-Lurid Crime Tales-
Harry Reid's name surfaces in Utah bribery case against two ex-attorneys general
[WASHINGTONTIMES] The court documents filed by Mr. Gill unexpectedly included detailed information about federally indicted Utah businessman Jeremy Johnson's efforts to secure a meeting with Sen. Harry Reid
... the charismatic senator-for-life from Nevada, currently majority leader ...
of [Nevada] and Sen. Orrin Hatch of Utah.

The records state Mr. Johnson approached Mr. Swallow and Mr. Shurtleff in 2010 about help on two matters — one involving online poker laws and the other involving a pending Federal Trade Commission case against his company. The requests included efforts to secure meetings with Sens. Hatch and Reid.

The court records state Mr. Swallow reached out through an intermediary to secure the meeting with Mr. Reid and informed Mr. Johnson "that the price to obtain access" to someone who could arrange the meeting "won't be cheap."

Mr. Johnson reached out to Mr. Swallow's intermediary in a Oct. 7, 2010 email with the subject line of "Senator Reid."

"I talked with John Swallow and he said you might have some connections to Reid that might be helpful to us," Mr. Johnson wrote in the email, citing his problems with the FTC.

The court records allege Mr. Johnson subsequently wired money to an account controlled by the intermediary totaling $250,000 and that the intermediary subsequently sent some money to Mr. Swallow.

The court records make no further mention of what happened to the Reid meeting or whether the money was spent in connection with that meeting.

However,
death is not the end. There remains the litigation over the estate...
Mr. Johnson has alleged after he was indicted by federal authorities that he was told the money was supposed to be spent securing Sen. Reid's help in the FTC commission.

Mr. Reid's office has long dismissed the allegations as nonsense. But Tuesday court records are the first to officially link Mr. Johnson's efforts to get a meeting with Sen. Reid to the exchange of money.

Mr. Gill, the local prosecutor in Salt Lake City, was one of two state prosecutors who told The Washington Times back in March that they had stumbled onto possible incriminating information involving Sen. Reid and that his office was using FBI agents to assist in that investigation.

Virginia Dem Moran: Hamas Rockets are 'Fairly Feckless'
[PJMEDIA] A Virginia congressman characterized the rockets being fired into Israel by Hamas, always the voice of sweet reason, as "fairly feckless," pointing to "too many" Paleostinian deaths as the problem.

"Well, Israel has the overwhelming support of the American Congress. There are a few of us who feel that, you know, a cease-fire is the only way to go, and it's in Israel's, as well as the Paleostinians' interest to have a cease-fire," Rep. Jim Moran (D-Va.) said on MSNBC last night.

"Lives are of value. And there are going to be too many innocent Paleostinians killed in this. I don't think that there are going to be many Israelis. We have helped Israel secure the Iron Dome. And really these rockets that have been fired from the Gazoo Strip, they're fairly feckless. I mean, they fall in land that is generally unoccupied, but nevertheless, they are a threat. And I suspect if Hamas could kill people with them, they certainly would," Moran said.

The Israeli Defense Forces reported this morning that a rocket fell on a house in Ashkelon.

"But Israel clearly has the capacity to kill more Gazooks and I think they will as long as rockets continue to be fired from the Gazoo Strip," Moran said. "So, a cease-fire seems to be in everyone's interest. The fact is Israel only generates more hatred, not just from Hamas, but the Arab and Moslem community throughout the world, I suspect with what's going on, with the possible exception of Egypt, perhaps."
The Egyptians seem to be just fine with the Juices whacking Hamas. I think a private, confidential poll throughout the Arab world would demonstrate little sympathy for the Paleos, whatever is said publicly...
"And certainly from the Paleostinian standpoint, they're going to continue to lose lives and many of them are going to be innocent women and kiddies," he added.

#2  Hamas is never going to improve. They are basically Nazi big nosed greasers. There is no forsee-able future for them.

The Gazoo population are rather stupid and tool losers. No one will miss them if they lose and disappear. Better to go in and really hurt a lot of them so they learn that they are just not up to living beside productive efficient Israelis.

There will never be peace until one or the other vanishes. Be realistic. It isn't going to be the Israelis. That means bye bye for the stupid. Just go in and do it. The entire world will scream for a week and sulk for a year and then the Gazoo will be gone and we can have breakfast.

There is never going to be Peace until one side completely wins. John Kerry is an asshat and the Gazoo are ALL expendable.

Remember Tarawa? We had no friends there. Flame throwers. No prisoners. Anybody feel sorry for the japanese? the Gazoo are about the same. Not our friends. Screw the French.
Do it.

#4  Jim Moran is, in fact, retiring at the end of this term.

Moran's anti Israel comments as well as some anti Jewish comments have been a prominent part of his past two decades or so.

The 8th district of VA which Moran represents includes Arlington and Alexandria and is one of the wealthiest in the US with medium household income of about $92k. It is reliably Donk. Even John Kerry got over 60% against Bush in 2004 and obama got nearly 70%

Eric Holder: Americans Should Not Be 'Color Blind,' But 'Color Brave'
[BREITBART] Attorney General Eric Inaction Jackson Holder
... aka Mister Fast and Furious...
encouraged Americans not to forget race while working for justice and equality in their country.

"As it stands, our society is not yet color blind -- nor should it be -- given the disparities that still afflict and divide us." Holder explained, "We must be color brave, and we must never forget that all are made better and more prosperous if all are given equal opportunities."

Holder made his remarks during a speech at Howard University on Tuesday for the 50th Anniversary Celebration of the Civil Rights Act.

"We must take into account not only the considerable steps forward we've seen over the last 50 years, but the entirety of the experience that people of color have faced," he said, calling for Americans to "talk frankly about inequality" in order to eradicate it.

Holder called on Congress to update the housing and lending laws to cover sexual orientation and gender as well as strengthening workplace protections.

In fact, I think if you analyze his words, if you cut through all the lofty and politically correct double speak that is typical of modern progressivescommunists, you find that what he's really saying is "Fuck you, white man."

For that reason I endorse DarthVader's rant on this post.

House GOP Slashes IRS Tax Enforcement Budget
[HOSTED.AP.ORG] The GOP-controlled House has slashed the budget for the Internal Revenue Service's tax enforcement division by $1.2 billion, a 25 percent cut that would mean fewer audits of taxpayers and make it more likely that people who cheat on their taxes will get away with it.

The House approved the cuts by voice vote after little debate Monday night as it took up a $21 billion spending bill that sets the IRS budget.

The cuts reflect GOP outrage over the agency's scrutiny of tea party groups seeking tax-exempt status and frustration over the agency's failure to produce thousands of emails by Lois Lerner, the official formerly in charge of the IRS division that processes applications for tax-exempt status.

#2  make it more likely that people who cheat on their taxes will get away with it.

Because there is no real enforcement mechanism to prevent the bureaucracy to play lose with spending authorizations, they'll just shift money around the budget to the collection department to keep the revenue flowing. So bureaucrats that cheat on their budget are likely to get away with it.

#4  Doesn't this have to pass in the Senate as well? Because if so, Harry Reid will see that it goes nowhere so long as he is in charge, ie. until the Republicans get a majority. This means this is just a warning shot across the IRS bow until the next Congress is sworn in in January.

Vote in November. Vote Republican, even if your candidate is a Rhino, because that's the only way we have any chance of reining in those arrogant, big government bastards.

#5  This is about the only tool Congress has at this point. Special prosecutors won't get by Holder. Can't impeach Holder or Obama as it won't get past Harry Reid. Cut off the money and starve the agencies of money. The government has been weaponized against the people--they have no voice or protections anymore.

Reid: Southern border is secure
[THEHILL] Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid
... the charismatic senator-for-life from Nevada, currently majority leader ...
(D-Nev.) on Tuesday asserted the southern border is secure despite the massive surge of illegal minors from Central America that has overwhelmed federal agencies.

"The border is secure," he told news hounds after the Senate Democrats' weekly policy lunch. "[Sen.] Martin Heinrich [(D-N.M.)] talked to the caucus today. He's a border state senator. He said he can say without any equivocation the border is secure."
Reid said politicians need to worry less about border security and focus instead on President B.O.'s $3.7 billion request to help process the tens of thousands of children from Honduras, Guatemala and El Salvador who have been apprehended on the border.

Secretary of Homeland Security Jeh Johnson warned Congress last week that Immigration and Customs Enforcement is due to run out of money by mid-August because of the large number of minors attempting to cross into Texas. He said Customs and Border Protection would run out of funding by mid-September.

He estimated that as many as 90,000 illegal minors would be apprehended by the end of September.

WH: We've 'Substantially Improved the Tranquility of the Global Community'
[CNSNEWS] White House press secretary Josh Earnest said Monday the B.O. regime's foreign policies in a number of areas have enhanced the world's "tranquility" — a word that raised eyebrows as news hounds pointed to situations in Gazoo, Syria, Iraq, Iran, Ukraine and the South China Sea.

More than one news hound during Monday's press briefing referred to a front-page Wall Street Journal article highlighting some of those crises, and citing security strategists as saying "the breadth of global instability now unfolding hasn't been seen since the late 1970s."

"How does the White House react to the notion that the president is a bystander to all these crises?" asked Fox News' Ed Henry, citing the widening gaps between the sides in the Iranian nuclear talks, the conflict in and around Gazoo, and the Syrian civil war.

"I think that there have been a number of situations in which you've seen this administration intervene in a meaningful way, that has substantially furthered American interests and substantially improved the, uh, you know, the — the tranquility of the global community," Earnest replied.

#12  Oh, so Obama isn't troubled by anything anymore.

I guess that happens when after 6 years the golf game is actually worse and nobody calls anymore.

Its an interesting point about his buena serra in Italy. Its not like he got loose or some shit, found a nice little restaurant, and the local people who be dropped what they were doing and rushed out to have prawns with Obama. Those people were summoned. Sure I bet they went voluntarily, finished voluntarily, and waited until Obama's ego was voluntarily fulfilled. Still, summoned.

And this grand saunter, I guess his code name was bear or something? The only thing animal related bear this guy has going on is what Putin has done to him. Sure it wasn't the meaning tough to be around; unbearable? Sure it wasn't bare..?

Yes, #thebareisloose

#13  I'm sure Josh was thinking of Libya and Somalia, where no US troops have been sent. Lately.

Not to mention, the "Kinetic Action" against Libya was about getting Euro oil, which now has to be imported from the US exports recovered by fracking! You recall Champ wanted to take credit for the increase in oil produced during his first term? This is a balance of trade benefit.

Go ahead, ask him. I'm sure that's what he meant!

Bruce Braley's War on Chickens
[Washington Free Beacon] Rep. Bruce Braley (D., Iowa) threatened to sue a homeowners' association after a chicken crossed onto his vacation home property in Iowa, again raising concerns that the Senate candidate is out-of-touch with farmers in the state, the Iowa Republican reports.

The dispute started this spring after one of his neighbors chickens appeared on his vacation property in Holiday Lake, Iowa:

Braley's wife Carolyn attended a May 8 meeting of the Holiday Lake Owners Association to complain about the fowl. The dispute escalated, causing the association to incur nearly $1,700 in legal fees after Braley called the association's attorney with an implied threat of legal action.

"Its stupid that it went this far. Any reasonable person would have talked to their neighbor in a reasonable fashion instead," said Bill Nagle, an association board member. "For being brought up on a farm, he sure has lost his rural, farm values."

Pauline Hampton, Braley's neighbor, a licensed therapist, and a U.S. Air Force veteran is a registered Democrat. She reportedly used her four chickens to work with children who have mental health and communication problems.

Hampton said she was disappointed with how the Braley's handled the affair:

"It [is] very important the citizens of Iowa know who they would be supporting and voting for to represent their best interests and the interests of farmers, and in [this] particular case, the support of children with mental illness and disabilities. It's sad this situation is based on something as simple as a chicken at large situation," Hampton told TheIowaRepublican.com.

She's also upset about the way the Braleys blindsided her with the complaint instead of trying to work it out neighbor-to-neighbor.

"I only found out about the complaint being filed when I went over and offered [the Braleys] a dozen fresh, organic eggs from the chickens," Hampton said. "[Carolyn Braley] refused to take them, stating she had filed a complaint against me. I offer all of my eggs to my neighbors, they are the only ones who have refused."
Rep. Bruce Braley (D-Iowa), the lawyer/candidate who has already faced harsh criticism several times for his disparaging comments about Iowa farmers, seems to harbor a compulsive predisposition for stepping in pig farm doo doo. At a fundraiser in Texas, Braley berated Iowa Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) for being a farmer who never went to law school. While marching in an Independence Day parade, Braley stepped in it again by falsely claiming to be a farmer himself. Braley is running in a virtual tie in the polls with Republican Senate nominee, Joni Ernst.

Joni Ernst is the pistol packin', Harley Davidson riding, Iowa Army National Guard Lieutenant Colonel, and Republican member of the Iowa Senate, who speaks fondly about castrating hogs during her youth. All of which she claims would be useful assets for eliminating pork in Washington. Ernst is endorsed in her candidacy by former Alaska Governor Sarah Palin. I don't think either one of them shoots chickens or pigs (or sues people for owning them).

#1  Bruce, Bruce, Bruce. Some how I get the feeling your goose chicken is cooked.

No re-election for you, I'd suggest you take up auto mechanics and start earning an honest living or better yet, buy a KFC franchise (11 herbs and spices.

Frankly Bruce, you would have been better off cooking the intruder at you vacation home.

Government
Missouri Governor Signs Bill To Replace Common Core Standards
[BREITBART] Missouri Gov. Jay Nixon (D) has signed legislation that provides for a task force to write new education standards that will eventually replace the Common Core in his state.

Nixon's office announced his approval of the measure Monday, the last possible day the governor could take action on bills passed earlier this year, local news KMBC.com reports.

The Republican-led Missouri legislature, which has battled the standards since their adoption in 2010, approved HB 1490 23-6 in the state Senate and 135-10 in the state House. Originally, the bill was intended to ban the Common Core standards entirely.

Increasing numbers of states are repealing the standards, removing themselves from the Common Core multi-state test consortia and passing legislation to protect their children from the data collection associated with the nationalized standards.

According to KMBC, eight advisory groups will create standards for both elementary and high school students in the state for English, math, science and history. The State Board of Education will hold public hearings on the proposed standards that are slated to be in place by 2016.

The advisory groups will be composed of appointees by state education associations and leaders, politicians, Nixon, and Lt. Gov. Peter Kinder. In addition, four members will be parents of children currently enrolled in Missouri public schools.

Until the new standards are developed and approved, however, the Common Core will remain in place in Missouri. As Education Week notes, "It's unclear to what extent the common core will survive in Missouri. There's nothing prohibiting both the work groups and the state board from largely re-adopting the common-core standards, or re-approving virtually all of the common core."

#1  No good will ever come of a Republican legislature helping a Democrat to see the light, progressive socialists will find a way to "put the train back on the tracks" for "common core"/ end the farse - Common Core is an indoctrination of socialism upon American Youth.

#2  An interesting background piece on the various efforts of the "educationists" from The Weekly Standard. Three pages, and worth every word. I'm of the New Math generation; it worked for me, but I know a lot of people developed a hatred for math that they wouldn't have, back when it was a tool instead of a philosophy of thought -- teachers included. God spare us the legions of the well intentioned!

#3  I caught New Math in the neck, in the third grade, and wound up being one of those put off of math for life ... to the point where I didn't learn how to figure percentage (as in how much off the regular price was a %30 discount ... until I was in my forties and working retail - thanks, New Math!) but fortunately had learned to read well before the educational establishment began whoring after "see-say" instead of the traditional phonics (knowing the letters and sounding out new words.) My younger sister caught that disaster in full force, and never really did enjoy reading for pleasure.

No, the more people are learning about Common Core, the more they dislike and fight it.

#4  Common Core benefits a statist government. Education should be in the ballywick of State and local government--mostly local. Keep the money at home.

#6  TW, which new math did you get hit with? I was in phase 1 in 7th & 8th grade circa '61, paperback books big on set theory. It set me back years and I liked math and was good at it. Problem was that the teachers didn't know crap or how to teach it. Needless to say, my parents couldn't help much either.

#7  Its called something else here, but from what I have read its the same thing different name.

The problem I have is they don't learn their tables; number plus itself, number times itself, number times 2,3,4 etc.

Example: 9+9=18 becomes (9+1=10) (9-1=8), 10+8=18.

That kind of thinking pays off in later math but it is important to learn the tables not only for reflexing math in everyday life, and I'm talking 1st graders here and depending upon their household may be seeing math for the first time, but because not all everyday life is done is terms of 5s and 10s; examples: 16ths of inches, days in weeks, ounces, how many 3 pointers need to tie a game, so on.

Plus the word problems are totally unreadable to me, nevermind my daughter trying to figure it out (1st grade testing 3rd grade but with this CCrap I don't even know what that means, if she has a gift (she does), if the tests are dummy-downed (they are), or if nobody knows how to read (many don't)).

#8  Thanks TW for the Andrew Ferguson article. The Dept of Education was created under Carter. America 2000, Goals 2000, NCLB, and Common Core were created under various presidents. All approaches have proven dismal. Maybe it's time to ask the question: "Is it time to consider dissolving the Dept. of Education?"

Maybe all cabinet level agencies should all have a self-destruct mechanism built in (term limits) at some given time period, say 10 years if it can be demonstrated that they show no effectiveness in their stated mission.

#11  Education should be as 'local' as possible - preferably school or school district. Not at the state and definitely not at the federal level.

Where is 'Education' mentioned in the Constitution as being a 'Federal' concern? And no - the commerce clause (or what's left of it) doesn't count.
