Thief drives out of Guinness with 40,000 pints
uinness would have you believe that good things come to those who wait.

But a man who drove a truck into the company's famous Dublin brewery moved fast before hitching up a trailer containing 450 kegs of different beers and escaping through the front gates.

The audacious robbery took place on Wednesday afternoon at the St James' Gate brewery in Dublin 8, and could ensure a very merry Christmas for someone looking at approximately 40,000 pints.

Diageo, the drinks company that owns Guinness, Budweiser and Carlsberg, said yesterday that the tab stands at €64,000.

That works out at less than £1.14-a-pint, as it does not include mark ups by the Government or the publicans. In the pub, the haul would be worth £114,000.

"It's a serious breach of our security. I spoke earlier to one of our supply guys who said it was unprecedented that this number -- a full trailer of kegs -- would be illegally taken off a site," a spokeswoman for Diageo said yesterday.

"So obviously, we're taking it extremely seriously. Full investigation ongoing but in terms of our own security procedures that we have in place by finding out what exactly happened and how it happened, and also working with the gardai."

In the run up to Christmas there are more than 250 truck movements in and out of the St James' Gate complex every day. At around four o'clock on Wednesday, a man drove a cab truck into the yard where there were three or four trailers loaded with kegs.

He hooked up one of the trailers containing 180 kegs of Guinness, 180 kegs of Budweiser and 90 kegs of Carlsberg, before calmly driving out the main gate.

The trailer was discovered in Slane in Co Meath yesterday afternoon.Investigating gardai are examining CCTV footage from the St James Gate complex and surrounding areas.

Teacher Charged with Terroristic Threatening

FELTON, Del. - Police charged a teacher on Thursday at a high school in Felton with terroristic threatening. Delaware State Police say on Wednesday detectives completed a four week investigation into a bomb threat that happened at Lake Forest High School. As a result of the investigation, Caroline L. Fluman, 46, of Harrington was formally charged with one count of terroristic threatening a Class F Felony.

Investigators say on Thursday morning, the school resource officer was contacted by a state police detective who was assisting him at the school. Police say the detective had been contacted by a teacher, Fluman who provided him with a note in the form of a computer printout that read "bomb in school everyone dies".

According to police, as the investigation unfolded, the detective and the teacher responded to her classroom at which time another printout came across the classroom printer claiming "There is a bomb in the school no joke". Police say as the school administration was being informed of the situation the teacher handed the detective a third printout indicating that a bomb was in the school.

Investigators say during the schools investigation a fourth note was located by an assistant principal near a trash can located outside the school store. Police say this note was handwritten and said "bomb everybody dies". As a result of the notes being discovered, the school was evacuated and the building was searched by three explosive canines, according to police. Police say no explosive devices were located during the search.

Detectives say during the investigation they learned that the teacher who provided the notes had been captured on video, via the closed circuit security system. Police say the video depicted Fluman in the area of the school store allegedly placing what appeared to be a note behind the trash can.

Police say on Thursday, Fluman turned herself in at Troop 3 and was processed and arraigned. She was released on $2,000 unsecured bond.
Bond? BOND???
According to police, Fluman, a Business Education teacher, has been employed by the district for approximately two years.

One-quarter of Mecca pickpockets either pros or other pilgrims
A recent study concludes that nearly a fourth of pickpocket crimes in the two holy cities are committed by people who are in the cities solely for the purpose of stealing from pilgrims or are pilgrims themselves who are supplementing their trips by theft.
I am shocked, shocked to find Muslims committing crimes against one another at their holiest place!
The report, entitled “The Psychological and Social Impact Pickpockets Have on Pilgrims,” was the result of research by Mahmoud Kasnawi of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques’ Haj Research Institute with the aim of developing strategies to protect pilgrims from such crimes.

The study concluded that 17 percent of the pickpockets in and around the mosque complexes at Makkah and Madinah are there for the sole motive of stealing while 16.5 percent are the pilgrims themselves. The rest are opportunists that steal when the chances arise but aren’t pre-meditating these criminal acts.
Oh, so you're saying that TWO-THIRDS of the pickpockets in Mecca are ordinary Muslims who see someone else with their guard down? Lovely.
The study also contends that 46.5 percent of the pickpockets arrested at the Grand Mosque in Makkah were Egyptians. About one in five people that have been arrested for pick-pocketing are women. About 14 percent of the pickpockets sleep in the Grand Mosque or on the pavements, bridges and tunnels, the study said.

The report underscored the need to minimize the sense of insecurity and loss of mental peace caused by the acts of pickpockets on the pilgrims.

Some gangs use children under the age of 15 to steal from pilgrims. Teenagers account for a third of the pickpockets.
Lovely.
Another finding of the study was that 10 percent of the pickpockets have been for Haj more than once, possibly encouraged to return because of the money they stole during the previous pilgrimage.
This just keeps getting better and better.
The study also said 84 percent of the arrested pickpockets were married while 67 percent of them had their family with them.

While 86 percent of the pickpockets traveled to the Kingdom on their private earnings, the remaining stole the money to pay for the travel expenses.
Thrifty! Allah helps those who help themselves! (to other people's property)
The study noted that most of the thefts take place close to Kaaba at the time of tawaf (circumambulation) to take advantage of the heavily crowded conditions and the fact that pilgrims often carry with them their valuables.

#2  No believing Muslim would steal, because they could lose a limb in this world, and burn forever in the next. The fact that theft prevails in those countries reveals an interesting fact; many "Muslims" only go through the motion of belief in that murder cult. The Islamization movement began only as atheist ideologies were penetrating Muslim culture. It is probably a reaction to the cleric's fear of losing status. We should be shooting clerics as prime GWOT target.

#7  what would be interesting is how many pickpocket criminals there are during the Hajj.

If its only, say 20 or 30, then its not really a big deal. If its 2000 or 3000, then its a serious problem for the pilgrims (who also have to worry about dying of thirst or stampeded).

Pomegranate juice as good as Viagra
LONDON: Men who want to boost their performance in the bedroom should drink pomegranate juice, says a new research. According to the University of California scientists, a daily glass can act like Viagra.

Lead author Dr Christopher Forest says that the juice is rich in antioxidants, which increases blood supply to the genitals. For the study, the team tested 53 men with libido problems. They found that nearly half the men who drank it for a month said they found it easier to perform.

"Pomegranate juice has great potential," the ‘Mirror’ quoted Forest, as saying.

Pomegranates have already been associated with reducing the risk of heart disease and preventing prostate cancer.

Researchers had previously asserted that a daily 0.236 litre glass of the fruit’s juice not only increases the stability period of prostate cancer four-fold, but that the effect is so marked that they believe it can also make it possible for men between the ages of 60 to 75 to live out a full life span without the need for medical treatment, rather than dying from the cancer.

That study was conducted by researchers from the University of California who looked at 50 prostate cancer patients who had surgery or radiotherapy, who had experienced a post-treatment increase of PSA (prostate specific antigen), indicating that cancer was still present in their bodies.

During the study, the researchers measured the men’s PSA levels to calculate how long they took to double. They found that men suffering from prostate cancer with short doubling times are more likely to die from their illness, and that the average doubling time is 15 months.

They noted that consuming a glass of pomegranate juice everyday extended the doubling period to 54 months, and that there was also evidence that the juice was actually killing off prostate cancer cells.

Dr Allan Pantuck, who led the study, said that the improvements had been surprising, and that though it was not a cure, scientists may now be able to stump prostate cancer growth.

MMGW: Canada Predicted To Get Theirs Frozen Off This Winter
After years of warmer-than-normal winters that spurred constant talk of global warming, winter this year is expected to be the coldest in almost 15 years and should remind everyone of what real Canadian cold feels like, Environment Canada said Friday.

With the exception of only small pockets of northern Canada and southwestern Ontario, this December through February is forecast to be one of the harshest winters in recent memory across the country, said senior climatologist David Phillips...

Footprints around Mt.Everest: Abominable Snowman, you there?
KATHMANDU (Reuters) - A U.S.-based television channel investigating the existence of the legendary Yeti in Nepal has found footprints similar to those said to be that of the abominable snowman, the company said on Friday.

A team of nine producers from Destination Truth, armed with infrared cameras, spent a week in the icy Khumbu region where Mount Everest is located and found the footprints on the bank of Manju river at a height of 2,850 metres (9,350 feet). One of the three footprints discovered on Wednesday is about one foot long, or is of similar size and appearance as shown in sketches of the mystical ape-like creature believed to live in snowy caves, the TV company said.

"It is very very similar," Josh Gates, host of the weekly travel adventure television series, told Reuters in Kathmandu after returning from the mountain. "I don't believe it to be (that of) a bear. It is something of a mystery for us," said Gates, 30, an archaeologist by training.

Tales by sherpa porters and guides about the wild and hairy creatures lurking in the Himalayas have seized the imagination of foreign mountain climbers going to Mount Everest since the 1920s.

Several teams have searched for it and some have even claimed to have discovered footprints. But no one has actually seen the creature nor has it been scientifically established that the Yeti exists.

Gates said the footprints on lumps of sandy soil, which would be sent to experts in the United States for analysis, were "relatively fresh left some 24 hours before we found them".

"This print is so pristine, so good that I am very intrigued by this," Gates, flanked by his team members, said adding the findings would prompt more investigation into the Yeti.

Destination Truth chronicles some of the world's notorious crypto-zoological creatures and unexplained phenomena.

Some local sherpas believe that the Himalayas are abodes of strange creatures and consider the Yeti as a protector while others say it is a destroyer. "There is a kind of mysterious creature that lives in the Himalayas," said Ang Tshering Sherpa, chief of Nepal Mountaineering Association in Kathmandu, who hails from the Khumbhu region were Mount Everest is located.

Bahrain: Move to close seven churches 'without permits'
(AKI ) - Seven of the ten Christian churches in the Bahraini capital of Manama may be closed because they have no legal permits. According to the Arab newspaper, al-Sharg al-Awsat, the authorities are considering the move after protests in recent days by residents in an area of the city where several churches are concentrated. Residents are objecting to the presence of a dozen churches in the same area, concerned that many of them are found in the same street as little as eight metres from each other.

However the problem with the seven churches is that they were created by Indian immigrants of Christian faith without authorisation by local authorities. For this reason the Minister for Social Affairs has given the seven churches an ultimatum: obtain the necessary permits or face closure in two weeks. "This position taken has unleashed the anger of several British Christian organisations that have accused Manama of persecuting Christians," the newspaper said.

The Bahrain authorities have stressed that they want to guarantee religious freedom in their national territory, saying that "the churches enjoy great freedom and our people are open and tolerant towards other cultures and societies".

#4  SkidMark, something to ponder:

In 38 BC, 59 earthquakes were reported in Latium (Rome) area alone, during that year. Of course, they did not have seismographs at the time, so it's only quakes that were felt.

The decades before and after 47 BC had fewer quakes counts, but still in mid-40s.

Based on that data, I'd say that quakes decreased substantially over 2 millenia.

Ramsey Clark visits Nandigram
Kolkata: The former U.S. Attorney-General, Ramsey Clark, visited Nandigram on Thursday to see the condition of peasants after the recent violence there. Mr. Clark is participating in an international anti-imperialist conference being held here.

“It was a very moving experience to see the people facing a plight that was brought upon them by their own government,” said Mr. Clark on his return. He was accompanied by Sara Flounders, member, Central Secretariat, of the U.S.-based Workers’ World Party, and Steven Kirschbaum, vice-president, U.S. Steel Workers Associations. Stating that Nandigram clearly represented imperialist designs, Mr. Clarke said that to prevent it, “we must fight unitedly.”

“Power stands in the people, but the question is whether there is will and intelligence to exert that power.” He hoped that the banner of resistance would be held high by the people of Nandigram and carried by the All-India Anti-Imperialist Forum, organisers of the conference, to strengthen the movement.
