Milenio has a problem with its linking software in that new stories are accompanied by previous stories that are related, except sometimes their software will append the latest story with the full text of the older story leaving the reader with the idea the older story just happened. I am the one that mockingly put words into Janet Napolitano. At the time of my posting, Norwegian officials had named the attack 'Terrorism' and 'most certainly Muslim terror' in the Google translated link slightly higher. part of the snark in my post is that Napolitano and the 0bama regime in general had acted exactly as i depicted in other cases.

POLITICAL-LEGAL JIHAD = why wage anything more than anti-US, NATO "holding actions", albeit violent or bloody, when you are likely to takeover or dominate the Govt-State anyway, + TO INCLUDE "LEGAL" POLITICAL CONTROL OF PAK'S NUCLEAR ARSENAL + RELATED CVILIAN NUCPROGS.
In Radical Islam's mindset, they will had won because the victorious US-NATO is leaving or abandoning the battlefield, or most of same, for reasons other than absolute or total victory.
* WATERGATE REDUX = everyone in Asia-Pacific knew that South Vietnam was now just so much "WALKING DEAD/DEADMEAT" when POTUS NIXON resigned. Nixon had reduced the massive Amer ground presence in South Vietnam ala "Vietnamization" but not Amer's MilPol commitment to militarily defend same agz North Vietnam. Wid the US ABANDONMENT OF SOUTH VIETNAM + 1975 FALL OF SAIGON CAME THE FALL OF LAOS + CAMBODIA + EXPANSION OF COMMUNISM + ANTI-AMERICANISM THROUGHOUT SE ASIA.
It will be the same in AFPAK + CENTRAL-SOUTH ASIA vee NUCLEARIZING Radical Islam iff the US gets it wrong again.

US-WORLD NAVAL AIRCRAFT CARRIERS = GREAT OR MASSIVE "OFFENSIVE" POWER BUT ALSO GREAT VULNERABILITY.
Ditto HT AIRSHIPS as per GREAT OR MASSIVE "DEFENSIVE" POWER MIXED WID GREAT VULNERABILITY.
Think integrated "a fully-armed B52 BUFF, Recce-SPAWAR, AC130 SPECTRE, andor BMD Sys that hardly or never leaves a combat area or strategic zone".
AFAIK the US Army + USDOD-DARPA are dev WIP designs for utility as an AIRBORNE RR = ORBITAL TROOPS, CARGO LARGE-UNIT/QUANTITY MIL TRANSPORT.
The Cold War Soviets recognized the above potential of Airships + deemed it as inherently "destabilizing", demanding that neither US-NATO nor their own WARSAW PACT ever develop + deploy same for military purposes. |

From Swift Vets website:
Sanders received upgraded his Silver Star in 92 under Clinton when Sanders was Assistant Sec of some one in the Navy. That was political to use his position to have his Bronze Star upgraded. Kerry's first PH would also come into play since his political orginization in 2004 admitted his first PH may have been self inflicted, they would just open the door and if someone received medals by lying or altering documents for awards, they should lose them the same way.
and
In doing further research and talking with others involved. The Silver Star was rescinded last August and just now is being reported in the Navy Times which is dated 7/18/2011 but the print copy was delivered on the 12th. Statements which Wade stated were proven false and he could give not one witnesses to back his statements, nor remember any one involved. |

Sanders is the author of many published articles and opinion pieces in major newspapers and the Navy Institute Proceeding, and served as a columnist for Military.com and a television commentator on national security matters and the war in Iraq for NBC and Fox.
He sat on the board of the non-profit organization Vietnam Veterans of San Diego.
A former Deputy Assistant United States Secretary of the Navy during the Clinton Administration, he contributed significantly to the Post Cold War restructuring and modernization of the Armed Forces of the United States and worked with the United States Secretary of Defense to achieve full integration of the Reserve and Guard Components of the U.S. Military.
He was also a member of the San Diego Police Department Senior Oversight Committee and briefly ran for the United States Congress as a Democrat in 2000 before dropping out of the race, citing a lack of funding.
The sentence from U.S. District Court Judge Thomas Whelan was far less than the maximum term of 10 years, and less than the 63 months federal prosecutors were seeking.
Whelan was nominated by President Bill Clinton on June 4, 1998. |

More insidious than that. The way the scoundrels are writing treaties today is to do so in such a way that nations "commit before agreement", in which the leaders agree to target "goals" in their nations, before the treaty has been approved and signed.
This turns things around, by requiring majority *disapproval* of a treaty, rather than *approval* before at least parts of it are implemented.
For example, when Clinton was leaving office, he signed on to the ICC treaty, forcing Bush and the Republican controlled senate to say "Hell no!" Even before then, the Republican senate had rejected the signed Test Ban treaty.
We still have the damned Kyoto agreement over our heads, because while the senate won't confirm, it won't trash can it, at least yet. |

It begins with everyone making fun of the very idea that it can be anyone other than Muslims. People mockingly blamed in turn "the Amish", the "Laplanders", "the Buddhists", "the Lutherans"
This is probably one of those cultural jokes that loses something in translation. It is common practice here in the United States for news reports to omit certain details when the perpetrators are black or Muslim. Diminishing the self-esteem of minorities or reinforcing prejudices would be mean, I guess.
Also, as pointed out radical Islamists *did* take credit for the attack. Combine that with the historical data over the last decade ( roughly a thousand to one), and "Muslims" is a reasonable bet. But as always, facts get the last word. (like that will stop us from being snarky in the meantime!) |

And eighteen of the thirty-five posts were either reports of new information or links to information sources, at a time when all the major news outlets were talking about it being a jihadi attack, likely revenge for the imminent expulsion of Mullah Krekar. I misremembered acts of caution for words of caution, perhaps because that is how I explicitly framed the news on my Facebook page. My apologies. |

Aris, radical Islamists immediately claimed credit for the attack. It was rational to believe them, since this is how they act. I did mention Norway was home to a kind of Nazi, but did not expect it to be socialists attacking other socialists; different flavors of Nazis, red on red. |

"Here at Rantburg we reminded ourselves to wait for the evidence before drawing conclusions about the perpetrator."
Trailing wife, I've read that thread: http://www.rantburg.com/poparticle.php?ID=326737&D=2011-07-22&SO=&HC=1
It begins with everyone making fun of the very idea that it can be anyone other than Muslims. People mockingly blamed in turn "the Amish", the "Laplanders", "the Buddhists", "the Lutherans" -- talked about whether Norwegians will now play "vikings and muslims", etc, etc.
And someone openly mocked the idea that it might be a neonazi instead, by putting it in the mouth of Napolitano.
So: No, Rantburg certainly did not remind itself to wait for the evidence. Everyone in that thread mocked the very idea that it might be someone who wasn't a muslim. Don't rewrite history, please. |

They've got what they call a multiparty system in Iran, Aris, but all candidates have to be approved by the Mullahcracy regardless. While slightly more liberal than official
single party states, these states are neither democracies nor republics, and not therefore not praiseworthy. Except, perhaps, in the American saying, "For a fat girl she doesn't sweat much." |

45 Senators guarantees no treaty, and that would generally be the end of it. Why negotiate a treaty that that the Senate has pre-nullified for you? But this administration is above such menial things and will boldly forge ahead. |

"Bill Clinton", you are arguing about the categories "left" or "right", same as someone else might argue for the categories blegg and rube.
You care about the category, because there is a disguised query behind your words: "Which group should feel ashamed for having him as part of them?" And having decided you don't want to feel ashamed for him, you decide he's not a right-winger.
Careful with that reasoning and with that hidden query! For though the words "left" and "right", "socialist" and "conservative" are fuzzy enough that you can assign everyone and everything to each of them, some words like "multi-culturalist" and "anti-multiculturalist" are slightly (slightly) more specific, and you won't be able to shove every monster into the *other* bin. |

Not writer, weiter. Autospell doesn't like unexpected foreign languges.
there's a phrase in Greek that roughly translates to "The Caesar's wife need not just BE honorable, but SEEM honorable".
About Mrs. Augustus Caesar, I believe. A woman who was was so steeped in perfidy that seeming honorable was all she had left. "Pure as Caesar's wife", as we say in English, has sadly never been a compliment. |

I can't speak to the Palestinians -- although it's even more disconcerting if the demonstrations were staged than if they were spontaneous -- but in Lackawanna, New York (home of the Lackawanna Six), my darling mother-in-law reported singing, dancing, and candy being handed out in the Yemeni section of town. They stopped when they noticed her watching, then resumed after she drove past. Other Rantburgers have reported seeing the same thing in Detroit. So whether or not the Palestinians staged it, others were indeed spontaneous in their celebrations.
But it was also members of the Lackawanna Muslim community who turned in the Six to the authorities, because they didn't accept the lads' jihad. I've seen things to indicate it was an imam at the mosque and the fathers of some of the Six, which speaks pretty strongly to the strength of their conviction. We've been following this growing argument within Islam for the past several years, here at Rantburg -- there is a battle of books between Dr. Ayman al Zawahiri and several former theologians of violent jihad who have come to rethink their former positions (Zawahiri is losing, in case you wondered) and another on being fought on YouTube...and of course much of what we know about the jihadis in Iraq, Afghanistan and elsewhere comes from information shared by Muslim locals who disagree with the jihadis, for whatever reason.
Anybody who then accuses us of LOOKING evil because of what they assume us to be is too simpleminded to be worth arguing with, because he isn't interested in external reality. Have you gone to the news outlets to accuse them of bigotry because at first they all trumpeted the car bomb as a Muslim attack? Here at Rantburg we reminded ourselves to wait for the evidence before drawing conclusions about the perpetrator.

EU, the para above your selected posting stipulates -
The demonstration did happen and was condemned by Arafat; the footage was current.[9]
As for Aris, it's simply posted to bring home visually the fact that there were those who indeed act in such a manner. You imply an intent that was not there. If you allow the broad brushing of a group for the actions or the excuses issued by a few, that principle applies to both sides.
Palestinian celebrations
The Palestinian National Authority (PNA) immediately condemned the attacks. Fox News reported that in Ein el-Hilweh, Lebanon's largest Palestinian refugee camp, revelers fired weapons in the air, with similar celebratory gunfire heard at the Rashidiyeh camp near the southern city of Tyre as well.[18]
Reports and images of Palestinians from East Jerusalem, Nablus, and Lebanon taking to the streets in celebration, were broadcast around the world.[18] with many newspapers, magazines, Web sites and wire services running photographs.[21][22] The PNA claimed such celebrations were not representative of the sentiments of the Palestinian people, and the Information Minister Yasser Abed Rabbo said the PNA would not allow "a few kids" to "smear the real face of the Palestinians". In an attempt to quash further reporting, Ahmed Abdel Rahman, Arafat's Cabinet secretary, said the Palestinian Authority could not "guarantee the life" of an Associated Press (AP) cameraman if footage he filmed of post-9/11 celebrations in Nablus was broadcast. Rahman's statement prompted a formal protest from the AP bureau chief, Dan Perry.[23][22] |
