#1 Since the 1990s the CIA has fought any attempt to eliminate the Muslim Brotherhood (Ikhwan al-Muslimeen) influence in the USA. Throughout that time the Muslim Student Association of the USA was in direct opposition to US Middle East policy. Although complaints were made to it, the FBI basically wanted no role in forming a policy to confront the growing Islamist movement. Thus, 9/11 was absolutely no surprise to analysts who were following Middle East developments.
