It happens more than you think. Ever try to read a file on disk and it is corrupt? 24/7 mission critical computer systems need triple redundant systems. Like, you know, the FAA requires on aircraft.

#20 Ever heard of Tandem? They were pioneers on mission critical business systems. They ran, for instance, the back end of 24 hour ATM machines. Triple redundancy w/ cycle by cycle error checking and majority voting. Similar for aircraft, except many have quadruple redundancy. Try putting that "on the cloud".

And how do you think designers ensure that does not happen? Take for instance when an alpha particle or cosmic ray flips a bit or several. A bit(s) that you really need to know the value. Does your cloud detect it? Isolate it? Continue operation with the non-corrupted parts?
