#8 There has been interest in 'E-Bombs' for decades. See Non-nuclear EMP Weapons. The practical objection is that high explosive works just fine and is a lot cheaper.

#9 If one were detonated above a city, all electronics would shut down. No fridges, microwaves, lights or electricity. This is WW3’s weapon. How about over nuclear power plant or coal generation plant. Maybe this is what many of those satellites are? Starve, riot and die.. This is possibly the only reason for windmills.

#11 Magpie, I believe ARPA (DARPA predecessor) has been working on such devices off and on since the 1960s. Their developments tend to show up a generation later, but they do tend to show up.
