Islamist antisemitism in the US masked by alliance with far left – study
[IsraelTimes] INSS report argues that rebranding of bully boy groups as human rights
...not to be confused with individual rights, mind you...
organizations threatens to bring fringe ideas into the mainstream

As antisemitic attacks continue to rise in the United States, a growing alliance with far-left organizations has shielded US Islamist groups from scrutiny of their antisemitic statements and ideas, a study by an Israeli think tank warned.

"US Islamist groups and leaders have increasingly sought common cause with progressive left-wing groups that promote minority rights and intersectionality among racial, ethnic, and religious minorities in their efforts to build coalitions around common interests," charged Yehudit Barsky and Ehud Rosen, authors of the Institute for National Security Studies report "Islamist Antisemitism in the United States," set to be published Tuesday.

The "red-green" coalition is based on a narrative that portrays the Israeli-Paleostinian conflict as an anticolonial struggle, and US Moslems as victims of racism on par with other marginalized minorities in the US, said the INSS study.

The alliance also seeks to delegitimize Jewish communal organizations, according to Barsky and Rosen, by portraying them as part of a white power structure in the US that is ineligible for inclusion in progressive coalitions.

"Within these coalitions," charged the study, "US Islamists have sought to boycott and delegitimize progressive Zionists and supporters of Israel, deeming them as oppressors and illegitimate participants."

Barsky is a research fellow at the Institute for the Study of Global Antisemitism and Policy, and Rosen is a team member of the INSS’s project on Contemporary Antisemitism in the United States.

The study is the latest installment in an ongoing INSS series on antisemitism in the US.

Leading Islamist organizations like American Moslems for Paleostine and the Council on American Islamic Relations, the authors argued, seek to challenge the right of mainstream Jewish and pro-Israel organizations to define antisemitism and to call themselves civil rights organizations. A campaign against the Anti-Defamation League, the leading antisemitism watchdog, called it a "silencer of free speech" and promoter of Islamophobia
...the irrational fear that Moslems will act the way they usually do...
, and pushed for other civil rights organizations to boycott it.

The authors warned that over time, fringe antisemitic beliefs could become increasingly mainstreamed if these organizations are not challenged.

A 75 percent spike in antisemitic attacks in the US during and after the 2021 conflict in Gazoo
...Hellhole adjunct to Israel and Egypt's Sinai Peninsula, inhabited by Gazooks. The place was acquired in the wake of the 1967 War and then presented to Paleostinian control in 2006 by Ariel Sharon, who had entered his dotage. It is currently ruled with an iron fist by Hamaswith about the living conditions you'd expect. It periodically attacks the Hated Zionist Entity whenever Iran needs a ruckus created or the hard boyz get bored, getting thumped by the IDF in return. The ruling turbans then wave the bloody shirt and holler loudly about oppression and disproportionate response...
is evidence of the need to address Islamist antisemitism, and not only Jew-hatred on the far-right, said Barsky and Rosen. While that discourse exists in Europe, the successful rebranding of Islamist groups from forces of Evil to champions of human rights has stymied debate over their activities against Jewish and pro-Israel organizations in the US.

The alarming trend of antisemitic attacks continued into 2022, according to the ADL, rising another 36% over the previous year.

Several major incidents were perpetrated by Islamists last year. In January 2022, British Islamist Malik Faisal Akram took the rabbi and three worshipers hostage at Congregation Beth Israel in Colleyville, Texas, and demanded that an imprisoned al-Qaeda member be freed.

In November, the FBI issued a security alert to synagogues across New Jersey. The next week, a young Moslem man was arrested in New Jersey for distributing a manifesto online with threats to attack synagogues.

"The process of choosing allies from the Moslem community should be made much more carefully, and proper due diligence is required," argued the report, which also noted that there is no evidence that Islamist groups represent the beliefs of most American Moslems.

"These developments call for increased vigilance and a robust response by the American Jewish community and its allies," urged the authors.

Can Somalia block Al-Shabaab's revenue sources?
[Garowe] For over 16 years, the al-Qaeda-linked group; al-Shabaab
...... the personification of Somali state failure...
, has managed to run its operations smoothly due to sophisticated ways of collecting revenue which helps in purchasing weapons and payment of fighters, making it extremely difficult to contain the rowdy bully boys.

Recently, President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud warned business owners against remitting taxes to al-Shabaab, noting that those found culpable will have their licenses canceled. The president also closed down over 70 mobile money transfer firms and 250 bank accounts linked to al-Shabaab.

A report by the United Nations
...a formerly good idea gone bad...
revealed that al-Shabaab can collect up to $120 million annually up from $100 million even with the Somali government insisting that the revenue has been reduced. Of this amount, $24 million is used in purchasing weapons which the group uses to create mayhem in the country.

Abdirahman Yusuf al-adala, Somalia's Deputy Information Minister recently said the country has made tremendous progress in curbing al-Shabaab activities, including their sources of revenue. The country had recently completed the first phase of an operation against the group, killing over 3000 bully boys.

"The extortion that al-Shabaab used to collect from Somali citizens from the ports and airports has been terminated," he said at a news conference in the capital, Mogadishu, on March 30." "Fifteen vehicles used by al-Shabaab to collect funds were seized, and 20 leaders who were in charge of collecting funds were killed."

Aweis Ahmed, a lecturer of Politics and Foreign Policy at Mogadishu University, believes that the government will struggle to eliminate the bully boys, citing their deep networks across the central and southern regions where the government has been tackling them in the last seven months.

"The capability of the [government] to curb al-Shabaab funds is limited," he told The Africa Report magazine.

Most of the money is obtained through extortion, including taxing local businesses and individuals, facilitating illicit trade, and collecting fees on goods at checkpoints and ports. Recently, the group claimed that it sponsors other terror groups across the country.

A 2022 report from the Hiraal Institute, a Mogadishu-based think tank, estimated that al-Shabaab collects $15 million a month — as much revenue as the Somali government accrues. The intelligence arm of al-Shabaab; the Amniyat, collects revenue on behalf of the group through remittances in form of Zakat.

Matt Bryden, a security expert and strategic advisor at the Kenya-based Sahan Foundation think tank, said the Somali government must shore up financial regulations that al-Shabaab exploits through banks and money transfers known as "hawalas."

"A government crackdown on the financial sector and tightening up the loopholes is also going to be key to combating al-Shabaab and drying up its resource base."

Hamza Abdi Barre, the Prime Minister of Somalia, expressed confidence that the government will eventually eliminate the group, citing the closure of the 70 mobile money transfer firms and 250 bank accounts as a major milestone towards completely locking the group out of finances.

"This was a major victory and was only possible because of the tips of the Somali citizens," he said during a January 11 gathering of Somali diaspora members in Cairo, Egypt. "We are in the process of investigating the amount of the frozen money in the closed accounts. We can’t sit back and allow them [al-Shabaab] to wreck our future for selfish gains."

Most al-Shabaab transactions are made with cash and mobile money transfers. Every month, Somalis make an estimated 155 million mobile money transactions worth about $2.7 billion, ACSS researcher Wendy Williams wrote in a March 27 article.

Abdullahi Godah Barre, the former Minister for Planning and International Cooperation called for Somalia to invest in its investigating agencies to improve capabilities and capacity. He also recommends the prosecution of rogue bankers allowing the group to channel money through them.

"The employees of the banks must be held accountable," he told Voice of America. "Those who are proxies, whose names are used to open accounts, should be prosecuted and face justice.

The US Africa Command estimates that there are close to 8,000 active al-Shabaab fighters but the number may have reduced significantly due to a recent crackdown which left thousands of them dead.

Sudanese army accuses two neighbours of supporting RSF
[SUDANTRIBUNE] On Tuesday, Shams al-Din Kabbashi, a member of the Transitional Sovereign Council in Sudan, accused two neighbouring countries of providing military support to the Rapid Support Forces (SRF).

International and regional organizations have called for an immediate end of the fighting in the capital Khartoum between the Sudanese army and the paramilitary forces. They also called for non-external intervention that may prolong the suffering of civilians.

In a telephone interview with al-Hadath and al-Arabiya TV channels on Tuesday, Kabbashi said that the RSF received supplies and weapons from one and the other sought to support them unsuccessfully.

"We have confirmed information that two neighbouring countries are providing support to the Rapid Support Forces, one of which is located in the west".

Two planes delivered ammunition and supplies that were transported to another area. In addition, there was another attempt to land a third plane at Merowe airport, according to Kabbashi.

Without naming the countries involved in the ongoing war in Sudan, he hinted that the support came also from non-state armed actors who have sufficient autonomy and power.

"We regret that some countries carry out these actions, even if they are carried out by groups not under the control of those countries. The state is responsible in one way or another for the actions of its citizens, even if they are rebellious".

He further disclosed that the two planes of western Sudan, in fact, "landed in a border area outside of Sudan and transported goods and supplies to a location within Sudanese territory."

Chad and the Central African Republic are two countries that border Sudan in the west and southwest.

Experts and observers have warned against regional destabilisation as there are already armed conflicts in Libya and the Central African Republic and a fragile government in Chad between them.

Government Corruption
AFG IG Sez He's Stonewalled and Doesn't Know Where any Money Went Shows We ‘Probably' Are Funding the Taliban
[Breitbart] On Wednesday’s broadcast of the Fox Business Network’s "The Bottom Line," House Oversight Committee Chairman Rep. James Comer (R-KY) reacted to testimony from Special Inspector General for Afghan Reconstruction John Sopko that he can’t ensure American tax dollars are funding the Taliban and that the Biden administration has stonewalled him by stating that these facts indicate that tax dollars are probably going to the Taliban.

Comer said, "We’re trying to make it known to the American people that this is the least transparent administration in the history of our country. This administration continues to waste taxpayer dollars to the [tune] of hundreds of billions of dollars. I don’t think very many Americans realize we’ve spent $8 billion in Afghanistan this year. And what we learned from the hearing today is the Special Inspector General for Afghan Reconstruction, he cannot guarantee that 100% of that did not go to the Taliban. He doesn’t know where a penny of that went. ... And the fact that this administration — whether it be the Department of Defense, the Department of State, or the White House — continues to block the inspector generals from having access to where the taxpayer dollars are being spent says a lot. It says [it] probably is going to the Taliban."

Torch-carrying marchers indicted over 2017 Charlottesville rally
Rantburg’s archives contain a much more truthful description of the events of that day here.
[IsraelTimes] Parade through campus by white nationalists, some of whom chanted ’Jews will not replace us,’ came a day before deadly Unite the Right protest

Nearly six years after a large gathering of “white nationalists”
...scare quotes mine — some of those so-called “white nationalists” were Black, many were there to protest Antifa acting on the Progressive project to erase American history, protected by Progressive multibillionaire-funded Democratic Party politicians and district attorneys...
in Charlottesville erupted in violent mostly peaceful festivities with counterprotesters, a grand jury in Virginia has indicted multiple people on felony charges for carrying flaming torches with the intent to intimidate.

The Albemarle County Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office said in a news release that the indictments relate to an event on August 11, 2017. That’s when a group of white nationalists carrying torches marched through the campus of the University of Virginia, some chanting, "Jews will not replace us."
“You will not replace us,” actually, aimed at the Antifa Black Bloc cadres, but that doesn’t sound nearly as scary.
Commonwealth’s Attorney James Hingeley
...another of the Soros stable of Progressive city/county/state prosecutors protecting criminals and vicious far left “activists” from prosecution by the legal system...
did not say in the release how many people have been indicted and did not immediately return a call and email seeking comment on Tuesday. According to electronic court records, the indictments against three people have been unsealed, including William Zachary Smith, of Nacona, Texas; Tyler Bradley Dykes, of Bluffton, South Carolina; and Dallas Medina, of Ravenna, Ohio.

Each is charged with a single count of burning an object with the intent of intimidating a person or group of people. The charge carries a maximum penalty of up to five years in prison.

Smith’s attorney, Cody Villalon, declined to comment when reached by phone Tuesday. Dykes and Medina do not have the name of any attorneys listed in electronic court records.

The indictments, which were issued in February but only recently unsealed, come almost six years after violence broke out during two days of demonstrations by the largest gathering of white nationalists in a decade.

Clashes began on the night of August 11, 2017, during the torch march, and continued the following day, when a "Unite the Right" rally was planned. James Alex Fields Jr., a white supremacist from Maumee, Ohio, rammed his car into a crowd of counterprotesters, killing one woman and injuring dozens. Fields is serving a life sentence for murder and hate crimes.

Prosecutors said the indictments were issued "as part of a criminal investigation that is active and ongoing," adding they work with law enforcement to investigate, analyze applicable laws, and bring charges "when appropriate."

"This is our process regardless of how much time has passed or where the alleged offenders may be found," they said.

Former US president Donald Trump
...His ancestors didn't own any slaves...
set off a firestorm of criticism when he said there were "very fine people on both sides" of the festivities between white nationalists and anti-racist demonstrators in Charlottesville.
He also bluntly repudiated neo-Nazis and white supremacists, but the Ay Pee journalist conveniently forgets that little fact.

(ISIS), for lack of adequate notice, calling on Baghdad to ensure the safety of the families.

The Iraqi government on Tuesday shut down al-Jada 5 camp in Nineveh province where hundreds of families with alleged ISIS ties lived, giving them a 48-hour notice. This angered many residents, and aid workers told the News Agency that Dare Not be Named that they were locked out of the camp by the security forces.

"The Office of the Humanitarian Coordinator for Iraq calls on the Government of Iraq to ensure the safety and well-being of the 342 families who had to depart from the Jeddah 5 IDP camp in Ninewa Governorate following its closure," said the UN in a statement.

"The humanitarian community is concerned by the impact of the closure of the camp on 18 April by the Government of Iraq, without adequate notification and preparation for the IDPs and the receiving communities," it added.

The camp housed 342 families of 1,566 people "with almost two third are children," according to the UN.

Late last month, the government said in a letter to the UN that they would close the camp after two months.

As of Tuesday afternoon most of the families had left the camp, according to AP.

Al-Jada was one of just two camps still open in areas under federal Iraqi control. Refugee and IDP camps based in the Kurdistan Region remain open.

Many of the residents of al-Jada camp were repatriated from northeast Syria (Rojava).

IDF to impose closure of West Bank for Palestinians on Memorial, Independence Day
[IsraelTomes] The Israel Defense Forces on Wednesday announced it was imposing a closure on the West Bank, with crossing points closed to Paleostinians during the upcoming Memorial Day and Independence Day. Border crossings with the Gazoo

Strip will also close.

The closure is set to begin on Monday, April 24, at 5 p.m. and last until Wednesday, April 26, at 11:59 p.m.

The IDF said border crossings for Paleostinians would reopen "subject to a situational assessment."

Exceptions to the closures will be made for humanitarian and other outstanding cases, but will require the approval of the Defense Ministry’s liaison to the Paleostinians, known as the Coordinator of Government Activities in the Territories (COGAT).

Such closures are standard practice during festivals and holidays. The military says they are a preventative measure against attacks in periods of increased tension.

Resistance to 'Israel': We Don't Fear an All-Out Confrontation
[ENGLISH.ALMANAR.LB] Paleostinian resistance did not allow the Israeli brutal raid on al-Aqsa to go unanswered, al-Akhbar Lebanese daily reported on Thursday, citing the rockets which were launched from Gazoo
...Hellhole adjunct to Israel and Egypt's Sinai Peninsula, inhabited by Gazooks. The ruling turbans then wave the bloody shirt and holler loudly about oppression and disproportionate response...
on Wednesday.

The daily said that contacts intensified between the resistance and the mediators who were exerting efforts to prevent any potential escalation that could reach an all-out confrontation.

"Al-Akhbar knew that the command of the Egyptian intelligence contacted Paleostinian factions at dawn on Wednesday in a bid to contain the situation and prevent an expanded retaliation by the Paleostinian resistance."

The daily quoted Paleostinian sources as saying that Hamas, a regional Iranian catspaw, and Islamic Jihad
...created after many members of the Egyptian Moslem Brotherhood decided the organization was becoming too moderate. Operations were conducted out of Egypt until 1981 when the group was exiled after the assassination of President Anwar Sadat. They worked out of Gaza until they were exiled to Lebanon in 1987, where they clove tightly to Hezbollah. In 1989 they moved to Damascus, where they remain a subsidiary of Hezbollah...
told the Egyptian mediators that the resistance groups were closely monitoring the developments in occupied al-Quds.

"The resistance won’t allow the repetition of brutal attacks on worshipers and the Israeli plan to divide the holy site (between Moslems and Jews)," the sources said as cited by al-Akhbar.

On the other hand, the mediators called on the Paleostinian resistance to carry out a retaliation that would be limited to rocket attacks on Gaza border settlements, in a bid to prevent a confrontation like "Seif al-Quds" (Al-Quds’ Sword) in May 2021.

The resistance response to the mediators was clear: "We don’t fear confrontation and ready to teach the occupation a harsh lesson," the sources added.

In the same context, the Islamic Jihad stressed it was fully ready to retaliate for the Israeli aggression, noting that the rockets which were fired from Gaza were "initial warning message" to the Israeli occupation.

Israel launches investigation into drone crash in Syria
[NPASYRIA] On Wednesday, the Israeli military announced launching an investigation into the incident of a drone crash in Syrian territory.

An IDF drone aircraft crashed in southern Syria, while operating in Syrian airspace overnight.

An Israel army spokesperson said, "During a routine operation, an unmanned aircraft...fell in Syrian territory following a technical malfunction."

"No sensitive information was revealed" as a result of the crash, the spokesperson added.

He stressed, "The incident is under investigation."

Israeli forces targeted on Tuesday a military post of the Syrian government forces in the southern countryside of Quneitra, southern Syria.

A local source told North Press that "Israeli forces targeted with several rockets the post of the Seventh Corps of the government forces."

Syria Kurds seek talks with Damascus amid regional detente
[AlAhram] Syria's semi-autonomous Kurdish administration said it was ready for talks with Damascus, as the government's ties with Arab states thaw more than a decade after the country's war broke out.

The government of Hereditary President-for-Life Bashir Pencilneck al-Assad
The Scourge of Hama...
rejects the Kurdish administration in north and northeast Syria and accuses it of "separatism".

Several rounds of talks since 2018 between Damascus and the Kurds -- who control most of the country's major oil and gas fields -- have failed to achieve any results.

"We affirm our readiness to meet and talk with the Syrian government and with all Syrian parties to hold discussions and present initiatives for a solution," the Kurdish authorities said.

The statement denied any separatist ambitions, "affirming Syria's territorial integrity" and calling for Syria's resources to be shared "fairly".

Until the accession of King Salman the place was under the thumb of Wahhabi holy men and was the driving force behind Salafist terrorism world-wide. patched up ties, shifting regional relations.

On Tuesday, Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan met with Assad in Damascus, in the first visit by a Saudi official since the conflict began.

The pair discussed steps to achieve a political settlement for Syria's return to the Arab fold, according to the Saudi foreign ministry.

Last week, diplomats from nine Arab countries met in Saudi Arabia to discuss ending Syria's long spell in the diplomatic wilderness, and Syria's foreign minister visited Saudi Arabia for the first time in over a decade.

The Kurds in the statement urged "Arab countries, the United Nations
...aka the Oyster Bay Chowder and Marching Society...
and international forces... to play an active and positive role in searching for a common solution".

They said they were ready to share resources including oil and gas "through an agreement with the Syrian government" following "dialogue and negotiation".

Turkey has also made overtures towards Damascus in recent months, stoking further fears among Syria's Kurds.

Ankara considers the People's Protection Units (YPG) -- which dominate the SDF -- as an offshoot of the banned Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK), designated as a terrorist group by Turkey and its Western allies.

"Any party or individual working for a foreign power is simply a traitor and a collaborator," Assad told broadcaster Russia Today in an interview last month, when asked about the YPG.
