China Central Television leveled money-laundering allegations against Bank of China Ltd., the state-run broadcaster's report prompted the revelation of a previously unannounced government program that enables individuals to transfer their yuan and convert it into dollars or other currencies overseas.

The issue came to light after CCTV said Bank of China helped customers transfer unlimited amounts of yuan abroad through a product called Youhuitong, which means "superior foreign-exchange channel."

The Bank of China said in a July 9 statement this doesn't constitute money-laundering. Youhuitong has been suspended while the PBOC and its anti-money laundering bureau request records of all previous transactions, according to a person familiar with the product, who asked not to be identified because he wasn't authorized to speak publicly.

Chinese buyers, including people from Hong Kong and Taiwan, spent $22 billion on U.S. homes in the year through March, up 72 percent from the same period in 2013 and more than any other nationality, the National Association of Realtors said in its annual report on foreign home purchases.

China needed to improve its oversight of capital flows after $2.7 trillion in unexplained funds moved overseas in the decade prior to 2012, Anthony Neoh, a former government adviser who helped the country open up to foreign money managers, said last year, citing data from Integrity International. Those funds fueled property bubbles in cities such as Hong Kong instead of being invested in domestic assets, he said.

11 killed in Ukraine army airstrike
[Iran Press TV] At least eleven people have been killed in a Ukrainian army Arclight airstrike on a residential building in the eastern Donetsk region.

The air raid destroyed an apartment block in eastern Ukrainian city of Snizhne on Tuesday.

Regional officials say that eight people were also injured and a dozen buildings were destroyed during the attack.

A child and an elderly couple were among the casualties.

The attack is the latest in Ukraine's push to eliminate pro-Russian protesters from its restive eastern regions.

On Sunday, an artillery shell fired from Ukraine hit a residential area in Russia's Rostov region, killing one person and injuring two others.

The Russian Rostov region has recently seen over a dozen shells hitting the area, which borders Ukraine's eastern Lugansk region, where Ukrainian troops are fighting pro-Russian forces.

European Union
...the successor to the Holy Roman Empire, only without the Hapsburgs and the nifty uniforms and the dancing...
leaders are set to gather in Brussels on Wednesday to discuss the worsening situation in eastern Ukraine.

Ukraine's mainly Russian-speaking parts in the east have witnessed deadly festivities between pro-Russia protesters and the Ukrainian army since mid-April.

Kiev Says Four Members of Downed Plane Crew Rescued
[An Nahar] The Ukrainian military said Tuesday it had rescued four crew members of a transport plane shot down over rebel territory, while two more were being held by forces of Evil and another two still missing.

"Four of the eight crew members of the AN-26 plane were found and brought to a safe area after a search-and-rescue mission," the Ukrainian military said in a statement after Monday's incident.

Operations were under way to free two crew members held by separatist fighters and to find out what had happened to another two servicemen on board.

The downing of the plane in the eastern Lugansk region saw tensions spiral between Kiev and Moscow after Ukraine said the missile that hit the plane "likely" came from Russia.

An AFP team found the wreckage of the plane strewn across a field close to the Russian border and saw what looked like charred human remains among the debris.

Witnesses said they had seen a number of parachutes in the sky after the plane appeared to be hit by a missile.

A children's hospital that is just a signboard
[DAWN] In the last nine years, the government installed only a signboard inscribed with a slogan "Thank you Uncle Shahbaz! Someone thought of a hospital for us" at a piece of land earmarked for 600-bed Children's Hospital.
That'd be Shahbaz Sharif, natch.
The hospital for Faisalabad was announced in 2005, however, nothing except the barren land can be seen there. On the other hand, ratio of child mortality is increasing in the district with every passing day.

Asif invokes God's help over power crisis
[DAWN] Conceding that the country had been in grip of the worst-ever electricity crisis over the past three days, Water and Power Minister Khawaja Mohammad Asif apologised to the nation on Monday and expressed the hope that the God Almighty would bestow some relief in about two days and there would be a drop in temperatures.

"The last three days were the most difficult days in terms of power supply," he said at a news conference, because of a reduction in power generation by about 1,500MW. With the supply of 15,000MW and demand at 19,000 to 20,000MW, there is a gap of 6,000 to 7,000MW.

Khawaja Asif said Punjab had suffered the most because five distribution companies operating in the province have struggled to ease the crisis and failed to implement federal government's instructions to reduce supply. The situation had led to forced loadshedding in some areas, including Islamabad, he added.

India court convicts teenagers over Mumbai gang-rapes
[TRIBUNE.PK] A Mumbai court convicted two teenage boys Tuesday over separate gang-rapes that shocked the city in a verdict that came days after an Indian minister said juvenile suspects should be treated as adults in rape cases.

Two 17-year-olds were found guilty — one over the gang-rape of a photographer and another over the gang-rape of a telephone operator in the same abandoned mill compound in the city last year, public prosecutor Ujjwal Nikam told AFP.

He said the pair, who cannot be named for legal reasons, would be sent to a reform institution in Maharashtra state, of which Mumbai is the capital, for three years.

"They should keep good behaviour and vocational guidance will be given to them," Nikam added.

Three men were in April ordered to hang for their involvement in both the gang-rape cases, the first death sentences to be handed down for multiple sex attacks since the law was toughened last year.

Maneka Gandhi, Minister for Women and Child Development in Narendra Modi's new right-wing government, said on Sunday that juveniles accused of rape should be treated on a par with adults.

"For premeditated murder, rape, if we bring them into the purview of the adult world, then it will scare them," she told news hounds in the southern city of Chennai.

#1  What is the ratio between young males and available young women in India. Is there a large disparity?

I am wondering if there is a real and large shortage of available marriageable young women? Say forty young men to one young woman.... social reasons could be at work. No marriages and legitimate ways a young man could get a wife or even have an opportunity to be around young women.

Big gaps between needs and opportunities? A large class of young men simply not in the equation for a married life?

Moslems have such strange and basically obtuse problems with only a portion of the male population having an advantage with the female availability. Hindu may have their own weird social stupidities as well. It must be a lot of fun to be poor and condemned to no access to young women on a general basis. And a large number of you who will never marry. What is the demographic for male/female proportions in the population?
Gang rape? Numbers game.

Hamas Got Rich As Gaza Was Plunged Into Poverty
[Ynet] With multi-million-dollar land deals, luxury villas and black market fuel from Egypt, Gazoo's rulers made billions while the rest of the population struggled with 38-percent poverty and 40-percent unemployment.

While the fighting is only expected to worsen the distress of the residents of Gazoo, the Strip's economic outlook for the Strip was never good. The unemployment rate in Gazoo stood at approximately 40% before the latest conflict, with a similar proportion being classed as living under the poverty line.

But while most of the Gazoo population tries to deal with the difficulties of daily life, it seems that one sector at least has had few worries about their livelihoods - Hamas, always the voice of sweet reason, leaders and their associates.

Multi-million-dollar deal
Someone who has benefitted financially is the former Hamas prime minister in Gazoo, Ismail Haniyeh
...became Prime Minister after the legislative elections of 2006 which Hamas won. President Mahmoud Abbas dismissed Haniyeh from office on 14 June 2007 at the height of the Fatah-Hamas festivities, but Haniyeh did not acknowledge the decree and continues as the PM of Gazoo while Abbas maintains a separate PM in the West Bank...
. Before 2006 and Hamas' shocking electoral win and subsequent dominance of the Paleostinian government, 51-year-old Haniyeh was not considered a senior figure in Hamas in the Gazoo Strip. But according to reports in the past few years, Haniyeh's new-found senior status has allowed him to become a millionaire. This is an unusual feat, given that he was born to a refugee family in the al-Shati refugee camp in northern Gazoo.

In 2010, Egyptian magazine Rose al-Yusuf reported that Haniyeh paid for $4 million for a 2,500msq parcel of land area in Rimal, a tony beachfront neighborhood of Gazoo City. To avoid embarrassment, the land was registered in the name of the husband of Haniyeh's daughter. Since then, there have been reports that Haniyeh has purchased several homes in the Gazoo Strip, registered in the names of his children - no hardship, as he has 13 of them.

At least with regards to his eldest son, it seems that the apple does not fall far from the tree, given his arrest on the Egyptian side of the Rafah border crossing with millions of dollars in cash in possession, which he intended to take into Gazoo.

Subsidized fuel sold for profit
According to sources in Gazoo, Haniyeh's wealth, like others high up in Hamas, came primarily from the flourishing tunnel industry. Senior Hamas figures, Haniyeh included, would levy 20 percent taxation on all of the trade passing through the tunnels.

Hamas's heyday came after the overthrow of former Egyptian president Hosni Mubarak
...The former President-for-Life of Egypt, dumped by popular demand in early 2011...
, as its parent organization the Moslem Brüderbund was growing in popularity in Egypt.

In those days, Hamas leaders and their associates were not afraid to show off their ostentatious wealth. Gazoo's market for luxury villas costing at least a million dollars was booming, most purchased by people associated with the establishment of Hamas. A Gazook familiar with the real estate market summed it up at the time with a quip about a Hamas crony who had recently acquired a luxury villa: "Two years ago, he couldn't afford a packet of cigarettes."

At the same time, Khairat a-Shater, a senior member of the Moslem Brüderbund in Egypt who headed his own business empire, made sure to personally transfer tens of millions in cash to senior administration officials in Gazoo as well as to commanders from the Hamas military wing.

There were senior Hamas members who preferred that the money be kept in a safer place than the Gazoo Strip, and invested it in various Egyptian assets, often through business partnerships with Moslem Brüderbund officials. In some cases, the man conducting the deals on behalf of Hamas officials, who ensured that they received their dividends in cash, was Ayman Taha, a Hamas founder once considered one of its key spokesmen. In 2011, Taha himself paid $700,000 for a luxury three-floor villa in the central Gazoo Strip; a year ago, he was charged with being an agent for Egypt.

The Egyptian street has become inflamed with anger directed against Hamas over the last three years, partly due to what appears to be its financial gains at the expense of the Egyptian people. The tunnels in Rafah, the town straddling the Gazoo-Egypt border, for example, saw a flourishing fuel-smuggling industry from Sinai. The fuel subsidized by the Egyptian government was entering Gazoo at a low price, but being sold for eight times that. Those who made the greatest profits from the sale of the fuel were Hamas members, even as Egypt often reported shortages for its own people.

Hamas, says Professor Ahmed Karima of Al-Azhar University in Egypt, has long become a movement of millionaires. According to Karima, the organization can count no less than 1,200 millionaires among its members. He did not, however, specify the source of this information.

Mashal's mall
It was not only Hamas members in Gazoo who became rich. It appears that political leader Khaled Mashal is another member of the organization who used Hamas funds to his own ends. In 2012, a Jordanian website reported that Mashal had control of a massive $2.6 billion, in large part deposited in Qatari and Egyptian banks. This is likely Hamas' accumulated assets from years through donations, as well as its investments in various projects in the Arab and Mohammedan world. It is also known that, among other things, Hamas has invested in real estate projects in Soddy Arabia
...a kingdom taking up the bulk of the Arabian peninsula. Its primary economic activity involves exporting oil and soaking Islamic rubes on the annual hajj pilgrimage. The country supports a large number of princes in whatcha might call princely splendor. When the oil runs out the rest of the world is going to kick sand in the Soddy national face...
, Syria and Dubai. And, according to reports, Mashal did not always separate Hamas money and his own.

Hamas' expulsion from Syria was a severe financial blow for the movement. In 2011, before the start of the Syrian conflict, Hamas's assets in the country had reached a value of $550 million. Apart from its real estate holdings, Hamas invested in various commercial companies, including a cargo company registered to a Syrian businessman close to Moussa Abu Marzook, Mashal's deputy.

As with other areas, in its financial dealings Hamas leaders keep their cards close to their chest and maintain a high level of secrecy. Investments are made through front companies, using family and associates. Companies linked to Mashal in Qatar are registered to his wife and daughter.

Once he was forced to close his office in Damascus (after falling out with the Assad regime over its oppressive response to the conflict), Mashal declared that his place was in Qatar. There, he claimed that $12 million he had stored in his safe in his Damascus office had been lost. Not many accepted this story, and to this day believe that Mashal kept the money, transferring it to his own personal accounts.

Reliable sources claim that a project by the Fadil real estate firm in Qatar is linked to Mashal, his son and his son's wife. The prestigious project in Doha, the Qatari capital, includes the construction of four towers of more than 27,000 square meters, including office and commercial space attached to a mall with an area of 10,000 square meters. The company has never disclosed the source of its funding.

According to a World Bank report released in November of last year, the Gazoo Strip ranks third in the Arab region in terms of poverty, ranking above only Sudan and Yemen. The report stated that the poverty rate in Gazoo stands at 38 percent. Furthermore, of the 144 countries included in the report, Gazoo was the 44th poorest, with most of the countries with a higher poverty rate being located in Africa.
