[Right Scoop] Baltimore State's Attorney Marilyn Mosby plans to seek a protective order that would block the release of Freddie Gray's autopsy report and other "sensitive" documents as she prosecutes the six police officers involved in his arrest.
Mosby told The Baltimore Sun that prosecutors "have a duty to ensure a fair and impartial process for all parties involved" and "will not be baited into litigating this case through the media." We will handle it our way, the sharia tribal way. Now clear out, and take your white 'man's laws' with you.
But an attorney for one of the officers said the effort shows that "there is something in that autopsy report that they are trying to hide."
"Mrs. Mosby is the one who did an announcement discussing what she said the evidence was in a nationally televised speech," said Ivan Bates, who represents Sgt. Alicia White. "Now that it is time to turn over the evidence, to ask for a protective order is beyond disingenuous.
"It's as if she wants to do everything to make sure our clients do not get a fair trial."
Gray, 25, died in April after suffering a severe spinal cord injury in police custody. Mosby has charged the officers with violations ranging from misconduct in office to, in one case, second-degree murder. All six officers have been released on bail.
Baltimore's chief prosecutor declared her intention to seek the protective order in a court filing Monday. She also asked for more time to respond to defense motions that she and her office be removed from the case and that the case be tried outside Baltimore.

WASHINGTON -- The National Institutes of Health said on Thursday that it had suspended operations at a specialized pharmacy that is part of its clinical center in Bethesda, Md., after fluid used in experimental studies was found to be contaminated with fungus. This happens at other major medical centers every once in a while, and for the same reason: laxness in enforcing known safety standards.
In April, two vials of albumin, a substance used to administer the drug interleukin, were found to contain fungus, the N.I.H. said in a statement. Six patients had been given fluid from the same batch, but it was not clear whether the vials they received were tainted.
The pharmacy makes medicines and other products for clinical research studies. Inspectors found a series of irregularities and "serious manufacturing problems," the N.I.H. said.
One thing noted was that there was "inadequate separation" between the area where the drugs were mixed and the "common pharmacy" area. The two areas are supposed to have a carefully controlled air handling system, but the chief of the pharmacy department noted that a difference in air pressure was impossible to achieve because "there are no doors" between the two areas. Apparently they needed an inspector to determine there were no doors.

[Wash Times] IRS Commissioner John Koskinen has confirmed to Congress that illegal immigrants granted amnesty under President Obama's new programs could claim back refunds even when they never filed returns to pay their taxes in the first place.
Sen. Chuck Grassley, who had pressed Mr. Koskinen over the issue, released written responses Wednesday in which the commissioner admitted he'd botched the question earlier and, in fact, illegal immigrants granted the amnesty will now be able to claim refunds on tax returns they never even filed, thanks to the Earned Income Tax Credit.
"To clarify my earlier comments on EITC, not only can an individual amend a prior year return to claim EITC, but an individual who did not file a prior year return may file a return and claim EITC (subject to refund limitations under section 6511 of the Internal Revenue Code)," Mr. Koskinen said.
He insisted, however, that he doubts many illegal immigrants will take advantage of the loophole because they would have to be able to prove their earnings for those years they never filed returns.

TW: To be fair to what you say, it's the work of one part of the political class or the left who supports "O"--not necessarily the entire political class. The voters have indeed brought about change in the House (2010) and the Senate (2014). Let's see if they retain both houses and obtain the presidency in 2016. Maybe that will give the Pubs the mandate (can be read as spine) they need. The Donks tout diversity as one of their gods; however, the Pubs actually seem to have more diversity in policies/thought/ideology/candidates.

[NYT] Senator Bill Nelson of Florida, a Democrat, called on Thursday for the Department of Homeland Security to investigate a temporary visa program for highly skilled immigrants after a report in The New York Times that technology employees at Walt Disney World in Orlando and other companies lost their jobs to immigrants and had to train their replacements.
In a letter to Homeland Security Secretary Jeh Johnson, Mr. Nelson asked him to examine "potential misuses" of a visa program known as H-1B.
The Times reported Wednesday that about 250 Disney workers were laid off last year and many were replaced by immigrants hired by an outsourcing company based in India.
Before leaving, some of the laid-off workers had to train immigrants on H-1B visas to do their jobs. Not an uncommon practice. You want your severance pay? Stick around and train the nu guy.
"This program was created to help fill jobs when there were labor shortages, not to take jobs away from anyone," Mr. Nelson wrote.
A Disney spokesman said the company had no comment on the senator's request.

The whole justification for H1Bs is that they can't find an American to fill the position. Long time to end the program and start yanking those out there. The management can take their damn business to other countries if they can't work here (and deal with even greater corruption and vagaries of who determines what the law says at any one moment).

The thought occurs: this is the New York Times. Possibly they did not get the story right. Even more possibly, they are slanting the story for effect. They still haven't returned Walter Duranty's Pulitzer, after all.

[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] More than 70 people were killed in a fire at a petrol station in Ghana's capital, Accra, as they sought shelter from heavy rains that caused widespread flooding, the police and Red Thingy said Thursday.
"This loss of life is catastrophic and almost unprecedented," a visibly shaken President John Dramani Mahama said as he toured the scene.
"A lot of people have bit the dust and I am lost for words."
Communications minister Edward Omane Boamah described the situation as a "national emergency".
A senior police officer said that "the fire service alone has retrieved about 73 bodies," while Red Thingy disaster management coordinator Francis Obeng put the corpse count at "more than 70".
Local hospitals said morgues were full, with the corpse count likely to rise, according to security officials.
The fire broke out late on Wednesday night in the Kwame Nkrumah Circle area of central Accra and is thought to have spread from a nearby residence.

[Dhaka Tribune] An alleged robber was killed in a shootout with police at Cahkaria upazila in the district yesterday.
The dear departed was identified as Ali Ajgar,30, son of Nurul Amin of Dumkhali area.
Probhash Chandra Dhar, officer-in-charge of Chakaria cop shoppe said on a tip-off, the police conducted a drive in Khutkhali area of the upazila while a gang of robbers were taking preparation to commit a robbery in the area.
Spider senses tingling at the proximity of police, the robbers opened fire on the law enforcers, prompting them to retaliate. [BANG! BANG! BANGETY BANG!]that triggered a shootout, he said.
Ajgar was caught in the line of fire and was struck down in his prime.
Three coppers were also injured during the shootout. Police incarcerated ... anything you say can and will be used against you, whether you say it or not... an injured robber named Mohammad Shekha.
The law enforcers also recovered two firearms and 13 bullets from the spot.
The body was sent to Cox's Bazar Sadar Hospital morgue for an appointment with Dr Quincey..

It's getting increasingly difficult to find white players in pro football or basketball. Colleges are going that way too. Soon there won't be any white guys to compare with black players.

A good percentage of pro athletes are black, so one would expect a higher appearance of law breaking - drug use, DUI, other naughty behavior.
Part of the problem of this projection is that the various player associations so such a fine job of covering up naughty behavior the normal public doesn't hear about it until so-and-so is caught for the x time for drug abuse or whatnot.
I would say a lot of times the media goes out of its way to cover for the real heinous crimes. Jovan Belcher - long time bully, drug and alcohol abuse, horrible family man, given freebees by the law, but its that gun's fault.
Derrick Thomas - other than the eight ball a day, he tried to be a father and do right by the community but he died trying to do the right thing other than being stoned out of his mind driving a sports car in a blizzard.
Magic Johnson - not so much an AIDS carrying womanizer, but just a good guy to be around.
Michael Vick - dog fighting is not about raising war dogs bred only to fight to the death for entertainment, its a cultural thing you don't understand.
It is important to note how many pro athletes do not get noticed - they are the ones who are doing right. But you ask for the limelight, you get the limelight, and we don't hear about Mao Ming or Dirk Novitzski knocking out their woman in an elevator.
And as for the showboating - I get it. I get that pro sports is shifting from athletics to entertainment, the meterballization of American/Canadian sports. I was not exceptional is sports, but I loved playing, I get starting the lawnmower after making a great play. Its when a pro basketball player gets knocked 5 yards downcourt by somebody half his size I go boo.
IMO the worst PR comes from behavior during the game, and in that case meterball has my scorn, and meterball, as a viewer in the USA, is most definately not a black dominated sport. What it highlights is not playing against the other team, but playing for the refs, playing for special consideration.

In a story that's gotten remarkably little news coverage, the Baltimore Sun Times reports that four of the Mayor's highest ranking staff have quit since six Baltimore police officers were charged in the death of Freddie Gray. Among those who have resigned: LeVar Michael, Head of the mayor's Office of Nonviolent Programs, resigned on Wednesday, May 20.
Angela Johnese, Director of the Criminal Justice Office, resigned on Friday, May 22. Heather Brantner, Coordinator of the Mayor's Sexual Assault Response Team, also resigned on Friday, May 22. (Coincidence?)
Perhaps most shocking however, was the next resignation the following week: Shannon Cosgrove, the Mayor's own Deputy Director, resigned Tuesday, May 26 (the day after Memorial Day.)
For those without a calendar in front of them, that's four high-level departures in a period of four business days. What's particularly notable is the reason each of those high-level staff gave for abruptly resigning their positions.
Haha, tricked you! None of them gave any reason whatever. They just up and left. Boom.
In other totally predictable news it turns out that the mayor's office's initial estimate that the "space to destroy" riots had cost the City of Baltimore $9 million was a slight underestimate. The actual figure? In fact, apparently no one is even willing to hazard a guess at a specific figure. It seems certain, however, that the actual damages exceed $20 million, more than double the mayor's estimate, and perhaps exceed that figure by a great deal.
Perhaps the current figures will pale in comparison to the damage that is likely to be inflicted on the City of Baltimore should the prosecution of the six police officers collapse.
Should be an interesting summer for Baltimore. But hey, at least there's a silver lining in the local city economy--the mayor's office is likely to be hiring.
