Rather, when there are so many other regions, genres and traditions — all “equally deserving of study” — putting European art on a pedestal is “problematic,” he said.

Sure.

Islamic squiggles = Michelangelo's contraposto, Caravaggio's chiaroscuro and Da Vinci's sfumato. Equally deserving, right.

Mesoamerican pots are the equivalent of Velasquez.

African masks are the equivalent of Rembrandt's portraits. Yup.

Are these people trying to f--- up our children?
