#2  Brazilian Federal Police are feared in Brazil. Like this lady did, they will shoot you in a heart beat. Graffiti every where except the military installations. The guards on the walls have chrome plated automatic weapons and will shoot anyone who starts to paint anything on the walls. People don't even use the sidewalks along the exterior of the walls.

Saw a military officer disciplining soldier in public. The officer was standing over the soldier as he was pulling grass out from between side walk panels one blade at a time for hours.

Shortly after Texas passed the open carry law, I went to Brazil and the young professionals there were asking me all about it. They desire at the very least the right to own a gun without government confiscation which can happen for no reason at all.

#3  Warning also. Street thugs usually work in pairs with one doing the bad deeds while a second stays slightly out of the picture. If the first thug gets into trouble his back up races in to promptly take out those resisting him.

#4  Lastly, Americano hostages are worth a lot of money to gangs in Brazilian favelas.

#5  In the video, notice the left leg sticking straight out and the criminal's inability to move it? One of the shots got the lower spine for sure on its way through. Completely blew out that major nerve nexus there. With that kind of damage, no surprise the criminal died.

I counted at least 3 shots, apparently all center mass but on the lower body. Adrenaline will make you overtighten the grip and make you shoot low (and left).

Good shoot by that cop.

-Short Attention Span Theater-
Great News from Charles Krauthammer! (Bret Baier Video)
[Fox via RightScoop] For those of us who are fans of the great Charles Krauthammer, we got some wonderful news today curtesy of Bret Baier about his condition, and possibly returning to the airwaves.

Krauthammer had to rest and recuperate after a scheduled surgery last year, and he hasn’t been back since then. Thankfully, he says the worst is behind him, and he’s hoping to recuperate quicker now.

AND he also got an award from Israel for his support of the U.S.-Israel alliance. Another great blessing on a historic day.

Harry Reid has Cancer
Former Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid
... the charismatic now retired senator-for-life from Nevada, formerly majority leader, who was beaten to within an inch of his life by a treadmill ...
has undergone surgery for pancreatic cancer.

The operation, first reported on Twitter by KLAS-TV journalist George Knapp and confirmed by a source close to the powerful former politician, took place Monday morning.

"They caught it early. The doctors believe it went well, and he is expected to make a full recovery," the source told The Nevada Independent.

Reid, 78, served for 30 years in the Senate before retiring following a debilitating eye injury. He was succeeded by Democratic Sen. Catherine Cortez Masto.

Along with Republican former House Speaker John It is not pronounced 'Boner!' Boehner
... the occasionally weepy former establishmentarian leader of House Republicans...
, Reid is co-chair of the nascent MGM Resorts International Public Policy Institute at UNLV.

#7  Pancreatic. Buh bye!

Not necessarily. If caught early (i.e. hasn't spread to other tissues yet) survival rates are much better today. But it is a severe surgery w/ removal of parts or all of the pancreas, stomach, gall bladder, and upper small intestines and then replumbing it all.

#14  Pancreatic cancer is a brutal and horribly painful way to die. I hate Harry Reid and everything he stood for, but not so much as to wish this sort of death on him.

Africa Subsaharan
Congo-Kinshasa: Nineteen Dead in Latest Congo Ebola Outbreak
[All Africa] An outbreak of Ebola in the Democratic Republic of the Congo
...formerly the Congo Free State, Belgian Congo, Zaire, and who knows what else, not to be confused with the Brazzaville Congo aka Republic of Congo, which is much smaller and much more (for Africa) stable. DRC gave the world Patrice Lumumba and Joseph Mobutu, followed by years of tedious civil war. Its principle industry seems to be the production of corpses. With a population of about 74 million it has lots of raw material...
has killed 19 people, according to the World Health Organization.

A total of 39 cases have been reported in the northwestern Equateur province, the WHO said Monday. The infected include three health care workers.

Congo's Ministry of Health and the WHO are tracing contacts of the victims and offering them an experimental Ebola vaccine.

The WHO says the vaccine, called rVSV-ZEBOV, has been been tested in thousands of volunteers in Europe, Africa and the United States and was judged safe for humans.

The virus, which causes a hemorrhagic fever, is spread by direct contact with the bodily fluids of an infected person or animal.

On Sunday, a WHO delegation including the agency's director, Dr. Tedros Adhanom Gehbreyesus, visited the town of Bikoro, the center of the current outbreak.

China's Xi, North Korea's Kim meet ahead of Trump summit
[Dhaka Tribune] Chinese President Xi Jinping and Kim Pudge Jong-un
...the overweight, pouty-looking hereditary potentate of North Korea. Pudge appears to believe in his own divinity, but has yet to produce any loaves and fishes, so his subjects remain malnourished...
met in northeast China on Tuesday in an unannounced visit by the North Korean leader ahead of an expected summit with US President Donald Trump
...New York real estate developer, described by Dems as illiterate, racist, misogynistic, and what ever other unpleasant descriptions they can think of, elected by the rest of us as 45th President of the United States...
Shortly after the meeting was made public, Trump tweeted that he would speak to his "friend" Xi about North Korea later on Tuesday.

Chinese state broadcaster CCTV showed Xi and Kim taking a seaside stroll in the northeastern city of Dalian and holding talks, while the official Xinhua news agency said the two leaders met on Monday and Tuesday.

It was Kim's second visit to China since March, highlighting efforts by the Cold War-era allies to mend ties that have chilled as Beijing has supported UN sanctions over Pyongyang's nuclear activities.

Beijing is keen to avoid being left out in the cold in the wake of Kim's historic summit last month with South Korean President Moon Jae-in and his expected meeting with Trump in June.

"After the first meeting between me and Comrade Chairman (Kim), both China-DPRK relations and the Korean peninsula situation have made positive progress. I feel happy about it," Xi said, according to Xinhua.

For his part, Kim was quoted as saying: "These are the positive outcomes of the historic meeting between me and Comrade General Secretary (Xi)."

And Trump tweeted that "the primary topics" of his discussion with Xi "will be Trade, where good things will happen, and North Korea, where relationships and trust are building."

UN chief welcomes North Korean plan to close nuclear site
[PRESSTV] United Nations
...an organization originally established to war on dictatorships which was promptly infiltrated by dictatorships and is now held in thrall to dictatorships...
Secretary General Antonio Guterres has hailed North Korea’s move to close its nuclear test site as an important step toward peace and denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula.

"I would like to welcome that and to say that the irreversible closure of the site will be an important confidence-building measure that will contribute to further efforts towards sustainable peace and verifiable denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula," Guterres said at a presser in the Austrian capital Vienna on Monday.

Pyongyang has announced that it will dismantle Punggye-ri test site by the end of May, just before a scheduled meeting between US President Donald Trump
...New York real estate developer, described by Dems as illiterate, racist, misogynistic, and what ever other unpleasant descriptions they can think of, elected by the rest of us as 45th President of the United States...

in Singapore on June 12.

"And I look forward to this positive momentum being consolidated at the summit between the leaders of the United States and North Korea," Guterres told news hounds.

Economy
Salt Lake City Tribune Cans One Third Of Newsroom Staff
Another chapter in the long, agonizing death of the newspaper industry.
In a radical restructuring of Utah’s largest newspaper, owner Paul Huntsman proceeded Monday with cutting 34 Salt Lake Tribune employees from a newsroom staff of 90, along with the elimination of key print sections and some well-known writers who were read for generations.

After sounding the alarm last Tuesday, Huntsman ‐ whose wealthy father, philanthropist and Tribune champion Jon Huntsman Sr., died Feb. 2 ‐ enacted a drastic reduction in costs at The Tribune in light of what he said were unexpectedly sharp declines in print circulation and advertising revenues since he bought the Salt Lake City-based publication in 2016.

Along with cutting one in every three newsroom employees, The Tribune will eliminate its high-profile Utah news section Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays, having already gone dark with its Monday version of the local news page. Remaining pages devoted to news, features, entertainment, business, sports and puzzles will all contract slightly.

Among those lost to loyal readers is longtime political reporter and columnist Paul Rolly, who voluntarily stepped aside 44 years after beginning his career as a Tribune copy clerk and cub reporter in the paper’s Main Street offices.

Trump defends intervention to help China telecom company ZTE
[Reuters] WASHINGTON - President Donald Trump on Monday defended his decision to revisit penalties for Chinese company ZTE Corp for flouting U.S. sanctions on trade with Iran, saying the telecom maker is a big buyer for U.S. suppliers.

Trump, known for his fiery rhetoric against Chinese trade practices he says hurt U.S. jobs, faced backlash from both Republican and Democratic lawmakers after he pledged to work with Chinese President Xi Jinping to help ZTE, saying too many jobs in China had been lost.

The company shut its main operations after the Commerce Department banned U.S. companies from selling components to ZTE for seven years after it violated the terms of a settlement deal for illegally shipping goods made with U.S. parts to Iran and North Korea.

"ZTE, the large Chinese phone company, buys a big percentage of individual parts from U.S. companies. This is also reflective of the larger trade deal we are negotiating with China and my personal relationship with President Xi," Trump said on Monday.

ZTE paid more than $2.3 billion to 211 U.S. exporters in 2017, a senior ZTE official said on Friday. U.S. companies are estimated to provide 25 percent to 30 percent of components used in ZTE’s smartphones, network gear and other products.
