Ukrainian Perspective: Invasion of Ukraine: January 11, 2024
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited.

Worth noting, korrespondent.net has compiled its Invasion of Ukraine series into separate months, beginning May 9th, 2023. Linked in the title

[Korrespondent] 22:57 The US Department of Defense does not have reliable evidence that American weapons transferred to Ukraine fell into third hands, said Pentagon spokesman Patrick Ryder. At the same time, he added that the United States “sees how Russia is constantly trying to spread disinformation to the contrary.”

22:33 The United States has stopped supplying weapons and military equipment to Ukraine due to a lack of budgetary funds for such programs, said White House National Security Council coordinator John Kirby: “Yes. We issued the last package of available supplies for which we had funding to support.”

22:10 Zelensky predicts that Russia will prepare an offensive before Putin’s elections in order to demonstrate success: “They want some tactical victories before the elections and will prepare for something global after.”

21:29 Zelensky said at a press conference in Riga that the Defense Forces destroyed 26 Russian helicopters in one day with the help of Western long-range weapons. However, he did not specify when this happened. “We destroyed 26 helicopters in 24 hours. Twelve aircraft that were taking off, which then fired missiles, against which these systems worked. We destroyed 12 at a time. It was just something.”

Journalists suggest that regarding helicopters, the president probably had in mind the attacks on the airfields of Lugansk and Berdyansk with ATACMS missiles on October 18. And regarding the destruction of 12 aircraft at a time, we are probably talking about an attack on the airfield in Saki.

20:36 The Pentagon said in its report that military aid to Ukraine was poorly monitored and controlled, writes BBC News. The US Defense Department inspector general found that agency officials and diplomats in Washington and Europe failed to quickly or fully account for all of the nearly 40,000 weapons sent to Ukraine.

The report said U.S. officials did not properly track more than $1 billion worth of man-portable missile systems, kamikaze drones and night vision equipment. However, the document does not contain evidence that any weapons were used for other purposes.

20:27 Among all electronic components imported by the Russian Federation for the production of weapons, 44% are developed by Western companies, according to a report by the Kiev School of Economics and the McFaul-Ermak group. We are mainly talking about products from American brands Intel, Analog Devices, AMD and Texas Instruments. At the same time, the German Siemens is the leader among suppliers of numerically controlled machine tools. Analysts note that most military components are produced at these companies' factories in third countries such as China, making it easier for the Russians to build sanctions-busting schemes.

20:23 The United States introduced new sanctions against Russia - in particular, the Ashuluksky training ground and the Vladimir advanced military research complex were subject to restrictions, the US Ministry of Finance reported. The United States also introduced restrictions against the general director of the State Airline 224th Separate Aviation Detachment, Vladimir Mikheychik, which is a subsidiary of the Russian Ministry of Defense. In addition, the United States imposed sanctions against three Russian Il-76MD heavy military transport aircraft.

19:58 The House of Moscow in Riga will be transferred to the ownership of Latvia, after which the funds will be transferred to Ukraine, said the country's President Edgars Rinkevichs. He added that “other Russian assets” are also planned to be used to help Ukraine.

Regarding military assistance, Rinkevičs pointed out, in particular, the possibility of producing “cheap drones in Latvia, which are very effective and so necessary for the Ukrainian military.” According to him, Latvia leads a “coalition of drones” within the Ramstein format. In addition, it is possible to purchase 155-mm caliber ammunition for Ukraine.

Rinkevičs also said that Latvia has prepared the next package of military assistance for Ukraine, which will include, in particular, self-propelled howitzers, ammunition for artillery systems, anti-tank and anti-aircraft systems and ammunition for them, off-road vehicles, drones, communications equipment, generators, winter uniforms and Dr. Rinkevichas emphasized that the package was formed based on the current needs of the Ukrainian Defense Forces. In addition, Latvia plans to train 3,000 Ukrainian military personnel by 2024 and will continue rehabilitation projects for Ukrainian military and border guards.

19:24 The Ministry of Defense has already prepared a new version of the draft law on mobilization, and soon it will be submitted for approval by the government, said the head of the department, Rustem Umerov. He emphasized that the military needs rest, those released from captivity have a choice whether to remain in the army, and conscripts need to return home. The new edition includes all proposals agreed upon with deputies at meetings of the Committee on National Security, Defense and Intelligence, the minister added.

19:15 Prosecutor General Andrei Kostin confirmed that Russia has already used missiles from the DPRK against Ukraine: “As for North Korea, the other day we received the first evidence of the use by the Russian army of missiles manufactured in this country. The results of a preliminary scientific and technical examination confirm that The missile fired at central Kharkov on January 2 is a short-range missile developed by North Korea." A comprehensive commission examination is currently underway, which should finally confirm this fact.

18:29 North Korea is turning into the main ally and supplier for Russia in the war with Ukraine. Moreover, in South Korea they say that Pyongyang will only expand the line of supplies to the aggressor. What is known about the new DPRK missiles for the Russians - in the material Main Supplier .

17:56 The operational situation in the East remains difficult, the enemy continues to attack in the Kupyansky, Limansky and Bakhmutsky directions, said the commander of the Ground Forces of the Ukrainian Armed Forces Alexander Syrsky. In particular, the Russians are not abandoning attempts to oust Ukrainian units from the Kupyansky forest and capture Sinkovka in order to ultimately blockade Kupyansk.

In the Liman direction, the enemy is trying to push Ukrainian troops beyond the Black Stallion River. Serebryansky forestry continues to be one of the areas of concentration of the main efforts of the Russian Army. In this direction, the enemy is unsuccessfully trying to attack Ukrainian positions in the directions of Dibrova, Torskoye and Dibrova, Yampol. The Russian Federation is also preparing to resume offensive operations in the Seversk direction.

In the Bakhmut area, the Russians are making every effort to reach the border of the Seversky Donets - Donbass canal. From the north of Bakhmut, the enemy is carrying out assault operations in the direction of Bogdanovka, trying to create favorable conditions for an attack on Chasov Yar and restore the lost position in the areas of the cascade of lakes east of Kleshcheevka and Kurdyumovka.

17:18 On February 27, the European Commission may publish an assessment of progress with Ukraine’s European integration reforms, on which the actual start of accession negotiations depends, said Radio Liberty editor for European affairs Rikard Jozwiak.

17:13 In the Belgorod region, a drone damaged an infrastructure power supply facility in the village of Tishanka, Volokonovsky district - about 50 households remain without electricity, Governor Vyacheslav Gladkov said.

16:52 After visits to Estonia and Lithuania, Zelensky arrived in Latvia, said the country’s Foreign Minister Krisjanis Karins.

16:37 Russia has used all types of weapons against Ukraine, “for now except nuclear,” said Deputy Head of the Russian Security Council Dmitry Medvedev: “A series of recent intensive and effective strikes on enemy military targets in Ukraine, which were carried out by the Russian Armed Forces, confirms the successful and effective work of our military-industrial complex throughout 2023. Moreover, as you know, different carriers with different contents were used, except perhaps nuclear. For now."

He also stated that Ukraine’s attempts to destroy launchers on Russian territory with Western missiles would be grounds for Moscow to use nuclear weapons.

15:58 The Russians shelled Ivanovka, Kherson region - a residential building was destroyed, one person was killed, said the head of the OVA Alexander Prokudin. The Russian army also fired at residential buildings in Kherson, one person was wounded. Over the previous 24 hours, three people were injured as a result of Russian shelling in the region.

15:46 On the morning of January 10, in the Semenovskaya community of the Chernihiv region, the Russian DRG shot at a car with a civilian man, the head of the Novgorod-Severskaya RVA Sergei Sergienko told Suspilny. According to him, this happened between the villages of Gremyachka and Leonovka - from there it is 500 meters to the Russian border. The man managed to take his child on a bus to Semenovka and was returning to Kostobobrov when the enemy DRG broke through the border.

15:07 The speaker of the European Commission on defense industry issues, Johanna Bernsel, said that EU countries will be able to produce the promised million ammunition for Ukraine before the spring of this year. “European industry already has a production capacity well in excess of a million artillery shells, and we will reach this goal before spring,” she assured.

The official representative of the EU foreign policy service, Peter Stano, recalled that as of the end of December, more than 300 thousand ammunition had been delivered to Ukraine, and 3,300 missiles were delivered from existing stocks. “We also have at least 180 thousand shells that have already been ordered as of the end of December, and this number is increasing according to contracts,” he added.

In turn, Zelensky called on Estonia to put pressure on the EU to speed up the supply of a million ammunition to Ukraine.

14:49 Zelensky said that he “has questions” for Ukrainians of military age who illegally went abroad: “If they are of military age, then they should help Ukraine and they should be in Ukraine. And I’m not talking about that now , who should be at the front and who should not be at the front. If you are in Ukraine and you are not at the front, then you work. Wherever you work, we treat every person with respect. And if you work and pay taxes , then you also protect the state... If you are abroad and you are of conscription age, and you are not at the front and do not pay taxes, and traveled outside the law, then there are questions.”

According to the president, for one Ukrainian military man “there are 6-8 taxpayers.”

14:15 Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjártó said that on January 29 he will meet with his Ukrainian counterpart Dmitry Kuleba in Uzhgorod to discuss preparations for the meeting between Orban and Zelensky.

14:11 Turkey, Bulgaria and Romania signed an agreement to jointly combat sea mines that have threatened shipping in the Black Sea since the start of the war in Ukraine. Turkish Defense Minister Yasar Guler said the memorandum calls for the creation of a mine action task force between the three NATO allies to combat drifting mines.

13:26 The mobilization bill was returned for revision, said the head of the Servant of the People faction, David Arakhamia, following the results of a closed meeting with the military command and a conciliation council. According to him, not all provisions of the bill can be supported - “some provisions directly violate human rights, others are not optimally formulated.”

13:18 Estonia will provide assistance to Ukraine in the amount of 1.2 billion euros by 2027, the country's President Alar Karis said at a press conference in Tallinn. He also emphasized that Estonia opposes restrictions on attacks on Russia with weapons that Western partners transfer to Ukraine.

13:10 In the Chechen city of Shali, for unknown reasons, the headquarters of the 70th regiment of the Russian Army completely burned down, Russian public pages write. This regiment is now fighting in the Zaporozhye region. Journalist Andrei Tsaplienko notes that foreign mercenaries, including Nepalese citizens, are actively sent to serve in this regiment. In a fire at the regiment's headquarters, all documents were allegedly burned - that is, it will now be very difficult to prove that hundreds of mercenaries from Nepal and other countries serve in the regiment.

12:59 At a press conference in Tallinn, Zelensky confirmed Russia’s use of North Korean ballistic missiles: “There are large purchases of drones and suicide bombers from Iran, and they are also negotiating missiles, until they have reached an agreement. They also received more than a million artillery shells from the North Korea, and we also saw examples of some missiles."

According to the president, Russia is faced with a shortage of weapons, and therefore a pause in the war will benefit Moscow, not Kiev: “Because we understand the volumes, how many drones and artillery they produce today per day. We see what they lack, we see a large shortage of drones, both with artillery and with missiles. They do not have time. Yes, the world also does not have time to fill the warehouses of Ukraine. But the world today is helping Ukraine, and Russia has a deficit. Give a pause, take a risk, give 2-3 years "Russia - it can then run over us, we wouldn't risk it like that. And thank God that all this is being decided in Ukraine. And therefore there will definitely be no pauses in Russia's favor."

12:28 Ukraine “doesn’t have enough resources” to shoot down all Russian S-300 missiles, said Air Force Speaker Yuri Ignat: “It’s clear that we don’t have enough to shoot down the thousands of S-300 missiles that Russia now has in its warehouses.” means. Therefore, the best method is to destroy these launchers in the territory from which the missiles are launched. It is necessary to have sufficiently high-precision powerful weapons to reduce the number of those batteries, S-300 divisions, which Russia today has positioned along the front line."

11:46 North Korea may transfer new types of tactical guided missiles to Russia in addition to the proposed supply of KN-23 short-range ballistic missiles, South Korean Defense Minister Shin Won-sik said. According to his estimates, at the end of December, the DPRK handed over to Russia about 5,000 containers with weapons, which can hold about 2.3 million 152 mm caliber shells or about 400 thousand 122 mm caliber artillery shells.

The minister also expressed concern about Russia's likely provision of technological assistance for North Korea's weapons program in exchange for arms trade, including Pyongyang's spy satellite.

11:27 The Ukrainian Black Sea corridor has actually reached the pre-war volume of supplies, said Navy Speaker Dmitry Pletenchuk. “We have already crossed the bar of 500 ships and more than 10 million tons of cargo,” he noted, clarifying that the majority of cargo is Ukrainian grain. Pletenchuk emphasized that the grain agreement with Russia with the participation of Turkey is not an alternative to the trade route that was organized by Ukraine through military means. He recalled that even with the grain agreement in place, the Russian Federation also attacked the port infrastructure.

10:50 The Biden administration has supported a bill that would allow the confiscation of frozen Russian assets worth almost $300 billion and use these funds to restore Ukraine. The White House wants to coordinate this step with its G7 allies, including in Europe, where about $200 billion of frozen Russian assets are stored, Bloomberg writes.

10:41 Three committees of the US House of Representatives, led by Republicans, presented a document called the Proposed Plan for Victory in Ukraine. The document was signed by the heads of the Committees on Foreign Affairs, Michael McCall, Armed Services, Mike Rogers, and Intelligence, Mike Turner. In it, they sharply criticize the Biden administration for insufficient assistance to Ukraine and demand decisive action from him.

“Biden’s mantra of supporting Ukraine as long as necessary is a losing strategy,” Republicans emphasize. They are demanding that the White House present a credible plan for victory and provide Ukraine with the weapons it needs as soon as possible. In particular, according to the authors of the document, Kyiv needs the longest-range version of ATACMS, F-16 aircraft, as well as a sufficient number of cluster munitions, artillery, air defense systems and armored vehicles to change the situation on the battlefield.

In addition to providing Ukraine with weapons, Republicans are pushing for stronger sanctions against the Putin regime and the transfer of $300 billion in frozen Russian assets to Kyiv. Congressmen also emphasize the need to monitor American aid, while acknowledging that numerous audits so far have not revealed any significant irregularities.

10:25 Since the beginning of the full-scale Russian invasion, 277 people have been killed as a result of explosions on explosive objects left by the enemy, and another 610 have been injured. Among the dead were 14 children, said Interior Minister Igor Klimenko. Most of the victims were in the Kharkov, Kherson and Nikolaev regions. During this time, almost 755 thousand explosive objects were neutralized, but about a third of the territory of Ukraine still remains contaminated.

09:46 Next week, the UN will ask donors for $3.1 billion for Ukraine’s humanitarian needs in 2024. "More than 14.6 million people - about 40% of Ukraine's population - are in need of some form of humanitarian assistance. Four million people, including almost one million children, are still displaced within the country. More than 6.3 million people continue to live as refugees in neighboring European countries and throughout the world,” said Eden Wosornu, representative of the Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs.

09:01 The General Staff announced the estimated losses of the Russian Federation as of the morning of January 11:

  • personnel - about 367,620 (+830) people,

  • tanks - 6050 (+12),

08:35 The number of victims as a result of yesterday's missile attack on a hotel in the center of Kharkov has increased to 12, said the head of the OBA Oleg Sinegubov. Two people remain in hospital. Also in the evening the enemy fired on the village. Podol, Kupyansky district, two people were injured.

08:17 Zelensky arrived in Tallinn in the morning, said Estonian Foreign Minister Margus Tsahkna.

08:02 Over the past 24 hours, 73 military clashes took place at the front, the General Staff reported in its morning report . In the Kherson direction, the expansion of the bridgehead continues; the enemy carried out 11 unsuccessful assault operations on the positions of the Defense Forces.

07:13 The Russian Ministry of Defense stated that at night Russian air defense allegedly intercepted “Ukrainian drones” over the Rostov, Tula and Kaluga regions. According to local authorities, one drone exploded over a technical structure of a pumping station on the outskirts of Kaluga, another one pierced the roof of a non-residential building in one of the municipalities of the Voronezh region, but there were no casualties.

06:00 The United States intends to discuss a military action plan in Ukraine with Zelensky during the forum in Davos next week, Bloomberg writes. According to agency sources, Biden's national security adviser Jake Sullivan will likely raise this topic with the Ukrainian president. The reason for discussing this topic, according to sources, was the problems that have arisen recently between Washington and Kiev, in particular with financing.

The US will require a military action plan for 2024 to determine the support needed. Washington is also concerned about disagreements between Zelensky and Zaluzhny, which allegedly slows down efforts to develop a new strategy, the publication writes.

01:54 On the evening of January 10, the Russians attacked the Kiev district of Kharkov, first with S-300 missiles, said the head of the OBA Oleg Sinegubov. As a result of the attack, the building of the hotel complex was damaged, where more than 30 civilians were present at the time of the attack. As of now, 11 victims are known , nine of them are hospitalized, one person is in serious condition. The prosecutor's office clarified that among the victims there was one Turkish citizen and one Georgian citizen, both representing Turkish media.

#1  No Christmas for them as with last year. Russians rotated troops and backed off for the holiday rest and recharge. No such thing for Ukrainians. Attrition normal for Russians anyway. Russian meat grinder in operation. Save troops and grind down offensive exposed Ukrainians. They gotta look like they are doing something. Keep the money flowing.

[REGNUM] The very clause “if everything goes well” when we think about plans for the future is completely organic. All experienced people know: anything can happen and life will go topsy-turvy. Today you buy vacation tickets in advance, and tomorrow there will be a global pandemic with border closures, war, a coup d'etat or alien landing. It’s not for nothing that throughout the last year evidence has regularly appeared that they exist and visit Earth.

Frigate Admiral Golovko joins the Russian Northern Fleet
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited.
[Regnum] The carrier of the Zircon hypersonic missiles, the frigate Admiral Golovko, became part of the Northern Fleet, the press service of the fleet reported on January 11.

“Today the Northern Fleet has been replenished with a new serial frigate of Project 22 350, Admiral Golovko. The frigate completed the inter-fleet passage from St. Petersburg and moored at the pier in the main base of the Northern Fleet in the city of Severomorsk,” the message says.

At the pier, the ship's commander, captain of the second rank Andrei Slavin, reported to the commander of the Northern Fleet about the successful completion of the tasks of the inter-fleet transition.

As Northern Fleet Commander Alexander Moiseev noted at the ship’s welcoming ceremony, the frigate will raise the capabilities of Russia’s surface forces to a fundamentally new level.

“This is the most modern ship, representing the basis of ships in the far sea zone; it will have to solve problems in operationally important areas of the World Ocean for our state,” Moiseev emphasized.

As Regnum reported, in December the frigate Admiral Golovko successfully passed tests in the Barents Sea. This is the third ship of Project 22 350, within the framework of which multi-purpose frigates of the 1st rank with guided missile weapons for the near, far sea and ocean zones are being built.

Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu said on September 15 that 12 ships will enter the Russian Navy by the end of 2023. Among them are the frigate Admiral Golovko, the strategic missile submarine Imperator Alexander III and the nuclear submarine Krasnoyarsk.

On December 25, at the Severnaya Verf shipyard, Russian President Vladimir Putin allowed the naval flag to be raised on the frigate Admiral Golovko. The head of state also gave permission to raise the flag on the Naro-Fominsk missile ship and the Lev Chernavin sea minesweeper.

“Admiral Golovko” was equipped with modern Kalibr and Oniks strike missile systems, anti-aircraft missiles, anti-aircraft artillery and artillery systems.

The head of state also said that five frigates, eight corvettes, 13 small missile ships and more than 50 other ships of various classes are currently at Russian shipyards in various stages of readiness.

This is where those previously mobilized in Ukraine went
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited.

Commentary by Russian military blogger Andrey Chervonets.

[Chernovec] Since June 2022, 408,000 obituaries for military personnel have been published in Ukraine.

Taking into account those missing in action and the fact that obituaries are not written or published for many, plus taking into account the first 4 months of the military service, the number of dead military personnel may turn out to be completely prohibitive.

One may recall the recent statement by the former Prosecutor General of Ukraine Lutsenko, who stated that during that time the Ukrainian Armed Forces had an average monthly loss of killed and missing people amounting to about 30,000 people. We multiply 30,000 by 22 and a half months - 650,000-700,000 thousand, which correlates.

But we just had to comply with the Minsk agreements, not strive to join NATO and not organize Maidan in 2014. We could live like normal people in Russia and Belarus. But no, they abandoned their roots, the past, faith, rewrote history, invented a surreal reality and believed in it

#1  Would you yourself want to ‘live like ‘normal’ people in Russia and Belarus”? What a miserable proposition. You’d rather live under a bullshir-spewing* genocidal kleptocrat dictator-for-life than protect what freedom you enjoy in a flawed democracy, and want to live in a US- and NATO-aligned western-style European country?

Belarus - Homeownership is the norm, not the exception. Unemployment is under 5%. Food is super cheap. Energy is super cheap. Chicks are skinny and hot!!! And when they go low tier shopping, the store clerks understand what the are saying.

Additionally they do not suffer the tyranny of the minority, tyranny of advocacy. Belarussians dont suffer the social-cultural retardation in thinking men can have babies.

Woke is a disease. A disease they dont suffer over there. Anyone who thinks woke america, anyone who thinks Wester Liberal Democracy is some type of utopia needs their head examined.

The heirs of Hitler and Mussolini should remember this
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited.

Commentary by Russian military journalist Boris Rozin:

[ColonelCassad] Russia used all types of weapons in Ukraine, except nuclear (c) Medvedev

As I have written more than once, everything that lies below the threshold for the use of nuclear weapons can and will be used in Ukraine.

Medvedev also said that threats of strikes against Russia could become a justification for the use of nuclear weapons.

Here, some thick-headed warriors from Banderostan agreed to the point that the best method of fighting Russia is to destroy our launchers throughout Russia with long-range missiles transferred from the West.

What does it mean? There is only one thing - they risk running into the action of clause 19 of the Fundamentals of Russian State Policy in the field of nuclear deterrence: “d) aggression against the Russian Federation using conventional weapons, when the very existence of the state is at risk.” This is not a right to self-defense, but a direct and obvious basis for our use of nuclear weapons against such a state.

All the heirs of Hitler, Mussolini, Pétain and others in today's Europe, which supports the Nazis in Kyiv, should remember this.

This is the next stage, which can begin with the use of tactical nuclear weapons in Ukraine during the transition to the penultimate stage of escalation before the start of a nuclear war between the United States and Russia.

Rewrite the icon with Stalin
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited.

Commentary by Russian military journalist Boris Rozhin

[ColonelCassad] In Georgia, local priests called for an “urgent rewrite” of the icon of Stalin with Matrona (made in 2008), with whom Stalin allegedly met during the Battle of Moscow.

Previously, Georgian priests quite calmly displayed the icon at home, but now, after acts of vandalism, they called for “historical authenticity.” They threaten that if those who donated the icon do not redraw it themselves, then they will take up the paints themselves.

Of course, there is not a single documentary evidence that Stalin ever met with Matrona, not to mention the feverish delirium about the flights of Moscow with icons during Operation Typhoon. These are already post-Soviet tales. Which, however, as part of the development of a bizarre branch of “Orthodox Stalinism” (in the second half of the 2000s, when a large-scale process of rehabilitation of Stalin in the public consciousness began in Russia), also gave rise to similar icons, from which the left laughed and the right babbled.

The icon itself with Stalin in the church had long ago turned into a meme that didn’t really bother anyone (those who wanted to believe in this story could believe in it, those who didn’t want to could laugh at it), which floated out in such a bizarre form during the next paroxysms Russophobia in Georgia, which in relation to Georgia is especially ironic, since Georgia has not given birth to a greater man than Stalin (although the Ossetians can present here, with their version that Stalin was not a Georgian, but an Ossetian) and it is not a fact that it will ever give birth sometime in the future.

The Patriarchate of Georgia asked to remove the image of Stalin from the icon of Matrona

The Patriarchate of Georgia considers it necessary to rewrite the icon of the Matrona of Moscow, which depicts Joseph Stalin, kept in the Tbilisi Cathedral of the Holy Trinity. This is reported on the organization's website.

“Since Stalin’s meeting with Saint Matrona, due to insufficient evidence, is not included in the canonical text of her life and is not recognized by the Russian Orthodox Church... it is necessary to change the mentioned episode and take into account other details related to icon painting. We urge those who donated the icon to make the appropriate changes themselves, or we will do it,” the Georgian Patriarchate said in a statement.

The icon found itself at the center of a scandal after ex-deputy of the Georgian Parliament Georgiy Kandelaki posted a video of her on one of the social networks on the eve of the Nativity of Christ. Then it turned out that the image of St. Matrona was donated to the Holy Trinity Cathedral by the leaders of the Alliance of Georgian Patriots party, Irma Inashvili and David Tarkhan-Mouravi. In the comments, users began to express their concerns about this.

The Alliance of Patriots of Georgia agreed with the position of the Georgian Orthodox Church and will comply with the proposal to remove the image of Stalin.

According to Inashvili, the icon was painted several years ago. It was donated to the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity. And Inashvili called the excitement around the icon a triumph of complete illiteracy and darkness.

Later, a photograph of the same icon appeared, which was doused with blue paint. This was done by opposition activist Nata Peradze, after which protest rallies were held near her house. It all happened on January 9th. The Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia opened a case on the fact of vandalism. The Georgian authorities want to tighten responsibility for the desecration of shrines.

As Regnum reported, on August 6, the Ukrainian trident coat of arms was installed on the Motherland monument in Kiev instead of the coat of arms of the USSR.

On August 1, the hammer and sickle were removed from the Motherland monument in Kiev. They decided to send the coat of arms itself to the museum for storage. The authorities timed the dismantling to coincide with the celebration of Ukraine's Independence Day on August 24. Workers began lifting a new coat of arms with a trident onto the monument on August 5, but the installation was stopped due to darkness.

Patriarchate of Georgia demanded to change the icon with Stalin

Stalin's meeting with Saint Matrona, who is depicted on the icon donated to the Holy Trinity Cathedral, has not been confirmed, the Patriarchate of Georgia said today, calling on the donors to “make changes” to the icon. The leader of the Alliance of Patriots of Georgia party, which donated the icon to the cathedral, called the position of the Patriarchate acceptable.

As the "Caucasian Knot" wrote, unknown persons in the Tbilisi Cathedral poured paint on an icon donated by the Alliance of Georgian Patriots party, which depicts Joseph Stalin, a video about this was published on the social network by activist Nata Peradze. Under Stalin, hundreds of clergy were executed in Georgia, the SovLab Laboratory for the Study of the Soviet Past said, calling on the Patriarchate to remove the icon from the cathedral. This is an icon of St. Matrona, not Stalin, and portraits of “the great persecutors of the church” are sometimes depicted on icons, the Patriarchate of Georgia said.

In the Georgian religious tradition, it is not customary to depict persecutors of the church on icons, especially in a complimentary way, theologians interviewed by the Caucasian Knot pointed out. The appearance of an icon with Stalin in the Holy Trinity Cathedral in Tbilisi is  a political action  to support Russian information influence, an expert at the Laboratory for the Study of the Soviet Past is sure.

Activist Nata Peradze, who on January 9 published a video of an icon of Stalin splashed with paint, complained of threats. On January 10, supporters of the Alt-Info movement came to Peradze’s house; the police  did not allow  them to approach the building.

The Georgian Patriarchate released a statement today calling for the fragment of the icon depicting Stalin to be changed. Even persecutors of the faith can be depicted on icons, the Patriarchate said in a statement. “Depending on the canonical rules of iconography, the icon can depict not only a saint, but also real stories related to the life of a saint, with the image of any person, including rulers and ordinary people, heretics and persecutors of the Christian faith. This does not mean that the icon glorifies these persons - such details are a reflection of the indisputable facts associated with the saint,” says a statement published on the website of the Patriarchate of Georgia.

The meeting of Stalin and Saint Matrona “due to insufficient evidence, is not included in the canonical text of her life and is not recognized by the Russian Church, which canonized her and conducted a special study on this issue,” the Patriarchate noted. “It is necessary to change the mentioned episode and take into account other details related to the canonicity of the iconography. We ask the donors to make the appropriate changes to the icon themselves, or we will do it,” the patriarchate said in a statement.

The leader of the Alliance of Patriots of Georgia, Irma Inashvili, called the position of the Patriarchate acceptable. “I wrote two days ago: if the church asks to replace this fragment of the icon with a fragment of a different content, we must obey. But this does not mean that we should forgive someone for insulting the icon,” she wrote on her Facebook page*.

The "Caucasian Knot" also wrote that a representative of the Georgian Dream stated the need for criminal punishment for desecration of the icon. The opposition considered the scandal surrounding the icon with Stalin to be an artificial manipulation in the information space, and social network users demanded that the icon be removed from the temple so as not to insult the memory of the repressed.

Many Georgians are unaware of the scale of Stalin's repressions and  are proud of Stalin as a fellow countryman who held the highest office in the Soviet Union, historians said on August 2, 2020. Some of the Georgian residents interviewed by the "Caucasian Knot" confirmed their sympathy for the personality of Stalin.

'We have nothing to oppose Russia.' Kyiv recognizes a serious problem
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited.
by Andrey Kots

[RIA] After a series of attacks on military infrastructure, Kiev publicly admitted that the Ukrainian air defense system, in fact, failed. But the point is not so much in the shortcomings of Western air defense systems, but in Russian tactics.

THREE STRIKES
The first blow was struck on the night of December 29. Experts started talking about a response to the rocket attack on Feodosia a few days earlier. However, it soon became obvious that the operation had been planned well in advance: this was evidenced by both the scale of the attack and the variety of precision weapons involved.

Speaker of the Ukrainian Air Force Yuriy Ignat admitted: “We have never seen so many targets on our monitor.” According to him, Russia has used all types of high-precision missiles, except for the sea-based Caliber cruise missiles. According to the Kyiv Ministry of Defense, 158 attack weapons took part in the attack - 122 missiles and 36 drones. The air defense shot down, as the Ukrainian Armed Forces assured, 114 air targets.

However, video evidence published on social networks refute this. Explosions that night thundered throughout Ukraine. Missiles and drones hit Odessa and the Odessa region, Lvov, Kharkov, Dnieper and Kyiv. Moreover, if in the fall and winter of 2022 the targets were mainly energy infrastructure facilities, this time they targeted military-industrial complex enterprises, ammunition depots, and military equipment storage sites. This was later confirmed by the Russian Ministry of Defense.

“The target of the strike was achieved, all designated targets were hit,” the department reported. “As a result of the strike, the production and repair of military equipment and ammunition was stopped, and the transfer of Ukrainian Armed Forces reserves from the western regions of Ukraine was stopped. As a result of the disruption of railway transportation, foreign weapons supplied to the Ukrainian Armed Forces were blocked in the rear areas."

On January 2, a large-scale attack was repeated. This time, the main targets were military-industrial complex enterprises in Kyiv and Kharkov. According to the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Russia launched a strike with 40 long-range Geran drones, 110 cruise missiles of various types and 12 Iskander ballistic missiles. They allegedly intercepted 107 air attack weapons, including all ten hypersonic Kinzhals. However, no evidence was provided.

On the eighth, military-industrial complex facilities were attacked in Kharkov and the region, Zaporozhye, Krivoy Rog, and Novomoskovsk. Official Kyiv reported less optimistically this time: 26 out of 59 missiles and drones were intercepted.

HUNTING FOR AIR DEFENSE SYSTEMS
Ukrainian air defense clearly cannot withstand: during such attacks, anti-radar missiles are launched simultaneously with high-precision missiles in order to target the signal of a working radar. It inevitably flies at the positions of the anti-aircraft gunners - enemy air defense systems have been and remain among the highest priority targets.

Each complex is very expensive for Kyiv, so the Ukrainian Armed Forces carefully hide the damage caused. But many experts, even in the West, believe that the losses are very high.

“The two major attacks on December 29 and January 2 were absolutely devastating,” says British military analyst Alexander Mercouris. “It is obvious that the Americans and Ukrainians, as well as their Western allies, are shocked by these attacks. There is ample evidence of the destruction of at least two Patriot air defense missile batteries in Kyiv, not counting industrial enterprises and strategic facilities."

Of course, SAM personnel also die or are injured. There are not so many specialists in Ukraine capable of working with Western air defense equipment. These losses hit the defense capability of the Ukrainian Armed Forces almost more than the destruction of the air defense system itself.

ROCKET HUNGER
Is that anything like gun s3x?
Another factor that has significantly reduced the effectiveness of Ukrainian air defense over the past couple of weeks is the rapid consumption of anti-aircraft guided missiles (SAMs).

Such generosity does not always evoke understanding in the West. The New York Times recently noted that the United States will not be able to supply Ukraine with missiles for the Patriot air defense system, costing two to four million dollars per unit, until Congress decides on funding.

“There really is a shortage of anti-aircraft guided missiles, no one is hiding it,” Yuri Ignat said during the telethon. “That’s why such concerns appear in the Western press. I think our Western partners are well informed about the state of affairs with our air defense systems. We have spent a lot missiles, repelling the massive attacks of recent days."

Earlier, he also reported that the Kh-32 supersonic air-launched cruise missiles, accelerating up to 5,400 kilometers per hour, cause a particular headache for Ukrainian anti-aircraft gunners. So far, not a single one has been shot down - this is officially recognized in Kyiv. That is, even the most advanced Western air defense systems are powerless against them.

The key feature of the X-32 is its extensive ability to overcome air defenses. Firstly, the rocket flies with a ceiling of about 40 kilometers. No anti-aircraft gun in the world is capable of intercepting a target at such a height. Secondly, in the final phase, the X-32 attacks in a steep dive, which makes it difficult to detect - many systems do not “see” directly above them. Thirdly, the radar of this missile is characterized by increased resistance to electronic warfare.

And most importantly, the X-32 is mass-produced by industry. Ukraine, which does not have a developed military-industrial complex, is completely dependent on Western supplies. And there, judging by statements from official platforms and “stuffing” in the media, Kyiv began to openly become a burden to many.

Ukrainian Air Force speaker Ignat: Kyiv will not be able to shoot down all Russian missiles

The Ukrainian army does not have enough means to shoot down all Russian missiles. This was admitted on January 11 by Ukrainian Air Force representative Yuriy Ignat during a telethon.

“It is clear that we do not have enough resources to shoot down the thousands of missiles that Russia currently has in its warehouses,” he said.

Ignat instead proposed striking missile launchers of the Russian Armed Forces.

As Regnum reported, on January 9, Ignat said that Ukrainian troops are experiencing a serious shortage of guided anti-aircraft missiles. However, the volume of current Western supplies cannot cover these needs, he added.

Earlier in the day, the American Military Watch Magazine wrote that air defense systems cannot shoot down Russian missiles. Journalists noted that international analysts doubt reports from Ukrainian sources claiming that the Ukrainian Armed Forces’ air defense forces previously successfully intercepted attacks from Russian Kinzhal missiles.

Zelensky reproached the West for the lack of air defense

President Vladimir Zelensky reproached Western partners that if they had given Ukraine more powerful air defense systems, people would not have died from massive Russian ballistic missile attacks. The head of state announced this at a press conference in Riga on Thursday, January 11.

“How can you live peacefully and sleep if you understand that you have dozens of such systems (Patriot – ed.), and if Ukraine were given seven systems today, people in Kharkov, Kherson, and Odessa would not die? Is this normal to live with?’ he said.

Zelensky noted that he does not understand this attitude of the West.

The president also drew attention to delays in the supply of Western weapons. According to him, many Ukrainians are dying while Ukrainian troops are waiting for this help. Simultaneously with criticism, Zelensky thanked Western partners for their support.

Let us recall that Zelensky previously said that the Russian Federation, with its large-scale shelling, is trying to break the spirit of Ukrainians, therefore priority No. 1 is to strengthen the air defense and armament of Ukraine.
