ANY ICBM can reach low earth orbit....and hit anywhere on earth, if that was the intent. But they only need to go from here to "the farthest you can get away" which is exactly opposite on the globe, or about 12,000 miles.
So, with a low earth orbit nuke you can launch around the world and hit yourself....yep, that's pretty scary stuff.
Since the places we need to nuke are not 12,000 miles away, more like about 5,000 miles on the great circle routes over the pole, to Moscow from the US midwest. And to Beijing...around 6,500 miles.
And launched from a sub....WAY shorter.
Kind of a pointless stunt, actually.

#2 CCP-PLA Dropping a Nuke from Low orbit.

What If the CCP space station orbiting at 110+/- miles deploys, along with some miss leading space trash for cover, 3 four drawer file cabinet size 1/2 megaton or nukes in Low Orbit?

UNLIKE the Space Shuttle, Time on Target area is reached in a few mins.

Popping these (HEMP) at say 25+ to 50 miles up:

Kills about 1.5 Million of the US population in under 5 mins. and wrecks havoc on the US/Canadian Power Grid, electronics and transportation system.

But remember a number of other hostile countries are playing with low orbit missiles for many years (NK, Russia, Iran and etc)

A simple 2Duck Search" EMP threats" produces a few weeks reading.

But the 2019 congressional report is likely enough.

#4 Never saw the logic of the scary Communist China using EMP warheads threat...

They pop one off, it's a nuke right?, and then one or two Tridents could carpet the coastal metropolises of China shortly thereafter. Mutual Assured Destruction, 'Yellow Peril Edition'. They just don't have the throw weight (we believe) that the Soviets had back in the day. IIRC the projected use of a EMP was a sub launched fractional orbit toss to scramble our defenses before the wave of ICBMs came over the North Pole in a full blown 'extermination' nuclear strike...

Now... Iran or North Korea? Terror attack of a few missiles by crazy people is why we have been investing in ABM defenses.

#7 So. Russia tested an ASW on one of their own satellites. All the media in the west seems concerned about is that the debris may be dangerous to the International Space Station. Hey, aren't the Russians, um, partners in the ISS?

#8 Takes 90 minutes to orbit in LEO and you have a known trajectory that can be targeted by lasers or anti-sattelite missiles. There are much better/cheaper ways to deliver the package.
