#2 Guy I work with sez there were shitloads of people on the top of the trains; probably hanging off the sides as well. If that's the case I'm pretty sure that misses the point of safe train travel, Pete Buttjob or otherwise.

#4 This does surprise me. I did ride the trains in India, albeit 10 years ago, and had a very pleasant experience.

#6 A sideswipe at speed is probably worse than a head-on or rear-end collision. The passenger cars are designed for front or rear impacts, but not to peel off the side of the car. Not to mention any folks riding on top.
