#4 As Benjamin Franklin said after the Constitutional Convention when he was asked what form of government had been chosen , he replied , " A republic if you can keep it . " Other choice were a constitutional monarchy , the Swiss Canton system , and a few others, . The anger held toward the English pretty well killed anything with the word monarchy in it. Imagine if we had ended up with King George Washington and a Parliament that used Robert's Rules of Order .
