Marshall may be father of Anna Nicole's daugher
First it was the celebrity photographer versus the Hollywood lawyer. Then Zsa Zsa Gabor's husband entered the fray. Yesterday, the extraordinary whodunnit over who fathered Anna Nicole Smith's baby took another twist - it could have been her elderly billionaire husband, who died on August 4, 1995.
Apparently it could be nearly anybody male.
All you Rantburg gents ought to submit your claims soon; the field's getting crowded. You may address the entry "To whom it may concern." Make sure you throw a little love Fred's way, unless (our) Fred is the daddy, in which case RB is due for a MAJOR upgrade...
Wudn't me. I hate standing in long lines.
J Howard Marshall II's name was thrown into the paternity stakes by the half-sister of Smith, 39, the buxom, platinum blond former Playboy Playmate of the Year who died in mysterious circumstances in a Florida hotel room last week.
Then again, it could have been the guy with the hat...
In the manuscript for a new book, Donna Hogan says her sister froze the 90-year-old Mr Marshall's sperm and may have used it to become pregnant.
Lends a new dimension to the word "Popsicle," doesn't it?
Dannielynn Hope Marshall Stern, who bears the names of two of her possible fathers and became the heir to a share of the oil baron's $1.6 billion fortune when her mother died, was born in the Bahamas five months ago. The latest dramatic revelation comes on the heels of a paternity court hearing - held just a day after Miss Smith's death - pitting Howard K Stern, 38, her lawyer, who claims to have been her lover, against Larry Birkhead, a photographer and former boyfriend.
Therefore also her lover...
Prince Frederic von Anhalt, 61, husband of the almost comatose 90-year-old Miss Gabor, joined the ranks of claimants on Friday, saying he had a decade-long affair with Miss Smith.
Prince Fred is also rumored to actually be averse to having sexual congress with women except for money...
He later muddied the waters further by saying that any one of 30 men could be Dannielynn's father.
He was probably being impeccably polite and dropping a zero. Or two. Maybe three.
"Anna liked to have fun. She liked to have fun with men," said Prince Frederic, the son of a German policeman, who bought his title. "She was a very sexy woman." Speaking in Los Angeles, he claimed she had pleaded with him to make her a princess, but he had refused to divorce his wife of 20 years, who suffered a stroke on July 7, 2005.
Anna Nicole seems to have spent a good part of her life with her pants off. Maybe she died of exhaustion?

#5  I wasn't going to weigh in on this one, but what the hell. Don't forget to add the South Carolina developer, G. Ben Thompson, who had a brief relationship with her, to the list. The two were embroiled in an ownership dispute over the Bahamas mansion before she died. She said it was a gift, but he claimed it was just a loan.

#18  Anna's Death Fridge -- Methadone and Slim-Fast

TMZ has obtained a photo of the inside of Anna Nicole Smith's refrigerator taken after she died, and the contents are shocking on several levels. TMZ has 100% verified the authenticity of this photo.

The refrigerator, which was inside Anna Nicole's bedroom in the Bahamas, contained methadone (5 mg per 5 ml). The small refrigerator contained cans of Slim-Fast-- ironic, since Smith was TRIMSPA's spokesperson. Several bottles of TRIMSPA sat right next to the fridge.

The fridge also contained Miracle 2000 (marketed as a nutritional supplement for "today's active lifestyle"), French's Worcestershire Sauce, yogurt and spray butter. It also appears there are vials of injectable medicines.

The methadone is compelling, as Smith's son Daniel died from a combination of drugs that included methadone. Law enforcement sources in the Bahamas tell TMZ that at least one witness has come forward and said Howard K. Stern supplied Daniel with methadone just before he died, and flushed the remaining stash down the toilet. That witness is expected to testify next month at the coroner's inquest into Daniel's death.

Now Stern is placed in the same home with another stash of methadone -- the home he shared with Smith.

TMZ has confirmed that law enforcement in the Bahamas is aware of the contents of the refrigerator

Caucasus/Russia/Central Asia
"US wants to dominate the world" — Pooty-poot
Russian President Vladimir Putin, in one of his harshest attacks on the United States in seven years in power, accused Washington on Saturday of attempting to force its will on the world. The White House said it was "surprised and disappointed" by Putin's accusations but added Washington expected to continue to work with Moscow in areas such as counter-terrorism and reducing the spread and threat of weapons of mass destruction.

In a speech in Germany, which one U.S. senator said smacked of Cold War rhetoric, Putin accused the United States of making the world a more dangerous place by pursuing policies aimed at making it "one single master". Attacking the concept of a "unipolar" world in which the United States was the sole superpower, he said: "What is a unipolar world? No matter how we beautify this term it means one single center of power, one single center of force and one single master. It has nothing in common with democracy because that is the opinion of the majority taking into account the minority opinion," he told the gathering of top security and defense officials. "People are always teaching us democracy but the people who teach us democracy don't want to learn it themselves."

Gordon Johndroe, press secretary for the White House National Security Council, rejected Putin's comments: "We are surprised and disappointed with President Putin's comments. His accusations are wrong," Johndroe said.
We only want to rule the good parts, or those with resources. Say, Siberia.

"We expect to continue cooperation with Russia in areas important to the international community such as counter-terrorism and reducing the spread and threat of weapons of mass destruction," he added.

The Kremlin has for several weeks been dropping hints that Putin, who steps down next year after two terms in power, was preparing a major foreign policy speech that would point the way for his successor. Its delivery at the prestigious annual Munich meeting on security was clearly aimed at attracting maximum attention. "The message I got from his speech was that Putin wants Russia to have the same position in the world as the former Soviet Union," a senior European official told Reuters.

Putin spoke against a background of increasing Russian agitation over U.S. policy on Iraq, and on the Iran and North Korea nuclear issues, as well as growing self-confidence as an emerging energy superpower.

U.S. plans to deploy parts of an anti-missile defense system in Poland and the Czech Republic have become a fresh irritant in U.S.-Russian relations. Washington says the system is needed for defense against rockets launched by Iran and North Korea -- an argument rejected by Moscow.

Russian Defense Minister Sergei Ivanov, who has been extremely critical of the U.S. anti-missile system, will address the conference on Sunday.

Putin said the United States had repeatedly overstepped its national borders in questions of international security, a policy that he said had made the world less, not more, safe. "Unilateral actions have not resolved conflicts but have made them worse," Putin said, adding that force should only be used when backed by the UN Security Council.
Coming from Russia, this is hilarious.
"This is very dangerous. Nobody feels secure any more because nobody can hide behind international law," he said.

Putin also said the increased use of force was "causing an arms race with the desire of countries to get nuclear weapons". He did not name the countries. Putin mentioned no specific conflicts. But he has been very critical of the U.S.-led invasion of Iraq in 2003, where U.S. soldiers are still struggling to crush an insurgency.

New Defense Secretary Robert Gates, the top American official at the conference, said Putin's comments were "interesting, very forthright".

U.S. Senator Joseph Lieberman said the speech was provocative and marked by "rhetoric that sounded more like the Cold War".

NATO Secretary-General Jaap de Hoop Scheffer said he was disappointed by Putin's statement that alliance enlargement was "a serious factor provoking reduced mutual trust. I see a disconnection between NATO's partnership with Russia as it has developed and Putin's speech," he said.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov, however, denied the Russian president was trying to provoke Washington. "This is not about confrontation. It's an invitation to think," he told reporters.
We think you're upset because you don't matter any more.

#5  The one who really wants to "dominate the world" is KGB Putin and his cast of hardline Kremlin neo-Soviet cohorts.

Washington needs to wake up from Putin's years of deception, while arming our worst enemies, such as Iran & Syria with the latest advanced anti-aircraft defenses, intended to shoot down American pilots.

The only thing which has changed since the 'former' Soviet Union era are Putin's suits. The alarming goals remain the same.

"cutting edge" technologies/systems which is of value to Russia's mostly Third-World clientele. Far from being collapsed or decrepit, Russia's defense industries are actually vibrant and heavily active, working hard to please client nations. PUTIN > under Putin Russia wants to regain its Cold War USSR geopolitical influence, and is seeking "BEYOND THE SOVIET INHERITANCE".

Hundreds Protest U.S. Jets in Japan
KADENA, Japan (AP) - Several hundred protesters gathered outside a U.S. air base Saturday to oppose the arrival of a dozen F-22 stealth fighters, the aircraft's first deployment outside of the United States. The demonstration was held outside the gate of Kadena Air Base, one of the largest U.S. airfields in the Pacific, on the southern Japanese island of Okinawa. About 500 protesters joined in, police said. The protest was peaceful, and no arrests were reported.

The stealth fighters, the newest and most expensive in the U.S. Air Force, were due to arrive from their base in Langley, Va., on Saturday. Bad weather forced a delay, however, and officials said they were rescheduled to arrive Sunday.

Tokyo and Washington agreed on the deployment, which is to last three months, as a means of boosting the U.S. military's readiness and deterrent abilities, and because they say it provides a valuable training experience for the fighter pilots and their support teams.

Obama joins race with call to change
Barack Obama, the charismatic Democratic senator, invoked the spirit of Abraham Lincoln yesterday as he launched his campaign to become America's first black president with a speech reflecting his trademark eloquence and optimism. "It's time to turn the page, right here and right now," he told a crowd - chanting "Obama! Obama!" - outside the Old State Capitol in Springfield, Illinois.

It was here that Lincoln delivered his famous anti-slavery address, declaring: "A house divided against itself cannot stand." Like Lincoln, who became president in 1861, Mr Obama, 45, spent eight years as a state legislator in Springfield before he was elected to the senate in 2004. He portrayed himself as a unifier who could transform the country. He reiterated his call for all US troops to leave Iraq by May next year. Mr Obama defended his decision to run after only two years in Washington. "I have been there long enough to know the ways of Washington must change," he said.

Israel-Palestine-Jordan
Israeli ABM missile test 'successful'
Israel has carried out a successful test of its Arrow missile, the defence ministry has said.

One of the missiles was fired at night and destroyed what Israeli media said was a target similar to Iran's long-range Shahab-3 missile.

The test took place as Iran celebrated the 28th anniversary of its Islamic revolution.

Israel considers Iran its greatest threat since the overthrow of Saddam Hussein in Iraq in 2003, analysts say.

'Message to Iran'

"This evening's successful test reinforces Israel's readiness... against external threats at the extremes of its operational envelope," said Israeli Defence Minister Amir Peretz.

The Arrow missile was fired from a base south of Tel Aviv at a missile launched from an aircraft over the eastern Mediterranean at a high altitude.

This was the first test of the Arrow missile to be conducted at night.

Israeli public television called the test a "message to Iran".

The anti-ballistic missile system was developed jointly with the United States after Israel came under attack by Iraqi Scud missiles during the first Gulf War.

Some Western nations, including Israel, fear Iran is trying to develop nuclear weapons.

Iran says its nuclear programme is for peaceful purposes only.
