#3 My wife and i were driving from mass. to fl. and the difference in attitude as we entered 'dixie' was notable. I have been perpatetic but my wife a born-in-ohio yank, noticed it also. Dixie! Yea!

#5 As a native Washingtonian, I grew up knowing God graced the South with beauty and great people, but forgot to temper the humid weather. The first time I took my lovely bride East (native Southern Californian) to Williamsburg for our belated honeymoon, we took the Red-Eye into then National Airport, got the rental car and drove directly there (4th of July, early afternoon, 1976), she stepped out of the air conditioned car and this charming, polished, daughter of an Episcopal clergyman and granddaughter of the Bishop of Los Angeles exclaimed: "Holy Sh*t, you gotta be kidding me!"
