Dengue virus continued to haunt people as another nine including a women died of it in various city hospitals on Friday, raising the corpse count to 205.

Mujahid (23) and Khalid (30) expired at the Mayo Hospital where they had been under treatment for the last four days.

Another patient, Ashar (25), died at CMH. Yasin (17) of Lahore Cantt, Wahab (30) of Chah Miran, Saad (11) of Nankana and Khalida (30) of Chah Miran lost their battle against dengue at Services Hospital.

The identity of two patients is yet to be ascertained.

Patients with high fever flocked to hospitals in the city.

According to provincial health department figures during the last 24 hours, 700 new dengue cases were reported in Punjab, raising the number to 14,729 while 461 new cases were reported in Lahore, raising the total to 12,657.

Some 1,862 patients are under treatment in various hospitals in Punjab while over 500 have recovered.

#2 Interesting observation, Frank. May be the result of having a healthy immune system that goes into a positive feedback loop with a cytokine storm. A similar demographic skew was noticed in the 1917 flu pandemic and the recent breakouts of bird flu.

How many of them were poor rather than members of the middle class, who could presumably afford the cost of medical care? In other words, is the epidemic reaching further into the population than the statistics indicate?
