Father, Son, 16 Others Charged With Trafficking Cocaine In Chicago Area
[Weasel Zippers] Eighteen people, including a father and son, have been charged with trafficking cocaine to hundreds of customers in the Chicago area and using drivers to make door-to-door cocaine deliveries.

The federal charges were part of a multi-year investigation into the drug trafficking called "Operation Flawed Deal," in which officers seized bank accounts, over a kilogram of cocaine, a Mercedes SUV, guns and multiple Chicago properties, according to a statement by the U.S. States Attorney office.

Many of the 18 defendants were arrested Thursday on charges that carry a maximum of 20 to 40 years in the prison, prosecutors said.

Father and son, Tony F. Cayuela, 64, and Tony J. Cayuela, 39, allegedly conspired with Walberto Olivio, 46, to distribute over half a kilogram of cocaine in the Chicago area in the spring and summer, according to prosecutors.

The feds forfeited three properties from the younger Cayuela ‐ two homes in Brighton Park and one in Chicago Lawn ‐along with $108,000 in cash, prosecutors said. Another man, Jesus Hernandez, 41, of Chicago, was also charged with distributing drugs.

Two brothers, Anees "Ace" Usmani, 41, and Nafees Usmani, allegedly worked together with Juan Bautista Dominguez, 41, to distribute over half a kilogram of cocaine in the Chicago area from the fall of 2017 to spring of 2018, prosecutors said.

The indictment lists several people charged with conspiring with the Usmani brothers: Alfonso "Fonz" Trotter, 48, of Chicago; Ronald Allen, 47, of Chicago; Muhammad Sabih, 30, of Chicago; Muhammad Bilal Khan, 24, of Chicago; Ahmed Fatah Kahn Malik, 24, of Skokie; Odeh Alshobaki, 22, of Worth; Ahmed Hussein Yousef Alsawalhi, 21, of Chicago; Wesam Abdel Fattah, 32, of Chicago; and Lisa Usmani, 41, of Lincolnwood.

Meet Africa's Industrialist of the Year
[IOL Business Report] JOHANNESBURG - An award-winning businessman has embraced the much-touted Fourth Industrial Revolution as a vehicle to help grow his already expanding global automation company.

The entrepreneur Quinton Uren, 53, from Nelson Mandela Bay, is founder and managing director of Jendamark Automation.

He was named Africa’s Industrialist of the Year during the All Africa Business Leaders Awards in Johannesburg in December.

He beat the likes of Nampak chief executive André de Ruyter, Likoebe Innovation Consultants founder Nneile Nkholise, and Thata uBeke Manufacturing chief executive Nana Sebelo, to claim the top spot.

The Port Elizabeth-based Jendamark Automation, which was established in 1992, exports manufacturing assembly solutions to 18 countries in Africa, Asia, Europe and North and South America.

The company’s exports account for more than 90 percent of the group’s business.

#4  One aspect I neglected to mention, Affirmative Action (Black Economic Empowerment or BEE in South Africa) certainly applies. Big firms can afford to sprinkle 'notional' minority executives into high-paid/high-visibility positions. Oftentimes Black entry is 'mandated' by the gov't. Sound familiar ?

Farmers don't generally have those types of positions or flexibility.

US sanctions putting denuclearization at risk: North Korea
[PRESSTV] North Korea has denounced the administration of US President Donald Trump

for stepping up sanctions and pressure on the nuclear-armed country, warning that disarming Pyongyang could be blocked forever.

The North Korean Foreign Ministry said in a statement on Sunday that the US Department of State was "bent on bringing the DPRK-US relations back to the status of last year, which was marked by exchanges of fire."

The statement added, "If the US administration believed that heightened sanctions and pressure would force Pyongyang to abandon its nuclear weapons, it would count as (its) greatest miscalculation, and it will block the path to denuclearization on the Korean peninsula forever - a result desired by no one."

Washington has resorted to "sanctions measures for as many as eight times against the companies, individuals and ships of not only the DPRK but also Russia, China and other third countries...," the statement included.

On Monday, the United States said it had introduced sanctions on three North Korean officials, including a top aide to North Korean leader Kim Pudge Jong-un

Silicon Valley in Iowa: congressman's fight for tech jobs in rural America
[Guardian] Ro Khanna, a California Democrat, pushes initiative in the state amid questions over his own political aspirations.

Ro Khanna is not running for president.

Unlike many of his colleagues in Congress, the Silicon Valley congressman was not in Iowa to test the waters for a White House run. His visit was decidedly more ambitious: to bridge the deepening economic divide between urban and rural America.

On a recent Saturday night, Khanna, a progressive Democrat who was recently re-elected in the diverse, deep-blue California district where Apple, Intel and Yahoo have headquarters, joined tech leaders here in Jefferson, an Iowa town of 4,200 people. It is located in a predominantly white, rural swath of the state represented by congressman Steve King, a far-right conservative whose questioning of Google’s CEO, Sundar Pichai, during a hearing on Capitol Hill this week fueled criticism that Congress doesn’t understand how technology giants operate.

The gulf between the two districts is precisely why Khanna came to Jefferson.

"The digital revolution is one that every community should and can participate in," he told an audience of local leaders and out-of-town tech industry executives.

They gathered in the town’s History Boy Theatre to learn about an initiative that promises to bring high-paying tech and software design jobs to Jefferson. If it succeeds, they believe the program could be a blueprint for revitalizing other rural communities.

Europe
Switzerland signs off on post-Brexit trade agreement with UK
[Local] Suspicions that Switzerland and the UK have been quietly working behind the scenes to draw up a post-Brexit economics and trade agreement have now been confirmed.

On Friday, the Swiss government announced it had signed off on the text of the new agreement it said should form the basis of business and trade relations between the two countries after the UK quits the European Union.

"This agreement guarantees, as far as possible, the continuation of the economic and commercial rights and obligations arising from the agreements between Switzerland and the EU," the Swiss Federal Council said in a statement.

Trade between Switzerland and the UK was worth 17.5 billion Swiss francs (€15.5 billion) last year. The UK was Switzerland’s sixth biggest export market in 2017 and its sixth largest direct investor in 2016.

Text still under wraps

The text of the new agreement remains under wraps for now because the UK is officially barred from negotiating with third countries until it leaves the EU.

But behind the scenes, there have been extensive talks between Bern and London and the arrival of the agreement won’t surprise observers in the Swiss and British business communities.

Those talks come in the context of a determined push to ensure there is as little disruption as possible in bilateral relations because of Brexit.

At present, these relations are chiefly based on a package of agreements between Switzerland and the EU. But after Brexit, those agreement will cease to apply and will need to be replaced.

Body of woman buried alive in well recovered after 30-hour operation
[DAWN] TAXILA: The body of a woman who was buried alive in a well on the premises of her home was recovered after a 30-hour search operation by Rescue 1122 officials.

Shabana Bibi, 38, was allegedly killed by her brothers Mohammad Farhan and Mohammad Kamran, who buried her alive in the well on Dec 4 and then filled it with debris to ’rid the family from evil forces’ on instructions from a local spiritual figure. The well was on the premises of their home in Banni Mohallah.

Speaking to press at the site of murder, investigating officer Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Mohammad Shahzad said Shabana Bibi’s mother left a tip regarding the presence of the body. She had said the victim was bundled into a blanket and thrown in the 300-metre deep well, which was then filled with debris.

He said the family had been ’treated’ by the spiritual figure as the doors, walls, windows and kitchen items had crosses on them, which according to the suspects in the case was to keep ’evil forces’ away from the house. ASI Shahzad said a dressing table mirror had also been blinded with white paint.

ASI Shahzad said Farhan and Kamran are in police custody. A murder case has been registered against them, and they have begun interrogations.

He added that although the body of the victim is mutilated, it has been taken to the Tehsil Headquarters Hospital for his appointment with Doctor Quincy.

It took around 30 hours to retrieve the body from the well, Rescue 1122 official Yasir Mehmood said, because the well was full of debris.

He said a number of rescue officials dug up the well, and dozens of oxygen cylinders were consumed in order to retrieve the body.

The victim’s uncle Abdul Lateef told the press that the suspects killed the victim because they believed she was under the influence of ’evil forces’ and wanted to protect the rest of the family.

He said both men’s wives had returned to their parents’ homes some time ago, and they also believed that the disturbance with their wives was because of their sister, and killed her to get rid of her.

7 booked after 22-year-old woman commits suicide over blackmail in Muzaffargarh
[DAWN] A case was registered against seven men on Sunday after their alleged blackmailing forced a 22-year-old woman in Punjab's Muzaffargarh district to take her own life, police said.

The victim, Alina*, was found hanging from the ceiling of a room in their house in Shehr-e-Sultan area of Muzaffargarh's Jatoi tehsil on Friday.

According to a first information report (FIR) registered on a complaint of Alina's mother, the primary suspect in the incident, who lived in the same area, wanted to marry the victim. The suspect, Zafar*, and his accomplices started threatening and blackmailing Alina after her family refused his marriage proposal around three months earlier.

On Thursday, December 13, some of Zafar's accomplices barged into the victim's house and threatened the family, saying Zafar possesses alleged compromising material concerning Alina that he would upload on social media if she was married off to someone else.

As the blackmail and harassment continued, Alina took the extreme step the next day by allegedly hanging herself from the ceiling using her dupatta, according to the FIR, a copy of which is available with Dawn.com.

The victim took her life because of the harassment and mental anguish she was subjected to by the suspects, her mother stated.

According to Station House Office Talib Babar, a case has been registered against the seven nominated suspects, including Zafar, under Section 322 (punishment for qatl-bis-sabab) of the Pakistain Penal Code at Police Station Shehr-e-Sultan.

Police are further investigating the incident.

The absurdly beastly 797-horsepower Dodge Challenger Hellcat Redeye
[Chicago Tribune] Why? This was the response of nearly everyone who encountered the 797-horsepower Dodge Challenger Hellcat Redeye. From the group of men clustered in the cold to hear that hellfire supercharged V-8 engine come to life, to the kids sprawled out on the wide rear seats of the retro muscle car, to the new owner of a 392-horsepower Challenger SRT: Why? Why build something so powerful for the street? Why buy something so powerful that you can only use it for all its worth on the drag strip?

The same interrogators came up with the same answer: Because you can. Because bigger, faster, more. Because America. Because 707-horsepower, which is now 717-horsepower for the 2019 Hellcat, is not as big as a 797-horsepower Redeye.

Because Dodge did. The lovely lunatics in the Street and Racing Technology (SRT) team at Dodge seem to have no end to squeezing more and more power out of the aging muscle car. If the Challenger were a dog, it would be due for its last trip to the vet before it ran off to the great field in the sky. The third-generation Challenger got its last full redesign in 2008, and a new one isn’t expected until 2020 or 2021, so it is riding on some old architecture. The Chevy Camaro has been redesigned twice in that time span, and maybe will get a third next year. Same with the Ford Mustang, if you count the 2010 model that used the same platform as the 2005.

[IsraelTimes] A Revolutionary Guard general who fought in Syria and Iraq has accidentally killed himself while cleaning a gun.
...almost as innocent as dying from a fall in the bathroom, which is why I put it on Page 3: Non-WoT despite his Lion of Islam status.
A Sunday report on the Guard’s website says Gen. Ghodratollah Mansouri earlier Sunday accidentally shot himself in the head while cleaning his pistol.
It’s clearly my complete inexperience in the subject that leads to my inability to imagine the biomechanics of the situation.
The report said Mansouri was veteran of the 1980s Iran-Iraq war and a "defender of the shrine," a reference to Iranians who fight the bad boy Islamic State

group in Syria and Iraq.

Since 2014, Mansouri was a regional commander of the Guard’s ground forces in the northeastern city of Mashhad, some 900 kilometers (nearly 560 miles) east of the capital Tehran.

Hundreds of Iranian forces have been killed fighting IS in Syria and Iraq.

Iran, the regional key supporter of Syria’s government, says its forces there only perform an advisory role.

The Embezzling Nuns From the Order That Helped Train Obama
[IOTReport] It was reported recently that a couple of nuns out in Southern California had ripped off the Catholic school where they worked for many years to the tune of at least $500,000. They spent the money on gambling sprees to Las Vegas, among other pursuits. The habit-less sisters, who were henned up together in a Torrance townhouse inside a gated community (the neighbors, according to the Los Angeles Times, wondered how they afforded their matching Volvos), hail from the Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet ‐ a "social justice" religious order, naturally.

But even richer than that, it is the order that played an important role in Obama’s Alinskyite education. It was at Mount St. Mary’s College in Los Angeles, a college founded by the Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet, that Obama went for a ten-day seminar in the 1980s to learn Saul Alinsky’s rules for radicals. As reported in No Higher Power: Obama’s War on Religious Freedom, the Gay Mafia socialist from Chicago, Cardinal Joseph Bernardin, paid for Obama’s trip out to Mount St. Mary’s College for that event.

The left-wing nuns in the order had long maintained a chapter for the Industrial Areas Foundation (IAF), a group of socialist agitators that Saul Alinsky established with the help of Chicago priests who would later honor Obama at Notre Dame. The sisters were happy to let Alinskyite activists use their campus in the summer to train the next generation of subversives.

According to Obama’s latest biographer, David Garrow, those ten days at Mount St. Mary’s, where Obama rubbed shoulders with radical priests and nuns, proved seminal in Obama’s political education: more here
