I guess they figured out its too close to mid-term elections to mandate 96.5+/-% of the straight US Female population and the 65++ Million with kids to fight wars.

#2 The final version of the defense act will be introduced Monday, a source told Politico. The expanded draft was removed so that Republicans would accept military justice system reforms.

And by 'military justice system reforms' they mean 'guilty until proven guilty, whatever it takes' on anything having to do with sexual assault or harassment.

#8 Why do we even bother having people register for the draft? The US has had an all-volunteer force since 1973. The military does not want conscripts - they don't want to be there, and often perform worse than volunteers.

#9 In a large WWIII across 3 continents type of war, we will need a draft. Which is why we still have selective service. I am all for women getting drafted. You wanted equal rights, you got it. Not for them in ground pounder combat roles. They mostly do not have the body mass and the endurance to cut it. Pilots and other roles, absolutely they can pull their weight.
