#2 Our downsized Ratites (non-flyers) probably evolved from prehistoric cousins 25-30 million years ago. I doubt they would have survived as limp-wristed metrosexuals.

Domestication and confinement may yet be something of a challenge.

#5 My older sister once called the 911 dispatcher to report an Emu that had escaped a local commercial farm... She was on an early commute and for some reason it decided to chase her car down the highway. She told me the dispatcher's reactions were priceless...

Another sister had been a zookeeper, Baltimore Zoo, and shared that you needed to carry a straw broom in an Emu pen. They *will* kick the zookeepers, but if you hold the broom overhead and slam any aggressive bird then it thinks you are the Big Birdâ„¢ in the pecking order and will stop attacking.
