#1 That is a T-34/85. You can tell by the hatch, machine gun next to it and the longer barrel.

#4 I don't know what they're doing to it in the factory...

...but I think I mentioned earlier the T-55 might have mobility advantages over some more modern tanks thanks to its lower ground pressure. I don't know if that has anything to do with this, but I thought I'd mention it again.

Most lighter, even modern tanks have that advantage over the M1 and other NATO tanks. What made the T-55 nasty for its time is that it was just as good as the M-48 with a bigger gun, cheap and the Soviets could make a metric shit ton of them. They were the start of the Soviet horde nightmare that NATO had and thus the west added nukes to the battle plan. Add the new BMP-1 to the mix and NATO generals didn't have a good nights sleep until the M1 and the Bradley were deployed.

#8 Looks like T-55 turret on T-34 hull. From the pic, I can't tell the gun barrel size. The gun barrel lacks the old muzzle break, and the tracks are modern era. It's a hybrid for sure and that can't be good news for the Russers.

#10 Who knew we had so many tank nerds running loose? Yet another example of why Rantburg U is so great.

Lately, I've heard tell of the Russ using tanks for indirect fire. Certainly not a new idea, but the modern twist is using drones to call the shots. Tank v Tank is a whole 'nother story, but for this application, funky old tanks would serve just fine.

I'm not really a tank nerd.... but as an 11BC2 I had to know how each enemy tank moved, engagement ranges, soft spots, etc. while knowing the same for friendly tanks and just kind of out of habit kept on it with the most recent upgrades and deployments.
