#1 This guy...zulfiqar totally right. Being muslims Islam has to ge our way of life. But capitalism and islam cannot go hand-in-hand...the former based solely on exploitation and self-interests.

#3 Putting the moral debate to one side, look at what America has achieved in two hundred years of capitalism - it is the wealthiest country in the world with one of the highest standards of living for its citizens. Look where the Muslim world stands in comparison - largely impoverished. Thus I believe the basis for 9/11 in part was jealousy. Don't like capitalism? Don't buy our products. Do your own thing.

#4 "...cleanse society of capitalism in order for Islam to take its place..."
Is Islam the only religion that can't live side by side with capitalism?
Could Islam get past a 7th century standard of living on its own?

#5 I’ve only a passing knowledge about the end of European colonialism in general and the Commonwealth nations in specific.

That said, Howard…when I was in Pakistan I had a strong relationship with the Brits. I crewed with the Brit High Commissioner in dual handed sailing events and drank with the RM’s. In their own way, each brought up the situation concerning dual citizenship.

As I understand it, if any former member of a Commonwealth Nation wanted to immigrate to the UK, they got a free ride. The complaint by the HC and the RM was that in many cases the only words of English known was “national assistance”. I fully realize this is anecdotal, but remember this was in the late 60’s, and look what’s taken place in the UK (and the EU for that matter) as far as the population goes. It’s a new invasion, with the war just barely joined. And a war it is.

Yup, capitalism to all socialists is the root of all evil. I guess that’s why we’ve been so successful, with a high standard of living and folks from across the planet trying to get in. Our “poor” are living at a higher standard than many of the well off in other countries. And we still find it within our means to help out whenever and wherever we can.

Proud to be an American. Proud to have the Brits our friends.

#6 RN: Interesting - have American relatives and view with awe what they've been able to achive.

Certainly, with a booming economy, immigration from the commonwealth is a necessity for the UK. Despite my rabid outbursts on RB I do enjoy living in a diverse society. The problem being that it isn't sufficiently well controlled and thuis is open to abuse - we are just beginning to wake up to this. It is also open to abuse from fascists like Hammad (above) who in condoning the author's views arrogantly believe that everyone would be better off living under his religion. Some of us, Hammad, don't necessarily believe in a god or capitalism or the Tooth Fairy, some of us don't think too hard about things, our preoccupation is making the lives of our children as comfortable and safe as possible.
