#1  Did Bush not realise by removing Saddam we were playing into Iran hands with a Shia majority?

The Saudis must be well pissed off!

#2  Did Bush not realise by removing Saddam we were playing into Iran hands with a Shia majority?

Don't you mean by not replacing Saddam by another Sunni general---one smart enough to remember what happened to Saddam (as he was advised by both Israel and Saudiis)?

#3  Perhaps true, if the current Iranian regime stays in power. But the radical Shia administration is facing some serious internal problems, both economic and demographic, and depending on when and how those come to a boil, a more Iraq-ish/moderate (relatively-speaking) Iran could result, which would not be a US defeat. I guess you have to ask yourself if you feel lucky.

#4  Shia may like Shia but Arabs and Persians hate each other. The CIA is sleeping on the job if they haven't stoked those fires. A proper CIA would have the Arab section of Iran, the one with a lot of oil, trying to join Iraq, not the other way around.

#5  Still has to play out. I still recall the whining in the 60s and 70s how we 'lost' in Korea. Those satellite photos of night on the peninsula years later put an end to that screed.

#6  It might help if someone could arrange for Tater Tot to have an accident.

#7  I'm thinking maybe he could run over an IED.

#8  Ebbang, better know who's in the on-deck circle before striking out Tater Tot; he seems popular, but is not the sharpest knife in the drawer, and his replacement could be significantly more dangerous.

#9  Ebbang Uluque6305, I think that the theory that you can fix things by removing some "Evil Dictator"---because "the People" are naturally good, is not supported by historical evidence.

#10  You wouldn't want to take out Nasrallah?

#11  You wouldn't want to take out Nasrallah?

No. I want to destroy all Hezbollah ammo dumps, make south Lebanon unlivable, and smash infrastructure in the rest of Lebanon. And then maybe, just maybe, we won't have to kill several million Iranians a few years down the road.

#12  OK. I can sympathize with that. I just hope that when you get around to actually doing it we'll have a president who will too.

#13  Starting to think Muslim countries need a brutal dictator to keep their troublesome people in check!
