Federal jury convicts man for defacing Michigan synagogue with swastika, other graffiti
[IsraelTimes] A federal jury has convicted a man on two counts for defacing one of Michigan’s oldest synagogues with a swastika and other graffiti in 2019, prosecutors say Thursday.

Nathan Weeden, 23, of Houghton has been found guilty of conspiring against rights and damaging religious property, prosecutors say.

According to prosecutors, swastikas and symbols associated with The Base, a white supremacist group, were sprayed on the outside of Temple Jacob in Hancock in the Upper Peninsula. Weeden and co-conspirators dubbed their plan "Operation Kristallnacht," which means "Night of Broken Glass" and refers to November 9-10, 1938, when Nazis killed Jews and burned their homes, synagogues, schools and places of business.

"This defendant shamelessly desecrated Temple Jacob when he emblazoned swastikas — a symbol of extermination — on their Temple walls," Assistant Attorney General Kristen Clarke of the US Justice Department’s Civil Rights Division says in a news release. "Such conduct is unacceptable and criminal under any circumstances but doing so in furtherance of a self-described ’Operation Kristallnacht’ conspiracy is beyond disgraceful."

A message seeking comment was left with Weeden’s attorney.

Two co-conspirators of Weeden were previously convicted in the case.

The construction of Temple Jacob was completed in 1912.

Female driver goes on rampage in Maryland, hitting five random people with her car and stabbing three others in 90mins of carnage: Cops liken the panic to the hunt for the DC sniper in 2002
[Daily Mail, where America gets its news] Not WOT, yet.
  • The terrifying 90-minute ordeal unfolded just 10 minutes from Washington DC on Thursday evening

  • The woman, whose identity has not been revealed, was arrested later that night

  • The local police chief compared the panic felt in Maryland to the search for the DC sniper in 2002

ABC7news adds:
A woman is in custody after Prince George's County police said she struck five people with a car and stabbed two people -- including a 15-year-old -- in separate incidents in Landover, Lanham, and Capitol Heights on Thursday night.

The suspect, identified as 31-year-old Tanay Stallings-Brown of Baltimore, has been charged with dozens of offenses including multiple counts of attempted first-degree murder, assault, and additional charges related to striking the pedestrians.

According to officials, the incidents appear random, though they stressed that the investigation is still preliminary.

During a press conference Friday, PGPD Chief Malik Aziz said Stallings-Brown has a criminal record with multiple offenses dating back to 2011 in Baltimore.

“In my more than three decades of policing – almost three and a half – I've rarely seen a suspect this determined across this length to inflict harm on innocent people,” Chief Aziz said.

Officials are still working to determine a motive in these incidents.

“We have really no idea why she was here in Prince George’s County,” Chief Aziz said.

Trump Vows Appeal Of $88.3m Carroll 'witch Hunt' Verdict
[Newsmax] Donald Trump took to Truth Social to excoriate the $88.3 million verdict against him in the E. Jean Carroll
... whose suit is funded by Reid Hoffman, the billionaire LinkedIn co-founder who is also a major donor to the Democratic Party...
defamation case on Friday and vowed an appeal, calling it a "Biden directed witch hunt."

A federal jury ordered Trump to pay damages to Carroll for allegedly destroying her reputation as a trustworthy journalist after she accused him in 2019 of raping her nearly three decades ago.

Another jury last May ordered Trump to pay Carroll $5 million over a similar October 2022 denial, finding that he had defamed and sexually abused Carroll. Trump is appealing that decision.

"Absolutely ridiculous! I fully disagree with both verdicts, and will be appealing this whole Biden Directed Witch Hunt focused on me and the Republican Party. Our Legal System is out of control, and being used as a Political Weapon. They have taken away all First Amendment Rights. THIS IS NOT AMERICA!" Trump posted very shortly after the verdict came down.

Carroll was seeking at least $10 million more in this trial and awarded more than eight times that. This trial was solely to determine how much more Trump should pay to Carroll.

Carroll, 80, sued Trump in November 2019 over his denials five months earlier that he had raped her in the mid-1990s in a Bergdorf Goodman department store dressing room in Manhattan.

Trump, 77, claimed that he had never heard of Carroll, and that she made up her story to boost sales of her memoir.

His lawyers said Carroll was hungry for fame and enjoyed the attention from supporters for speaking out against her nemesis.

Another jury last May ordered Trump to pay Carroll $5 million over a similar October 2022 denial, finding that he had defamed and sexually abused Carroll. Trump is appealing that decision.

In the current trial, Carroll had sought at least $10 million more, saying Trump had "shattered" her reputation as a respected journalist who told the truth.

She also sought punitive damages, in part to keep Trump from repeating his denials.

U.S. District Judge Lewis Kaplan, who oversaw both trials, said the earlier verdict was binding for the second trial, meaning the only issue for jurors was how much Trump should pay.

Trump, a Republican, has tapped into outrage over Carroll's case and his other legal travails to bolster his campaign to retake the White House in the November election in a likely showdown against Democrat Joe Biden, who beat him in 2020.

Trump faces 91 felony counts in four criminal indictments, including two cases accusing him of trying to illegally overturn his 2020 election loss. He has pleaded not guilty in all of the cases, and has portrayed himself as the victim of politically motivated lies and an out-of-control judicial system.

During the Carroll trial, Trump was heard saying in court that the case was a "con job" and "witch hunt" and that he still did not know who Carroll was, prompting the judge to twice admonish him to keep quiet.

Trump stormed out of the courtroom during the closing argument on Friday by Carroll's lawyer, Roberta Kaplan, but returned for his own lawyer's argument.

Kaplan, who is not related to the judge, had argued that Trump acted as though he wasn't bound by the law.

"This trial is about getting him to stop, once and for all," she added. "Now is the time to make him pay for it dearly."

Trump's lawyer Alina Habba countered that it was the publication of excerpts from Carroll's memoir in New York magazine that triggered the attacks, not Trump's denials that began five hours later.

She also argued that Carroll enjoyed her newfound fame and was "happier than ever," citing her testimony that she had entered a "cocoon of love" from her supporters.

A Northwestern University damages expert who testified on Carroll's behalf estimated the reputational harm from Trump's statements was $7.3 million to $12.1 million.

On Thursday, Trump spent only four minutes defending himself on the witness stand after Judge Kaplan forbade him and his lawyers from revisiting issues that the first trial had settled.

Trump was allowed to confirm his October 2022 deposition testimony, which jurors had been shown, in which he called Carroll's claims a "hoax" and said she was "mentally sick."

Carroll wrote the "Ask E. Jean" column for Elle from 1993 to 2019, and often appeared on such programs as NBC's "Today" and ABC's "Good Morning America." She said those appearances dried up because of Trump.

#1  I don't know what - if anything - happened in that department store. But the case was poorly defended. A first-grade lawyer would have destroyed Carroll and her accusation. She didn't know which year, which season (spring or fall) the alleged things happened. She has two friends testifying that she called them soon after. And that's pretty much all.

His then lawyer should never have allowed Trump's deposition. And there's something you should never say when you are a New York socialite: "I have never met her." Because you probably did without remembering. You meet thousands of women, and they may have a picture. And then you look like a liar. Never say anything that might be disproven easily.

There's not much Alina Habba could have done in this case except making it worse. Much worse. Mission accomplished. You don't anger a judge and the jury by showing your incompetence frequently. Even if that's what your client wanted you to do.

What to expect from this year's rare double brood of cicadas
[BBC] Two broods of cicadas are due to emerge from the ground this April at the same time for the first time in 200 years. It's going to be loud, messy and very interesting.

The last time an event like this happened, Thomas Jefferson was President of the United States – and it's going to be deafening.

Trillions of periodical cicadas are due to make an appearance across the Midwest and Southeast of America this spring, after spending more than a decade burrowed underground. This year, two broods of flying cicadas will emerge at the same time, and it will be the first time they have emerged simultaneously since 1803.

Periodical cicadas have an incredibly long life cycle, unlike their non-periodical brethren which mature each summer. After hatching, the immature periodical cicadas, called nymphs, spend either 13 or 17 years underground, feeding on roots, before squirming their way above ground and transforming into adult cicadas.

The 17-year Brood XIII is due to emerge in Northern Illinois, and the 13-year Brood XIX will emerge in parts of the southeastern US. Both events are due to begin in late April. And for those in the right spot, there is a small area where the broods may potentially overlap. According to researchers at the University of Connecticut, the greatest likelihood of contact between the two broods is in small patches of woodland around Springfield, Illinois.

...Cicada expert and professor emeritus of biology at Mount St Joseph University in Ohio, Gene Kritsky‘s passion has inspired other Americans to document cicadas – half a million videos and photographs have been uploaded to Kritsky's citizen science app Cicada Safari, which he launched in 2019.

Across the US, there are 12 broods of 17-year cicadas, and three broods of 13-year cicadas.

Groups that share the same emergence years are called broods and are labelled by Roman numerals. Broods are complex groups of different species that emerge in different parts of the country at the same time. Exactly why they become synchronised in this way, however, is still the subject of great scientific debate.

“The Northern Illinois Brood has been reported to be a pretty dense brood," says Mike Raupp, a professor emeritus at the University of Maryland's entomology department. "And the Great Southern Brood is very widespread and reaches high densities in many locations. So, he adds, in the area of overlap in Illinois, the density of cicadas could be immense.

The next time Broods XIX and XII emerge together it will be 2245.

Two Combat Disabled Veterans Came Home to a Nation in Crisis, So They Launched a Prepper Beef Company
[Breitbart] The following content is sponsored by Prepper All-Naturals.

American military personnel overseas make tremendous sacrifices from afar for our nation. While deployed, they often gain new perspectives that they bring home with them. Such is the case for Jason Nelson and Benjamin Riley who retired from the U.S. Army after being deployed across the Middle East.

What they found when they came home concerned them. Through their roles in civil affairs, they had to help stabilize communities that were in crisis. What they saw there is echoing through events they see happening in the United States today.

“I’ve been to other countries where there was a supply chain breakdown, and it doesn’t take war to break it,” Nelson said. “Once that happens, most become 100 percent dependent on government assistance, and that comes with massive strings attached.”

The two disabled veterans formed Prepper All-Naturals, a company that specializes in high-quality freeze-dried beef for long-term storage. But they knew they didn’t want to sell “beef crumbles” or the scraps other companies sell as “beef chunks,” so they became the first company to offer shelf-stable high-end cuts such as Ribeye, NY Strip, and Tenderloin.

Nelson and Riley believe our food supply chain is in jeopardy. With food processing plants mysteriously being destroyed, bird flu continuing to spread, trains derailed, cattle herds dying suddenly, and an incessant push by globalists for bugs and lab-grown meat, it’s clear that America could be on the verge of a major food crisis.

Leadership Of Major US Landowner Smithfield Foods is Chock-Full Of Chinese Communist Party Members
[DailyCaller] Top executives at Hong Kong-based WH Group Limited, the world’s largest pork producer that controls vast swaths of U.S. farmland through its American subsidiary, are Chinese Communist Party (CCP) members, according to a Daily Caller News Foundation review of corporate records and state-run media reports.

Records and reports reviewed by the DCNF identify four top executives and the chairman of the pork giant as CCP members with extensive ties to the Chinese government. WH Group controls nearly 150,000 acres of land across 29 U.S. states through its subsidiary Smithfield Foods, a family-run business established in 1936, which it purchased for $7.1 billion in 2013. While a keyword search on Smithfield’s website returned only two articles mentioning the firm’s relationship with WH Group, neither of the two articles mentioned China. An online map of Smithfield’s global business activities does not list any operations in, or connection to, Asia, despite archived reports from their website suggesting otherwise.

Revelations about WH Group’s CCP and Chinese government ties, which the DCNF found by cross-referencing the firm’s roster with Chinese-language news reports and corporate records, come as Republicans push for bans on Chinese rural land purchases, in particular, those close to U.S. military bases.

Several states, including Florida, have taken legislative and executive action to ban Chinese ownership of U.S. farmland. Recently, Missouri Gov. Mike Parson issued an executive order banning such purchases near military installations. GOP lawmakers also recently pressed the Biden administration to launch an investigation into the second-largest foreign owner of U.S. land after his CCP membership came to light.

“No foreign government should be owning American farmland,” said Matt Shoemaker, a former Defense Intelligence Agency officer who is running for Congress in North Carolina as a Republican. “It is a national security issue, for obvious reasons.”

WH Group’s chairman, Wan Long, as well as multiple board members and some senior management were identified as CCP members in a 2022 Chinese-language stock exchange filing from a subsidiary called Shuanghui Investment and Development Co. (SIDC). WH Group and Chinese corporate records from SIDC also show that WH Group’s chairman and several top executives hold, or previously held, Chinese government positions.

Between 2010 and 2021, the amount of U.S. land owned by Chinese entities skyrocketed from 13,730 acres to 383,935 acres, according to USDA reports.

Malaria is a huge problem in Africa. Used to be in America also, but we drained swamps and put up windows screens. And splashed DDT around like it was holy water.

Once upon a time, the World Health Organization had a great reputation for combating diseases like smallpox and polio. That mission may no longer be operative, similar to how our Center for Disease Control lost focus when they morphed into the Center for Disease Control and Prevention.

A Corp would never dump that much R&D into anything without presenting a high probability for success to a regulating body, already knowing the potential down sides. this has been going on for decades. Why do we have so many global variants of a generic drug, variants which can not be purchased in the USA? China Claims Citizens Will Take 9 Billion Passenger Trips for Lunar New Year
[Breitbart] China’s Spring Festival was one of the biggest travel seasons in the world before the Wuhan coronavirus pandemic, and on Thursday, the state-run Global Times anticipated it will return to its full glory this year, with more than 9 billion passenger trips to be taken during the next 40 days.

The population of Earth is estimated to be around 8 billion people.

“From jam-packed transportation hubs to the hustle and bustle seen in markets nationwide, the anticipated booming [Lunar] New Year holidays are poised to continue the country’s steady recovery while ushering in a lively 2024,” the Global Times wrote, trying to inject some optimism into a somewhat gloomy economic picture.

NK Elite ruling class is failing.
It's really the old korean royal class system hiding behind communism. It can only prop up the false image so long.

The 1984 style constant war footing has run its course.

Questions: If the powers that be, decide to hand over guard and enforcement duties to auto-trons and a Automated Robot goes overboard, KILLS a Looter, or Burglar during it enforcement process?

Will the robot, the designer, the owner, the operational support staff all stand trial for Homicide?

How long before we see A.I, or a new whacked out Nut Job Special Interest group collecting $$$y and protesting and demanding Robot Emancipation?.

Will see see A.I. assume the role of a Reverend and start demanding Robot Civil Rights?

Germany's new rifle ‘inaccurate in battle'
[Yahoo] The German army’s new assault rifle is not accurate enough and cannot be relied upon to work properly in battle, according to a classified report.

The Bundeswehr was forced to lower testing standards for its G95A1 after it failed to pass trials using military-standard ammunition, said the report, which was sent to the Bundestag by Germany’s national audit office.

“Current testing by the army in laboratory conditions shows that the weapon doesn’t meet army standards when loaded with combat ammunition,” said the review, which was first revealed by Der Spiegel news magazine.

“The army requires an assault rifle that is sufficiently accurate under real conditions with its combat ammunition,” the report said. The defence ministry, it added, “can no longer ensure this... due to a modified contract with the weapon manufacturer”.

The army’s procurement department allowed gunmaker Heckler & Koch to test the weapon using civilian ammunition, rather than the same cartridges used by the army.

Testing was also allowed to take place at room temperature rather than at extreme temperatures.

The rifle has been ordered as a replacement for the G36, which was also built by Heckler & Koch and became mired in scandal during its service life.

The G36 extensively utilises plastic in its construction, but German troops serving in Afghanistan began complaining that their weapons would lose accuracy after sustained firing.

The defence ministry’s investigation found that, during shooting, a plastic channel that the barrel sits in would heat up and become soft, leaving it out of alignment.

In 2015, a Bundeswehr survey found that only 8 per cent of German soldiers trusted their weapons, and Ursula von der Leyen, then defence minister, ditched the G36.

Germany’s army of 180,000 soldiers was supposed to start receiving their new weapon next year.

The country’s latest small arms problems come as it struggles to re-equip an army that the defence minister has admitted is ill-prepared for war.

Concerns over the new weapon’s accuracy are not shared among the country’s troops, Der Spiegel reported.

Germany’s elite KSK troops are equipped with the G95A1 and have had no complaints, the magazine reported.

Boris Pistorius, Germany’s defence minister who has been in office for a year, has pledged to make the army “war fit” after reports emerged that it only had enough ammunition to fight a war for two days.

However, his attempts to reshape a defence force blighted by sclerotic bureaucracy and outdated equipment have so far failed to produce major results.

#1  If you cannot trust "Made in Germany" what can you trust?
Posted by: Grom the Reflective || 01/27/2024 0:52 Comments || Top||

#2  OK, so it's based on the HK416, which the Navy Seals use in preference to other variants of the same M4 derived carbine.

That means the lack of accuracy probably stems from one of the "improvements" made to the existing design. That happens a lot in the world of military firearms.

#3  when loaded with combat ammunition

I was thinking .223 vs 5.56 velocities, and tumbling.

#4  I have no idea why any military would be firing commercial .223 rounds in their carbines. Those are chambered for 5.56x43 NATO.
