#1 Have the Russians been referring to Ukraine as a former Soviet Republic, or is this new?

Also, is the description of the SAS here normal? I don’t recall them organizing protests, assassinations, or terror attacks.

#2 tw, the SAS has a history of 'not so clean' operations. Operation Flavius(1988) in Gibraltar against the IRA during the height of 'The Troubles' was rather public.

A British man sentenced to death by a Russian proxy court for fighting in Ukraine has been told the execution will be carried out, his family say.

Mr Aslin told his family his captors said there had been no attempt by UK officials to negotiate on his behalf.
The foreign secretary discussed his case with Ukraine earlier in June.

#6 Just because the prisoner was told nobody spoke up for him does not mean that’s so. After all, it was reported not long ago that the Russians were providing regular Ukrainian prisoners with fake newspapers to demoralize them.
