More and more, the left produces individuals who openly, deeply and vigorously hate Jews. For years, this anti-Semitism has been kept under wraps, every now and then coming out in either some unguarded moment, like Jesse Jackson's "Hymietown" remark; or peripherally, like referring to conservatives as "Nazis".
Why this is taking place now is, in part, due to the efforts of failed left-wing indoctrination in the public schools for many years, that overemphasized the importance of Jews and the Holocaust in World War II. As a fully integrated, but tiny (about 1.4%) minority almost identical to the majority in the United States, Jews could have almost remained invisible, except they were made into a caricature of victimization, almost impossible to imagine in far-away Europe. They were made such a caricature, with the suggestion of moral superiority, solely because they generally supported the political left.
But today, in a great irony, the Jews that were honored and held up as special by the left, have now been cast down and are cursed and despised. It is not the Palestinians that the left admires, they would not recognize a Palestinian if they saw one, it is that Israel (and thus Jews) have been embraced by the right, and so *must* be attacked by the left.
It is surprising how rapidly this anti-Semitism has taken root among the left. How easily they turn on their former political allies, and with such appalling venom and hatred. To the credit of a few on the left, they are shrinking back from the attacks, catching themselves and questioning what is happening here; but far too many are becoming--what? What is the end of their hatred? Already, some are trying to "hurt" Israel. Others are now even hoping to "destroy" Israel. Unlikely that Israel will collapse before them, will the left soon seek to punish Jews with the law of the land?
I would ask that Rantburgers collect and post further examples of left-wing hate against Jews, Israel, and Zionists. I think it would serve us all to know how far and how fast this evil will grow.
On a different, unnamed forum, I found a discussion about the anti-Semitic remarks of Cindy Sheehan:
"Am I emotional? Yes, my first born was murdered. Am I angry? Yes, he was killed for lies and for a PNAC Neo-Con agenda to benefit Israel. My son joined the army to protect America, not Israel. Am I stupid? No, I know full well that my son, my family, this nation and this world were betrayed by George Bush who was influenced by the neo-con PNAC agendas after 9/11."
What follows are selections of remarks, made by left-wing members of the forum, that I think clearly illustrate the danger of what is taking place today. I kept their original grammer and expletives.
"To be fair to the people who bring Israel into this, Some of the signers of the PNAC's Statement of Principals are Jewish and vicious arab haters. Also many of them have worked in the Bush administration. Israel comes into play mainly because it is part of evangelical Christianity's recipe for armageddon, and evangelicals have a very strong voice in the Republican party. The Jewish influence in America and in this debate, pales in comparison to that."
"Simply making the contention that the war is an Israeli plot is not inherently anti-Semetic. First of all, why the jews cornered the market on being semetic eluded me but besides that, anti-Semite is thrown around to anyone who says anything about Israel. I wouldn't go so far as say it's a plot but our affiliation with Israel and our foreign policy in the mideast in general is why we have terrorism. It's not because they hate our freedom and it's not about oil."
"I am probably going to get shouted down for saying this, but quite frankly, i dont care about being called anti-semetic anymore. It has no meaning. If I say anything even slightly critical of an Israeli or Jew, I am automatically labelled an anti-semite. Quite frankly, good, yes, I am anti-semetic then. If thats what i am if i say anything critical about them, then a anti-semite I am."
"According to the settler movement, evangelists and do-gooders, yes, you are an anti-semite. ;)"
"No worries, as soon as you right-wing fundie settler asshole jews stop acting like nazi's we will stop calling you Nazi's. Your use of the word anti-semitism has made it meaningless. If to criticise a Jewish person is anti-semitic, then I am indeed a proud anti-semite."
"And anybody with a brain can see that crying "anti-semitism" is a cowards way of avoiding real discussion about Israel and it's influence on America."
"I never thought i would say this, but I think I know what people meant by "the jews bring it on themselves over and over again"."
"The way the Israelis are acting at the moment is fascist buddy. And if Jewish people want to be equated with Israelis, then fine, deal with the blowback. The jewish culture is all about sticking together and helping each other out. That is why the jewish people have often been very successful. But the side-product of sticking together and being insular, is that the rest of the community sees you as one block, thus if people do fucked up shit that pissed people off, people tend to blame all jews. I have no problem with Jews, the jewish faith or customs. I do have a problem with Israel, right-wing fundies and insularity of communities."
"Holocaust was 60 years ago, cant cash in sympathy with that any more. What Israel is doing to the palestinian people is also disgusting, not as vulgar as Nazi germany, but still not ok. I'll say it again: I have no problem with Jews. I have a problem with Israelis. Not all Israelis, the right-wing Israelis. I hope they all die."
"Please read my post after you gut it for spelling, grammar and punctuation errors. You Neo-con, jewish Nazi."
"What I was trying to say there is if you always play the victim, you up your chances of actually being the victim."
"Look up anti-Semitism in the dictionary. Apparently this word doesn't mean what you think it means."
"Why does the U.S. want to protect Israel?"
"Israel != Jews. Judaism is a religion. Israel is a country. You can hate Israel without hating jews. If you want to equate Jews and Israel as being the same thing, well, ok, but not a good strategy."
"On that note, time for a jewish joke. What's the difference between a jew and a canoe? Canoes don't control the banks and the media. I kid."
"There is a little bit of truth in every joke....."
"I have no problem with Israel existing. I do have a problem with illegal settlements on the West Bank and them wanting jerusalem all for themselves."
