Horrifying moment Ohio cops fire hail of bullets at hijackers, 54 and 51, after they kidnapped trucker in his semi-truck, led cops on a three-hour chase and held him hostage: Suspects die in hospital
[Daily Mail, where America gets its news]
  • A man and woman were pulled over for driving without rear lights in Ohio

  • After misidentifying themselves they fled and stole an occupied semi truck

  • Hours later after a chase through several counties the truck was brought to a halt

  • The truck driver was rescued but the man and woman were shot and both died

#1  Dayyum. For years now I've been sleeping in my vehicle at Ohio truckstops, figuring with all the lights and people I would be unlikely to get into trouble. This incident draws attention to all the vehicles parked at truck stops with or without the driver inside. All too easy for a couple to dodge police pursuers, zig zag through a parking lot, force their way into an idling vehicle, perhaps abduct the driver and hijack the vehicle. I wonder if this will catch on.

#2  More likely if the assailants did not end up dead in this case. Stand your ground should apply for Ohio truckers.

Florida sting targeting child sex exploitation finds nearly 40% of arrestees in US illegally
[FoxNews] Operation Cross County XIII was a nationwide operation and located 59 missing minors

Florida officials said Wednesday that nearly 40% of the people arrested in one part of the state in a recent operation cracking down on child sex exploitation were in the U.S. illegally — amid continued concerns from Republicans about criminals and sex offenders coming in across the southern border.

Officials said that seven out of 19 people arrested in Bay County, Florida, were in the country illegally. Five have no record showing lawful entry into the U.S. One man was admitted on a B-2 visitors visa that expired in 2021, and another was admitted on a J-1 student visa that also expired in 2021.

Of those arrested in Bay County, 14 were arrested for traveling to engage in sexual activity with a minor. Five were arrested for possession of child pornography.

Operation Cross Country XIII was a nationwide operation involving the FBI and Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Homeland Security Investigations (HSI). Nationally it led to the identification or arrest of 126 suspects of child sexual exploitation and human trafficking offenses.

That operation also located 59 missing children during the two-week operation.

"Sex traffickers exploit and endanger some of the most vulnerable members of our society and cause their victims unimaginable harm," Attorney General Merrick Garland said in a statement announcing the results of the national operation. "This operation, which located 59 actively missing children, builds on the tremendous work the FBI has undertaken over many years to rescue minor victims and arrest those responsible for these unspeakable crimes."

In the operation headquartered in Bay County, the operation was held over a three-day period in July and involved cooperation between the FBI, HSI and Florida law enforcement.

Those arrested are the latest illegal immigrants to be tied to sex offenses, amid an ongoing national debate about the border crisis that the U.S. has been dealing with since 2021.

Republican critics, of whom Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis has been one of the loudest, have accused the Biden administration of making America less safe by adopting "open border" policies. Critics have noted the enormous number of migrants who have evaded Border Patrol. There were approximately 600,000 "gotaways" in FY 2022, officials have estimated.

The administration has denied the accusations, saying it is focused on rebuilding an asylum system decimated by the prior administration, while narrowing the focus of its ICE agents to focus on illegal immigrants who are public safety and national security threats. It has also called on Congress to pass a sweeping immigration reform bill and provide additional funding as it has requested. It has also touted its anti-smuggling operations in the U.S. and with international partners.

Last week, Border Patrol Chief Jason Owens said that agents had encountered three sex offenders in a single day.

On Thursday, Texas Department of Public Safety announced that its troopers had arrested an illegal immigrant from Mexico for the possession or promotion of child pornography.

California 7-Eleven workers take matters into their own hands — stop brazen thief filling TRASH CAN with tobacco
[Daily Mail, where America gets its news] He should have known tobacco was bad for him.
Firings in 3, 2, 1...
  • The thief was clearing the shelves in the store and throwing cigarettes and tobacco items into a trash can

  • A stunned onlooker filmed the incident and encouraged the employees to wait until the police arrived

  • The workers eventually had enough and came together to restrain the suspect after hitting him with a large wooden stick

Shoplifting has reached unprecedented levels across America with brazen thieves strolling out of stores with their arms full of stolen goods.

The National Retail Federation said that the scourge - which grew worse during the pandemic - cost the industry almost $100billion in 2022.

David Johnston, who represents the organization, said: 'These acts are occurring more openly and thieves have become more brazen and aggressive in stealing merchandise.

Meghan Markle backed for White House run by Joe Biden's sister, Valerie: report
[NYPOST] Looks like the idea of seeing Princess Meghan Markle
...unlikable American former starlet married to the formerly likable Prince Harry. Chock full of lefty political opinions, Markle's most important characteristic is that she is Black, even though she doesn't look it. Her mother, y'see, is half black and her father is white, which would make her a quarter Black. Her half brother described her (to her husband, before their marriage) as a jaded, shallow, conceited woman that will make a joke of you and the royal family heritage. Once married, she was too good for the Royals and she and Harry decamped to Beverly Hills, kind of like the Clampetts did, thus making a joke of Harry and the royal family heritage...
in the Oval Office might not be so far-fetched after all.

President Biden’s sister, Valerie Biden Owens, has reportedly "endorsed" the "Suits" alum as a woman she would back for the White House, according to the Daily Mail.

The Duchess of Sussex, 41, has long been rumored to have been eyeing a career in politics, with unconfirmed reports suggesting she’s been forging connections with top Democrats since quitting royal life in 2020.

And it looks like Markle might have a way into 1600 Pennsylvania Ave. if she was to launch a career in politics.

Biden Owens, a veteran political strategist and campaign manager for her brother, has spoken out about her keenness for the mom of two to venture into politics, previously agreeing that Markle would "make a good presidential candidate one day."

Proving that to indeed be the case, Markle tops a current poll of Democrats asking which woman they would vote for, according to the outlet.

Tolkien Aficionado Builds ‘Hobbit House' in the South of France
[Epoch Times] Like a piece of the Shire that fell out of a Tolkien novel, Katherine’s hobbit-inspired home emerged from the ruins of an old stone wall once buried in overgrowth in a French forest. Inside and out, an Art Nouveau motif depicts magical Celtic beasts on cob walls. An earthen, living roof, and big green front door complete the fantasy feel.
Several interesting photos, and 'the rest of the story', at the link.

-Land of the Free
Army general tried to hunt down whistleblower who criticized Biden admin
[Mil News] Lt. Gen. Maria Gervais, Army Training and Doctrine Command Deputy Commander, and Army Maj. Jessica Dawson, a West Point associate professor, used their authority and government access in an attempt to unofficially investigate and punish an active-duty whistleblower for criticizing the Biden administration and various Army leaders.

According to private text messages and emails obtained by Breitbart News, Gervais and Dawson used official government resources to hunt for the anonymous whistleblower, identify them, and have them punished for speaking against the Biden administration and Army leadership, despite a lack of evidence.

Despite lacking evidence, Gervais and Dawson reportedly labeled the whistleblower an "insider threat" and repeatedly accused him of serving as "counterintelligence." Breitbart News noted that the accusations by Gervais and Dawson were seemingly used as an effort to involve the Army Criminal Investigative Division (CID), which has the power as an independent agency to investigate serious felonies.

According to Pat Wier, a Navy reservist and civilian defense attorney, an investigation by CID would first require the designation of a significant threat. He described Gervais and Dawson’s accusations as "wrongful."

"His alleged actions did not rise to the level of a serious crime, or any crime at all," Wier said. Instead, Breitbart reported that based on private communications, the investigation seems to have been an attempt by military officials to utilize government powers to punish the whistleblower for political dissent.

According to Breitbart, Gervais and Dawson’s investigation lasted almost a year, aided by current and former progressive military members. The investigation resulted in the public identification of the suspected whistleblower, an Army general’s former aide filing an inspector general complaint against the whistleblower, and the inspector general’s system being politically weaponized against the whistleblower’s social media posts that criticized the Biden administration.

The inspector general complaint resulted in a 15-6 investigation into the whistleblower, which led to Army Chief Warrant Officer 2 Samuel Shoemate being charged for violating Army Regulation 600-20 by "posting derogatory and disrespectful images/memes on multiple social accounts ... towards different Senior Officials and Military Leaders."

#1  Any involvement or investigation outside CW2 Shoemate's immediate chain of command would have been inappropriate and possible a violation of the UCMJ.

#5  M. Murcek, it only applies to officials currently in office. So if Milley said something contemptuous about Trump after Trump had left office, it wouldn't count.
BTW, from what I understand, Article 88 also applies to regular RETIRED officers - in theory they can be recalled to active duty and court martialed. For some reason, it doesn't seem to apply to retired reserve officers, so I can say anything I want about Biden, Harris, and all the other idiots in command.

Second Amendment: 48 Consecutive Months of One Million+ Gun Sales
[Breitbart] National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS) numbers released by the FBI at the end of July show the U.S. has enjoyed four years of one million-plus gun sales a month.

The National Shooting Sports Foundation (NSSF) goes through the FBI’s figures following their release each month, and Public Affairs Manager Director Mark Oliva commented on the July 2023 numbers, saying:

This is a remarkable milestone of four continuous years of over 1 million background checks for the sale of a firearm. That’s no small achievement and is indicative of the strong and sustained appetite for law-abiding Americans to take ownership of their Second Amendment rights. It also shows the resilience of the firearm and ammunition industry to meet this continued demand for high-quality firearms that today’s gun owner expects.

Oliva added:

This milestone was achieved in the midst of the continuous attacks by the Biden administration which has demonstrated nothing but contempt for the Second Amendment and has twisted the levers of government to impede the ability of law-abiding citizens to legally possess firearms of their choosing. Americans are sending a clear signal each and every month. The Second Amendment right to keep and bear arms is not up for negotiation.”

The FBI data shows there were 2,015,789 background checks in July 2023, and the NSSF determined 1,023,903 of those checks were for gun purchases and/or transfers.

Musk: 'They Are Openly Pushing for Genocide of White People in South Africa'
[Gateway] The day after radical leftist Economic Freedom Fighter (EFF) leader Julius Malema sang the "struggle song" "Kill the Boer" in Johannesburg’s full 90.000 seat FNB Stadium, a 79-year old farmer was brutally murdered and his wife severely injured. Elon Musk said "they are openly pushing for genocide" in South Africa.

There were already 5 farm attacks in four days before Malema’s inflammatory speech, as Gateway reported. The day after the speech, on July 30, 79-year-old farmer Theo Bekker was brutally tortured and murdered on a farm in the Grootvlei area in Mpumalanga province (formerly known as East Transvaal). He was severely beaten with a pipe before his throat was slit. The four attackers, between 16 and 19, then severely assaulted his wife, Marlinda. The attackers fled with four firearms in Marlinda’s vehicle before losing control of the vehicle and crashing. All four were arrested.

On August 1, an elderly male victim was murdered in Biesiesvlei, North West province, after the front door was broken down, according to Afriforum security spokesman Jacques Broodryk. There were 9 farm attacks and 2 murders July 22-30, Broodryk said.

Given DC helps the world leaders pockets out, to the tune of about $60.4+/- Billion a year in aid. That equals about $103.6K / per homeless person, for the estimated 580K homeless.

Or, $1.5 Million to treat / house each of the DC-Gov estimated 400K seriously Mentally ill Homeless a year that pose a danger to others and themselves?

Vogtle 3 begins commercial operation
[WorldNuclearNews] The USA's first newly constructed nuclear power plant in more than 30 years is now serving customers - it reached first criticality in March, was connected to the electricity grid in April and is now officially generating electricity for customers, Georgia Power has announced.

Georgia Power Chairman, President and CEO Kim Greene said the achievement was a "testament" to the company's commitment to building a reliable and resilient energy future and "marks the first day of the next 60 to 80 years that Vogtle Unit 3 will serve our customers with clean, reliable energy".

Work started on two Westinghouse AP1000 pressurised water reactor (PWR) units at the Vogtle site, near Waynesboro, in 2013. Southern Nuclear and Georgia Power, both subsidiaries of Southern Company, took over management of the construction project in 2017 following Westinghouse's Chapter 11 bankruptcy. Bechtel Inc was contracted to manage day-to-day construction.

The announcement comes days after the US Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) issued a so-called 103(g) finding authorising fuel loading and the start of operations at Vogtle 4, which is now in the final stages of construction and testing. The 157 fuel assemblies that will make up the first core are already on site, and the unit is projected to be enter service late this year or during the first quarter of 2024.

"We can do new nuclear energy in America, and we must continue to do new nuclear in America," said Westinghouse President and CEO Patrick Fragman. "The lessons-learned, and the experience gained through these vital units at Vogtle, as well as the competencies and capabilities we built with our supply chain, prepare Westinghouse well for continued new nuclear units to address our climate change and energy security objectives."

According to Westinghouse, the AP1000's proven technology, leveraging modular design and construction methods, offers the benefits of Nth-of-a-kind status with a global fleet and a mature supply chain, improving the economics and mitigating schedule risks for future customers. Four AP1000s are already in operation in China, where six further reactors are under construction. The reactor has recently been selected by Poland for its nuclear energy programme and is earmarked for construction at the Kozloduy site in Bulgaria. Ukraine is planning to build up to nine AP1000 units.

Vogtle is already home to two operating PWRs. Once all four units are online, it will become the largest generator of clean energy in the USA, Georgia Power said.

Vogtle units 3 and 4 are co-owned by Georgia Power, Oglethorpe Power, MEAG Power and Dalton Utilities, and will be operated by Southern Nuclear.

#2  The eye watering over time and budget on this project is a testament to everything that is wrong with American business and gummint regulatory apparatus. Many lessons here that have probably been totally ignored or mis-interpreted by all the usual suspects.

But, more, faster please...

#5  More than likely totally unrelated.
But my CDV-717 MOD1 has been reading 11+ to 13.2 rad/hr the last few days on my side of rural middle ga. and only 1 to 3 rad/hr traveling in to town. But given recent wind directions and the serious t-storms maybe SRP again.😈

That is equal to getting 24 MRI's, or is it CT's a day.

#7  Swear to G-d first time I took my boat in the sounds around Daufuskie and caught a flounder, I thought it was some creature from a Monty Burns nuke plant.

I won’t even mention, I’d brought the boat down from Lake Oconee and had no anchor, running down the beach as the tide swept it off was enlightening

Room Temperature Superconductor Experiments
[Science Alert] Last week, a group of South Korean physicists made a startling claim. In two papers uploaded to the arXiv preprint server, they say they have created a material that "opens a new era for humankind".

LK-99, a lead-based compound, is purportedly a room-temperature, ambient-pressure superconductor. Such a material, which conducts electricity without any resistance under normal conditions, could have huge implications for energy generation and transmission, transport, computing and other areas of technology.

The South Korean researchers say LK-99 can be made in a baking process that combines the minerals lanarkite (Pb₂SO₅) and copper phosphide (Cu₃P). They say the resulting material shows two key signs of superconductivity at normal air pressure and at temperatures up to 127 ℃: zero resistance and magnetic levitation.

They propose a plausible theory of how LK-99 might display room-temperature superconductivity, but have not provided definite experimental evidence. The data presented in the papers appear inconclusive.

One of the signatures of a superconductor is the Meissner effect, which causes it to levitate when placed above a magnet.

In a video demonstration, the researchers position a piece of LK-99 over a magnet. One edge of the flat disk of LK-99 rises, but the other edge appears to maintain contact with the magnet.

At present, all we know about LK-99 comes from the two arXiv papers, which have not been peer-reviewed. Both papers present similar measurements, though the presentation is unconventional. However, there are some differences in the content, and also in authorship, which does not inspire confidence.

So what happens now? The processes of science swing into action.
Climate Change Cultists take note:
Experts will closely review the papers. Researchers at other laboratories will attempt to reproduce the experiments described in the papers, and see whether they end up with a room-temperature superconductor.

These crucial steps are necessary to establish the validity and reliability of the LK-99 claims. If the claims are validated and confirmed, it could mark one of the most groundbreaking advancements in physics and materials engineering in the past few decades.
