‘Matchless champion of the Jewish people': Israeli, US officials mourn Joe Lieberman
[IsraelTimes] Allies and opponents pay tribute to the former Connecticut senator, whose career in public service blazed a path for religious Jews in American politics.
Also a former Democratic vice presidential candidate (with Al Gore in 2000), followed by becoming a former Democrat in 2006, when the Democratic party made it clear they preferred their Jews considerably more liberal and considerably less Jewish. Connecticut's voters, however, liked Joe just fine, and overrode the Democrats to send him back to the Senate as an Independent.
Israeli officials joined their US counterparts in paying tribute to longtime US senator and first Jewish vice presidential nominee Joseph Lieberman, who passed away on Wednesday at the age of 82.
from complications following a fall, it was reported.
In one of his last interviews released just last week, Lieberman heavily criticized US Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer for the speech he gave on the Senate floor calling for early elections in Israel.

Calling the speech “outrageous,” Lieberman accused Schumer of “crossing a diplomatic red line,” and dismissed the speech as “a case of a high elected official in the US taking advantage of a friend.”

’Child murderer’: Jewish woman accosted at Amsterdam home over daughter’s IDF service
[IsraelTimes] Incident, including fliers, is part of an antisemitic wave that is ’spiraling uncontrollably,’ a leader of the local Jewish community says

Three women accosted a Jewish nurse on her doorstep in Amsterdam on Wednesday, calling her a "child murderer" because of her daughter’s service in the Israel Defense Forces, she said.
Just a friendly visit…
The incident in the heavily Jewish suburb of Amstelveen followed weeks of incitement in fliers and social media posts against the nurse over her daughter’s military service in Israel, De Telegraaf daily reported.

One of the women who allegedly accosted the nurse told her that she should be ashamed of herself, adding "I don’t understand why you are still here in the Netherlands," the nurse said.
..to convey friendly advice.
Speaking to De Telegraaf anonymously, the nurse added: "It feels like in World War II when the addresses of Jews were given out."

The intimidation followed the surfacing online of a video of the nurse’s daughter in IDF uniform. Fliers advertising her address in Amstelveen and accusing her of complicity in "child murder" began appearing around her neighborhood in February, with online banners bearing the same message, she said.

People flying Paleostinian flags came looking for the woman at her workplace, too, she added.

"Residents beware, a child murderer lives in the neighborhood. This genocidal maniac returned from her murderous activities in Israel and will be soon be tried," the text of one flier reads, featuring pictures of the nurse’s daughter. "Her mother sent her bitch daughter to kill babies, she is also an accomplice," read the text, which included the address, workplace, and names of the two women.

Naomi Mestrum, the director of the Center for Information and Documentation on Israel, the Dutch Jewish community’s watchdog on antisemitism, told De Telegraaf that the three women "specifically targeted" the nurse in an organized action.

The woman is planning to complain to police shortly, Mestrum said, but "her feeling of safety has been seriously compromised."

In an interview published Thursday in De Telegraaf, Chanan Hertzberger, the chairman of the Central Jewish Organization, an umbrella group representing Dutch Jewry, called on the government to do more to protect its Jewish citizens from antisemitism, which he said is spiraling uncontrollably following the outbreak of war between Israel and Hamas, a contraction of the Arabic words for "frothing at the mouth",, sparked by the terror group’s October 7 onslaught in southern Israel.

"My son was beaten up after soccer practice. When they go out, Jewish youngsters are accosted. Our children are not safe in their educational institutions," Hertzberger said.

"We’ve had enough of this abuse. We are normal Dutch citizens and that’s how we demand to be treated," he said.

The intimidation is reaching "new lows," he added, citing a protest action by pro-Paleostinian demonstrators who interrupted a concert by Lenny Kuhr, a Dutch-Jewish singer, on Sunday in Waalwijk near Rotterdam.

One protester called Kuhr, who has children living in Israel, "a terrorist, a Zionist" before being escorted out of the venue.

German Soccer Player Ruediger Breaks Silence After Gesture Linking Him To ISIS
[MARCA] Germany's Real Madrid player gives details about the allegation he made against a journalist after accusing him of being in ISIS.

Antonio Rüdiger,Real Madrid's Germany international centre-back, has filed a complaint with the Berlin public prosecutor's office against journalist Julian Reichelt for linking a gesture in a photo of him to the terrorist group ISIS.

"For all those who do not want to recognise Antonio Rüdiger's Islamist salute as an Islamist salute: the Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution calls this gesture "the ISIS finger" and sees the index finger as a clear sign of Islamism," Reichelt posted on his social media.
To be fair, it need not be ISIS. Any other Moslem supremacist version of the faith uses it as well, and even former President Obama, when speaking on the subject, as a private signal to his Moslem viewers that Islam will reign supreme, inshallah.
The image Reichelt complains about is an innocent post by Rüdiger as a greeting to Ramadan.

"May the Almighty accept our fasting and prayers". Now, the defender has given a word in 'Bild' where he explains what happened.

"The gesture I used is called a tawhid finger. In Islam, this is considered a symbol of the unity and oneness of God. The gesture is widespread among Muslims all over the world and only in the last few days has the Federal Ministry of the Interior classified it as non-problematic," he says.

RUDIGER ACKNOWLEDGES HIS RELIGION, BUT GIVES SOME NUANCES
"As a devout Muslim, I practise my faith, but I firmly distance myself from any kind of extremism and accusations of Islamism. Violence and terrorism are absolutely unacceptable. I stand for peace and tolerance.
Peace or submission? And does his tolerance run in both directions? The translation has him describing himself as an Islamist, not a simple Moslem.
Different faiths live together in his family. "Many of my family members belong to different religions. However, we respect each other and celebrate religious holidays together. Respect and tolerance are fundamental principles that we all stand for in our family," he added.

"However, I also recognise that due to insufficient attention, I have given third parties the opportunity to deliberately misinterpret my publication in order to divide and polarise. But I will not provide a platform for division and radicalisation, which is why I have decided to make a clear statement after our two successful international matches.

"At the same time, I will not allow myself to be insulted and denigrated as an Islamist. That's why I decided to file a report," adds the German national team player.

Rüdiger breaks his silence in 'Bild' after gesture linking him to ISIS: "I have given third parties the opportunity to misinterpret".

"It's all about propaganda and division; I will always resolutely defend myself against this. I hope this clarification will help to clear up misunderstandings and bring the truth to light. I would also like to thank the DFB, who supported me all the way in this matter," he concluded.

#2  These soccer/football federations are weird. A few years ago, either the FA or UEFA threw a fit about the English teams wearing a poppy in commemoration of the Great War, believing, IIRC, it was a political statement.

But I guess kneeling before kick-off and wearing BLM patches or rainbow crap on their kits was not political. Give me a break.

war as protesters interrupted the event.

Biden, who traveled with Obama on Air Force One to New York, took part in a discussion with Clinton moderated by "The Late Show" host Stephen Colbert at the iconic Radio City Music Hall in front of thousands of guests. Organizers say the event raised more than $25 million for Biden’s US reelection campaign.

But the fundraiser was punctuated by several protests inside the massive auditorium, with attendees rising at several different moments to shout over the discussion, referencing Biden’s backing of Israel in its war with Hamas
...the braying voice of Islamic Resistance®,...
.

"Shame on you, Joe Biden!" one yelled.

Obama and Clinton offered a presidential perspective of the Gaza crisis that stressed the political realities of being in the White House.

A president needs to be able to support Israel at the same time as fighting for Paleostinians to have more access to food, medical supplies and a future state, they said.

"It’s a lonely seat," Obama said. "One of the realities of the presidency is that the world has a lot of joy and beauty, but it also has a lot of tragedy and cruelty."

People "understandably, oftentimes, want to feel a certain purity in terms of how those decisions are made," he said. "But a president doesn’t have that luxury."

When a protester inside the theater interrupted Obama, the former president snapped back: "You can’t just talk and not listen... that’s what the other side does."

The pair of former presidents also defended Biden’s handling of the economy, which has been getting low ratings in national polls.

Clinton said Biden’s economic numbers have significantly outpaced Trump’s administration.

"I believe in keeping score," Clinton said. "He’s been good for America" and deserves another term.

Before the event, the three leaders’ motorcade passed hundreds of protesters demonstrating against Israel’s war with Hamas in Gaza, another sign that some young voters and other progressives who voted for Biden in 2020 are furious about his staunch backing of Israel in its response to the October 7 Hamas attacks, in which members of the terror group launched a massive cross-border assault, killing close to 1,200 people, mostly civilians, and kidnapped 253, more than half of whom remain in Gaza.

LIZZO, $500,000 TICKETS
The event included musicians Queen Latifah, Lizzo, Ben Platt, Cynthia Erivo and Lea Michele performing. Some high-paying attendees had their pictures taken with the three presidents by celebrity photographer Annie Leibovitz.

Former president Donald Trump
...Oh, noze! Not him!...
, Biden’s Republican challenger in November’s election, was in the New York area on Thursday as well, attending a wake for a slain New York City policeman.

Biden, 81, has faced concerns about his age and fitness for a second four-year term. Recent Rooters/Ipsos polls show his approval rating at 40 percent and in a tight race with Trump, 77, ahead of the November 5 election.

The support shown by Biden’s predecessors was meant to demonstrate party unity and project fundraising strength.

Tickets for Thursday’s Biden event cost between $250 and $500,000, according to a Democrat familiar with the planning. More than 5,000 people were expected to attend.

Biden’s high-profile allies are seeking to shore up his support despite opinion polls showing tepid enthusiasm for the president and in contrast to a Republican Party where many major figures oppose Trump.

Biden showed flashes of humor at the event. He referenced former president Harry Truman’s advice that if you wanted a friend in Washington, get a dog. Biden quipped that he got one and it bit a Secret Service agent. The president’s dog, Commander, left the White House last year after a series of biting incidents.

The event closed with each of the men donning aviator sunglasses, Biden’s trademark.

"Dark Brandon is real," Biden bellowed, referencing a meme about himself.

TRUMP IN LONG ISLAND
Earlier on Long Island, east of New York, Trump attended a wake for Jonathan Diller, the policeman who was bumped off during a routine traffic stop earlier this week in the city.

"These things can’t happen. We need law and order," Trump, surrounded by mourning uniformed officers, told news hounds gathered outside a funeral home in Massapequa.

Trump has sought to make supporting police a focal point of his campaign while criticizing law enforcement that targets him.

He faces four criminal trials for his efforts to undermine the 2020 election, his mishandling of classified documents, and his involvement in a "hush money" scheme involving a porn star. He was fined hundreds of millions of dollars for overstating his net worth to lenders. He says he is innocent.

Biden has been routinely outraising Trump and taking in more money than his rival in big donations as well as in small donations under $200. Biden’s reelection effort raised over $53 million in February and $10 million in the 24 hours following his March 7 address to Congress.

Trump aims to raise $33 million in an April 6 fundraiser, a source familiar with the Republican’s plans told Rooters.

A Trump campaign adviser said on Thursday the candidate won’t be able to match Biden’s totals, blaming the disparity on the Democrat’s "billionaire" supporters and painting a picture of a Trump campaign fueled by grassroots, working-class supporters.

Jewish Democratic group endorses primary challenger to NY Rep. Jamaal Bowman
[IsraelTimes] Jewish Democratic Council of America and AIPAC have both endorsed bid by George Latimer, as incumbent walks back remarks that claims of Hamas sex abuse were ‘propaganda’

The Jewish Democratic Council of America, the leading Jewish organization affiliated with the Democratic Party
...every time you hear the phrase white people, white supremacy, white anything but paint, you're listening to a Democrat. Ask him/her/it to reimagine something for you; they do that a lot, though not well. They can hear a dog whistle a mile or two away. They invented the spoils system and Tammany Hall, and inspired the addition of the word (Thomas) Nasty to the English language. They want to stop continental drift and repeal the law of unintended side effects...
, endorsed George Latimer in his bid to unseat New York Rep. Jamaal Firebug Bowman
...sleazy Dem politician and educator, U.S. representative for New York's safe 16th congressional district since 2021. On September 30, 2023, while House Dems were desperately attempting to delay a vote that avoided shutting the government down so they could blame it on the Pubs, Bowman pulled a fire alarm in the Cannon House Office Building, causing the building to be evacuated. Bowman told reporters he thought it was a doorknob or something. Capitol Police released a statement saying they were investigating the fire alarm incident, and maybe a few rubes somewhere expected something to come of it. Republicans introduced a motion to expel Bowman from the House but that evaporated too. Bowman issued a statement saying they were Nazis. Bowman is a member of The Squad, a faction of like-minded subversives...
in the upcoming primary.

It also endorsed Wesley Bell in his campaign to unseat Rep. Cori Bush
...politician, nurse, pastor, and Black Lives Matter activist serving as the U.S. representative for Missouri's 1st congressional district, since 2021, and probably all years after that until she dies. The district includes all of the city of St. Louis and most of northern St. Louis County. There are few normal people to be found there. Soon after being sworn in, Bush joined The Squad, a group of Socialist Dem lawmakers intent on wrecking the country. She posted a photo on Twitter of herself, the four original Squad members, and another new member, Jamaal Fire Alarm Bowman, with the caption "Squad up."...
in Missouri, marking the first time that the Jewish Democrats have endorsed primary challengers to Democratic incumbents.

Both incumbents have been vocal critics of Israel. In New York’s 16th district, which covers southern Westchester County and a sliver of the northern Bronx and is home to a sizable Jewish community, the Israel-Hamas
...a contraction of the Arabic words for "frothing at the mouth",...
war has become a focal point of the closely watched campaign.

Latimer, a centrist who serves as Westchester County executive, has been firmly supportive of Israel since Hamas’s October 7 attack, when faceless myrmidons murdered close to 1,200 people, mostly civilians, across southern Israel, and kidnapped 253. Bowman, who is a member of the Squad, the group of progressive Democratic members of Congress, has been harshly critical of the Israeli military campaign in Gazoo
...Hellhole adjunct to Israel and Egypt's Sinai Peninsula, inhabited by Gazooks. The place was acquired in the wake of the 1967 War and then presented to Paleostinian control in 2006 by Ariel Sharon, who had entered his dotage. It is currently ruled with an iron fist by Hamas with about the living conditions you'd expect. It periodically attacks the Hated Zionist Entity whenever Iran needs a ruckus created or the hard boyz get bored, getting thumped by the IDF in return. The ruling turbans then wave the bloody shirt and holler loudly about oppression and disproportionate response...
, accusing Israel of "genocide."

The Jewish Democratic Council of America announced its endorsement of Latimer on Thursday alongside 21 other candidates, including New Yorkers Mondaire Jones in the 17th district and Josh Riley in the 19th district.

In a statement, the council’s chair-elect, Susie Stern, called Latimer an ally to Jewish New Yorkers who "resolutely stands behind our community when challenging moments arise, including the current one."

Latimer hailed the council’s endorsement as well as the group’s support for causes including supporting Israel, fighting antisemitism, combating gun violence and protecting child sacrifice abortion rights.

"As we continue to build our grassroots campaign, their support will be vital for making sure every voice is heard in this critical election," Latimer said in a statement.

Latimer entered the race in December after months of speculation that he would mount a challenge to Bowman, who was first elected in 2020 and after receiving encouragement from Jewish supporters. He has also nabbed an endorsement from the pro-Israel lobby AIPAC. The Democratic Majority for Israel, an advocacy group, applauded his entry into the race.

Latimer has taken a more pro-Israel stance in line with more centrist Democrats. He visited Israel in November on a trip organized by the Westchester Jewish Council. He said earlier this month that he supports a temporary ceasefire that would lead to the release of the hostages, in line with the Democratic party leadership.

Both candidates raised around $1.4 million in the last quarter of 2023.

In February, Latimer accused Bowman of taking money from Hamas while speaking at a campaign event. Bowman threatened a defamation lawsuit in response.

Bowman, a former middle school principal, unseated longtime incumbent Eliot Engel, who is Jewish, in 2020. His ties with many Jewish constituents had frayed before October 7 due to his criticism of Israel. He angered Jewish voters early in the war by urging a ceasefire on October 16 in a statement that did not mention Hamas, terrorism or Israeli hostages.

The liberal Israel lobby J Street rescinded its endorsement of Bowman in January over his rhetoric on the war. Bowman has aimed his fire at AIPAC and publicly feuded with it online.

Bowman’s remarks on Israel have continued to dog him. This week, footage surfaced by Politico showed Bowman at a November rally expressing doubt that Israeli women had been raped on October 7, calling the allegations "propaganda." In a statement to Politico this week, Bowman walked back those comments.

"The UN confirmed that Hamas committed rape and sexual violence, a reprehensible fact that I condemn entirely," the statement said, noting that Bowman voted for a resolution condemning rape and sexual violence by Hamas. "So let me be clear, and ensure my words are not twisted: I always stand against sexual violence in all forms and stand for peace for all."

In November, Bowman held a meeting with Jewish constituents focused on antisemitism. There was a small protest ahead of the event, though two participants told the New York Jewish Week at the time that the meeting was productive and Bowman appeared attentive to their concerns. Ahead of the meeting, two prominent rabbis in the area said most of the community would decline to attend the event.

Separate from the war in Gaza, the congressman has faced other controversies in recent months. In January, the Daily Beast reported that Bowman had promoted 9/11 conspiracy theories on his personal blog in 2011. The House formally censured Bowman in December for pulling a fire alarm at the US Capitol, which he said was an accident.

'JI doesn't take decisions under pressure': Liaqat Baloch
[GOE.TV] Jamaat-e-Islami
...The Islamic Society, founded in 1941 in Lahore by Maulana Sayyid Abul Ala Maududi, aka The Great Apostosizer. The Jamaat opposed the independence of Bangladesh but has operated an independent branch there since 1975. It maintains close ties with international Mohammedan groups such as the Moslem Brotherhood. the Taliban, and al-Qaeda. The Jamaat's objectives are the establishment of a pure Islamic state, governed by Sharia law. It is distinguished by its xenophobia, and its opposition to Westernization, capitalism, socialism, secularism, and liberalist social mores...
leader Liaquat Baloch Friday refuted claims made by Pakistain Tehrik-e-Insaf
...a political party in Pakistan. PTI was founded by former Pakistani cricket captain and philanthropist Imran Khan. The party's slogan is Justice, Humanity and Self Esteem, each of which is open to widely divergent interpretations....
(PTI) Chairman Barrister Gohar Khan regarding his party being "under pressure" and their failed meeting plans in Islamabad for talks on government formation following the February 8 general elections.

After the polls, the two parties were reportedly mulling to unite with PTI's successful independent candidates looking to join other parties in the parliament, so that they could jointly form a government in the provinces and Centre where they could have possessed a majority number of parliamentarians.

Gohar, however, claimed that the JI was "under pressure" not to talk to PTI on the said matter and the party's leadership was avoiding meetings with him.

The PTI politician's comment came during his appearance in Geo News programme 'Capital Talk' in which he said that the JI leaders did not attend a meeting that was decided to take place between him, Liaquat Baloch and other leaders of both parties.

PA’s Abbas announces new cabinet, with little-known figures taking key roles
[IsraelTimes] Interior minister from previous government retains position; incoming Jerusalem affairs minister Ashraf al-Awar ran as Fatah candidate in postponed 2021 elections

The Paleostinian Authority has announced the formation of a new cabinet as it faces international pressure to reform.

President the ineffectual Mahmoud Abbas
...aka Abu Mazen, a graduate of the prestigious unaccredited Patrice Lumumba University in Moscow with a doctorate in Holocaust Denial. While no Yasser Arafat, he has his own brand of evil, just a little more lowercase....
, who has led the PA for nearly two decades and remains in overall control, announced the new government in a presidential decree on Thursday. None of the incoming ministers is a well-known figure.

Abbas tapped Mohammad Mustafa, a longtime adviser, to be prime minister earlier this month. Mustafa, a politically independent US-educated economist, vowed to form a technocratic government and create an independent trust fund to help rebuild Gazoo
...Hellhole adjunct to Israel and Egypt's Sinai Peninsula, inhabited by Gazooks. The place was acquired in the wake of the 1967 War and then presented to Paleostinian control in 2006 by Ariel Sharon, who had entered his dotage. It is currently ruled with an iron fist by Hamaswith about the living conditions you'd expect. It periodically attacks the Hated Zionist Entity whenever Iran needs a ruckus created or the hard boyz get bored, getting thumped by the IDF in return. The ruling turbans then wave the bloody shirt and holler loudly about oppression and disproportionate response...
. Mustafa will also serve as foreign minister.

Interior Minister Ziad Hab al-Rieh is a member of Abbas’s secular Fatah movement and held the same portfolio in the previous government. The Interior Ministry oversees the security forces. The incoming minister for Jerusalem affairs, Ashraf al-Awar, had registered to run as a Fatah candidate in planned elections in 2021 that were canceled.

At least five of the incoming 23 ministers are from Gaza originally, but it was not immediately clear if they are still in the territory.

The PA administers parts of the West Bank. Its forces were driven from Gaza when Hamas, a regional Iranian catspaw, seized power in 2007, and it has no power there.

It has little popular support or legitimacy among Paleostinians, in part because it has not held elections in 18 years. Its policy of cooperating with Israel on security matters is extremely unpopular and has led many Paleostinians to view it as a subcontractor of military rule.

Opinion polls in recent years have consistently found that a vast majority of Paleostinians want the 88-year-old Abbas to resign.

The United States has called for a revitalized PA to administer postwar Gaza ahead of eventual statehood.

Israel has rejected that idea, accusing it of failing to condemn Hamas’s attacks and encouraging terror through incitement in education and the payment of stipends to tossed in the slammer
I ain't sayin' nuttin' widdout me mout'piece!
and slain Lions of Islam and their families. It says it will maintain open-ended security control over Gaza and partner with Paleostinians who are not affiliated with the PA or Hamas. It’s unclear who in Gaza would be willing to take on such a role.

Hamas has rejected the formation of the new government as illegitimate, calling instead for all Paleostinian factions, including Fatah, to form a power-sharing government ahead of national elections.

It has warned Paleostinians in Gaza against cooperating with Israel to administer the territory, saying anyone who does so will be treated as a collaborator, which is understood as a death threat.

In ‘historic' step, High Court orders halt to yeshiva funds for students eligible for draft
[IsraelTimes] In a step that could have deep political and societal ramifications, the High Court of Justice issued an interim order Thursday evening barring the government from providing funds to ultra-Orthodox yeshivas for students eligible for IDF enlistment — as the legal framework for deferring their military service will no longer exist.

A government resolution from June 2023 instructing the IDF to temporarily not draft Haredi students despite the expiration of a law governing the matter will itself expire at midnight on March 31.

The court decision, which goes into effect April 1, comes after the government delayed for days the submission of a proposal to the court for plans to increase ultra-Orthodox military enlistment, and constitutes a sharp indication from the judges that their patience with repeated attempts to put off decisions on the matter is finally running out.
