You might find Yudkowsky’s Harry Potter and the Methods of Rationality more to your taste than the Rowling originals, since you don’t appreciate those properly.

My recall was was in the 1990a. In one case he was going thru part of the country and observed that this seemed like a country from another century and I don't mean the 19th. In another he pointed out that in Russia the way to enforce a contract is with a contract and a couple of armed enforcers.
