-Lurid Crime Tales-
Where Are All the Headlines When 'Free Palestine' Is On a Shooter's Assault Weapon?
Follow-up to this story from yesterday, when a transgender female named Genesse Ivonne Moreno, 36, originally a man from El Salvador with a long rap sheet named Jeffrey Escalate Moreno showed up at Joel Osteen's Lakewood Church near Houston with an AR-15 and a five year old boy. She was shot dead before she could commit her massacre, thank goodness.
BLUF:
[Hot Air] Said shooter was carrying the penultimate much-demonized "weapon of war/assault weapon" (used only by white supremacists, we have been assured) into a church with the intent to carry out a mass shooting (also only perpetrated by white supremacists)...and that's not in the lede ANYWHERE?!

It's quite the oddest thing. I'm not seeing any major media reacting like I imagine they would the second, say, MAGA MAGA MAGA had been on the side of an AR-15 merely being carried on a sidewalk, less mind taken into a house of worship and lit off intending to kill people.

In fact, the media is going out of their way to avoid mentioning what the weapon was at all.

ABC 13 Eyewitness News calls the AR-15 a "gun" or a "long rifle," although they mention the pro-Hamas message straight up front.
Behold the media's incorrect narrative.

The Times of Israel adds:
The woman who opened fire over the weekend at Joel Osteen’s megachurch in Houston had a history of mental illness and left a trail of "antisemitic writings," law enforcement officials said on Monday, as their search for a motive entered a second day.

Authorities identified the woman as 36-year-old Genesse Moreno, saying she had opened fire inside Lakewood Church on Sunday with her 7-year-old son in tow.

As a motive, they said they were looking at a range of possibilities: a family dispute, a history of mental illness, and potentially an opinion about the war in Gazoo
...Hellhole adjunct to Israel and Egypt's Sinai Peninsula, inhabited by Gazooks. The place was acquired in the wake of the 1967 War and then presented to Paleostinian control in 2006 by Ariel Sharon, who had entered his dotage. It is currently ruled with an iron fist by Hamas with about the living conditions you'd expect. It periodically attacks the Hated Zionist Entity whenever Iran needs a ruckus created or the hard boyz get bored, getting thumped by the IDF in return. The ruling turbans then wave the bloody shirt and holler loudly about oppression and disproportionate response...
, pointing out that the gun she used in the shooting had a sticker that read "Paleostine." Authorities also said they found "antisemitic writings" belonging to the suspect.

Two off-duty law enforcement officers who were working security at the church exchanged fire with and killed Moreno shortly before 2 p.m. local time in the hallway of the church as worshipers were arriving for a Spanish-language service.

The 7-year-old boy, whom officials said was Moreno’s son, was shot in the head and remained at death's door on Monday.

"We do have some antisemitic writings that we have uncovered in this process," Christopher Hassig, commander of the Houston Police Department homicide division, told news hounds in an update on the investigation. He did not say where the writings were found.

"We do believe that there was a familial dispute that has taken place between her ex-husband and her ex-husband’s family and some of those individuals are Jewish, so we believe that that might possibly be where all of this stems from," Hassig said, emphasizing that the investigation is in its early stages.

Moreno, who Hassig said had gone by several aliases, including a masculine name, had been put under an emergency detention order by Houston police in 2016, and had a documented mental health history, according to family members.

The majority of mass shootings in the US are carried out by men, making the apparent Houston attempt a rarity. The US Secret Service National Threat Assessment Center, which studies all forms of targeted violence including mass casualty attacks, found in a 2023 report that 96% of mass attackers from 2016-2020 were male.

Officials said they were still investigating how Moreno obtained her guns, one of which she appeared to have bought in December. She brought two long rifles into the church — an AR-15, with which she fired multiple rounds, and a 22-caliber rifle that she had in reserve.

She forced her way past a security guard to enter the church around 1:55 p.m. on Sunday, wearing a backpack and a trench coat. She immediately started firing her AR-15, which had a sticker on the bumpstock that said "Paleostine," officials said on Monday.

Moreno said at the scene that she had a bomb and was seen spraying some kind of substance, officials said, but law enforcement found no explosives after searching her backpack and vehicle and no risk of toxic substance exposure.

Law enforcement credited the officers who intervened for thwarting what could have been a catastrophic tragedy.

#3  Schizophrenic and nasty, per MSN. I’m still curious about how two men — one presenting as female — created a child.

Prior to her attack, Moreno had been arrested at least six times since 2005, her charges including unlawful carrying of a weapon, assault of a public servant, assault causing bodily injury, forgery, theft and marijuana possession, according to records obtained by KXAN. Her last arrest was in 2022, after police officers in Katy reportedly found two weapons in her car during a traffic stop, ABC 13 reported. Despite her criminal past, police said she legally purchased the AR-15 she used in the attack in December.

In divorce records obtained by ABC 13, Moreno's husband Enrique Carranza, who alleges Moreno was abusive, referred to her as Jeffrey. Investigators confirmed Moreno, who has always identified as a woman, went by both male and female aliases in the past, including the name Jeffrey Escalante. "Jeffrey is a diagnosed schizophrenic, so daily it was a new battle or fight in her realm," the documents read. The documents show Moreno also accused Enrique, a registered sex offender, of abuse.

However, Walli took to Facebook on Monday to deny these claims. "Although my former daughter-in-law raged against Israel and Jews in a pro-Palestine rant yesterday, this has nothing to do with Judaism or Islam. Nothing!" she wrote. "But this is what happens when reckless and irresponsible reporting lets people with severe mental illness have an excuse for violence."

Investigators also emphasized Moreno's struggles with mental health, noting that in 2016 she was placed under an emergency detention order, which is used to detain a person with a mental illness who poses a risk of serious harm to themselves or others. "We need to continue to be aware of mental health issues in our community," said Houston Mayor John Whitmire during the presser. "There are indications that mental health played a role in an early investigation."

Several of Moreno's neighbors in Conroe told NBC News they were afraid to leave their homes after she harassed them and threatened them over the years, claiming officials failed to respond to their reports about Moreno. "I've been through hell," Jill, who did not want to give her last name for fear of retaliation, told the outlet. "I have reported this, reported this, reported this, and it has gone on deaf ears. Nobody should have died. Nobody should have been hurt. This should have been handled years ago."

Walli blamed "the system" for allowing someone with "psychiatric problems who threatens other people" to own a gun. "No one may ever blame a police officer who carries out his or her rightful duty to save lives even if they are found responsible for shooting my grandson," she wrote. "The fault lies in Child Protective Services of Montgomery County and Harris County which refused to remove custody from a woman with known mental illness who was not being treated and with the State of Texas for not having strong red flag laws that would have prevented from owning or possessing a gun."

-Great Cultural Revolution
NFL fans show the proper disdain for the so-called ‘Black National Anthem'
[American Thinker] That the NFL went all-in for Black Lives Matter makes sense, given that almost 60% of pro football players are black. It even went all-in for playing "Lift Every Voice and Sing" before games, including yesterday’s Super Bowl. It’s a lovely hymn in its own right, but there’s a problem: It’s billed as "the Black National Anthem." That’s why Rep. Steve Cohen, an uber-woke House member from Memphis, later tweeted out his disappointment that Super Bowl fans insisted on there being only one National Anthem. Tweeters soon set him straight.

The Star-Spangled Banner is America’s national anthem. This isn’t a traditional position. This is per American law, passed in 1931 and codified at 36 U.S.C. § 301(a). There is one United States of America and one legal national anthem, which applies to all people regardless of race, creed, sex, etc.. Long ago, America’s sports teams began the tradition of playing the anthem before games began.

Per the statute, when the flag is displayed, and the anthem is sung, people in attendance at the event should face the flag and stand at attention with their right hand over the heart, and men not in uniform, if applicable, should remove their headdress with their right hand and hold it at the left shoulder, the hand being over the heart...

Although the law is never enforced, Americans who are not leftists voluntarily abide by it. They don’t salute kings or queens; they salute America’s symbol and the song that celebrates it.

But then there’s that hymn. As I said, it’s a very nice hymn celebrating God and liberty, and the melody is lovely. It is an essentially American song.

The problem is how the left is using it. By focusing on its title as "the Black National Anthem," leftists are essentially saying that Black Americans are a nation within a nation. There is, of course, no such thing. Even playing it at the Super Bowl right before the National Anthem itself isn’t going to make it an actual national anthem. Instead, it just takes a beautiful piece of music and makes it divisive.

To give you a sense of that divisiveness, you only need to look at the tweet from Rep. Steve Cohen, who was elected out of Memphis, Tennessee. Memphis, like the NFL itself, has a population that’s around 60% black. That population may explain why Cohen saw fit to pander at an almost unimaginable level:

#1  "Divide and conquer."

Google - The Latin phrase “Divide et impera” is as old as politics and war. The divide your enemy so you can reign approach is attributed to Julius Cesar — he successfully applied it to conquer Gaul twenty-two centuries ago (no typo). But he wasn't the first, nor the last, to implement it.

#7  I "watched" it with the TV on and the sound OFF while reading a book. Every so often I would look up to see if the game was still playing and what the score was -- watching the TV constantly was pointless because the game was constantly being interrupted by commercials and the like.

I doubt I will bother next year, though this year would have been a good game to watch without all of the interruptions (overtime drama and all that).

Chicago Democrats turn against Mayor Johnson on migrant issue: 'We asked for it'
[FoxNews] Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson blamed Texas Gov. Greg Abbott for thousands of migrants arriving in the city.

The migrant crisis could "flip the state of Illinois purple," local Chicago Democrats warned Mayor Brandon Johnson.

A National Review report on Monday spoke with various activists and Democratic candidates on the growing number of migrants in the city. Cook County Board of Commissioners candidate Zerlina Smith-Members was particularly vocal on public funds being used to house migrants instead of helping the homeless.

"We have people who have come here illegally, who have jumped the line," Smith-Members said.

She also rejected Johnson’s frequent attempts to blame Texas Republican Gov. Greg Abbott for the migrants, noting that Chicago is a sanctuary city.

"It’s a Biden thing. It’s a [Illinois Gov. J.B.] Pritzker thing. It’s a Brandon Johnson thing. They wanted sanctuary cities," Smith-Members said. "It’s not Abbott’s fault, because he didn’t ask for it. We asked for it."

She added, "It’s just a lot, and it’s overwhelming."

Peace activist Dr. Lora Chamberlain similarly pushed back on the idea that Abbott was to blame.

"What state could possibly take in millions of refugees?" she asked.

Others pointed to a growing resentment among that African-American community over the preferential treatment of migrants.

"The reality is, if you look at Chicago now, you have high unemployment rates among African-American youth in particular, you have a lack of mental-health services in Chicago, you had thousands of homeless people in Chicago already that were never, ever focused on like they are focusing on the migrants," South Side activist Tio Hardiman said.

"I’m not against them living their lives," Hardiman added. "It’s creating too much competition between poor people in Chicago that never, ever received this level of support. Never ever."

Hardiman said Johnson’s policies on the issue have "really discouraged" him.

"If I was the mayor right now, I would make an executive decision to bring an end to sanctuary-city [status] in Chicago," he added. "I would get rid of it because we’re not prepared to deal with it."

The National Review reported that Smith-Members is attempting to launch a recall against Johnson over the migrant crisis.

"There’s a division in our Democratic Party. It has weakened. It is going to get worse," Smith-Members said. "The city of Chicago voters have woke up. The state of Illinois voters have woke up. And they’re not standing with our old leadership."

She declared, "The immigration crisis is going to flip the state of Illinois purple."

The mayor’s office didn't immediately respond for comment.

According to numbers reported by local ABC affiliate WLS, more than 35,000 migrants arrived in Chicago in the last year and a half.

The West is feverishly trying to plug the gap in Russia's information blockade
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited.
by Vladimir Kornilov

[RIA] Vladimir Putin’s interview with American journalist Tucker Carlson certainly opened an incredible hole in the information iron curtain that the West has built around Russia over the past two years. And now the propaganda there is feverishly trying to at least a little patch up this hole. The first reaction was emotional, and over the weekend there were materials claiming to be “analytical” - a kind of “exposure of a session of black magic.”

#1  I don't believe it opened any kind of a hole at all. Mainstream media outlets all ignored it. X may have carried it but, as has been noted even here at Rantburg, nobody was terribly impressed. OK. I was. But I'm a self-confessed history nerd. I think for the vast majority of Americans it was hardly a blip on the radar screen.

If Putin is to win this war, he will have to do it on the battlefield and not in the court of American Public Opinion.

A Hill Worth Dying On
[Clandestine] Reasons I don’t want to send more money to Ukraine:

1- They are literally Nazis

2- Our money is being stolen/laundered

3- The war will end if we stop funding

4- The US/NATO started the conflict

5- The West lied about everything

6- US oligarchs are making bioweapons

7- Our border is not secure

8- We are $33 trillion in debt

9- All foreign aid is a scam

10- The US government and ruling class are evil and profiting from pandemics, human slavery, and war

The American People do not benefit in any way by sending all of our money to Ukraine. The only ones who benefit are defense contractors, big pharma, and corrupt oligarchs.

We only receive poverty, propaganda, illness, and death. If there is a hill to die on, it might as well be this one.

'Vladimir Putin Will Not Lose This War': Sen. Ron Johnson And Elon Musk Discuss Facing Reality In Ukraine
[Zero] During today's Twitter Spaces, Elon Musk and Sen. Ron Johnson (R-WI) discussed their opposition to the ongoing war in Ukraine.

"We all have to understand that Vladimir Putin will not lose this war... Losing to Vladimir Putin is existential to Vladimir Putin. Russia has four times the population and a much larger industrial base," said Johnson, adding "Russia can produce 4.5 million artillery shells per year. We're not even up to 1 million per year. The average age of a Ukrainian soldier right now is 43 years old."

"If you're worried about the people of Ukraine, you have to understand that probably 100,000 of their soldiers have been killed," Johnson continued, adding "The only way this war ends is in a settlement, and every day that the war goes on, more Ukrainians and more Russian conscripts die, more civilians die, and more of Ukraine gets destroyed. Again, sending $60 billion as added fuel to the flames of a bloody stalemate makes no sense."

Musk echoed Johnson's sentiment, saying "As you said, there's no way Putin is going to lose. If he backs off, he will be assassinated. And for those who want regime change in Russia, they should think about who is the person that could take out Putin?"

Scholz called Putin's interview 'ridiculous'
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited.

Commentary by Russian military blogger Andrey Chervonets

[Chernovec] It is clear that the interview is intended for a Western audience, but it seems that the Russian President took into account the delay in their development and gave out information carefully and in doses. And even in this situation... they are in shock.

The interview did not surprise us, because we know the stated historical facts very well. But we must understand that for a wide range of Western people who are interested in the truth, everything that was said was a revelation!

Perhaps Putin, in an interview, even expounded in too much detail our position, our history on the basis of existing archival documents, cited various arguments that may well seem controversial to them (but controversial only because of their own ignorance) and which it would be most correct to discuss with arguments and facts. But Olaf Scholz, not having anything substantive to say, and not possessing the same intelligence and erudition as Putin, is only able to call (during a meeting with his overlord in Washington) all this “ridiculous.” nothing to answer.

Whatever you say to Olaf, it’s all giggling and giggling. What about the death of Russians in Donbass since 2014 and the alley of dead children, what about Putin’s interview with Carlson. Although, I'm probably too hard on Scholz. What could you expect from the most ridiculous German politician in history? The position of the Germans now is the merit of the German leader, who, to please the Pindos, deprived the country of cheap gas and was not even indignant about the explosion of the gas pipeline, depriving Germany of the opportunity to remain a prosperous independent country with a strong economy.

Actually, all of today's Western hysterics about this interview are due to the fact that this is a unique case in modern history.

This is the FIRST interview with Putin, which a Western citizen can personally, without cuts and without the accompaniment of critical comments, without “cutting” and “cutting.” "Watch in FULL FOR FREE on a resource popular in the West."

Putin previously, if anyone has forgotten, gave extensive articles “for a Western audience” in Western media, and gave quite voluminous interviews to Western media.

BUT, all of this was either published in the media, which had to be paid for reading, and had an extremely narrow audience (well, if several million) and it was all published with bills and each paragraph was dissected and accompanied by “antitheses” of the Western, as they like to say, narrative. And here is EVERYTHING, FREE, AVAILABLE AND WITHOUT CREDITS. It’s clear that the Western elites are clutching their heads.

Therefore, the most important defense for the Western information space is: “Don’t watch the interview, it’s a lie!”, although they cannot provide a single example to support their cries.

In France and Germany they showed a 15-second piece and that’s it. It’s good that there is the Internet, Otherwise, no one would have known about the interview, much less what it was about. Only on Tucker Carlson’s resources the views are off the charts, and it’s clear that no one will cheat him for this unsystematic interview.
The American journalist already has 200 million views on X (Twitter), 15 million interviews were viewed on his Youtbe channel... And how many reposts in various social networks, translations, interviews in Russian, Spanish, Chinese..., plus countless views of individual but numerous clips from him? You can not be afraid to make a mistake when declaring, that a billion views is not a stream for this interview.

With this interview, Tucker Carlson earned a Pulitzer Prize.

But for understanding. For example, one of the nominations in the Journalism section was “For outstanding presentation of sensational material.” Tucker didn't deserve it? Or, at least the nomination “For Service to Society” - Tucker also deserved it, because he was not afraid to convey the truth to his people. Few?

You can also add “For disclosing the national theme” - it was in an interview with Tucker that GDP revealed the full urgency of the national issue, making an excursion into the history of Russia especially for the American people. And the way Tucker did it, and under what conditions and threats to him personally, is quite worthy of the “For Excellence” award. It is also important to note the nomination “For International Reporting”; Tucker created an exclusive here too.

But of course Tucker won’t be given the Pulitzer Prize. It will be given to some Iranian opposition journalist or transvestite journalist.

IN CONCLUSION
Here, in my opinion, it’s time to remember the prophetic phrase of Anthony the Great: “The last times will come, when nine sick people will come to one healthy person and say: you are sick because you are not like us.” words supported by indisputable historical facts - “ridiculous” and “ridiculous”...

The interview is intended for smart people in the West. On those who think independently, and not on liver sausage. Your attempts, gentlemen of the Pro-Pindos Tabaki, to put a face on a bad game are ridiculous and absurd.

#2  But we must understand that for a wide range of Western people who are interested in the truth, everything that was said was a revelation!

Anybody interested in TRUTH could've just looked at Ukraine's record for the 30 years of "independence".

Institutions double down on AI in trading ‐ JPMorgan survey
[Cointelgraph] AI is regarded as the most impactful technology shaping the future of trading, according to 61% of 4,010 institutional traders surveyed by JPMorgan.

Institutional investors have been increasingly betting on the role of artificial intelligence (AI) in the future of trading, according to a new survey by the multinational investment bank JPMorgan.

In the most recent edition of JPMorgan’s "e-Trading Edit: Insights from the Inside" survey, 61% of the 4,010 institutional traders surveyed across 65 countries anticipated AI and machine learning (ML) to emerge as the most impactful technologies for trading within the next three years.

According to the survey’s rankings, AI and ML are followed by application programming interface (API) integration, with 13% of respondents choosing it as one of the most important technologies shaping the future of trading.

Blockchain or distributed ledger technology and quantum computing both account for 7% based on the respondent’s preferences. Mobile trading applications and natural language processing secured 6% of respondents.

Time for Consequences
[Insty Substack] The bloom is off the Biden presidency.

In 2020, we were told that he would bring about a return to normalcy. Bring America respect abroad. Calm down our "chaotic" domestic political scene. And make government respectable again.

How’s he doing? Well, let’s review some headlines from this weekend’s New York Times, normally a reliable booster of Democratic presidents, good, bad, or indifferent.

"The Challenges of an Aging President."

"Mr. President, Ditch the Stealth About Health."

"The Question Is Not If Biden Should Step Aside. It’s How."

This isn’t news to Americans, of course. As an ABC News poll, also out this weekend, illustrated, an overwhelming majority of Americans think that Biden is too old for another term.
Nevertheless, I predict he will receive 120% percent of the vote.
The bloom is off the Biden presidency.
