#1 The story has taken many turns -- including whether Sen. Harry Reid (D-Nev.) is involved (it appears he isn't)...

A bit early for that conclusion I'm afraid.

However, a lot of this destined since the Federal government has refused to hand over land to state control even though Nevada has been a state since 1864. When the fed still owns more than 50 percent of the land, why is it a state? States east of and along the Mississippi weren't treated like that when then joined the union from territorial status.

#3 The "excuse" for the attempted BLM take-over was the endangered desert tortoise. Since the BLM has approved and even promoted solar farms to be built in the desert why is the danger to the tortoise not an issue? 89% of Nevada land is owned by the Fed. Do you really think anything could be done on Nevada federal land without Nasty Harry's approval? How does one get Harry's approval? Outright bribes and "contributions" to Harry's campaign war chest? Wanna bet Clive Bundy has never contributed to Nasty Harry?

#4 Another indicator of potential involvement; an unrepentant Reid is coming out of the corner swinging with angry statements, etc. His son is now involved and implicated, so it's personal. He knows he lost the first round and is now going for the knockout.

No, ownership of 89% of Nevada land is "claimed" by the Federal government. Nevada could and should do something about.

In fact, all Western States need to launch a coordinated legal assault on the Feds claims of ownership of their sovereign state lands.

We need to divest the Feds of their possession of these lands and return them to the people of the respective states.

#8 Long drive back to a safe haven like Nellis AFB*. Was a long walk back from Lexington Concord for Crown troops way back when. [What, you didn't have a plan for withdraw?]. It's easy getting in. It's another getting out.

*I'm sure the base commander whose family members live off base will be real happy having them seek shelter there.

#10 Reid is most likely involved but there are lots of questions that arise.
The BLM is doing a big land grab all over the West, initiating a Buy-Back plan to return fractionated inherited properties on the Reservation that go back to treaties made in 1870. Tribes were to keep it in the family and retained mineral rights, but the Feds administer the royalties monies and negotiate contracts with the energy and mineral companies that are profiting from extraction. Then the EPA also unilaterally change laws, too, annexing part of Wyoming. Utah, Arizona, and Colorado have challenged the feds, wanting to assert states' rights and have more control over natural treasures. There is also supposedly another big gas find in Nevada with the hot penny stock tips coming in--all coincidences? More is going on than a contract cowboy round-up.

#11 And Harry Reid (and Son) act as if they, personally, own all that Federal land.

I think people should start asking questions. Why does the Federal Government lay claim to so much land in the west? Personally I think they should own land for A) Military Bases or B) Government offices. And no, you can't claim that 89% of Nevada is one giant Military Base. Everything else should be owned by the State. Even 'National Parks' should be owned by the state (the Fed can run then - but not own them).
