#1 We know that Minnesota is considered a Dem/Socialist stronghold, but I was somewhat surprised to see that the numbers were rather close in 2016.

So, being an election year, let's see if Trump continues to flip off Minnesota.

#2 would have been better to give MN the funds but put lots of conditions about requiring an independent review that assures that MN/SP has a protocol for assuring safety of public buildings and a procedure for dealing with public officials who allow rioting

#3 The people of MN and Minneapolis voted these clowns in. They own it. Those are the same pols who without a bat of the eye holds all antebellum white southerns as bigots and white supremacists and got what they deserved in 1865.

#4 Trump's Minnesota voters were not from the Peoples Dumbocrapic Rethuglic of Minneapolis, so I don't think this move will hurt him.

#5 Re: #2 Trump is doing this correctly.

He needs a simple slap-down not a complicated negotiation.

#8 The feds need to publicly bring Out the series of events before the govt of Minnesota and the American public. It must be clear that the state officials, city councils and mayors that actions and inactions have huge consequences. The goal is to help the citizens recover but the govt has has to have the monkey on its back to comply. That means having adequate law enforcement with a mandate to enforcement of the law. This means that governors take responsibility. Serious tough love.

#9 Is federal money free? In this case it must be the stick approach. If the state govt does not like it single them out and let he citizens know. In Portland the feds need to step in as the gov and city has failed.

They'd welsh on the deal in no time, and a subsequent denial of funds by Trump would be more politically painful than just saying "no" from the start.

Let's see if the administration sticks with this.

#16 New York Times columnist Thomas L. Friedman claims to have coined the term, having used the phrase "the pottery store rule" in a February 12, 2003, column. He has said he referred to Pottery Barn specifically in speeches. According to Washington Post journalist Bob Woodward, U.S. Secretary of State Colin Powell cited the rule in the summer of 2002 when warning President George W. Bush of the consequences of his planned military action in Iraq:
