#1 While I don’t doubt that COVID restrictions failed, unless the aircraft tested had documented tank sterilization I wouldn’t bet the ranch on this study. The airlines’ honey wagons only empty, not sterilize the tanks.
And just for fun, while you are waiting to board your next flight, watch the various servicing activities that take place. You might notice that some aircraft have the potable water service location behind the lavatory tank drain. Picture what a subsonic wind does to any spillage and its path. Never drink airplane water.
