DV,

I think at this point SecDef's attitude is literally, "I'll resign when I'm dead."

Government Corruption
JD Vance says Ukraine funding includes hidden impeachment clause against President Trump
[Post Millenial] "They have drafted a new law that again requires Trump to spend money on Ukraine. If he negotiates an end to the war, as he has promised to do, they will undoubtedly argue that he has broken the law."

In an op-ed published in the early hours on Monday, Senator JD Vance criticized the $95 million foreign aid package being considered by the Senate, the passage of which he said could see a second Trump term being "collateral damage."

"For months, I have been confident that Donald Trump would be reelected as president," Vance wrote in the American Conservative. "But this is how you snatch defeat from the jaws of victory. The Republican establishment is going to war for more Ukraine money. They don’t care if a second Trump term is collateral damage."

Vance noted that the bill includes a provision, a "kill switch for the next Trump presidency," in which funding for Ukraine would be required "well into the next presidential term." Vance explained earlier in the piece that the border security part of the bill, which was killed last week, would have constrained "Trump’s border enforcement if he was ever elected president."

"It gets worse," Vance continued. "Back in 2019, Democrats articulated a novel theory of impeachment, based on Trump’s refusal to spend money from the USAI - Ukraine Security Assistance Initiative."

Vance explained that five years later "they have drafted a new law that again requires Trump to spend money on Ukraine. If he negotiates an end to the war, as he has promised to do, they will undoubtedly argue that he has broken the law."

With less than a year before the 2024 election, "Ukraine-obsessive Republicans have already given the Democrats a predicate to impeach him. Slava Ukraini, America be damned."

#2  So they are trying to pass laws against Trump, specifically. Damn, will they ever learn. He will do it anyway and let the courts sort it out.

Home Front: Politix
Georgia Gov. Kemp continues to spew anti-Trump rhetoric
[NBC] LEXINGTON, Va. — Georgia’s GOP Gov. Brian Kemp, once seen as a potential 2024 presidential rival to former President Donald Trump, on Saturday offered some of his sharpest rhetoric yet against the Republican front-runner.

"This election should be about results, not personalities ... because if this general election becomes a debate about who can outlast the other 80 year-old politician, the American people will lose," Kemp said in a speech to students at Washington and Lee University’s Mock Convention in Lexington, Virginia.

Kemp didn’t explicitly name Trump in his speech before the convention — which every four years seeks to emulate a real presidential nominating convention for the party currently out of the White House — but he spoke about the need for Republicans to offer a positive vision to voters rather than simply running against President Joe Biden’s record.

"Our message to voters must be about what we’re going to do for the country if they give us the keys back to the White House," he told students.

Without delving into specifics, the Georgia governor also railed against the "fringe elements" of political parties.

"We have leaders unwilling to stand up to the fringe elements of their own parties or because they’re scared of getting called out on prime-time Fox News or MSNBC. Well, I’ll tell you, I’ve been there, folks, and I’ve lived to tell the tale. Because at the end of the day, this election is not about any one person, politician or political issue," he said.

Kemp also urged members of his party to abandon their focus on the 2020 election, which Trump still falsely claims was stolen from him despite election officials saying votes were secure.

Energy beat: Joe's 'Unwise' LNG-Export Stall
[NYPOST] Team Biden “has halted pending approvals of exports of liquefied natural gas while it studies the economic and environmental effects of shipping such fuel abroad”; that “ill-timed and unwise” decision is “unlikely to advance the president’s climate-change ambitions and undermines the effort to defeat Russia in Ukraine,” warn Bloomberg’s editors. “The primary motivation” was “election-year politics.” Yet short-term it will force buyers to “rely more heavily on dirtier fuels, notably coal.” And the Russia-Ukraine war makes it “look even more ill-advised.” As the move pushes European nations “to source more fuel from elsewhere, including Russia” — and so “undermines Europe’s willingness to resist Russian aggression.” Conclusion: “Biden’s LNG initiative is bad politics and worse policy.”
