It's entirely, 100%, in Russia's sphere of interest - in fact, if any foreign nation's interests are involved, it's the interests of that Black Sea neighbor and NATO member that's actually done more to hurt our national interest than Russia ever has in the last three decades. Russia cannot rebuild their aggressive empire w/o the population, industry and agriculture of Ukraine. The Ukrainians don't want to be a part of it, nor have half their population wiped out like in the last century. It's in the US interest to prevent it and have a friendly and prosperous Ukraine.

Ukrainians have been trying to clean up their corruption, in fits and starts, ever since Yanukovich got overthrown while the Russians have encouraged corruption, started a war (100,000 dead relative to US population) and have so far scared off western rapprochement with Ukrainians.

Denial of oil and gas sales hurt the Russian treasury directly, strangling Putin's war ambitions. Russia (and Iran) had to cut back their wars in Ukraine and Mideast due to the lack of money. ~~Dumbass~~ Traitor Biden admin recently approved a huge gas pipeline directly into Germany and anti-Us oil and gas policies have more than doubled the price of oil and gas prices. Holodomor: 4-6 million deaths. 15-20% of pop
Gulag deportee deaths: >.5 million 2% of pop
WWII and German occupation: 7 million, 17% of pop
Post WWII insurrection: 150,000

That comes to 40-45% of population killed last century. That does not include the hundreds of thousands murdered in Checka, NKVD and KBG prisons.
