More plainly, I guess: It does no good to say “this one ought to win because...” There is no way of knowing until the game is actually played to the end — or in this case the war fought to the end — who actually wins and loses depends as much on the heart and stubbornness of the fighters as it does on the size and equipment of the armies.

Napoleon said, "Morale is to material as three is to one." Putting aside the propaganda of both sides, we have no way of knowing which side will win until after one side has conclusively won. Pushing for premature negotiation based on the claim that one outcome is assured only guarantees there will be a rematch.
