#3 They don't like the current rules that don't allow them to censor content in another nation. The don't like the ability of other nations to ignore their requests for censorship. There are a host of other nation who feel the same way. The UN we be happy to oblige them. So of course they are all for a UN run Internet A wild and woolly Internet suits me just fine. The kind of “rules” we could expect under the UN would preclude sites like Rantburg I am sure.

Sorry we invented the creation that allowed the Internet to develop. For now we will dominate the "rules." The UN as usual can FOAD.

#4 Article: "It should ensure an equitable distribution of resources, facilitate access for all and ensure a stable and secure functioning," he said at the conference on Internet governance.

The guy's saying that China should get a piece of the action even though Uncle Sam pays most of the bills. I understand why he might want this, but it's not clear why Uncle Sam should hand over the keys to the kingdom. In other words, him and what army?

#5 AlGore will be heart broken when he learns what his Chinese buddies are proposing for HIS invention. If it's the "digital medium" that concerns the Chi-coms, then maybe they can hire bribe Algore to invent a network based on analog technology. One with lotsa controls and little functionality. ;)

#9 Darn, I haven't noticed this has been posted already! Had a busy day, so I did not have time to go through all the posts... It's in the queue, Fred. If the commentary does not seem worth posting, you can bit-bucket it mercilessly.

#10 Mrs. D: The Chinese continue to try and start or invent their own right across the technology spectrum. But they end up hopelessly behind the curve almost immediately. There are three forces you never want to bet against in global technology: ethernet, TCP/IP and American sales and marketing--all of which are an outcome of free markets.
