Sudan: Army chief gives rare public speech in Port Sudan
[AFRICANEWS] The head of Sudan's army announced Monday that he fled the capital during a large military operation as the bloody conflict in the Northeast African country enters its fifth month.

General al-Burhan confirmed that no agreement had been reached with rival Daglo to facilitate his departure from the capital.

"I confirm that my exit from the General Command took place without any help, and I did not leave with a deal or by arranging any agreement. This was a military action carried out by the armed forces, and anyone who says that there is an agreement or that there is a party that helped or that there is a deal is delusional. We do not agree with the traitors or those outside the Sudanese people (traitors referring to Rapid Support Forces and those outside Sudan meaning Americans)," declared General Abdel Fattah al-Burhane.

During this rare public speech in the coastal city of Port Sudan, Burhane said the military operation which enabled him to flee Khartoum's army headquarters included naval and air forces.

The military command has been one of the epicentres of the conflict.

The operation led to armed festivities in which two people were killed, according to the Sudanese army general.

"We are proud that our brothers in the Navy were part of this operation (his exit from Khartoum) and there are two deaders in the operation of the general's commander (referring to himself) exit from the General Command, and the Air Force, the Land Forces and the Navy participated in this operation, and it was an operation in which there was fighting, and we offered deaders in it," Added the army chief.

#1  When you need a combined military operation to get you out of Khartoum, something is wrong. Port Sudan is indeed far from the action, but it is just a few hour trip by ferry to Saudi Arabia where Burhan hopes to find his savior. However, Saudi Arabia's feckless operation in Yemen ought to prove to him that the Saudi military is a paper tiger.

ECOWAS countries offer Niger rebels to meet at neutral location
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited.

Niamey , August 27, 2023, 22:53 - IA Regnum. Countries that are members of the Economic Community of West African Countries (ECOWAS) suggested that the National Council for the Salvation of the Motherland, led by the commander of the Niger Guards, Abdurahman Tchiani, meet in a neutral place. This was announced on August 27 by ECOWAS Commissioner for Politics, Peace and Security Abdel Fatau Musah on the air of Al Jazeera TV channel.

“We invited the leaders of the military council in Niger to meet with us in a neutral place,” said Abdel Fatau Musah.

In addition, the Commissioner noted that ECOWAS asked the military seized power in Niger, as a goodwill gesture, to release the deposed and captured by the rebels, President Mohamed Bazum.

At the same time, the ECOWAS representative explained that the organization was in no hurry to choose a military path to resolve the crisis in Niger, but was interested in resolving the situation as soon as possible.

“We have not seen any concrete steps from the military and will not wait forever,” Abdel Fatau Musah warned.

Previous talks between ECOWAS representatives and the Niger rebels have not been successful. During the meeting, the delegation demanded the immediate return of power to President Mohamed Bazum, who was ousted by the rebels. Members of the military council of Niger rejected this demand.

Earlier, IA Regnum reported that Nigerian President Bola Tinubu , who chairs ECOWAS, said that the organization seeks to resolve the situation in Niger, where the rebels seized power, peacefully, relying on diplomacy. However, the politician indicated that ECOWAS representatives are ready for any possible scenario.

In turn, the Niger Armed Forces switched to maximum readiness mode. Such an order was given to the country's army by the head of the defense headquarters Moussa Salau Barmu . He explained that the decision was made to adequately respond to possible aggression against Niger.

Yemen affirms it will stand by Niger against any form of aggression
[HODHODYEMENNEWS.NET] The front man for the National Salvation Government, Minister of Information Dhaifallah al-Shami, affirmed Yemen
...an area of the Arabian Peninsula sometimes mistaken for a country. It is populated by more antagonistic tribes and factions than you can keep track of...
’s solidarity and support for the popular uprising in Niger against the puppet regime of global arrogance, led by La Belle France and the US and their colonial ambitions.

The front man Dhaifallah al-Shami pointed to the importance of standing by the Nigerian people to achieve their aspirations for liberation from the tutelage of external powers.

He called on Western countries not to interfere in Niger’s internal affairs and to respect the will of the Nigerian people to determine their own destiny away from dictates and external pressures, and their right to preserve their national wealth.

Al-Shami also called on Islamic governments and peoples to support the popular steps in Niger and to take supportive positions in this regard. He stressed the importance of a unified stance from the Islamic world in the face of Western threats towards this Moslem country, and not to let it down.

Fifth Column
Hollywood stars bankroll anti-capitalist eco-warriors who blockaded Burning Man
[NY Post] Follow up to yesterday's Cluster
These aren’t your ordinary anti-capitalist climate crusaders.

Extinction Rebellion, the radical environmentalists who tried to blockade traffic to counterculture festival Burning Man on Sunday — only to be rammed aside by tribal police — are funded by some of the biggest names in Hollywood, along with an heir to the Getty fortune and outdoor retailer Patagonia.

The group calls itself part of a "decentralized, international and politically non-partisan movement" demanding climate action — and until now has largely stuck to causing disruption in Europe.

Under its banner, protesters have superglued themselves to the Speaker’s chair in the British parliament, blockaded busy roads — often by affixing to each other and the asphalt — and even attached themselves to the top of a plane. Allied groups in Europe have vandalized a Walmart heir’s superyacht.

On Sunday the eco-warriors from Extinction Rebellion, known as XR, were one of a group of activists called Seven Circles who went after Burning Man festival-goers, setting up a blockade of a road into Black Rock City, Nev., to protest against capitalism.

They wanted Burning Man leadership want a ban on private jets, as well as single-use plastics and "unnecessary propane burning," according to a statement released Sunday by Seven Circles. The festival ends by literally burning a tower.

"The time has come," said XR organizer Mun Chong. "Burning Man should aim to have the same type of political impact that Woodstock had on counterculture. If we are honest about system change, it needs to start at ’home’.

"Ban the lowest hanging fruit immediately: private jets. No single individual should have the luxury of emitting 10 to 20 times more carbon pollution than a commercial airline passenger. Burners, rebel with us."

The protest, however, ended when Rangers from the Pyramid Lake Paiute Tribal Police Department smashed through the barriers before detaining demonstrators at gunpoint, which XR called "horrifying."

XR, which was first founded in the UK, receives most of its funding from individual donations.

#1  Well... they're right. The kind of people who go to Burning Man are exactly the kind of people who need to be harassed by protestors. Not London commuters just trying to get to work.

FBI scrambling to track migrants who entered US with help of ISIS-linked smuggler: report
[NY Post] Too busy going after Trump, Parents who protest school boards, and radical traditional Catholics...
The FBI is reportedly scrambling to find more than a dozen Uzbek nationals who sought asylum in the US earlier this year after intelligence officers discovered they traveled to the southern border with the help of a smuggler who has ties to ISIS.

Officials are working to "identify and assess" all of the individuals who gained entry into the country, National Security Council spokesman Adrienne Watson told CNN.

They are also scrutinizing a number of migrants as possible criminal threats, two unnamed federal officials told the news network. But authorities say no specific ISIS plot has been identified.

"There was no indication — and remains no indication — that any of the individuals facilitated by this network have a connection to a foreign terrorist organization, or are engaged in plotting a terrorist attack in the United States," Watson stressed.

a federal agent

Nothing in any of the intelligence community’s databases raised any red flags, CNN reported, and they were all released into the US pending a court appearance.

It was only later that the FBI learned of a smuggling network helping Uzbeks into the US — which involved at least one individual with ties to ISIS.

Migrants turn themselves in for processing after crossing the U.S.-Mexico Border at the Rio Grande River on Tuesday, May 9, 2023 in El Paso, Texas. Officials are also scrutinizing a number of migrants as possible criminal threats, according to two unnamed federal officials. New York Post

The bureau began a nationwide search for the migrants, and also worked with Turkish authorities, who apprehended the smuggler and other members of the network, the report said.

It has since received more information from that unnamed smuggler to aid in the bureau’s investigation, officials said.

Ever since, Homeland Security has been detaining, vetting, and ultimately expediting the deportation of migrants who "fit the profile associated with individuals who were facilitated by this network," Watson said.

Polio outbreak: International committee warns Pakistan of gaps in efforts
[GEO.TV] The International Health Regulations' (2005) Emergency Committee, responsible for assessing global polio
...Poliomyelitis is a disease caused by infection with the poliovirus. Between 1840 and the 1950s, polio was a worldwide epidemic. Since the development of polio vaccines the disease has been largely wiped out in the civilized world. However, since the vaccine is known to make Moslem pee-pees shrink and renders females sterile, bookish, and unsubmissive it is not widely used by the turban and automatic weapons set. Currently the disease is only found in Pakistain and Afghanistain...
virus spread, has expressed concerns over Pakistain's efforts to reach a large number of children through its polio eradication campaign.

In a session convened by the World Health Organisation
...Kind of like the Center for Disease Control only run by the UN, with about the results you'd expectt...
(WHO) director general on August 16, 2023, the committee highlighted the gaps in Pakistain and Afghanistan's efforts to eliminate polio.

It emphasised that recent favorable environmental samples from Beautiful Downtown Peshawar
...capital of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, administrative and economic hub for the Federally Administered Tribal Areas of Pakistan. Peshawar is situated near the eastern end of the Khyber Pass, convenient to the Pak-Afghan border. Peshawar has evolved into one of Pakistain's most ethnically and linguistically diverse cities, which means lots of gunfire...
and Bloody Karachi
...formerly the capital of Pakistain, now merely its most important port and financial center. It is among the largest cities in the world, with a population of 18 million, most of whom hate each other and many of whom are armed and dangerous...
underscore the persistent risk of a polio outbreak in Pakistain.

The committee highlighted that a new case of WPV1 emerged in Pakistain since the last meeting, bringing the 2023 total to two cases. Both instances occurred in the Bannu district of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (KP) province. Throughout the year, at least 15 environmental surveillance-positive samples were identified.

"Although the action plan in southern KP has resulted in 160,000 more children being vaccinated, the context remains challenging — including political instability, insecurity in some areas with front-line workers requiring police patrols to accompany them and vaccination boycotts, where communities make demands for other services in exchange for allowing polio vaccination," the committee further said.

#1  Yesterday Rantburg carried story about a Pakistani Doctor Came to Work at Mayo Clinic, Two Years Later He Joined ISIS. Now we read that doctors in Pakistan are unable to eradicate polio in their countries like we did in this country sixty some years ago. So we risk spreading polio and terrorism when we let Pakistanis into our country.

Why?

Imaan Mazari rearrested shortly after release from Adiala jail
[GEO.TV] Human rights lawyer Imaan Zainab Mazari-Hazir, who was granted bail in a sedition case earlier today, was rearrested on Monday shortly after she was released from Adiala jail in Rawalpindi.

Islamabad police took the human rights
...which are often intentionally defined so widely as to be meaningless...
activist into custody.

She was arrested in a case registered in Barakahu cop shoppe in the federal capital. She has been taken into custody for a case registered against her under the Anti-Terrorism Act.

The Mazari’s counsel in a statement said the police did not inform them about the case in which Mazari had been arrested.

The development comes after an Islamabad anti-terrorism court (ATC) on Monday granted bail to Mazari and Pashtun Tahafuz Movement (PTM) leader Ali Wazir in a sedition case related to the controversial speech against the state institutions.

ATC Judge Abual Hasnat Zulqarnain heard the plea and approved post-arrest bail of Imaan and Wazir against surety bonds of Rs30,000 each.

The two were arrested on August 20 and sent on physical remand after they were accused of delivering a controversial speech at the PTM's public rally.

On August 19, two first information reports (FIR) were registered against Imaan and Wazir at the Tarnol cop shoppe and Counter-Terrorism Department cop shoppe, following a rally of the PTM in the federal capital.

Israel to have partial laser defenses by next year - Rafael chair
Israel will have partial laser defenses by this time next year, Rafael Advanced Defense Systems chairman Yuval Steinitz told Army Radio on Sunday.

"One year from now — Israel will be the first country to have partial laser protection. In two years there may be complete protection — against missiles, shells, rockets, or anything else. This will protect us both in the South and in the North," said Steinitz.
