Red state ammo factory raided by EPA and Bureau.
[Daily Caller] Environmental Protection Agency and FBI agents raided the ammunition company USA Brass over alleged "environmental violations" early Thursday morning.

NBC Montana was tipped off by witnesses that federal investigators were there until at least 4 a.m. on Thursday. Federal agents could be seen going through the company's building and taking items to a truck parked outside. EPA lead criminal investigator Bert Marsden said that the agency was looking into alleged "environmental violations" by USA Brass.

"We are investigating alleged violations of environmental law," Marsden said on Thursday. "An investigation takes as long as it takes, and I can't provide any details as it relates to that."

Senegal closes its border to stop ebola
Conakry -- Guinea is racing to contain a deadly Ebola epidemic spreading from its southern forests to the capital Conakry, as neighbouring Senegal closes its border. The order affects crossings at Kolda and Kedougou in the south of Senegal which are heavily used by traders, particularly during a weekly market attended by thousands from neighbouring countries.

Eight cases of Ebola have been confirmed in Conakry, the Guinean health ministry said late Friday, including one fatality. Across the country, "the total number of suspected cases recorded from January to 28 March 2014 is 111 cases of haemorrhagic fever including 70 deaths ... or a fatality rate of 63 percent," the ministry said in a statement.

Samples taken from 45 of the suspect cases included 19 which tested positive for Ebola. Most of the cases were recorded in southern Guinea, but the disease has spread to the capital since Wednesday.

Sakoba Keita, who heads the Guinean health ministry's prevention division said it remains unclear how Ebola had arrived in Guinea. Tests on the other cases of haemorrhagic fever are still ongoing to determine their origin.

"We hope to get (the results) quickly as these cases should be treated like Ebola as they are also deadly," he said.

concerns during talks with King Abdullah, activists said.

In one video seen by Agence La Belle France Presse, a young man identifying himself as Abdulaziz Mohammed al-Dosari addressed King Abdullah saying he has to survive on a low income, and does not own a house or a car.

"We are fed up, and you still blame those who carry out bombings," the man says, urging the king to give Saudis money to improve their lives.

"Give us our money... we do not want to beg... You and your children are playing with this money," he said about Saudi's oil wealth in the 30-second video during which he held up his identification card.

In another video, a man identifying himself as Abdullah bin Othman charged that "corruption is widespread" in Saudi Arabia while "people are hungry and oppressed."

Othman urged other Saudis to go online and post their comments "so that our voices could reach the king."

In a third video, a man calling himself Saud al-Harbi said many of his compatriots are in need of "housing" and a "decent life."

"Please listen to us. We want housing, we want a decent life," he said, apparently addressing Saudi authorities.

And he added: "Do not force people to take to the streets."

No Signs of Russian Military Buildup on Border
According to dire warnings from U.S. military and intelligence officials, Russian President Vladimir Putin, fresh from his daring annexation of Ukraine’s strategic Crimean Peninsula, has concentrated tens of thousands of his forces on the border with Ukraine. Top Russian officials – including Putin himself – have denied any such troop concentrations near the Western border. One minor Ministry of Defense official, who didn’t want to be named because he wasn’t authorized to comment, told NBC News that there had been training exercises – war games – in the border region but, once ended, those troops and armor returned to their bases.

We went to look for ourselves. Cameraman Dmitry Solovyov, sound engineer Alexei Gordienko and I packed our bags, devices and news-gathering gadgets into the back of our grey, nondescript bureau minivan and began a journey along the 1,200 mile border between Russia and Ukraine – many segments of which give no indication that it’s an actual border between two countries.

Thousands Protest China Trade Deal In Taiwan
[Ynet] Hundreds of thousands of demonstrators gathered in the streets around Taiwan's Parliament on Sunday to protest a trade pact with China, a nearly 2-week-old protest that is challenging the president's policy of moving the democratic island economically closer to China.

Lin Fei-fan, a protest organizer, estimated that 500,000 people had turned out in the biggest demonstration since the movement started.

Mayor-elect commits suicide before start of his term
[FRANCE24] Philippe Sauty, who was supposed to begin a term as mayor of the small southwestern French town of Vibrac on Sunday, was discovered dead early this morning.

The 51-year-old reportedly did away with himself with a hunting rifle.

Sauty's body was found by his wife.

A retiree and former employee of the SNCF, La Belle France's state-owned railway company, Sauty won 75.14 percent of the votes in the first round of Vibrac's municipal elections last Sunday.

The town is home to roughly 157 inhabitants.

An investigation has been opened into Sauty's death. According to reports, the pressure of his impending mayoral duties had upset him in the days preceding his suicide.

Russia Urges West to Back 'Federal' Solution for Ukraine
[An Nahar] Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov on Sunday called on Western powers to back a proposal for Ukraine's Russian-speaking regions to have greater powers in a "federal" structure.

"If our Western partners are ready, then Russia, the United States and the European Union
...the successor to the Holy Roman Empire, only without the Hapsburgs and the nifty uniforms and the dancing...
could form a support group on Ukraine and formulate shared appeals to those now in power in Kiev," Lavrov said in an interview with Russian state television
... and if you can't believe state television who can you believe?
This would lead to talks between "all Ukrainian political forces without exception, naturally excluding armed radicals" and would end in a new constitution allowing for a "federal structure" with greater regional autonomy, he said.

The interview was broadcast as Lavrov was due to meet U.S. Secretary of State John F. I was in Vietnam, you know Kerry
Former Senator-for-Life from Massachussetts, self-defined war hero, speaker of French, owner of a lucky hat, conqueror of Cambodia, and current Secretary of State...
for hastily arranged talks in Gay Paree later Sunday.

Russia backs the idea of greater regional autonomy because millions of Russian speakers are concentrated in Ukraine's eastern regions as well as in Crimea.

This would "protect the rights of those who live in Ukraine, primarily of course the Russian population which is important to us," Lavrov said.

Lavrov acknowledged that his first talks with Ukraine's interim foreign minister Andriy Deshchytsya last week ended without any agreement on Moscow's federalization plan.

"Andriy Deshchytsya said our proposal was unacceptable because federalization contradicts the basic principles of Ukraine's state structure."

"I don't understand why. I don't know any such principles," Lavrov said.

He added that Deshchytsya also rejected a proposal to make Russian the second official language in Ukraine.

Addressing fears of Russia's massing troops on Ukraine's borders, Lavrov said that "we do not pursue any evil designs and are open to honest talks as before."

U.S. Gives Moldova $10 Million to Reinforce Border with Ukraine
[An Nahar] The United States is giving ex-Soviet Moldova $10 million to strengthen security on its border with Ukraine, Washington's top diplomat in Europe Victoria Nuland said Sunday.

Part of Moldova's eastern border with Ukraine is occupied by the breakaway Russian-speaking region of Transdniestr.

Moscow's de facto annexation of Crimea has raised fears Russia could make similar moves in other ex-Soviet states with separatist regions.

The situation in Transdniestr has raised "concern", Nuland, a U.S. assistant secretary of state, told journalists in Chisinau, in comments translated into Russian.

Officials in Transdniestr this month appealed to politicians in Moscow to pass legislation that could see the region absorbed into Russia.

Moscow has complained that Transdniestr is being blockaded by Moldova and Ukraine.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said in an interview broadcast Saturday that "Chisinau and the new Ukrainian authorities have practically organised a blockade" of Transdniestr.

"What's more, the European Union
...the successor to the Holy Roman Empire, only without the Hapsburgs and the nifty uniforms and the dancing...
and, as I understand it, the United States, encourage such a line," Lavrov said.

Putin, Obama Take Steps to Solve Crisis in Ukraine
[Tolo News] Russian President Vladimir Putin
...Second and fourth President of the Russian Federation and the first to remain sober. Putin is credited with bringing political stability and re-establishing something like the rule of law, which occasionally results in somebody dropping dead from polonium poisoning. Under Putin, a new group of business magnates controlling significant swathes of Russia's economy has emerged, all of whom have close personal ties to Putin. The old bunch, without close personal ties to Putin, are in jail or in exile or dead...
suggested to his US counterpart Barack Obama
Because I won...
in a phone call between the two leaders that the international community could examine joint steps to calm the situation in Ukraine, the Kremlin said Saturday.
Having taken what he wanted by force, Vlad can now take steps to make nice, or relatively so. B.O., having tripped over his feet, will now take steps to pretend he can dance.
Putin in the call also raised alarm over what he described as the "continued outbursts by myrmidons" in Kiev and also over the situation in the largely-Russian speaking rebel Moldovan region of Transdniestr.
Since what the Moldovans call "Left Bank of the Dniestr" doesn't border Crimea, they'll need a land corridor, won't they? Like including Odessa?
The White House said earlier that Putin called Obama to discuss a US proposal on solving the crisis in Ukraine, after Russia seized the Black Sea region of Crimea and massed tens of thousands of troops on Ukraine's eastern border.
Tut tut. John Kerry can solve that in an afternoon. Tut.
"The Russian leader suggested examining possible steps of the international community to help stabilise the situation," the Kremlin said, without specifying what these steps would entail.
Things like not selling natural gas to Europe. That will help stabilize things.
"The concrete parameters of this joint work will be discussed" by Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and his US counterpart John F. I was in Vietnam, you know Kerry
Former Senator-for-Life from Massachussetts, self-defined war hero, speaker of French, owner of a lucky hat, conqueror of Cambodia, and current Secretary of State...
soon, the statement added.
You can rely on JFK.
In the call, Putin also raised concern over the situation in Transdneistr, a sliver of Moldovan territory bordering Ukraine which broke away from control of the Moldovan government in the wake of the fall of the USSR. Putin said there was a "de-facto external blockade of Transdniestr" which was hampering the lives of its inhabitants. The self-declared statelet is recognised by no government.
...which is why there's a "de-facto" blockade.
But Putin appeared to suggest that the Transdniestr issue should be solved not by force but by talks in the "5+2" format of Moldova, Transdniestr, the OSCE, Russia, Ukraine plus the EU and the US as observers.
There was an agreement implemented after the European Union Border Assistance Mission to Moldova and Ukraine (EUBAM) started its activity in 2005. You can see how well EUBAM has been working.
"It was emphasised that Russia is in favour of a fair and acceptable regulation of the Transdniestr problem and is interested in seeing the current 5+2 negotiating format work effectively."
"Fair" means they get their way. Just ask Imre Nagy.
Putin also told Obama that Russia was still alarmed over the situation in Ukraine after the fall of president Viktor Yanukovych. "There are continued outbursts by myrmidons, unpunished acts of intimidation," he was quoted as saying by the Kremlin.

, who has come under fire over an Internet crackdown, during crucial local elections.

The two women, who had the words "Ban Erdogan" written across their chests, were quickly covered up and tossed in the clink

after flashing their breasts in the Istanbul polling station where Erdogan had been due to vote.

The conservative premier had already opted for a different ballot location after Femen had announced plans for the protest at the elementary school on the Asian side of the city where Erdogan has voted in the past.

The Ukraine-based feminist group had staged earlier actions against Erdogan's decision to block Twitter after the social media service was used to spread damaging corruption claims against him and his allies.

In an earlier photo shared on Twitter, a Femen activist had written across her bare chest Google

Erdogan's party takes strong early lead in local elections
[An Nahar] Turkish Premier Recep Tayyip Erdogan
... Turkey's version of Mohammed Morsi only they haven't dumped him yet...
's party took a strong early lead in local elections Sunday, TV channels reported, despite turbulent months marked by mass protests, corruption scandals and Internet blocks.

If the initial trend holds up, it would considerably brighten the outlook for Erdogan, who had gone on a weeks-long campaign marathon ahead of the vote widely seen as a referendum on his 11-year-rule.

Republican Governors Court Jewish Donors In Las Vegas
[Ynet] Two of the highest-profile Republican governors on Saturday called for more aggressive leadership on America's challenges abroad, emphasizing their support for Israel as they courted powerful Jewish donors.

New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie and Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker, both considering presidential bids, addressed the Republican Jewish Coalition's annual spring gathering at the Sheldon Adelson-owned Venetian resort casino. "We cannot have a world where our friends are unsure of whether we will be with them and our enemies are unsure of whether we will be against them," Christie said.

Salman Khan Visits Afghan Woman Shot By Husband
[Tolo News] World-famous Indian movie star Salman Khan spent two hours this week visiting with an 18-year-old Afghan woman who was in Mumbai receiving medical treatment after being shot in the face by her husband.

Shakila Zareen is currently undergoing intensive facial reconstruction surgery at the Apollo Hospital, according to local newspaper Deccan Chronicle. Her Afghan husband shot her in the face with a shotgun, which resulted in severe damage to her nose, eyes and hearing.

Salman Khan is one of Shakila's heroes, and once hospital workers at Apollo were made aware of her admiration, a social media campaign was launched by Dr. Shahin Nooreyezdan to arrange a meeting between the two.

Salman Khan, one of Bollywood's most famous male actors, met with Shakila at his mansion in Mumbai, where he spoke with her at length and posed for photos.

The movie star reportedly told young Shakila that his family had in fact fled Afghanistan over six generations ago because of the lack of law and order.

"They follow Islam, they say. But they don't follow any religion. All they believe is in dominating women, unlike Islam, which talks so much about women's power and their rights," Salman Khan told Shakila, according to the Deccan Chronicle.

Accidental?

She sure doesn't look upset,

#3  Salman is a pretty decent guy, and a big heartthrob for any woman in that region with a pulse.

She's smiling because she is sitting next to her hero, this will most likely be the high point of her life. Her life would have been tough under ordinary circumstances, with her disfigurement it's going to be even tougher. For however long it lasts.
