#1 That's the plan. Iran starts a fight, the Dems use it as pretext against Trump, and they hope anti-war sentiment sweeps them into office.

Afterwards they pay off the Iranians again, just as Kerry negotiated.

#4 So, what authority did a prior administration have in acting on Libya? What proof was presented to rationalize/justify that action?

War is not a game. Do or do not. They can cry all they want, but someone who has the will to carry out an overwhelming, definitive, hard destruction of an long time adversary in matter of days/weeks will be seen as a winner by the only people who count.

#5 For a fraction of what is spent messing around in the ME and Asia we could completely seal the CONUS borders, triple what we spend on missile defense and spend that same amount on Prompt Global Strike and another nice dash of cash for intel platforms. Then sit back and say "Go ahead, try it..."

#6 US Navy: Mine used against Japanese tanker similar to Iranian mines

The US Navy on Wednesday displayed fragments of limpet mines it said had been removed from one of two oil tankers that were attacked in the Gulf of Oman – saying the devices bore a “striking resemblance” to Iranian ones.

“The limpet mine that was used in the attack is distinguishable and also strikingly bearing a resemblance to Iranian mines that have already been publicly displayed in Iranian military parades,” said Cmdr. Sean Kido, who leads an explosive ordnance dive and salvage task group in the Naval Forces Central Command.

Kido, who spoke to reporters at a NAVCENT facility near the UAE port of Fujairah, showed small fragments said to have been removed from the Japanese-owned Kokuka Courageous.

Also on display was a magnet purportedly left by a team from Iran’s Revolutionary Guard.

The US military previously released images it said showed the IRGC removing an unexploded limpet mine from the Kokuka Courageous, which was hit by explosions along with the Norwegian-owned Front Altair ship on June 13.

#7 Despite the similarity between this and the Gulf of Tonkin incident (both involved boats and water), my read is the Iranians done it. A not-very-effective attack to give everyone a taste of what sort of disruption to expect if things went south, combined with some brave rescues at sea to show the world they aren't such bad guys after all.

Unexpectedly, the cheap munitions (Russian export grade or indigenous Iranian?) didn't all go off and someone had to go retrieve the un-exploded evidence least people see thru the ruse.

#8 Bbbbbb but, the peace loving Iranians would leave everybody alone if only the pallets of DoS cash started flying in again. And you can bet there are assholes at Foggy Bottom trying to sell that right now...

#9 Bernie doesn't believe communism doesn't work despite lots of bloody evidence, or that capitalism works (if left alone by government folks) despite raising standards of living worldwide. Reality really isn't his strong suit.

Love of Bernie serves as a nice weather-vane to judge if someone you are talking to is an idiot or not.

Hush, now, P2K. That was the Baraq admin which is beyond question.

#12 If only the USA didn't have a track record of false flag attacks to start wars with countries that never attacked us, this wouldn't be an issue.

Hey, who can rattle off a false flag attack that started a war? I'll start: Gulf of Tonkin. Next? Hint: there are a lot of them.

He could smell Kermit Roosevelt's toes
And the web of defeat
That we cast in his street
When he trampled our sweet roamin' rose.

#17 I just want to say that #12 is *not* HerbBot, which is still under development. Although admittedly the output is similar.

As for to start wars with countries that never attacked us, we are talking Iran here. Don't make me get out the history book.

#18 For a fraction of what is spent messing around in the ME and Asia we could completely seal the CONUS borders,

The Mad Mullah’s agents have been inside the walls since 1979, M. Murcek, and spying out targets and assembling munitions shortly thereafter. The Muslim Brotherhood predates them here, as I recall. We did clear out a lot of underbrush after 9/11, when they fled — mostly to Canada, as I recall — instead of registering with the government.

And no, we could not completely seal the borders. Only seal them better, enough to discourage most of the amateurs.
