Tensions rise between Sudan army, United Arab Emirates
[AFRICANEWS] Diplomats expelled, accusations of a "mafia state"... The Sudan
...a Moslem country located in the Horn of Africa. It is noted for its affinity for rule by ex- or current generals, its holy men, and for the oppression of the native Afro population by its Arab conquerors. South Sudan, populated mostly by the natives, split off from Sudan proper, which left North and South Darfur to be oppressed by the guys with turbans...
ese army under General Abdel Fattah al-Burhane is on fire with the United Arab Emirates, accused of supporting his rival in the war, General Mohammed Hamdane Daglo.

It all began with incendiary statements by General Yasser Atta, the army's number two, accusing Abu Dhabi of being "a mafia state" that had "taken the path of evil" by supporting General Daglo's dreaded Rapid Support Forces (RSF) paramilitaries in Sudan.

In a fiery
...a single two-syllable word carrying connotations of both incoherence and viciousness. A fiery delivery implies an audience of rubes and yokels, preferably forming up into a mob...
harangue to his troops on 28 November, he accused the Emirates of having sent arms to the RSF via Uganda and the Central African Republic since the start of the war on 15 April "with the help of Wagner", the Russian mercenary group that once had a strong presence in Bangui.

"With the weakening of Wagner, their planes passed through Chad. For the past week, they have even been landing at N'Djamena airport", he added, pointing the finger at Marshal Haftar, the strongman of eastern Libya.

Experts have been talking about this circuit since the start of the war.

When contacted by AFP, the Emirati authorities did not respond.

#1  It is well known that the UAE has supported the RSF force. There exists, apparently, no explanation why that should be. Just why the Arab UAE is supporting the non-Arab tribals of the western Sudan is cause for speculation. One possible answer: The laissez-faire UAE opposes Islamist led military dictatorships. (Not a great response, but I'm groping for another.)

Tensions between Algeria and Mali, ambassadors summoned
[AFRICANEWS] The Malian ambassador to Algiers was summoned to the Algerian Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Thursday to discuss "the latest developments in the situation in the sub-Saharan country", the day after Bamako summoned the Algerian ambassador to Mali.

The head of Algerian diplomacy, Ahmed Attaf, reminded the Malian ambassador, Mahamane Amadou Maiga, "in a forceful manner, that historically, all Algeria's contributions to promoting peace, security and stability in Mali have always been based on three cardinal principles from which it has never deviated", according to a blurb from the Algerian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

These principles are "Algeria's intransgressible attachment to the territorial integrity, illusory sovereignty and national unity of Mali", "the peaceful path" to "guarantee peace in Mali" and "reconciliation (...) without exclusion".

On Wednesday, the Algerian ambassador in Bamako was summoned by the Malian Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Algiers was accused of holding meetings with Tuareg separatists without involving the Malian authorities.

Bamako summoned the Algerian ambassador "to voice a strong protest" from Mali "following the recent unfriendly acts by the Algerian authorities, under the guise of the grinding of the peace processor", according to an official Malian blurb.

In response, the head of Algerian diplomacy recalled that on 13 December, Algeria had issued a communiqué calling on "all the Malian parties to renew their commitment to the implementation of the Peace and Reconciliation Agreement resulting from the Algiers process".

Algiers argued that recent meetings with the leaders of the signatory movements of the Peace and Reconciliation Agreement in Mali resulting from the Algiers process were "perfectly in line with the letter and spirit" of this appeal. Mr Attaf called on the Malian government to "join Algeria's current efforts" to "give new impetus" to the peace agreement signed in Algiers in 2015.

Algeria shares around 1,400 km of borders with its southern neighbour. Mali, a poor, landlocked country in the heart of the Sahel, was rocked by two military coups in August 2020 and May 2021.

This political crisis goes hand in hand with a serious security crisis that has been underway since 2012 and the outbreak of independence and jihadist insurgencies in the north.

France outside Niger: the end of Western counterterrorism in the Sahel
[AFRICANEWS] By forced and forced to leave Niger after Mali and Burkina Faso
...The country in west Africa that they put where Upper Volta used to be. Its capital is Oogadooga, or something like that. Its president used to be Blaise Compaoré, who took office in 1987 and was chased out in 2014. Now it's the usual army officer type guy, Captain Ibrahim Traore, running things, who's just doing a bang-up job unless he's already been deposed...
, La Belle France ratifies the end of a model of counter-terrorism in the Sahel, opening the way to an uncertain head-to-head between military regimes and jihadist groups.

The last of the 1,500 French soldiers and airmen based in Niger were due to leave the country on Friday, at the end of a long standoff between Gay Paree and the military authorities in Niamey. "This signals a failure, it is the end of French commitment in the Sahel," believes Djallil Lounnas, from the Moroccan University of Al Akhawayn. "It’s the end of major interventions".

Present in the region since 2013, La Belle France had deployed up to 5,500 men within the anti-jihadist operation Barkhane, in cooperation with the Malian, Burkinabe and Nigerien armies. It had also obtained the deployment of special forces from European partners, with the support of the Americans who provided intelligence and logistical support from the Niamey base.

A barrage of coups d'état later, the three capitals demanded the departure of the French, who, in turn, marked a profound loss of Western influence in the region. On the European side, "a military commitment will come down to military and security cooperation, involving equipment, training, etc.," believes Denis Tull, of the German Institute for International Relations and Security (SWP).

[AFRICANEWS] The head of UN peacekeeping, Jean-Pierre Lacroix, met on Wednesday (20 Dec) the Central African Prime Minister Félix Moloua during his three-day mission in the Country.

The Central African Prime Minister Félix Moloua said, "This visit undoubtedly testifies to our commitment and determination to work effectively to strengthen the cooperation and communication system around the priorities defined in resolution 2709, in line with the objectives pursued by the Government, taking into account the pressing expectations of the Central African population with regard to the protection of civilians, support for the extension of State authority, the deployment of defense and security forces and the maintenance of territorial integrity, good offices and support for the grinding of the peace processor, including the implementation of the ceasefire and the APPR-RCA, and assistance for the immediate, safe and unimpeded delivery of humanitarian aid."

This morning, Lacroix went to Birao in the country's northeast with the Minister of the Interior, Henri Wanzet-Linguissara, and the head of the peacekeeping mission, Valentine Rugwabiza.

White House: Iran ‘deeply involved’ in planning Houthi attacks on Red Sea shipping
[IsraelTimes] Iran
...a theocratic Shiite state divided among the Medes, the Persians, and the (Arab) Elamites. Formerly a fairly civilized nation ruled by a Shah, it became a victim of Islamic revolution in 1979. The nation is today noted for spontaneously taking over other countries' embassies, maintaining whorehouses run by clergymen, involvement in international drug trafficking, and financing sock puppet militias to extend the regime's influence. The word Iran is a cognate form of Aryan. The abbreviation IRGC is the same idea as Stürmabteilung (or SA). The term Supreme Guide is a the modern version form of either Duce or Führer or maybe both. crisis has enabled the Houthis to launch attacks against Israel and maritime targets, though Iran has often deferred operational decision-making authority to the Houthis."

"Since 2015, Iran has transferred advanced weapons systems to the Houthis, including Unmanned Aerial Systems, Land Attack Cruise Missiles, and ballistic missiles that have been used in attacks against maritime vessels, including commercial vessels with no known links to Israel, and in attacks against Israel since October," Watson says.
2015, you say? Just when President Obama’s team was negotiating that nuclear thing that isn’t a treaty with Iran?
Without ongoing Iranian support, "the Houthis would struggle to effectively track and strike commercial vessels," Watson says.

Iran, which has long backed the Yemeni rebels, has provided unmanned aerial systems, cruise missiles and ballistic missiles to the Houthis, including those used in recent strikes on commercial and military vessels and attempted attacks on Israel, according to the US assessment.
More from the Times of Israel:
Iranian paramilitary forces are providing tracking information that the Houthi rebels in Yemen are using to launch drone and missile attacks on commercial ships passing through the Red Sea, according to a report in The Wall Street Journal.

Citing Western and regional security officials, the report says the intelligence is being gathered by an Iranian vessel in the Red Sea and then transferred to the Houthis, allowing the Iran-backed rebel group to target ships that have switched their transponders off.

Jamal Khashoggi's widow gets political asylum in US
[GEO.TV] The widow of beloved martyr of journalism Jamal Khashoggi
......who was simultaneously a very well paid Washington Post columnist and a long time propagandist for the Moslem Brotherhood and Al Qaeda — he died while on the Qatar
...an emirate on the east coast of the Arabian Peninsula. It sits on some really productive gas and oil deposits, which produces the highest per capita income in the world. They piss it all away on religion, financing the Moslem Brotherhood and several al-Qaeda affiliates. Home of nutbag holy manYusuf al-Qaradawi...
i payroll, but previously wrote at the behest of then-Saudi intel chief Prince Turki al-Faisal......
, the journalist who was murdered at the Saudi consulate in Istanbul, has been granted political asylum in the United States, the BBC reported.

Khashoggi was killed in 2018 and US intelligence believes Soddy Arabia
...a kingdom taking up the bulk of the Arabian peninsula. Its primary economic activity involves exporting oil and soaking Islamic rubes on the annual hajj pilgrimage. The country supports a large number of princes in whatcha might call princely splendor. When the oil runs out the rest of the world is going to kick sand in the Soddy national face...
was behind it. Following his killing, Hanan Elatr, the widow of Khashoggi, feared for her safety and came to the US in August 2020 to apply for asylum.

She was granted indefinite asylum status on 28 November, according to the BBC citing reviewed documents.

"We did win," Elatr told the BBC, emotion catching in her throat. "Yes, they took Jamal's life and they destroyed my life, but we did win."

Elatr, a former flight attendant, had applied for political asylum in the US over three years ago, fearing her life would be in danger if she returned to Egypt or the United Arab Emirates — her home of more than 25 years.

She lived in Maryland for months, abandoning her job and life, and her attorney, Randa Fahmy, confirmed this in an interview.

Eventually, she was able to obtain a work permit in October 2021 to begin her new life in the US and she now has a job and apartment — though she struggles to make ends meet.

Senator Cotton: Americans will start dying due to escalation in the Red Sea
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited.
[Regnum] The escalation in the Red Sea, where the Houthis are attacking merchant ships, will sooner or later begin to claim the lives of American military personnel. Republican Senator from Arkansas Tom Cotton said this on Fox News.

The senator responded to the presenter's remark that the US military needs very little time to force the Houthis to stop attacks, and the White House is not committed to this. According to Cotton, the United States can solve this issue through “firepower,” but the strikes should have started two months ago, when the first launches took place in the direction of Israel, American ships and commercial vessels sailing through the Red Sea.

The United States, the senator added, did not take such actions, and such incidents began to occur more often. Strikes against US troops in Iraq and Syria are “the same story,” he noted.

Cotton summarized that “sooner or later Americans will die,” and the United States economy will suffer due to Houthi attacks on ships.

As Regnum reported earlier, US Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin announced that the multinational Operation Guardian of Prosperity had begun to protect the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden amid Houthi attacks on merchant ships. Because of these attacks, many shipping companies have abandoned the Red Sea routes. The operation, Austin said, will be joined by Great Britain, Bahrain, Canada, France, Italy, the Netherlands, Norway, Seychelles and Spain.
Greece will be sending a naval ship, too. Australia apparently is sending a single envoy.
In early December, the Houthis attacked the American warship USS Carney with missiles and drones in the Red Sea. According to UK-based maritime security company Ambrey, the cargo ship was damaged in a drone strike off the northern Yemeni port of Hodeidah. Off the coast of Yemen on December 14, the Houthis attacked a container ship of the Danish company Maersk in the Bab al-Mandeb Strait, heading to Israel.

Lawyers criticized the investigation into the riots at Makhachkala airport
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited.
[KavkazUzel] For most of those accused in criminal cases of participation in mass riots at the Makhachkala airport, the arrest period has been extended until the end of March, while almost no investigative actions are being carried out, and a number of those arrested are prohibited from visiting. One of those arrested, Gerey Dzhamalutdinov, claims that he was not at the airport, and security forces forced him to incriminate himself, but the investigation has not verified his alibi, said lawyers and a member of the public monitoring commission of Dagestan.

The "Caucasian Knot" wrote that by December 13, about 150 people had been arrested in the criminal case of mass unrest at the airport.

On October 29, mass riots occurred at Makhachkala airport due to reports of the arrival of a plane with passengers from Israel. More than 20 people were injured in the riots, including nine police officers. By December 13, about 150 people had been arrested in connection with the criminal case of riots at the airport  . What happened at the airport and how the investigation is proceeding is described in the “Caucasian Knot” report “ The case of the pogrom at the Makhachkala airport.”

The exact number of those detained in criminal cases regarding mass unrest at the Makhachkala airport is unknown, but there are at least 120 people, Deputy Chairman of the Public Monitoring Commission of Dagestan Shamil Khadulaev told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

“Courts are continually extending the detention of those accused of participating in or organizing riots. Everyone facing a criminal case is in pre-trial detention. Some people previously received administrative punishment - some were arrested for several days, others were fined and released,” noted He.

According to him, there were no complaints about pressure from those in custody. “The only case is with Gerey Dzhamalutdinov. He claims that he was not at the airport at all. He did not take part in the riots. He said that he was picked up on October 30 by patrol officers, taken to the police department, where he was forced to incriminate himself, promising , that he would only be given an administrative fine for “petty hooliganism.” But in the end, he also ended up in a pre-trial detention center,” Khadulaev explained.

He also noted that he is not aware of the wanted list of those involved in the criminal case. “But there are those who avoid calls to investigators in this case,” Khadulaev said.

Jamalutdinov's lawyer Armail Gasanov confirmed that his client was groundlessly charged under the article on mass riots (Part 2 of Article 212 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation provides for three to eight years in prison). “He fell under the hot hand. He has an alibi. Dzhamalutdinov simply was not at the scene of the events at the airport,” he said.

The lawyer noted that the investigation actually ignores the alibi and other defense arguments. “It’s elementary that we need to bill Jamalutdinov’s phone: where he was during the action at the airport. There are also witnesses who communicated with him live at the same time. They can be interrogated. The investigation, in turn, indicated in the indictment that a certain Aliyev points to Jamalutdinov ". The defense has sent a request for a confrontation between Jamalutdinov and this person. If the investigation does not respond to the requests, on Monday we will file a complaint with the court against the investigator in accordance with Article 125 of the Code of Criminal Procedure," Gasanov told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

Almost no investigative actions are carried out, and the courts are busy only prolonging detention, the lawyer said. “Nobody argues that everyone must answer within the framework of the law. For example, at the last court hearing on the extension of detention, five people were detained in bulk, including my client. Four of them have evidence from CCTV cameras, where they were recorded and identified. What they were doing there is another matter. But there is no such data on Dzhamalutdinov at all. Apart from unfounded allegations that a certain Aliyev points to him. The defense did not see Aliyev’s testimony itself. I think Aliyev is either a fictitious person, or one of the participants in the action, who, in exchange for the investigation’s promise to ease the punishment, testifies against those pointed out by the investigators,” said Hasanov.

Dzhamalutdinov, like most of the defendants in this case, had his preventive measure extended until the end of March 2024, the lawyer said.

At the beginning of the investigation, lawyer Abdulbari Ramazanov represented the interests of four people charged under criminal charges of mass riots, including a disabled woman of the second group, who is now also in a pre-trial detention center. But currently he has two clients left. The lawyer did not name the names of his clients without their permission.

“The plot of the accusation is like a carbon copy for everyone. Only one is accused of being in terminal B, and the other on the runway during these events. The main evidence is the testimony of CCTV cameras and video recordings of the participants in the events themselves,” Ramazanov explained.

The resolution to initiate a criminal case states that on October 29, “unidentified persons located in an unidentified place,” in order to prevent the arrival of Israeli citizens in Dagestan, through a Telegram account, posted calls to the population of the republic to go to unsanctioned protests at the Uytash airport. Subsequently, at about 20.00 on October 29, those who were at the airport, guided by the above goals, “committed mass riots, offering armed resistance to law enforcement officers, entered the protected area, where they committed pogroms in the airport premises,” the lawyer said.

Ramazanov also confirmed that no investigative actions are being carried out as such. “Only familiarization with the results of the examinations. No one has any complaints about the detention. But there are complaints that the defendants are not given visits with relatives,” he added.

Sources reported increased security measures after calls for a rally in Makhachkala

Additional police forces have been deployed to the streets of Makhachkala following calls for a rally published online, and several streets have been blocked, sources said.

As the "Caucasian Knot" wrote, on December 19, the Security Council of Dagestan threatened with criminal prosecution those who respond to calls for an unauthorized protest on Malygina Street, published on social networks. The imam of the Makhachkala mosque on Malygina Street asked Muslims not to participate in the protests.

Security measures have been strengthened in Makhachkala, police are patrolling the central streets, and travel is closed on a number of streets, the anonymous telegram channel “What’s up with the Dagestanis?” reported today.

The anonymous telegram channel "PE Caucasus" reported the same today. “There is an increase in police presence in the city of Makhachkala. At the moment, there is information on the streets of Yaragskogo, Reduktorny, the station area, Lenin, Malygina, Dakhadayev,” the message says.

The publication is illustrated with three short videos filmed from car interiors. The footage shows police cars standing with flashing lights on along roads and across the roadway, as well as police officers and soldiers in camouflage clothing standing in groups of several people.

The "Caucasian Knot" does not have information about when and where these videos were recorded, and cannot yet confirm the information of anonymous telegram channels.

Let us remember that in early November, calls also appeared on social networks to go to a protest rally in Makhachkala to demand the release of those detained after the riots at the airport. The head of Dagestan, Sergei Melikov, called on residents of the republic not to go to unauthorized rallies. At least two people received administrative penalties for publishing calls for a rally on WhatsApp*. On November 9, the administration of the head of Dagestan responded to new calls for unauthorized rallies, threatening participants in such rallies with fines and imprisonment.

On October 29, mass riots occurred at Makhachkala airport due to reports of the arrival of a plane with passengers from Israel. More than 20 people were injured in the riots, including nine police officers. By December 13, about 150 people had been arrested in connection with the criminal case of riots at the airport . What happened at the airport and how the investigation is proceeding is described in the “Caucasian Knot” report “The case of the pogrom at the Makhachkala airport.”

Record-breaking oil production from the US has left OPEC with its lowest crude market share in nearly a decade
[BusinessInsider] Responding to this from yesterday.
  • The IEA said Thursday OPEC's share of the oil market has dropped to 51%, it's lowest since 2016.

  • That's thanks to record crude output from the US, Guyana, and Brazil, sharply higher production by Iran in 2023.

  • The IEA also said global oil demand has slowed sharply amid economic turmoil.

Apparently PTI's allegations regarding level-playing field are correct: Justice Minallah
[GEO.TV] Supreme Court Justice Athar Minallah on Friday observed that Pakistain Tehrik-e-Insaf
...a political party in Pakistan. PTI was founded by former Pakistani cricket captain and philanthropist Imran Khan. The party's slogan is Justice, Humanity and Self Esteem, each of which is open to widely divergent interpretations....
's (PTI) allegations of denial of the level-playing field ahead of the upcoming general elections are "prima facie correct".

He made these observations while hearing the PTI’s petition seeking a level-playing field in the general elections.

A three-member bench comprising acting chief justice Sardar Tariq Masood, Justice Minallah and Justice Syed Mansoor Ali Shah heard the petition.

Referring to the raid at the ex-PTI leader's house, Justice Minallah said whatever happened at politician Usman Dar’s house was published in the newspapers.

The director general law of the Election Commission of Pakistain (ECP) was also present in the court.

The top court directed the ECP representative to meet the PTI counsels at 3:00pm today to address the party’s concerns regarding level-playing field.

The SC also ordered attorney general to assist the ECP in meeting with the PTI lawyers.

PTI founder Imran Khan
...aka The Great Khan, who ain't the sharpest bulb on the national tree...
’s lawyer, Shoaib Shaheen said Maintenance of Public Order (MPO) orders were still being issued against their leaders despite the issuance of the election schedule.

Neither the PTI candidates were being provided with the nomination papers, nor they were allowed to submit them, he said.

Acting Chief Justice Sardar Tariq Masood inquired why the ECP was not taking any steps to stop the issuance of the MPO orders.

Justice Masood said an order would be issued to the electoral authority to redress all the complaints after reviewing them.

SC grants bail to Imran Khan, Shah Mahmood Qureshi in cipher case
[GEO.TV] The Supreme Court on Friday approved former Pakistain Tehrik-e-Insaf
...a political party in Pakistan. PTI was founded by former Pakistani cricket captain and philanthropist Imran Khan. The party's slogan is Justice, Humanity and Self Esteem, each of which is open to widely divergent interpretations....
(PTI) chairman Imran Khan
...aka The Great Khan, who ain't the sharpest bulb on the national tree...
and party's Vice-Chairman Shah Mehmood Wormtongue Qureshi
...a Pak political shape-changer. He is undistinguished except for his habit of periodically needing to have his lips reattached...
's post-arrest bail in the cipher case against surety bonds of Rs1 million each.

A three-member bench, headed by interim Chief Justice Sardar Tariq Masood and comprising Justice Mansoor Ali Shah and Justice Athar Minallah, conducted the hearing.

On December 13, the PTI founder and vice-chairman were indicted in the cipher case again by the special court established under the Official Secrets Act 2023 after the Islamabad High Court (IHC) declared their jail trial null and void.

Both politicians have pleaded not guilty
"Wudn't me."
to their involvement in the offence related to the alleged misuse of diplomatic cable for political purposes.

During the court proceedings today, the top court also heard the petition against Khan and Qureshi's October 23 indictment.

At the outset of the hearing, Justice Masood remarked that the indictment that was challenged was already nullified by the IHC on November 21.

As a result, Khan and Qureshi’s Oct 23 indictments in the case also stood null and void, and the trial was conducted again.

Justice Masood said that the fresh indictment will not be affected by the previous proceedings that were declared invalid by the IHC.

Red Cross taps controversial former UNRWA commissioner as director-general
[IsraelTimes] The Red Thingy says it has appointed Pierre Krahenbuhl, a controversial former head of the UN agency for Paleostinian refugees, as its director-general.

The Swiss national, with more than 30 years of experience in the humanitarian sector, will take over in April, when current chief Robert Mardini completes his four-year term.

"The Assembly of the International Committee of the Red Thingy (ICRC) has appointed Pierre Krahenbuhl as the organization’s next director-general," it says in a statement.

Krahenbuhl, 57, has spent 25 years in prominent roles at the ICRC and is currently serving as secretary-general to the ICRC assembly.

In 2014, Krahenbuhl was appointed commissioner-general of the United Nations
...where theory meets practice and practice loses...
agency that supports Paleostinian refugees (UNRWA). He resigned from that position in 2019 amid an internal probe into alleged mismanagement and ethical abuses at the organization.

In the end, he was largely cleared of the allegations.

Israel accuses the agency of perpetuating the Israeli-Paleostinian conflict by extending refugee status to millions of descendants of Paleostinians who fled or were forced out of homes in today’s Israel at the time of the establishment of the Jewish state in 1948, rather than limiting refugee status only to the original refugees, as is the norm with most refugee populations worldwide.

Israel and other groups have also long argued that UNRWA school materials glorify terrorism and anti-Israel incitement.

The Foreign Ministry previously charged that under Krahenbuhl, UNWRA became more politicized.

UN Security Council passes resolution calling to boost aid for Gaza, free all hostages
[IsraelTimes] The UN Security Council passes a resolution calling for speeding up procedures to enable the influx of increased aid into the Hamas
...the braying voice of Islamic Resistance®,...
-ruled enclave, and for the immediate release of hostages kidnapped during the October 7 atrocities in southern Israel.

The full text of the resolution is here.

The vote was 13 in favor and zero against. Both the United States and Russia abstained.

Before the vote, the US blocked a Russian amendment demanding "an urgent and sustainable cessation of hostilities." This went further than the resolution itself, which "calls for urgent steps to immediately allow safe, unhindered and expanded humanitarian access and to create the conditions for a sustainable cessation of hostilities."

This is the first time since the war that the council has passed a resolution including language regarding a "cessation of hostilities," but it still stops short of demanding an immediate and permanent ceasefire, which both the US and Israel oppose.

Earlier texts of the resolution, which was negotiated throughout the week, had demanded an immediate ceasefire and proposed a new UN mechanism for aid entering Gazoo

without Israeli inspection.

The exclusion of these demands from the final text was among the factors that led the US not to utilize its veto.

UN warns war is pushing Gaza to famine
Had Hamas not invaded in October 7th, supported by Gaza civilians, there would be no war and no famine. Had Egypt allowed the civilian Gazans temporary refuge during the war, there would be no famine. Had the UN staff done their job as fast as the IDF inspectors did theirs, there would be no famine, Had Hamas bullies not helped themselves first to everything brought in, hunger would certainly be less. And had Hamas at any point said to Israel, “That’s it, we surrender,” the war would be over and there would be no famine.

The World Food Program chief economist warned that if the Israel-Hamas

war continued at the same levels and food deliveries were not restored, the population of the Paleostinian territory could face famine within the next six months, accompanied by widespread outbreaks of disease.

The report found that Gaza's entire population of 2.2 million were in a food crisis or worse: 478,-thousand were at crisis levels, 1.17 million at emergency levels and 577-thousand at catastrophic levels, meaning starvation levels.

Food deliveries are grossly insufficient to Gaza, where two thirds of the population was reliant on humanitarian aid before Israel launched its military campaign against Hamas holy warriors.

Before the interagency report, WFP food security experts had warned that people in Gaza had used up all of their resources, that bakeries had been destroyed and shops were empty, leaving people with no where to find food.

The Lebs maintain a precarious sectarian balance among Shiites, Sunnis, and about a dozen flavors of Christians, plus Armenians, Georgians, and who knows what else? UN Security Council Resolution 1701, which ended a 2006 war between Israel and Hezbollah, called for the removal of armed personnel south of Lebanon’s Litani River, except for UN peacekeepers and the Lebanese army and state security forces.

The solution to the current cross-border hostilities "is the implementation of international resolutions," including Resolution 1701, Prime Minister Najib Mikati says in a statement.

"We are totally ready to commit to their implementation, on condition the Israeli side does the same, and withdraws — according to the international laws and resolutions — from occupied territory," he adds, which his office says refers to Mount Dov — also known as Shebaa Farms — the Kfar Chouba hills and the Lebanese side of the village of Ghajar.
