Did Obama find out about on the news? Does Holder know yet? I bet if someone asks him why he'll say, "I don't know". He doesn't seem to know much about anything else.

One answer to "why now?": A federal judge earlier this week ruled that the Justice Department will have to begin submitting documents next month related to the botched Fast and Furious gun operation in a case brought by Judicial Watch.

If someone was on to somethign I would think he'd be better positioned to stop it as Attorney General. It would have to be something big, and released by someone big.
Could he fear a Republican Senate might go after him and thus a deal was made?

So if he resigns and Obama appoints someone worse. That someone is either confirmed (not likely) and can cover up the same way Holder did, or that appointment goes through a long drawn out confirmation process.
So what would a long span without an Attorney General do in regards to ongoing investigations?

He probably wants a 2 year head start on the FBI and/or SOCOM who want to hunt this guy down. I'm sure he's on a lot of people's enemies list.

Rumor. Whatever the reason for todays news of his stepping down, Obama is wanting to have him in a position of nominating him to replace Justice Ginsburg on the Supreme Court if she will retire. And she would do that for the leftists.

Not certain Holder could muster the support for a Supreme Court appointment. He's been found 'In contempt of Congress'.... whatever that means today. Washington Times article, same topic.
